00:00:01Come on, Teddy! Throw it as high as you can!
00:00:05Oh, no...
00:00:09Uh-oh.
00:00:19Come on, let's get out of here!
00:00:30Teddy, let's go!
00:00:35Come on, Teddy. Do the right thing.
00:00:42Do we have a ruling?
00:00:44We have mischief, destruction, and evasion.
00:00:46All level 2 violations. We can close the book on him.
00:00:50Naughty.
00:00:51Thank you, Inspector 0-6.
00:00:54Some kids have to learn the hard way.
00:00:56I'm not really a parking attendant.
00:00:58I'm a naughty or nice inspector.
00:01:00And when a kid falls somewhere in between,
00:01:02they send me to get a closer look.
00:01:05It's not your typical job,
00:01:06but then again, I've never really lived a typical life.
00:01:11That's me, and my trusty suitcase.
00:01:13When you move around like I did,
00:01:15it can be your best ally.
00:01:17I was on my own from a young age,
00:01:19which meant I had a lot of different homes,
00:01:21but none that were really my own.
00:01:24So I got good at blending in.
00:01:26Once I got older,
00:01:27someone came to interview me for a job
00:01:29I hadn't applied for.
00:01:30I guess you could say I made their list.
00:01:33And that's where I've been ever since.
00:01:35It's funny.
00:01:36Life just has a way...
00:01:38I'm so sorry.
00:01:40I don't know how I didn't see you there.
00:01:46I'm gonna need this.
00:01:47Oh, thank you.
00:01:48Thank you so much.
00:01:49It's probably where I should come clean about double parking on the next block.
00:01:53Oh, well.
00:01:54You're lucky I'm off duty.
00:01:55I'm off duty.
00:02:03Oh, you forgot.
00:02:04This is where the magic happens.
00:02:19The naughty or nice group headquarters.
00:02:21A company specially designed for the enormous task of judging the behavior of every single kid in the world.
00:02:26Welcome back.
00:02:27The office is buzzing about Teddy Stevenson.
00:02:29Rolling the baseball?
00:02:30How did you know to intervene like that?
00:02:31Article 48, section one,
00:02:33louser passive intervention,
00:02:34as long as it doesn't change the behavior of the child.
00:02:36Oldest trick in the book.
00:02:38Wait.
00:02:39I don't know you.
00:02:40Oh, I'm Heidi.
00:02:41Your new assistant.
00:02:42It's an honor.
00:02:43Coffee, splash of oat.
00:02:44Nice to meet you.
00:02:45Just as I was getting to know...
00:02:47Alan?
00:02:48Brett told me they cycle through pretty quickly.
00:02:51I wanted to hit the ground running, so I've been studying the stuff you left around the office.
00:02:54Did you know the file cabinet was filled with half-eaten bags of chips?
00:02:58It's been a stressful season.
00:03:00Ah.
00:03:02Also, you have 64 days of phone and mail messages.
00:03:05One of them is jury duty.
00:03:06Oh, the irony.
00:03:07And lastly, we got this from the audits department.
00:03:09Looks like they want you to revisit Eddie Gomes' naughty case.
00:03:12They say he's turned it around.
00:03:13There goes my morning.
00:03:14The audits team loves to waste my time reviewing this stuff.
00:03:17You don't think he's changed?
00:03:1920 years of being an inspector, guess how many naughty kids have changed?
00:03:22Zero.
00:03:26Buongiorno and buongiorno.
00:03:28It's so nice, I have to say it twice.
00:03:30Oh, good morning Giuseppe.
00:03:32The best inspectors are either really good at blending in or reading people.
00:03:36He's a reader.
00:03:38I have something for this awful day you're having.
00:03:40How do you know him?
00:03:41Your eyebrows.
00:03:42They say everything.
00:03:43Big line down your forehead.
00:03:45Maybe someday it'll stay that way.
00:03:48Okay, allora, eh?
00:03:50These are for you.
00:03:51To celebrate last weeks of the season.
00:03:54Eh?
00:03:55Do you see?
00:03:56They're you.
00:03:57Eh?
00:03:58It's you.
00:03:59Oh.
00:04:00Hmm.
00:04:01Thanks Giuseppe.
00:04:02Eh?
00:04:03You see?
00:04:04That's so nice.
00:04:05This is you.
00:04:06Ah, ah.
00:04:07Happy.
00:04:08Sad.
00:04:09And mi piace Java.
00:04:10Well, let go.
00:04:11And then you go.
00:04:12Yeah.
00:04:13Oh.
00:04:13First time.
00:04:41Is this the eyes of the world?
00:04:43It's so much for Elf on a Shelf.
00:04:56Oh, don't be ridiculous.
00:04:57He's been a very effective partner for us.
00:05:11Hi, Fred.
00:05:19How's it going?
00:05:21Sorry, Isabelle.
00:05:22I really don't have the bandwidth for idle chit-chat.
00:05:24List lock is on the 24th.
00:05:26I hear you.
00:05:27I have two weeks left and Audit's just sent me a reconsider.
00:05:31Listen, I really need to see Eddie Gomes' new tape just to get them off my back.
00:05:39This tape hasn't been logged yet.
00:05:40You can access it tomorrow.
00:05:41I might be halfway around the world by then.
00:05:48Is that real gingerbread?
00:06:00Hmm.
00:06:01Hmm.
00:06:02I don't know who you tell me.
00:06:11Welcome, Inspector 036.
