00:00Seven crocs in seven days. Northern Territory rangers ringing in the new year on a roll.
00:09This 4.9 metre monster croc pulled out of a creek at popular swimming spot Wonguy Falls.
00:15It's one of the larger ones caught in Litchfield for some time.
00:18It's certainly the largest one for the year.
00:21We've averaged one crocodile a day since the start of the year.
00:24The seventh one's in the boat behind us.
00:262025 saw a huge wet season, pushed to the brink by tropical cyclone Fina, increasing crocodile movement across waterways.
00:35It's so important that we do monitor the parks and waterways that we have, which are popular swimming spots such as Wonguy Falls.
00:43And that's why we have to close some of those areas during these heavy rainfall periods.
00:49Looking back at the year that was, croc capture numbers continued to slow.
00:54Since the spike in captures in 2021, when 322 crocs were captured, annual crocodile counts have dwindled over the last four years.
01:05241 crocs were captured by Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife last year, 30 lower than 2024.
01:13199 crocodiles were captured in the harbour, ranging in size from under a metre to over four metres in length.
01:21With 2025's Year of Crocs wrapped, NT Parks and Wildlife are continuing to remind residents and tourists to stay safe around Territory waterways.
01:31Hoping a croc-a-day keeps the swimmers away.
