00:00uh soderstrom what that came through on the ticker on christmas i'm pretty sure i'm pretty
00:05sure jeff passed and tweeted that one out on on christmas so i i don't know if the deal was done
00:10before that and just came out a little bit after of course just jeff jeff's not missing that uh
00:16he's getting that out on christmas and uh i mean heck of a christmas gift for soderstrom to just
00:21lock up 86 million dollars for yourself uh you know at what 20 what is he 25 uh 24 he's a young
00:3124 he just turned 24 on november 24th but this guy's got a seven-year 86 million dollar contract
00:39extension with the athletics there is also a club option in 2033 so soderstrom is going to make about
00:4612 and a half million dollars if you were to look at average annual value but this guy i'm sure will
00:52escalate he's in his pre-arb years right now he's got one more year pre-arb on the league minimum
00:57until he gets into his arbitration years and they bought out a couple of free agent years as well
01:02this is a signal on the heels of brent rooker and lawrence butler last year that the athletics are
01:11ready to commit to the core that is going to be in vegas for at least the first couple of years
01:14and the deals are tyler soderstrom seven for 86 with a 2033 club option brent rooker five for 60
01:21million dollars with a vesting option in 2030 and you've got lawrence butler their young prized
01:26outfielder at a seven-year 65 and a half million dollar extension with a club option for 2032 so you
01:32have your two corner outfielders locked up through at least 2032 you have your dh that was a threat
01:38to hit 300 with 40 homers two years ago locked up through 2030 effectively whenever that like year
01:45whenever it starts with a 203 you feel really good about where your team's at right now on december
01:5129th or 30th 2025 i mean dude it seems like this is the next iteration of a's baseball coming to fruition
02:00in front of our eyes like in front of everybody's face they found their new chapman and olsen and they
02:06found three guys and they got kurtz who's the best of the bunch that still remains unextended but i
02:10wouldn't be shocked to see that one come through yeah i wonder if that's one where kurtz is sitting
02:14on his end and saying yeah the price tag might just be a little too steeper or you know they want to see
02:19him do it a little bit more and and then maybe they will meet that price tag so that part's going to
02:23be fun uh to monitor but i i think you look at the timing of things too for the athletics right like
02:30they're supposed to depending on construction and everything it seems like what they'll be in vegas for the
02:342028 season right and you have this core locked up for the first couple years at least that you are
02:41out there you know in in vegas on this new foray to not only maintain whatever fans you do still have
02:51hopefully but also to endear yourself to an entirely new market one that's not huge so to win over the
02:58locals you're gonna have to put on a pretty good product or you're gonna have to put a product on the
03:01field that people were actually who are out of town visiting are willing to go see the vegas golden
03:06knights had a really really good start because hockey and expansion franchises it almost seems to
03:11be a hack where you're actually better i'm speaking out of turn i don't know anything about hockey but
03:15it seems like every time you had an expansion franchise actually do pretty well at least the
03:18vegas team was an example of that it's not like that in baseball but also i think even when you're
03:24moving to a new city if you keep trying to do the small market thing it's not a great way to win over
03:29new fans we saw it's actually a great way to lose fans so you know i think they're trying to come
03:33into vegas hot uh and i like that but also these are just good objectively good baseball decisions
03:37right and this is the way that every mid-market team should operate the athletics have been operating
03:42like a small market team i think the move to vegas has them operating like a mid-market team
03:45and we talk about how you know the the diamondbacks do a lot of savvy things like that some other teams
03:51that we talk about you know we'll take the opportunities when they have leverage to you know extend
03:56and i really feel like this is a great great time to do that for them as a team and as as a franchise