00:06:13Uploading Eddie Gomes' tape for review.
00:06:19Oh, wow.
00:06:20Destroying everyone's plans but his own.
00:06:32That's your ballgame.
00:06:33Wait.
00:06:34Already?
00:06:35Yeah.
00:06:36We just witnessed malice, deceit, and destruction.
00:06:37All red-letter contact violations.
00:06:38But that bottle was right next to the fertilizer.
00:06:39What if you thought that they were the same thing?
00:06:40Something you'll learn here very quickly, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.
00:07:01this is where the naughty or nice sausage gets made they call it the pit all the information
00:07:12we collect is gathered here by these guys the number crunchers imagine an entire year's worth
00:07:18of information boiled down to a naughty or nice in a matter of seconds now most cases are clear
00:07:23cut but every once in a while they fall somewhere in between and that's where i come in oscar wow
00:07:29this place looks great hey thanks you like it the higher-ups they took our trees away budget cuts
00:07:36but a few of us pitched in we decorated ourselves looks so good i love it thank you hey what can i
00:07:42do for you well i just reviewed eddie gums new tape you're never gonna believe it

00:08:15i've seen the trends as well but i wouldn't call them troubling
00:08:26exactly i can't do anything about the uh naughty ones i can only point out where there's an infestation
00:08:39no no no no no that's not the language that we use uh in fact i think you're gonna love where
00:08:44we're heading next i'll have nancy send over a copy of the plan give it a look-see all right mr
00:08:51crendle you as well wow sorry to interrupt i heard rumor that you're spending too much time on the road
00:08:59well i guess that depends on your definition of too much the building accidentally gave away your
00:09:03parking spot two months ago and no one reported it until this morning when you parked in it i have
00:09:09been quite busy isabel you're one of my best oh thank you sir so you can be candid if there's something
00:09:17wrong i'm just really trying to make a difference that's exactly what i wanted to hear water sure thank
00:09:24you did i ever tell you the story of why i started this company yes but not recently
00:09:39it was four when it first happened that christmas morning i burst out of bed with excitement
00:09:46climbed down to the living room where my stocking was hung convinced that it would contain
00:09:52a gift i treasured a double action slingshot to prank my friend's weapon but instead i found only
00:10:01disaster i'm embarrassed to say that my name has found its way to the naughty list i spent the next
00:10:1010 years trying to clear it to prove to senator that he had gotten it wrong so on my 14th christmas i woke
00:10:16but to my disappointment my stocking still held the coal if anything and it gotten bigger from that
00:10:26moment forward i i committed my life to writing that wrong creating an algorithm to ensure that no
00:10:33child would have to suffer the injustice of being wrongfully labeled naughtiness needed mathematical
00:10:38certainty and with this company that is what i've delivered wow just so brave
00:10:54i know but i tell you this story for a reason your work ethic your integrity are the hallmarks
00:11:01i had in mind when i created this firm and the board agrees if this season goes as the others have
00:11:07you're on track for a promotion to partner oh wow i don't even know what to say thank you that
00:11:15being said while you are the front runner there is one other candidate in contention for the promotion
00:11:20oh really who's that giuseppe giuseppe oh did i hear my name giuseppe hey giuseppe right on cue brother
00:11:30hang tight i'll be right with you there's something about him that reminds me of myself i can't put my
00:11:38finger on it is it that he's a man ridiculous he's just strong and commanding and so relatable to me
00:11:44now listen there's no reason why you have to look over your shoulder you just take care of business
00:11:53this holiday season and you'll have a lot to celebrate this christmas thank you sir on your way
00:11:58out would you mind sitting in giuseppe hey this time i am sure of it

00:12:30airport that's quite the rap sheet no it's always the ones you least suspect oh um your car oh did
00:12:39you give me a ride to the impound lot
00:12:51being an inspector is all about how close you can get to the action so disguises are key you have
00:12:56exactly 72 hours to make the call but when you've been doing this as long as i have
00:13:00that's jobs late step right up for the amazing charlie prepare to witness things that shouldn't be
00:13:09possible for my first trick i'll need a real 20 dollar bill okay now watch as i make it
00:13:20disappear wow that's impressive look at that slide of hand okay who's next
00:13:30maybe did she just take his money okay disappear wow okay who's next
00:13:42naughty
00:13:51inspector jobs aren't for everyone it's isolating it's grueling requires you to live a life of strict
00:13:56anonymity after all if kids know exactly who we were they'd have no reason to be themselves
00:14:10as you can imagine there are some very strict rules in this line of work observations must be done in
00:14:35plain sight and inspectors are forbidden to make contact with their subjects
00:14:40i know you're hungry
00:14:49i know you're hungry
00:14:51i know you're hungry
00:15:03theft and disobedience

00:15:16okay see you tomorrow winston
00:15:19congratulations
00:15:31congratulations kid
00:15:33i'm officially confused
00:15:43i just couldn't make this easy
00:15:57while technically i haven't broken any rules you are prohibited from entering a subject's property
00:16:01rule 16 section 5 does state that there are exceptions when your view is inhibited
00:16:05now something i'm never allowed to do under any circumstance is make contact with a family member of the subject
00:16:12which fortunately i never have

00:26:01someone who's having a bad day but they still find a way to be kind
00:26:07i guess it just makes me feel like maybe the world's okay
00:26:09like i can do something small that matters even if no one knows i did it
00:26:17i think that's beautiful

