00:20Dragons is the title of an exhibition at the Key Brandly Museum in Paris,
00:25which aims to share with visitors the mystery and charm of the Chinese dragon,
00:30the mythological beast often seen in Chinese New Year celebrations.
00:36Unlike the dragons familiar in the Western world, Chinese dragons symbolize valor, power, strength, confidence, and ambition.
00:47According to the exhibition curators, the depiction of this creature dates back 5,000 years to the Neolithic period.
00:55Here, on display is a jade artifact representing a pig dragon from the Hongshan culture.
01:02Dragons have a very long history in Chinese civilization.
01:08It starts probably from the Neolithic period.
01:11We can see here the first pieces of the exhibition is what is called the dragon pig from Hongshan culture in jade.
01:24Most of the objects in the exhibition focus on the dragon as a symbol of Chinese cultural identity.
01:31Bronze vessels from the Shang and Western dynasties feature dragons coiled around the edges and handles.
01:38The fierce face of a guardian dragon painted in a Tang dynasty tomb,
01:43as well as a Ming dynasty scroll depicting a dragon emerging from ink,
01:47are among other pieces on display.
01:50The dragon is a transformation creature, hybrid creature.
01:55So it can take a lot of different shapes.
01:58It can be represented in ceramics, in architecture, in paintings, so in any kind of materials or shapes.

02:17such as paintings of Ming and Qing emperors, diplomatic documents, and imperial jade seals.
