00:01:09Right? And, you know, it's interesting that for the past 15 years, ancient aliens has explored ancient mysteries,

00:01:18mythologies, legends, and monuments and things like that.

00:01:23But we've also started to incorporate modern-day phenomena.

00:01:26But the bottom line is that these things have been happening long before Roswell.

00:01:32Yeah, and it's interesting, you know, the term UFO didn't really exist until 1952.

00:01:37But the idea of an alien craft, it's probably not a thought that would have even have occurred to ancient man.

00:01:43Right.

00:01:43But think about all those ancient accounts of flying shields, flying canoes, flying chariots.

00:01:48Or flying, fire-breathing dragons.

00:01:51I mean, in my opinion, all these are cases of what I refer to as misunderstood technology.

00:01:58I love that we're beginning this ancient close encounter show with one of the earliest examples

00:02:04that we've presented in the first episode of Ancient Aliens, and those are those little models of birds.

00:02:10And it turns out that these birds feature aerodynamics, and this has been proven.

00:02:17Saqqara, Egypt.

00:02:25Located roughly 20 miles south of Cairo, it is home to the world-famous Step Pyramid of King Djoser.

00:02:34Dating back more than 4,000 years, it is the oldest of Egypt's 97 pyramids.

00:02:40Saqqara is also famous for being one of Egypt's oldest burial grounds, earning it the nickname City of the Dead.

00:02:51It was here in 1891 that French archaeologists unearthed an ancient tomb,

00:02:59containing the burial remains of Padi Iman, an official from the 3rd century B.C.

00:03:06Among the various items discovered was a small wooden model of what appeared to be a bird,

00:03:13lying beside a papyrus, bearing the inscription, I want to fly.

00:03:17The artifact was later sent to the Cairo Museum, where authorities placed it alongside several other bird figurines.

00:03:28The model sat largely unnoticed, until 1969, when Egyptologist Dr. Khalil Masia was examining the bird collection

00:03:38and noticed that there was something very different about the Saqqara bird.

00:03:42It's interesting, because on one hand, clearly, it should look like a bird,

00:03:48because it has eyes and it has a typical nose of a bird.

00:03:52On the other hand, the wings are clearly not bird wings.

00:03:56To the middle of the rum, you see, is the wing a bit thicker.

00:04:03In this region, the lift-up is the highest.

00:04:09The whole thing becomes thinner to the end of the wings,

00:04:14and those wings are modelled down.

00:04:18And this is a very modern aerodynamic design.

00:04:22Then the other point is, birds have no rudders,

00:04:26because a bird does not need a rudder, because of its aerodynamic architecture.

00:04:31And so, there is the idea that they are not representing birds,

00:04:36but flying machines or aircraft.

00:04:45Could the ancient Egyptians have possessed the power of flight?

00:04:48In 2006, aviation and aerodynamics expert Simon Sanderson

00:04:55built a scale model of the Saqqara bird,

00:04:58five times larger than the original, to test that possibility.

00:05:02We're running at a constant speed,

00:05:17slowly increasing the angle of attack,

00:05:20and then measuring the forces which it's producing.

00:05:22That way, we can learn about its flight characteristics.

00:05:26At 10 degrees, we're producing four times weight in lift,

00:05:30so it actually would be flying there.

00:05:32That's good.

00:05:33Tests shows the Saqqara bird is a highly developed glider.

00:05:41And this is a design we use today.

00:05:45During the Sanderson tests,

00:05:47it was discovered that the only thing preventing the Saqqara bird

00:05:50from achieving flight

00:05:51was the lack of a rear stabilizing rudder,

00:05:54or elevator, needed to maintain balance.

00:05:57Is it possible that the Saqqara bird

00:06:01ever possessed this critical component?

00:06:03What is missing is something like an elevator,

00:06:07but if you look at this feature here,

00:06:09then we may interpret that something like an elevator

00:06:14was connected here,

00:06:16but was lost during the history.

00:06:18But if the Saqqara bird is capable of flight,

00:06:24where would ancient Egyptians have acquired such technology?

00:06:28I think that people in ancient times

00:06:30were visited by beings coming not from this Earth,

00:06:34and they gave us culture and scientific technologies

00:06:38to improve our life on Earth,

00:06:42coming from the primitive to a higher developed culture.

00:06:46If ancient cultures would be able to produce

00:06:49any really flyable machine,

00:06:51they would be far more advanced than we believe today.

00:06:59So it changes our viewpoint of ancient societies.

00:07:04It's a fact that our ancestors were more intelligent

00:07:12and had more technological superiority capabilities

00:07:15than our history books give them credit for.

00:07:22the dense jungles and rugged mountains of Colombia

00:07:25contain a vast number of archaeological sites.

00:07:29Many treasure hunters believe the legendary city of gold,

00:07:36El Dorado, lies hidden here,

00:07:38somewhere under a thick canopy of trees.

00:07:43While the mythical metropolis has never been found,

00:07:47early in the 20th century,

00:07:49tomb robbers searching along the Magdalena River

00:07:51stumbled upon a gravesite dating back 1,500 years

00:07:56to a pre-Columbian civilization known as the Tolema.

00:08:01Among the funerary objects found there

00:08:03were hundreds of small 2- to 3-inch gold figurines.

00:08:07Many of those looked like insects and fish.

00:08:12However, out of those hundreds that they found,

00:08:15they also found about a dozen

00:08:18that are eerily reminiscent of modern-day fighter jets.

00:08:22They have a triangular shape.

00:08:31They have an upright tail fin,

00:08:35stabilizers,

00:08:37and a fuselage.

00:08:41And they have nothing in common

00:08:44with anything similar in nature.

