00:00Nicholas Maduro walked in there, gave a plea, and then, of course, was helicoptered back to his detention facility in Brooklyn.
00:06A big question right now, Miles, as to what comes next.
00:12Yeah, that's right. And, you know, the one thing that was really stark about that court hearing and reading the transcripts from our reporters in the court hearing is that it seems he hasn't grasped that he is on trial, will be going on trial here.
00:27He really believes that he should be treated differently because he is or was the president of a sovereign nation, not so much when you're in a federal courtroom.
00:36Nicholas Maduro is back at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn tonight, as you said, pleading not guilty to those narco-terrorism charges.
00:45He's at MDC Brooklyn, which is one of the toughest federal jails in the country.
00:49Federal judges have called it dreadful, dangerous, barbaric, and high-risk detainees there are in specialized housing.
00:56Twenty-three hours he will spend in his cell. There's rotten food. There have been thin mattresses there, filthy toilets.
01:03The lights are always on, no view from the outside. It is very different than what it was like in Caracas at the palatial mansion he was living in.
01:11One week ago, he was at his palace in Caracas greeting foreign leaders, including the foreign leaders from China who were there just on Friday.
01:18Now he's in that cell 23 hours a day. There are health concerns for him.
01:23His attorney, Barry Pollack, told the court today that he has health and medical issues that must be addressed.
01:29He is, after all, 62 years old.
01:31And there have been questions about his health for over many years, including significant weight gain, concerns about diabetes and heart issues.
01:39His wife also has medical injury issues that were sustained during the arrest in Caracas.
01:45MDC has faced criticism over the years for health care, and when you're confined 23 hours a day with limited movement, those conditions can deteriorate.
01:53The judge set a calendar, pre-trial motions in place today.
01:58His lawyers will challenge those charges, the evidence, and how he was captured.
02:03Discovery will be massive. That is an understatement.
02:0725 years of alleged activity, wiretaps, witnesses, financial records, flight logs, thousands of pages.
02:14And so the court case will continue on March 17th.
02:18The next time we'll see him in that motorcade coming right back here to the courthouse.