00:35:22half i take you you've never had a tree topper that dragged on the floor i actually didn't have a
00:35:30christmas tree growing up really but i love to climb trees i would find i would find the tallest tree
00:35:38and i would sit in it for hours and i would just stare out at the christmas lights it was
00:35:43so beautiful made me feel like i was a part of it and i always leave behind these these little
00:35:48notes i had written while i was up there like what
00:35:55so some were wishes and some were just little fortunes i'd hope someone would find you know it's
00:36:01kind of like how you are with those restaurants like i felt like if i could just do something good
00:36:07then the rest would fall into place look out
00:36:14whoa sorry are you okay yeah we're good thanks guys

00:36:54charlie was just so connected with her mom when i lost her i didn't realize i'd be losing that part
00:36:59of charlie too then maybe this is a chance to get to know a whole new part of her you think
00:37:07look when you lose someone that young it's hard to find hope in anything anymore
00:37:12i think she just needs a reminder that she still has something worth believing in
00:37:19what's that
00:37:23you i found it
00:37:26i love it it's perfect and by that i mean hideous i'm naming him marvin and he's getting all the

00:39:38okay there's just there's got to be an exception
00:39:53okay here we go naughty behavior can be excused under one exception rule one there are no exceptions
00:40:00no that's just bad copywriting
00:40:11rules department hi this is isabel haynes i was hoping to get some help with a really difficult
00:40:17case case name uh charlie duncan what seems to be the problem well it's just complicated charlie's
00:40:23behavior is naughty but there's more to it than that i mean she's lost her mom and i think a lot of this
00:40:28it's just a girl acting out her grief um hello did i leave hello hello ma'am if the actions you've
00:40:37observed are objectively naughty you should follow the procedure stipulated under rule five section 52.
00:40:44no no but that's why you're not hearing me it's more complex than that she's been through a lot and
00:40:48she's really trying she's getting better and if she lands on the naughty list again i would just be
00:40:52devastated i mean she would just be so devastated ma'am if i may judgment can become difficult if you get
00:40:58too close to the subject okay well i'm gonna have to like file for an extension i mean i've never
00:41:04done that before is there like a button for it or something extensions are reviewed by the extensions
00:41:10committee i've emailed you the extension request packet on page 45 there's a section that says do
00:41:15not complete please complete it and a link to submit your 30-minute video testimonial please refrain
00:41:22from showing a motion in your testimonial or your request will automatically be denied
00:41:27okay all right i think i got those instructions thank you so much
00:41:36charlie i don't know if i have a rule to protect you
00:41:52i'm not available for conversation ah i couldn't agree more conversations are the worst that yuck
00:42:07it's just i heard a little rumor and i couldn't believe my ears
00:42:10he said there is a brother requested an extension of her case and if i'm not mistaken that's never
00:42:16happened before this is sounding like a conversation no no let's see friendy she's having trouble and
00:42:24she asked me if i can help problem is i can't help if i can't see the tape i can't give you access
00:42:30to the case footage unless you're assigned to the case of course you're right who was i thinking yes silly
00:42:36man um before i go one more thing do you like delicious bread of ginger come on grumpy friend
00:42:52i can see it is changing your mind bravo mancha kissy kissy with the ginger bread
00:42:59buongiorno inspector cinquantuno buongiorno che si da andiamo eh che bene magia bravo bravo
00:43:16well well well what do we have here does isabel have un segreto
00:43:29so i was preparing the invites for the reopening this morning and we are exactly where we need to be
00:43:35we just need to settle on our name i still don't get where we just can't call it pizza shop
00:43:44come on jimbo that's like naming your dog dog technically it works until you take it to the park
00:43:53look i know this is a difficult step so i went ahead and i prepared a direction for you
00:43:59all right
00:44:04introducing
00:44:08sips and slices you pick a pizza we pair it with a bottle of wine from our selection
00:44:14what do you think i don't know it's a little um
00:44:21frou-frou okay um i thought this was the direction we wanted to go in
00:44:28it elevates the pizza experience so that customers can finally appreciate your complex
00:44:32flavor profile yeah it's frou-frou
00:44:42charlie hey you want to give us your thoughts on something
00:44:45what do you think about this look for the restaurant
00:44:53it's too fancy thank you really you don't think it hits a cultural sweet spot
00:45:00i don't know what that is but when i have pizza i just want to have fun i like her
00:45:04okay all right all right let's start over so
00:45:14what else should it be it shouldn't be a stuffy place just for grown-ups it should be a place kids
00:45:21can go too okay what uh what makes it kid friendly
00:45:27remember lucia's where we could like draw on the table plots and there was like the music and stuff
00:45:33and the waiters would come out and sing la bumba yeah and remember when we made pizza at home
00:45:37mom would always save us some of the dough and we made little pizza people
00:45:40i forgot she used to do that
00:45:48i used to make a dessert back in school it was like a pizza sunday where you could pick your toppings
00:45:54i want one of those i might have some waffle cone stuff out in the back come on come on dad okay
00:46:16see you later
00:46:24look this is only going to end one way
00:46:54oh no
00:47:14oh no
00:47:24Come on, Charlie.
00:47:27Come on.
00:47:37Charlie, what are you doing?
00:47:40What are you doing?
00:47:41Can I help you, ice cream lady?
00:47:45She's not an ice cream lady, Wanda.
00:47:47She's my dad's girlfriend.
00:47:49She's a spy.
