Nick Reiner's Attorney Withdraws from Case Moments Ahead of Scheduled Arraignment

Nick Reiner will be represented by a public defender after his attorney withdrew from the case as he was set to be arraigned on murder charges connected to the stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Nick will no longer be represented by Alan Jackson, who appeared at Reiner's initial court appearance following his arrest, PEOPLE confirms. He will now be represented by a public defender named Kimberly Greene. Nick was present in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday, Jan. 7, with his head shaved and wearing a tan jumpsuit, when Jackson went into the judge's chambers. He did not enter a plea.

00:00Good morning. As you know, my name is Alan Jackson. This morning, I had to withdraw as Nick Reiner's counsel.

00:12Circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick's control, have dictated that sadly, it's made it impossible for us to continue our representation of Nick.

00:24We expect the public defender to step in. They've already been appointed and very capably protect Nick Reiner's interests as he moves forward through the system.

00:36But be clear, be very, very clear about this. My team and I remain deeply, deeply committed to Nick Reiner and to his best interests.

00:48What we've learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that pursuant to the laws of this state, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.
