00:00:00It's your latest travel update from us here at the station.
00:00:02It's the 1st of December, so Christmas has officially started.
00:00:06And this is a classic.
00:00:09Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
00:00:13Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
00:00:17Snowing and blowing, I push the fire
00:00:20Oh! Morning, Helen.
00:00:23Christmas begins.
00:00:25It is deep.
00:00:27There you go.
00:00:29Jingle bell time and jingle bell time
00:00:33Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
00:00:37In the frosty air
00:00:40What a bright time
00:00:42Well, I could do with a nice cup of tea after that.
00:00:45I've never seen the town centre so busy.
00:00:49Oh, I'm sorry, Helen. I didn't know there was a team meeting.
00:00:54Oh, you're fine, Marjorie. I was just making a small announcement.
00:00:58You'll never believe it.
00:00:59She's only taking us away for the office Christmas party.
00:01:01It's been a tough old year.
00:01:03And I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me get through it.
00:01:07Guess what? We're only going to the ruddy Caribbean.
00:01:10Oh, my goodness gracious me.
00:01:13Oh, although it does mean missing the away game of Colchester.
00:01:16What's that matter?
00:01:17It's the Caribbean.
00:01:19What a way to celebrate...
00:01:20And you've properly budgeted for it, Mum?
00:01:22Yes, Neil. It's all accounted for.
00:01:24Quite sure?
00:01:25You know, I've always wanted to visit that part of the world.
00:01:30Oh, um...
00:01:31Not you, Marjorie, love. It's senior staff only. I am so sorry. I should have said.
00:01:39Oh, of course. I'm sorry, Helen. Silly old me.
00:01:44Duh.
00:01:45Oh, I-I probably should get that.
00:01:52We are so going bikini shopping after work tonight.
00:01:56Ooh, might treat yourself to some speed, or was...?
00:01:59Duckdale's branded merchandise. Marjorie speaking.

00:03:11Happy Christmas.
00:03:25Hi, Marjorie. I just want to let you know that there's a Commissioner Patterson arriving.
00:03:45It's a serious situation over here. Give him access to anything he needs. I've told the police here that we're going to cooperate fully.
00:03:56Will do, Helen. Oh, I hear him now. Um, we'll speak later.
00:04:00Okay.
00:04:02Ah, you must be the policeman from the Caribbean. Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:04:08Selwyn Patterson.
00:04:10So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:04:13The police will call to your colleagues' holiday villa, where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found, shot dead, murdered.
00:04:43Morning, Miss Bourdais.
00:05:08Morning, Seb. It's a final rehearsal for the Nativity this evening.
00:05:13I wish you all the best, Anne. Good luck to you, little king people.
00:05:17Yes, I. Yes. Yes.
00:05:20Allez, let's go.
00:05:21Good morning, Sarge.
00:05:31Morning, Seb. Got a card from Darlene.
00:05:34Oh.
00:05:35Looks like she won't make it back for Christmas.
00:05:38Her auntie's still sick, so she's staying on Montserrat.
00:05:41Nothing in the post for the inspector, you know, from Antica.
00:05:46His brother, you mean?
00:05:48It's been three months.
00:05:50I guess it's like a lot, you know?
00:05:52I mean, in getting a letter from a brother you never knew you had.
00:05:57It might take some time.
00:05:58I just feel sorry for him.
00:06:00He keeps saying he's fine about it, but I don't think he is.
00:06:06Where is D.I. Wilson?
00:06:08Rehearsing.
00:06:09Oh, yes. Oh, I am so jealous.
00:06:12He must be hyped up to wear that costume, huh?
00:06:13I bet he is.
00:06:17I'm really not happy about this.
00:06:19Why not, Mervyn?
00:06:20Because I look like a ninny.
00:06:22No, you don't.
00:06:24You look very...
00:06:27authentic.
00:06:28I just don't think the boots are helping.
00:06:34Look, with all due respect, Miss Baudet,
00:06:36I just think it'd be better off finding somebody else for this.
00:06:40You know, somebody less...
00:06:42me.
00:06:42Mervyn, it has always been the commissioner
00:06:45who carries out this task for me.