00:47:50And not a very good one.
00:47:52What are you doing here?
00:47:53Oh, I was just, you know, in the neighborhood.
00:47:56Seems to happen a lot.
00:47:58I just, I heard screaming.
00:48:00Oh, gotta be me.
00:48:02Gotta be excited.
00:48:03Charlie hid my $20 bill in my back pocket.
00:48:08Wow, in your pocket.
00:48:11Right.
00:48:13I'm so sorry.
00:48:14I just, I'm gonna, you know, I'm gonna go.
00:48:18You should stay.
00:48:19Hmm?
00:48:20We were just about to start our ornaments.
00:48:22I think it was Lunkhead.
00:48:34Or maybe Bozo.
00:48:35It was definitely Bozo.
00:48:37Oh, Bozo's my favorite.
00:48:40Anyway, I lost my patience.
00:48:43And if I could have climbed over the pharmacy counter, I would have.
00:48:48But it was Christmas.
00:48:49And also, I was practically blind.
00:48:52Even now, I'm like a bat.
00:48:54Except for when I roll my eyes.
00:48:57Then this lady stepped out of line and stormed right up to the front.
00:49:03And with a calm voice, she said,
00:49:06If you don't give her the prescription, I'll make sure you never work in this state again.
00:49:11And she was just petty enough to do it.
00:49:15You never saw a pharmacist move faster in your life.
00:49:20Her mother and I ran into each other a lot at that pharmacy.
00:49:27Especially toward the end.
00:49:29But eventually, she found out I used to be a magician and asked me to perform at Charlie's birthday.
00:49:37Just like that?
00:49:38Oh, that was Audrey.
00:49:40She could see people for who they were.
00:49:42I wasn't just a stranger to her.
00:49:45No one was.
00:49:46Needless to say, the party never happened.
00:49:56But I still showed up.
00:50:01And Charlie and I spent the day together learning every card trick in the book.
00:50:09That's amazing.
00:50:11Is that how these magic lessons started?
00:50:14Actually, that was all Charlie.
00:50:18When she found out I was living alone, she insisted on helping out.
00:50:23Running errands, picking up mail, and my prescriptions.
00:50:29Got all the good parts of her mama.
00:50:35I don't know where I'd be without her.
00:50:44Charlie.
00:50:45Charlie.
00:50:46Charlie.
00:50:46Charlie.
00:50:47No, no.
00:50:48Hey, Charlie.
00:50:49You told me you spied to find out if someone was nice.
00:50:52Okay, I can explain all of this.
00:50:54No, if you didn't like me, you should have just said so.
00:51:12Can we just talk?
00:51:14Please.
00:51:15Do you mind if we...
00:51:16Can we sit?
00:51:27I lost my mom, too, you know.
00:51:30When I was seven.
00:51:33And my dad wasn't around.
00:51:35I moved a lot.
00:51:36I know what it's like to lose faith in people and feel like nobody believes in you.
00:51:45I did lie to you.
00:51:47The day I was at your house, I didn't work for the power company.
00:51:52I was there because I was assigned to you.
00:51:57And what are you talking about?
00:51:58I work for someone you know and someone who is very famous.
00:52:05And...
00:52:05I...
00:52:06Goodness, this is tricky.
00:52:11Um...
00:52:11I work for a company that outsources the naughty or nice list for Santa.
00:52:19And it's my job to find out who's what.
00:52:23You're telling me you work for Santa?
00:52:25Yes, yep, that's it, that's who.
00:52:29I mean, not directly, I don't actually report to him.
00:52:31So you were lying about the power company job, this cookie job, and you're telling the truth about working for Santa.
00:52:39You're skeptical, I totally understand.
00:52:41All that stuff about Santa checking his list?
00:52:45That's just me.
00:52:50Charlie, I know you're good.
00:52:53And I just want to make sure you don't get cold again.
00:52:56See, that's where you're wrong.
00:52:57I've never gotten cold for Christmas.
00:52:59Jason, I have given this a lot of thought, but I'm not who you think I am.
00:53:23And for as much trouble as this may bring, I can't keep it up anymore.
00:53:28I'm an inspector for the naughty or nice list.
00:53:32I understand you may have some questions, or...
00:53:34I just want to sit there in silence.
00:53:36That's...
00:53:37That's fine.
00:53:38Maybe we could just sit here and walk with me.
00:53:39Oh, hi.
00:53:40Hi.
00:53:40Hi.
00:53:41Hi.
00:53:41Are we talking to someone?
00:53:43I...
00:53:43I...
00:53:44Um...
00:53:45You look great.
00:53:46Wow.
00:53:46Oh.
00:53:47Well, thank you very much.
00:53:48It's a...
00:53:48It's a new jacket.
00:53:49I'm sorry I'm late.
00:53:53I was dropping Charlie off at Chuck E. Cheese to a birthday party.
00:53:57It's so weird.
00:53:58There's so much construction around there over the holidays.
00:54:01And every year.
00:54:03Yeah.
00:54:03So weird.
00:54:04You will never believe what I found yesterday.
00:54:08I figured it out.
00:54:09Figured what out?
00:54:11Well, Annette, you left it behind when we bumped into each other.
00:54:18Yeah, about, about, about...
00:54:19And speaking from experience here, I know we all take our jobs very seriously.
00:54:24And sometimes that means, you know, shaming people for minor traffic violations.
00:54:30Jason, I was never a parking attendant.
