00:00Hey everyone, and welcome back to our super exciting adventure through history.
00:05Today, we're going on a huge journey with the king, a special golden box, and a whole lot of celebrating.
00:11It's the story of how King David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.
00:16Get ready, because the story is full of twists, turns, and some really important lessons.
00:22So, let's set the scene.
00:24Imagine a brand new king named David.
00:26He's just become the king of all of Israel, and he has a really big dream.
00:31He wants to bring everyone together, not just as one big country, but as one big family that worships God together.
00:38And at the heart of this big plan was something incredibly special, the Ark of the Covenant.
00:43Now, what is this Ark?
00:45It wasn't just any old box.
00:47This was a beautiful chest covered in gold with two golden angels on top.
00:52It was built way back when Moses was leading the people, and it was a symbol that God was right there with them.
00:58It was like God's special throne on earth.
01:01For a long, long time, the Ark had been away from the center of things.
01:06It had even been captured by enemies, the Philistines, and then returned.
01:11But it wasn't in its proper place.
01:13David knew that to truly unite the nation, he needed to bring the Ark to the new capital city, Jerusalem.
01:18So, David gathered 30,000 of his best men.
01:22That's like a whole stadium full of people.
01:25He was so excited.
01:26He thought, we're going to bring the Ark to Jerusalem, and it's going to be the biggest party ever.
01:32They went to a house in a place called Kiriak-Jerim, where the Ark had been staying.
01:36They put the Ark on a brand new car, pulled by strong oxen, and started their big parade toward Jerusalem.
01:43Everyone was singing, playing harps, lyres, tambourines, and cymbals.
01:48The music was loud.
01:50The people were cheering.
01:51It was a huge celebration.
01:53But then, something totally unexpected and sad happened.
01:57As the cart was rolling along, the oxen stumbled.
02:00A man named Ezra, who was helping guide the cart, reached out his hand to stop the Ark from falling.
02:06And in that very moment, he fell down and died.
02:10Suddenly, all the music stopped.
02:12All the cheering faded away.
02:14Everyone was shocked and confused.
02:16Why did this happen?
02:17David was heartbroken, but he was also a little scared of God.
02:21He realized he must have done something wrong.
02:24He thought, how can I possibly bring the Ark of God to my city if this is what happens?
02:29He understood that even with good intentions, you have to do things God's way.
02:34The law given to Moses said that the Ark was so holy, it was only supposed to be carried by special pulls on the shoulders of the priests, the Levites.
02:43They had used a new cart, just like their enemies, the Philistines, had, instead of following God's specific instructions.
02:51It was a tough lesson.
02:52Being close to God is wonderful, but it also requires respect and obedience.
02:58Feeling unsure, David decided to pause the journey.
03:02He left the Ark at the nearby house of a man named Old Dedham.
03:06And guess what happened?
03:07For the three months the Ark stayed there.
03:09God blessed Old Dedham and his entire family like crazy.
03:13Everything they did was successful.
03:15When David heard about all the amazing blessings Old Dedham was receiving, his fear turned back into excitement.
03:22He realized that God's presence wasn't something to be afraid of, but something to be welcomed, as long as it was done the right way.
03:30So, David decided to try again.
03:33But this time, he was going to do it exactly as God commanded.
03:37No more carts!
03:38He had the Levites, the special priests, prepare themselves.
03:41They carefully lifted the Ark onto their shoulders, using the long poles designed for carrying it.
03:47They were ready.
03:49The second procession was even more joyful than the first.
03:52David had learned his lesson.
03:54This time, the celebration was filled not just with excitement, but with deep respect.
03:59Every six steps the priests took, they stopped and offered sacrifices to God, showing their thankfulness and honor.
04:07And King David himself!
04:08He was so filled with joy that he couldn't contain it.
04:11He took off his royal robes and wore a simple linen garment, the kind of priests would wear.
04:17And he danced.
04:18I mean, he really danced.
04:20He leaped and twirled and celebrated with all his might right in front of the Ark.
04:25He wasn't worried about looking silly or what other people thought of him as a king.
04:29He was just a guy who was overjoyed that God's presence was finally coming home.
04:34To the heart of his kingdom, he was showing everyone that his greatest joy was in honoring God.
04:39As they entered Jerusalem, the whole city erupted in celebration.
04:44There were shouts of joy and a loud blast of trumpets.
04:47It was the moment everyone had been waiting for.
04:50They placed the Ark inside a special tent that David had prepared for it right in the center of the city.
04:56Jerusalem was now not just the political capital where the king lived, but it was also the spiritual capital where God's presence dwelled among his people.
05:06Once the Ark was in place, David gave burnt offerings and peace offerings to God.
05:11This was his way of saying thank you and celebrating the new peace and unity in the nation.
05:17Then, he did something super kind.
05:19He blessed all the people and gave every single person there, man and woman, a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins.
05:29It was like a huge national barbecue.
05:31He was sharing the blessing he had received with everyone.
05:34Bringing the Ark to Jerusalem was a game changer.
05:37It was like plugging in a giant power source of faith and unity for the whole country.
05:43Everyone from the north to the south now had one central place to come and worship.
05:49This event firmly established Jerusalem as the holy city and paved the way for David's son, Solomon, to eventually build a magnificent temple for the Ark.
05:59The story of David and the Ark teaches us so many cool things.
06:03First, it shows us the importance of obedience.
06:05David's first attempt failed because he didn't follow God's instructions.
06:11But when he did it God's way, it was a massive success.
06:14It reminds us that when we want to honor God, we should listen carefully to what he asks of us.
06:20Second, it shows us the pure joy of worship.
06:23David's dancing is one of the most famous parts of this story.
06:27He wasn't holding back.
06:28His worship was energetic, wholehearted, and came straight from a place of love and gratitude.
06:34It's a great reminder that worship isn't about being quiet and still all the time.
06:39It can also be about celebrating with everything you've got.
06:43And finally, it shows us how one person's vision can bring everyone together.
06:48David's dream of a unified nation centered on God became a reality.
06:52By bringing the Ark to Jerusalem, he created a shared identity for all the people of Israel.
06:58They were God's people, and the Ark was approved, right in the middle of their capital city.
07:04So, from its construction at Mount Sinai, it's captured by the Philistines, its journey back.
07:10And its final triumph and arrival in Jerusalem, the Ark of the Covenant had quite an adventure.
07:16And through it all, it remained a powerful symbol of God's presence, his covenant, and his incredible faithfulness to his people.
07:24David's joyful dancing parade was more than just a party.
07:27It was the start of a new chapter for an entire nation.
07:31Thanks so much for joining me on this amazing journey today.
