00:00U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his warning that Washington could raise tariffs on India
00:06if New Delhi does not cut back its purchases of Russian oil.
00:11Speaking to reporters about Air Force One,
00:14Trump said India's trade ties with Russia remain a point of tension.
00:19He added that higher tariffs could be imposed very quickly if U.S. demands are not met.
00:24Last year, the U.S. doubled tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent,
00:31citing India's heavy buying of discounted Russian crude.
00:35Despite the higher duties, Indian exports to the U.S. rose sharply in November,
00:40strengthening New Delhi's position in ongoing trade talks.
00:44Reuters reported that New Delhi has asked refiners for weekly disclosures of Russian and U.S. oil purchases,
00:50with expectations that Russian imports could fall below one million barrels per day.
00:56Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken with Trump several times since the tariff increases,
01:01but talks have so far failed to produce a breakthrough.
01:05The warning comes as Washington continues to press partners to reduce energy ties with Moscow
01:11following Russia's war with Ukraine.