00:54:37I don't...
00:54:37I don't understand.
00:54:40Jason, these last few days have been a whirlwind for me.
00:54:44Yeah, for me too.
00:54:46But I've come to realize that I'm not being fair to you.
00:54:51I have to tell you something.
00:54:52Okay.
00:54:55This is...
00:54:56This is work.
00:54:56I'm so sorry.
00:54:57No, of course.
00:54:58Take it.
00:54:58Yeah.
00:55:00Hey, Heidi, what's up?
00:55:02Isabelle.
00:55:03I hope it's not a bad time, but just wanted to find out.
00:55:07How quickly can you get on a plane?
00:55:09A plane?
00:55:10Why?
00:55:11It's...
00:55:11About Charlie's dad.
00:55:14We all found out about him.
00:55:18Oh.
00:55:20Right.
00:55:21Um, uh...
00:55:22Yeah, I'll be on the next flight.
00:55:24I...
00:55:24Hi.
00:55:31Hi.
00:55:32Hi.
00:55:32Everything okay?
00:55:33I've got a problem with work, and I really have to...
00:55:37Oh, uh...
00:55:38Yeah, no problem.
00:55:39We can pick this up tomorrow.
00:55:41This might take a week or so.
00:55:44Uh, that's...
00:55:45It's...
00:55:46It's Christmas.
00:55:50I'm sorry.
00:55:51I'll let you know as soon as I'm back.
00:55:55Oh, you forgot your coat.
00:55:58Oh.
00:56:00Sorry to thank you.
00:56:01I'm...
00:56:02I gotta go.
00:56:03Yeah.
00:56:03Yeah.
00:56:03Inspector 036.
00:56:22Inspector 036.
00:56:23Who are you?
00:56:25Look, I won't tell you what to do, but...
00:56:42You should fire them all immediately.
00:56:44They need to know that there are consequences for abusing their brakes.
00:56:49There's this old Chinese proverb about a lion and a table.
00:56:53I'm not gonna bore you with all the details.
00:56:54But you do not want to be the table.
00:56:58Just do what I do and sweeten them up first before you...
00:57:02All right, Grandma.
00:57:06Gotta go.
00:57:07Love ya.
00:57:08Well, if it isn't my favorite inspector, can I offer you some sweets?
00:57:16I'm okay, thank you.
00:57:19Well, I guess it's straight to business, then.
00:57:23I'm assuming you, uh, know why I called you in.
00:57:27Yesterday morning, I received a video.
00:57:30I will not reveal the source.
00:57:33But it is someone who I...
00:57:35Deem extremely trustworthy and...
00:57:38Extremely handsome.
00:57:40I chip off you, old block, if you will.
00:57:42Anyhow, you crossed the line, Isabel.
00:57:47I don't need to tell a inspector as decorated as yourself about the dangers of fraternizing with the subject's father.
00:57:54Sir, if I may, Article 1, Section 1, Rule 4...
00:57:57You and I both know that rule was never intended for picking out a Christmas tree together.
00:58:02So, effective immediately, you were out of the case.
00:58:04Charlie's characterization will be finalized as naughty.
00:58:07You are to cease all contact with the girl and her father.
00:58:11I have new information.
00:58:12Sir, Charlie isn't naughty.
00:58:14Now, can we please...
00:58:15...move on to something more pleasant?
00:58:19Yeah.
00:58:19Did I ever tell you the story of why I started this company?
00:58:24Yes.
00:58:26I did?
00:58:27Yes, you have.
00:58:29Huh.
00:58:31Well, then this next chapter will make a lot more sense.
00:58:38Ta-da!
00:58:39This is our future, Isabel.
00:58:41The next evolutionary step.
00:58:44A naughty or nice assessment.
00:58:46One that eliminates all human error.
00:58:47And embraces scientific certainty.
00:58:50What is this?
00:58:52I'm glad you asked.
00:58:53We have deployed 30 years of data from all the children in the world to build a super algorithm.
00:59:00Strong enough to determine who's been naughty and who's been nice with 99.9% accuracy.
00:59:0599.9%?
00:59:07That's basically 100%.
00:59:09Yeah, with the difference of 2 million kids.
00:59:11The point is, this new formula will finally bring certainty to the naughty or nice list.
00:59:20Without the need for inspectors or number crunchers or any human beings at all.
00:59:24But that's the heart and soul of this company.
00:59:28Now you understand why this promotion is so important.
00:59:30I'll be making my announcement after Christmas.
00:59:36You can't...
00:59:37You can't do this.
00:59:39It's wrong.
00:59:40All of it.
00:59:41What has gotten into you?
00:59:43I won't stand by while you turn this list into some sort of faceless math equation.
00:59:48I admit I crossed a personal line with Charlie.
00:59:50And I did it knowingly.
00:59:55But because she needed me.
00:59:57And the truth is...
00:59:59The truth is I needed her.
01:00:03She isn't naughty, sir.
01:00:06The things you consider naughty are acts of love, which I don't think you or this algorithm could possibly understand.
01:00:12And I only learned that because I got to know her.
01:00:15The answer isn't to make our evaluations less human.
01:00:20It's...
01:00:21It's for us to become more human.
01:00:26Excuse me?
01:00:27Hmm.
01:00:31I won't promise that I will stay away from Charlie.
01:00:39And in fact, I, um...
01:00:42I quit.
01:00:45All right, boss.
01:00:54What do you think?