00:06:48With him gone.
00:06:49Inspector!
00:06:51Great.
00:06:52Yes, sir.
00:06:53You look cool, man.
00:06:54Not another word.
00:06:55That's welcome.
00:06:57Could we have a chat, sir?
00:07:04We have a murder to attend.
00:07:07For real?
00:07:10Well, that's up, then.
00:07:11I've got word to do.
00:07:13Conversation over.
00:07:14Conversation paused.
00:07:15Sorry, Catherine.
00:07:16Come on, let's go.
00:07:19Um, inspector.
00:07:22You think maybe you should change first?
00:07:24Victim's name is Darion St. Jules.
00:07:41He's a local fisherman, lives half a mile up the coast.
00:07:56Right.
00:07:57The guests staying here are from the UK.
00:08:00They all say they haven't a clue who he is or what he was doing here.
00:08:05But clearly, someone must have shot him and left him there.
00:08:08Right.
00:08:11No sign of the gun, but paramedics are saying with the bullet still lodged in the victim's
00:08:15shoulder, cause of death was possibly from internal bleeding.
00:08:20Right.
00:08:21And what about you, inspector?
00:08:23Anything of interest?
00:08:26Well, he certainly liked his aftershave.
00:08:29Have a sniff.
00:08:29I guess that's pretty strong.
00:08:37I don't know if it's cause of his work.
00:08:39You know, slapped on the old cologne to cover the smell of fish.
00:08:42I know a big man in Tootin did the same thing.
00:08:44And that's what bothers you the most?
00:08:46The fact that the victim used a bit too much aftershave?
00:08:49Actually, what's bothering me the most is what's written on the palm of his left hand.
00:08:57Blitzen.
00:08:58Like the reindeer.
00:09:00It's the only one I can think of.
00:09:03Dasher, dancer, prancer, vixen, comic, cupid, donna, blitzen.
00:09:08And Rudolph.
00:09:10Thank you, Officer Rose.
00:09:14The ink seems fresh.
00:09:15Which means he wrote it in the last 12 hours or so.
00:09:20And then not long after, he was shot.
00:09:22When it is Christmas, sir, it could just be a coincidence.
00:09:32We have no idea who this guy is or what he's doing in our villa.
00:09:35So how can we know why he wrote the name of one of Sansa's reindeer on his hand?
00:09:38I don't know.
00:09:39I'm just asking the question.
00:09:40Not a problem, is it?
00:09:43No.
00:09:44No, of course not.
00:09:45Let's start with you telling me what you're doing here on St. Marie.
00:09:49Well, we flew here for our office Christmas party.
00:09:52It wasn't cheap.
00:09:53We were having the time of our lives.
00:10:00Lights a beat.
00:10:01Lights a beat.
00:10:03No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:10:05No!
00:10:06Oh, my God.
00:10:07Everyone get in.
00:10:08Maybe talk us through the events of last night.
00:10:17Yeah, what happened exactly?
00:10:19We said we'd take it easy for our last night.
00:10:21Then we got back here and carried on drinking.
00:10:35Yeah, looks like quite a party you had.
00:10:37Yeah, damn right it was.
00:10:38Sorry, that's not appropriate.
00:10:43The rum out here, it's stronger than we're used to.
00:10:46Oh, heavens above.
00:10:50One more straight away and no one is allowed to do.
00:10:53Come on, it's our last night.
00:10:56And what time did the party end?
00:10:58I haven't got a clue, mate, to be honest.
00:11:00Yeah, it's all a little bit hazy.
00:11:02I really don't remember very much.
00:11:04You lot are lightweights, man.
00:11:06I remember everything.
00:11:10Helen, you and me put Neil to bed about midnight.
00:11:13I'm sure I wasn't that bad.
00:11:14Oh, you so were.
00:11:17Oh, he's always had a low tolerance.
00:11:19Mum?
00:11:20Sorry, love.
00:11:22Can we just...
00:11:24Yeah, Helen, you went to bed as well.
00:11:28Me and you kept on it till about half three.