00:08:48Could these gold objects

00:08:52really be proof

00:08:54that Earth has been visited by ancient aliens?

00:08:59shows typical swept wings,

00:09:02like with a modern aircraft.

00:09:05And if you compare it

00:09:06to something like a space shuttle,

00:09:08you see that the basic

00:09:10wing shape is very similar

00:09:13to wing shapes

00:09:15for high-speed aerodynamic bodies,

00:09:19like a space shuttle is.

00:09:22There is not a single insect in the world

00:09:24which has got its wings at the bottom.

00:09:26Now, when you exclude the possibility

00:09:27that it's an insect,

00:09:29one of the things which remain

00:09:30is the fact that this is actually, yes,

00:09:32what it looks like,

00:09:34a plane.

00:09:34In 1997,

00:09:38German aviation experts

00:09:40including Algun Inbohm

00:09:41and Peter Belting

00:09:43set out to prove the speculation

00:09:45by building a scale model replica

00:09:47of the Gold Flyer,

00:09:49fully equipped with landing gear

00:09:51and a working engine.

00:09:53It was rather simple

00:09:55because we don't need

00:09:57to put much parts

00:09:59to this shape

00:10:01because this shape is perfect.

00:10:03Everything was already done

00:10:06by the native people

00:10:10They did not add an inch

00:10:12or remove an inch.

00:10:14They just essentially

00:10:14blew the little thing

00:13:48are based on something real.

00:13:57some core of truth here

00:13:59really were

00:14:03in ancient times

00:14:04just like we do today.

00:14:08have reached Earth

00:14:09using the same type

00:14:11of propulsion systems

00:14:12we use today?

00:14:15may be found deep

00:14:16in the Indian subcontinent.

00:14:21Over 1.1 billion people

00:14:23crowd its modern cities

00:14:24and rural townships,

00:14:26speaking hundreds of languages

00:14:56Vimanas are aeroplanes

00:14:59and they are powered

00:15:01by some jet engines.

00:15:04This seems to be true

00:15:05because all the description

00:15:08of the flight behavior.

00:15:11Elephants ran away in panic.

00:15:15Grass was thrown out

00:15:18because there was a lot of pressure

00:15:20from behind those Vimanas

00:15:22so that we can say

00:15:25this is a description

00:15:26of the spaceship.

00:15:35Although mainstream historians

00:15:39many of the documents

00:15:41contain passages

00:15:41that seem to describe

00:15:43modern machinery

00:15:48that are used

00:15:49that are used in these craft.

00:15:51It talks about electricity

00:15:53and power sources.

00:15:55It talks about the pilots

00:15:56and the clothing

00:15:57they have to wear.

00:15:59It talks about the food

00:16:00that they eat.

00:16:01It talks even about

00:16:02the weapons

00:16:03that are kept

00:16:04on these airships.

00:16:06The flight manuals

00:16:07of the Vimanas

00:16:08are quite similar

00:16:09to the flight manuals

00:16:11you find

00:16:11in the modern

00:16:12passenger flight business

00:16:14or when you go

00:16:16to the military jet engines.

00:16:19they have also

00:16:20flight manuals

00:16:21because it's necessary

00:16:22for a pilot

00:16:23to get knowledge

00:16:26about his plane

00:16:27he wanted to fly with.

01:17:42a major thunderstorm

01:17:44rolled across New Mexico.

01:17:48The next morning,

01:17:51went out

01:17:52to check on the damage.

01:17:55everything was

01:17:56where it was supposed

01:17:56to be,

01:17:57and he came across

01:17:58this really extensive

01:17:59area of debris,

01:18:01stuff he had never

01:18:02seen before.

01:18:04sheriff's office.

01:18:06In 1947,

01:18:08Roswell was home

01:18:08to Roswell Army Airfield.

01:18:12The sheriff called

01:18:13the base,

01:18:14the base sent

01:18:15Major Jess Marcel,

01:18:16and at that point,

01:18:17it basically became

01:18:18a military site

01:18:19as they gathered up

01:18:20every bit of debris

01:18:21they could find.

01:18:22In their initial report,

01:18:24Army officials

01:18:25made a vague claim

01:18:26of having started

01:18:27the recovery

01:18:28of the debris

01:18:28sometime last week.

01:18:30But why didn't

01:18:33the Army report

01:18:34their findings

01:18:34right away?

01:18:36And why were they

01:18:37so ambiguous

01:18:37about the timeline?

01:18:41One of the biggest

01:18:42things we have

01:18:43is the newspaper

01:18:45of July 8, 1947,

01:18:47where Colonel Blanchard

01:18:48issued an order

01:18:49to Lieutenant Walter Haught,

01:18:51who was the public

01:18:51information officer,

01:18:53saying, basically,

01:18:54we have in our possession

01:18:55of flying saucers

01:18:55being taken to Fort Worth

01:18:57to higher headquarters.

01:18:58Roswell was a real

01:19:00turning point

01:19:01for ufology.

01:19:02I think that was

01:19:03because the military

01:19:05for the first time

01:19:06admitted that they

01:19:08had a crash disc.

01:19:10And because it was

01:19:11admitted at the time,

01:19:12of course,

01:19:13it caused a sensation.

01:19:16Then July 9,

01:19:17General Ramey

01:19:18issued a press release

01:19:19saying, no,

01:19:20it was a weather balloon.

01:19:22And that started

01:19:23the best documented

01:19:25UFO cover-up ever.

01:19:30referred to the debris

01:19:32as being part

01:19:33of a flying disc.

01:20:02think modern technology

01:20:04may have recently provided

01:20:06the irrefutable evidence

01:20:08they have been looking for.

01:20:13took the debris

01:20:14to Fort Worth

01:20:15and General Ramey

01:20:17spread it out