01:00:56Still not straight.
01:01:01Okay.
01:01:02How about now?
01:01:04Perfect.
01:01:13Okay.
01:01:13Okay.
01:01:15Want to do the honors?
01:01:17Should we call the fire department first?
01:01:20Okay.
01:01:21Let's do it together.
01:01:30So pretty, right?
01:01:33I've always loved this tradition.
01:01:35Me too.
01:01:37Except when I started the fire.
01:01:38That was fun, too.
01:01:40I got ice cream.
01:01:41What?
01:01:42You got ice cream?
01:01:43Yeah.
01:01:44Mom would always take me for ice cream when she was mad at you.
01:01:47Three scoops.
01:01:48You got three scoops?
01:01:49Mm-hmm.
01:01:49Mm-hmm.
01:01:50I remember last year when I was really scared that Santa wasn't going to come because I was
01:02:01bad.
01:02:02And then on Christmas morning, so many presents from Santa.
01:02:07Yeah?
01:02:08What made you think of that?
01:02:11I don't know.
01:02:13It was different from all the other years.
01:02:18Santa's handwriting changed, and I can't figure out why.
01:02:22Maybe some years he has his elves do it.
01:02:36That makes sense.
01:02:43Is Isabel coming to the opening?
01:02:46Oh, no, honey.
01:02:48I, I, she's just, she's so busy with the power company.
01:02:55I don't, I don't think we're going to see much of her anymore.
01:02:59You know she doesn't really work for the power company, right, Dad?
01:03:03Wait.
01:03:06What do you know?
01:03:18Hey, kid, that's my hat.
01:03:28I got it.
01:03:35Thank you, you're a good boy.
01:03:44Yes!
01:03:48Okay, that just felt intentionally deceptive.
01:03:51Oh, boy, you are defined.
01:03:57Heidi?
01:03:58What, what are you doing here?
01:04:01Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
01:04:02Discretion, you know?
01:04:04Could have just worn glasses.
01:04:10It's been a week.
01:04:11Wanted to check in, make sure you weren't feeling sorry for yourself.
01:04:14I was just so sure this was my calling, you know?
01:04:20And now?
01:04:21Now I wonder if I didn't just spend my entire life making things worse.
01:04:25I know I did for Jason and Charlie.
01:04:29Sounds like an identity crisis.
01:04:32Yeah.
01:04:33Look, you can ignore my advice, but no one has ever seen you happier than when you were
01:04:44with Jason.
01:04:46Wait, what?
01:04:47Oh, the office is obsessed with the Jason tapes.
01:04:50And when he saves you from that Christmas tree, oh!
01:04:53Okay, okay, okay, okay.
01:04:55Okay, so now that your job isn't the problem, what are you still doing here?
01:05:01Heidi, it's too late for all that.
01:05:03I destroyed the trust with Jason and Charlie.
01:05:06Charlie needs you.
01:05:07I don't even know where to start with that.
01:05:11Real life, there are no rules.
01:05:14You get to follow your heart.
01:05:17I'm sure you still remember how to do that.
01:05:22Now, this is the part where you realize you have six hours to get to Jason's restaurant
01:05:27opening.
01:05:28Wait, six hours?
01:05:29This is fun.
01:05:31How do you even know about that?
01:05:32Oh, Isabel, please.
01:05:33I'm your assistant.
01:05:34It's my job to know everything about you.
01:05:37Plus, I handle your mail.
01:05:39And what about you?
01:05:40What are you going to do?
01:05:41They offer me Giuseppe's desk, but I don't know.
01:05:43I think I prefer to live in a world that assumes everyone's nice.
01:05:48You know?
01:05:52Thanks for being my friend.
01:05:53You really should get going.
01:06:01Like, right now.
01:06:02Okay.
01:06:03Now.
01:06:03Come on.
01:06:07Good boy.
01:06:08Jimbo, I got another pizza person.
01:06:20Amazing.
01:06:22In you go.
01:06:24Well, Jimbo.
01:06:25What do you think?
01:06:28Uh, not much with words, but if I had to pick one, I'd say, thank you.
01:06:38I'm just glad I can make things right.
01:06:41Sure, Dad.
01:06:43Dad, quick.
01:06:44A customer's complaining that the ice cubes are too thin.
01:06:47What?
01:06:48They're the perfect ratio.
01:06:58Don't mess this up.
01:07:07So I hear you have an issue with my ice?
01:07:09I think we've been parent-trapped.
01:07:18We'll have time for questions later, but first, appetizers?
01:07:21Sure.
01:07:22What do you have?
01:07:22Well, my personal favorite would be the ice cream pizza.
01:07:26It's technically a dessert, but I know the chef.
01:07:28Yeah, it's good.
01:07:30Well, then, that's what we'll do.
01:07:32Okay.
01:07:33Jimbo!
01:07:33That's one sugar frisbee for table 18.
01:07:35Coming right up.
01:07:37Not surprised she's running the place.
01:07:40Oh, she's been in charge the whole time.
01:07:43I'm really glad you're here.
01:07:46I came to apologize.
01:07:48I know I have a lot to explain.
01:07:50Actually, Charlie took care of that.
01:07:54Oh.
01:07:57And as a matter of fact, I have something I need to tell you.
01:08:04After everything with her mom,
01:08:11Charlie was acting out.
01:08:13You know, it was just, it was, it was all so much, you know.
