00:08take up residencies as stallions across Europe. The latest horse to join that list is the 2024
00:14winner Osterius and he is joining the roster at Bearstone Stud who are known for standing
00:20commercial stallions. Mark Pennell of the Stud spoke to TDN about their latest recruit.
00:25He was a great two-year-old, he was in training with Archie Watson who fought an awful lot of him, owned by Woffman Racing and they did a great job with him.
00:39We were at the sales and Richard Brown approached us and asked him if we'd be interested. So we went over to see him immediately and as soon as we saw him we knew he was the right article, a very classy looking horse, great walker and looked as if he got potential to be a great first season young
00:55sire. He went to the Breeze Up sales and he topped the sale that year at 380,000 which was a good price so he obviously proved that he breezed well and had potential and he proved that once he hit the track.
01:09So he won the Flying Childers. It's a very speedy race and produced some very good stallions over the years. Our dad, A. Ali, the likes of those horses, very speedy, turned out to be decent sires. So it is a good route to go up if you've got a horse that's won the Flying Childers and there's a good chance they're going to put that speed into the stock.
01:28He won his group three in France so he's a very precocious three-year-old and proved his worth. Very muscular, great walker and he's got a real good back end on him. Temperament is unbelievable. I mean we feel that he's very good value for money. He's by the sire of the moment. Obviously Memas, he's done amazing. He produced some real top class horses and obviously Asterius is one of his exciting produce.
01:54So it's nice to have some of that blood in England and we have a competitive price with him for the commercial breeders. So I'm hoping the first season sire at that price will be sort of taken in by the breeders.
02:07He'll be having some of our top class speed mares and we'll be sort of promoting him and hopefully get him off on a good start.
02:16All our stallions have all been sort of speed horses. It's what we sort of base our results on. Every year we have around 60 winners off the stud each year, which proves that we're breeding good two-year-olds and fast two-year-olds. So hopefully he will do the same for us.
