00:00Well, the protests that you saw were basically from a little base of voters or supporters that Maduro, the regime of Maduro, still have.
00:11It wasn't very popular. Like we can see in the images, there weren't a lot of people.
00:17It wasn't a massive turnout. What we've seen is a lot of people trying to go out to buy groceries, to try to purchase water in huge lines to go and fill their tanks with gasoline.
00:34So this is pretty much what we've seen on the streets. On the other side, well, people are very much concerned of what's going on, what will go on in the country in the coming days after Trump's speech and after Delcio Rodriguez's speech.
00:53There's a state of commotion, anxiousness and even confusion in Venezuela at the moment.
00:58Right. Now, the Vice President, Delcio Rodriguez, gave an address today saying, quote, we are ready to defend Venezuela. Let's first take a listen to what she said.
01:11We demand the immediate release of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores.
01:19The only president of Venezuela is President Nicolas Maduro.
01:22In national unity, the Venezuelan people will find the path to peace and tranquility.
01:32Nora, so what else did Rodriguez say? And is everything then in place for her to indeed succeed Maduro?
01:42Well, what we can say is that this speech doesn't align at all with what Trump said earlier.
01:47He said that he was ready to make a transition, of course, with the U.S. in control, but a transition with Delcio Rodriguez, which is the vice president, the vice president de facto.
02:02So it doesn't align very much with that intention.
02:06The vice president of Venezuela is a radicalized speech, as they used to be.
02:12They always claim that the U.S. is after the Venezuelan assets and that they will defend the country at any cost.
02:22And he is even defending Nicolas Maduro, which is very odd and very strange, given the point, given the situation.
02:30And also she declared a state of emergency, a state of international commotion, which basically gives herself powers to do basically whatever she wants with the country.
02:43She can either decree a curfew or suspend all institutional and legal rights.
02:53And this is something really dangerous for Venezuelans.
02:56Normally, this kind of decrees go through the National Assembly, they get voted, and afterwards they go to the National Gazette for every Venezuelans to know what's going on and what is forbidden.
03:10But at this point, we don't even know what they are ready to do.
03:13And this doesn't align at all with what Trump was saying earlier in his speech.
03:18Now, speaking of Trump's comments, he said the operation overnight was, quote, dark and deadly.
03:24Just from a tactical point of view, what details do we know about how this operation actually unfolded?
03:32Well, what we know is that seven key points in the country, not just in the capital.
03:38Let's be clear, it wasn't just the capital.
03:40It was throughout the country.
03:42Seven of the most important military facilities were attacked.
03:46We don't know yet the casualties so far, no civilians, but it's probable a high number of military personnel, because let's remember that the most important that was affected, or two of the most important was La Carlota, which is the air base located at the very heart of the city.
04:08And the other one was the military school, the biggest fort, the biggest headquarter in Venezuela, the Tuna fort.
04:19And there's a lot of military personnel in there.
04:23The military school functions in there.
04:26Three of the four forces of the country are located in this facility.
04:32And the fourth one is the aviation, which was in La Carlota.
04:37So it's not a little thing that happened today and yesterday morning.
04:44And Norris, what will the Venezuelan military do next?
04:47I mean, where are their primary interests now in the absence of Nicolas Maduro?
04:51Well, I think that they will align with Delcy Rodriguez.
04:56I have said this before.
04:58It was only logical that Trump was seeking her help in this transition, because let's face it, Margarina Machado doesn't have the military support and never have had it.
05:10So who he has it is Delcy Rodriguez, which is part of the Maduro government, the Maduro inner circle.
05:20So, yeah, it was only logical that Trump was seeking her as an ally and that the military ranks are going to align with her at the end.