01:08:22Anyway, that Christmas morning, I, um, I couldn't sleep,
01:08:27so I went downstairs early, and I couldn't believe it.
01:08:33Underneath the tree, there was a lump of coal.
01:08:36I didn't know what to do, so I, uh, I repurposed gifts,
01:08:45hoping she wouldn't realize that Santa thought that she was naughty.
01:08:52Oh, Jason.
01:08:53She's a good kid, Isabel.
01:08:59I know.
01:09:01Of course I know.
01:09:05Nothing can prepare you for growing up without a mom.
01:09:08It's, it's lonely, and it's messy.
01:09:12And they don't have any way to account for that.
01:09:15They?
01:09:15The company that makes the list, the whole formula, it's just broken, and
01:09:21Charlie's gonna land on the naughty list again.
01:09:26Oh.
01:09:29All this time, I thought I was helping
01:09:31by watching these moments that would otherwise slip through the cracks,
01:09:36but these kids didn't need observing.
01:09:40They needed understanding.
01:09:41I thought I was making a difference.
01:09:45You are making a difference.
01:09:53Well, I'm definitely not anymore, because I quit.
01:10:00I see we're making progress.
01:10:03Your appetizer?
01:10:05Oh, yum.
01:10:07Wow, that looks great.
01:10:08It's so yummy.
01:10:10Questions?
01:10:11I do have one.
01:10:13Was Heidi in on this?
01:10:14You're not the only one that can talk to the eyes of the world.
01:10:20Very impressive.
01:10:21Well, what are you gonna do now?
01:10:23You know what?
01:10:25I think maybe it's time I take this into my own hands.
01:10:27If they're not gonna fix the naughty list,
01:10:30then I'm gonna take this thing straight to the top.
01:10:32The top?
01:10:33Do you mean?
01:10:36The North Pole?
01:10:38Yes.
01:10:39Although Santa doesn't always work out at the North Pole.
01:10:42I think there's an address on my exit letter.
01:10:45Here is headquarters.
01:10:46Let's see, let's see.
01:10:47Yes, he's located in Delaware.
01:10:50Delaware?
01:10:51What's he doing there?
01:10:52I don't know, but I'm gonna find out.
01:10:54If I leave right now, I think I can make it before Christmas.
01:10:56We can't let you do that.
01:10:59We do.
01:11:00At least not by yourself.
01:11:04All right, let's go.
01:11:08Wait, wait, wait.
01:11:09You check.
01:11:091, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 1.
01:11:22Oh my god.
01:11:29Wow.
01:11:34Wow.
01:11:34Wow.
01:11:39Hi, we are here to see Mr. Kringle.
01:11:47Do you have an appointment?
01:11:48Yeah, it's more of a spur-of-the-moment adrenaline charge kind of deal.
01:11:51Yeah.
01:11:53Name, please.
01:11:54Isabel Haynes.
01:12:03Yeah, there's an Isabel Haynes here.
01:12:08No, okay.
01:12:09Go on up.
01:12:16Top of the stairs to the right.
01:12:18You can't miss it.
01:12:20Is Jesse Don?
01:12:21Yeah, I spot him.
01:12:22I can't believe we're going to meet Santa.
01:12:24What's he like?
01:12:24I don't know.
01:12:24I've never met him.
01:12:25I bet he shimmers like a hologram.
01:12:27I bet you he flies.
01:12:28It's not just a sleigh.
01:12:29Uh, excuse me?
01:12:54You're not...
01:13:00Santa?
01:13:01No.
01:13:03Well, maybe someday.
01:13:05No.
01:13:06I don't have the mind for it.
01:13:08You know?
01:13:09I'm Doug.
01:13:10I'm his secretary.
01:13:12Yeah, I gather up all the wishes, you know, and then, you know, make sure they get to the big go.
01:13:17Oh, it's you.
01:13:20Relax.
01:13:21I'm not here to collect.
01:13:23I like to think I've grown up a lot since then.
01:13:27Hmm.
01:13:27We're here to see Santa, Doug.
01:13:29Oh, of course.
01:13:30Yeah.
01:13:31You're in luck.
01:13:32But you better hurry, because he's about to leave to start delivering.
01:13:35Right this way.
01:13:52Well, hello, Isabel.
01:13:56You know me?
01:13:57Ho, ho, ho, ho.
01:13:59Of course I do.
01:14:01Santa?
01:14:03Well, you can call me Chris.
01:14:05Or, uh, Santa's fine.
01:14:08Coco?
01:14:17So, uh, what did you think?
01:14:19I'd be, uh, glimmering like a hologram.
01:14:22Yeah, kinda.
01:14:23I cannot tell you my delight to hear that Isabel Haynes just so happened to be paying me a visit.
01:14:34Why is that?
01:14:35Well, you might say I've been expecting you.
01:14:38Are these my wishes I had left as a child?
01:14:54The ones that came true.
01:14:58I wish that she didn't have to eat lunch alone.
01:15:07Laney, December 23rd, 1995.
01:15:14I wish he didn't always have to be so brave.
01:15:17Marcus, June, May 22nd, 2003.
01:15:20I wish I could play you as a child.
01:15:26I wish I could play you as a child, yeah.
01:15:33What?
01:15:34Never stop believing, Isabel.
01:15:46Thank you, Santa.
01:15:51Now, if you excuse me, I really do need to be going.
01:15:56That first time zone is a doozy.
01:15:59Santa, we actually came to talk to you.
01:16:01Oh, of course.
01:16:02I'm an inspector for the Naughty or Nice group, or at least I was until last week, when I discovered a problem.
01:16:08Problem?
01:16:09Yes, I was assigned to Charlie here, and our algorithm determined her to be naughty, but I can assure you, Santa, she's not.
01:16:16The formula is wrong.
01:16:18No, but the formula is the problem.
01:16:20See, you've outsourced the list to a company that's completely lost sight of the meaning.
01:16:26Well, let's settle this right now, shall we?
01:16:32Mr. Kringle, I'm right in the middle of my year-end review.
01:16:36Rudolph, I hate to interrupt.
01:16:38I was wondering if I could grab you for a minute.
01:16:40Well, actually, it is year-end, and I am super busy.
01:16:43I didn't know he could do that.
01:16:54I didn't know he could do that.
01:16:56I love doing that.
01:16:57Um, thank you for your time.
01:17:00I was just speaking with your former associate, who's concerned that your flawed formula has found Charlie here to be naughty.
01:17:08Flawed?
01:17:08There's nothing wrong with the formula.
01:17:13And if the little girl wants to land on the nice list, I suggest she try being nice.
01:17:19Take it from me, little girl.
01:17:22Cole builds counter.
01:17:24You didn't mean that.
01:17:26Excuse me?
01:17:28May I?
01:17:29Oh, uh, please.
01:17:29You don't think Cole's good.
01:17:35You just did a magic trick.
01:17:37What are you talking about, Charlie?
01:17:41Well, when I want to hide a trick, all I gotta do is make you look in the wrong direction.
01:17:48That way, I distract you from the trick.
01:17:52It's misdirection.
01:17:57You hate Cole.
01:17:58I could see it in your face.
01:17:59I'm on keto.
01:18:03And this is absurd.
01:18:04Are you going to believe me or this naughty little girl?
01:18:06Well, I'm beginning to wonder that myself.
01:18:09Santa, if I may, I have observed kids in all corners of the world.
01:18:14Kids who fight and scream.
01:18:15Kids who break rules.
01:18:16Kids who throw tantrums.
01:18:18Our mistake was never the formula.
01:18:20Our mistake was assuming that any child could be naughty in the first place.
01:18:25Any child?
01:18:26Adults make the rules.
01:18:27Adults label right and wrong, good and bad.
01:18:29Naughty or nice.
01:18:31Kids don't operate that way.
01:18:32It's not always that simple.
01:18:33You know, they're just finding their way through the world.
01:18:36And it, it, well, the world can be a really confusing place sometimes.
01:18:41We need to, to guide them, not judge them.
01:18:48Santa, I'm afraid by labeling kids naughty, we're not incentivizing them to be nice.
01:18:53Instead, we're creating mean adults.
01:18:54I've heard enough.
01:18:58Rudolph, I think it's time we went in a different direction.
01:19:03Sir, don't be hasty.
01:19:05Firstly, I...
01:19:06Merry Christmas.
01:19:07Yay!
01:19:07Well, it looks like we've outgrown the naughty list.
01:19:17Of course, that'll mean a few extra stops.
01:19:19But moving forward, I could certainly use some help running the new operation.
01:19:24What do you say?
01:19:25I, I feel like I need to discuss this with them.
01:19:28Are you kidding?
01:19:29Okay, you got to take it.
01:19:30I'm taking it.
01:19:30Yes.
01:19:30I'm taking it.
01:19:31I'm taking it.
01:19:31Not to worry.
01:19:32Miss Kringle is a strong supporter of working remotely.
01:19:36How do you think we ended up in Delaware?
01:19:41Isabel, thank you so much.
01:19:45Now, I really need to be going.
01:19:50I need to be over the Pacific Ocean in 15 minutes.
01:19:55Merry Christmas.
01:19:57Merry Christmas, Santa.
01:19:59Merry Christmas, Santa.
01:20:01Merry Christmas, Santa.
01:20:03Hmm?
01:20:10I knew it.
01:20:12I told you he could fly.
01:20:13Fly?
01:20:14He was definitely a hologram.
01:20:16Did you see the shimmering?
01:20:17Yes.
01:20:29That night, we changed Christmas forever.
01:20:33The supposedly naughty kids, like Teddy and Eddie, got their Christmas gifts after all.
01:20:38Never again would a child receive coal in their stocking.
01:20:44And in the spirit of lists, we decided to create a brand new one, the Makeup List, to bring overdue gifts to the grown-ups that had never received them.
01:20:53For my next holiday magic trick, be prepared to be wowed.
01:20:59Seed.
01:21:00Abracadabra?
01:21:03Abracadabra!
01:21:03I can't wait to make him disappear.
01:21:32Well, make sure he comes back.
01:21:37So, I'm guessing with everything that's happened, this is going to be your last Christmas off for a while.
01:21:44You know what?
01:21:45It's actually my first.
01:21:46Well then, what do you want to do?
01:21:47Glad you asked.
01:21:50I made a list.
01:21:51Oh yeah, you sure did.
01:21:53Okay, so I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to go caroling, I want to have a very big Christmas dinner.
01:21:58Wait, you're missing something here.
01:22:00Huh.
01:22:02Interesting.
01:22:02We don't need mistletoe for that.
01:22:17As for me, well, I guess you could say I finally figured out the true meaning of the whole thing.
01:22:35What do you want to do?
01:22:36I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire, I want to drink Eichnacht by the fire.