00:11:33Gav, you were so cute.
00:11:34You were dead to the world by then.
00:11:36So, uh, I left you asleep in the hammock.
00:11:40And then what?
00:11:44Oh, and then, um, the taxi for the airport woke me up.
00:11:49Everyone!
00:11:50Wake up!
00:11:52Wake up!
00:11:54That's when I saw him.
00:11:56I thought he was asleep at first.
00:11:58But when I got closer, I saw the blood.
00:12:00Someone call an ambulance!
00:12:02Now!
00:12:05You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
00:12:08You didn't hear the gunshot?
00:12:10Well, yeah, yeah, you'd have thought.
00:12:11But, well, it's like Helen said, you know, the room out here, it's, uh...
00:12:14Stronger than you used to.
00:12:15Inspector!
00:12:16Inspector!
00:12:17Inspector!
00:12:19That's something you should see.
00:12:23This is the only security camera footage from the villa.
00:12:26Footage is from this morning, outside the front door.
00:12:29The victim arrives at 5.32am, heads inside.
00:12:33The door was unlocked, so he let himself in.
00:12:35After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
00:12:38So, the only way in or out is from the front.
00:12:41And the drop at the back is too steep for access.
00:12:45So, it's got to be one of these four who shot Darren and St. Jules.
00:12:49Which means the gun that they used must still be here.
00:12:52But they're all saying they've never met him before.
00:12:54So, why would one of them kill a total stranger?
00:12:58Hello, can I help you?
00:13:13Have you come to check-in?
00:13:14The name's Helen Dugdale.
00:13:16Of course, one moment, please.
00:13:19Can't believe they're not letting us fly home.
00:13:22This police overreach is what it is.
00:13:25So much for doing something different.
00:13:28Should have just gone to the Red Lion like last year.
00:13:31None of this would have happened.
00:13:34Girl, do you think there's something Helen's not telling us?
00:13:39She's been on edge ever since the police arrived.
00:13:50So, why did Darien go to that villa at 5.30 in the morning?
00:13:54Let's see what we find at his house.
00:13:58How are you getting on, sir?
00:14:03Well, I haven't found anything that connects a victim to the suspects.
00:14:07But I have found this.
00:14:09The victim's aftershave.
00:14:10Really?
00:14:11This again?
00:14:11It's different to the one he was wearing at the crime scene.
00:14:14Here, have a sniff.
00:14:15I haven't found any others here.
00:14:20And there certainly wasn't one on his person.
00:14:22So why did he smell different to the brand of aftershave that he owns?
00:14:25So, I searched the suspects, the villa, and the surrounding areas.
00:14:46And there was no gun.
00:14:48No, it has to be there.
00:14:49No one left the villa after the victim was shot, so the weapon has to be there somewhere.
00:14:53Yeah, no, I totally get the logic, Inspector.
00:14:55But you're staying there?
00:14:57For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
00:14:59But that doesn't make any sense.
00:15:00So, sorry.
00:15:01Excuse me.
00:15:02Hello?
00:15:03Yes!
00:15:03Well, this is a strange one.
00:15:06We've got four people suspected of shooting a man they don't know with a gun they don't have.
00:15:11Let's start working through the victim's laptop, see what's on there.
00:15:13We need to find that gun.
00:15:17What?
00:15:18Actually, sir, it's the Nativity Service, if you'd forgotten.
00:15:22Are you serious?
00:15:23And we promised Catherine we'd make sure you get there.
00:15:27Look, we've got a murder case to solve, in case you hadn't noticed.
00:15:30And I haven't got time for play-acting with a bunch of kids at some school nativity.
00:15:35Then you better find the time, Inspector.
00:15:40Why is she...?
00:15:42Good evening to you, Inspector.
00:15:44Officer Curtis was a pleasant surprise.
00:15:47My niece is performing in the Nativity tonight.
00:15:51And word has got back to me that they might not have a narrator.
00:15:55Because the man who is supposed to be doing it is being a grumpy goose about the whole thing.
00:16:00Grumpy...
00:16:01Now, listen...
00:16:01No, you listen to me.
00:16:03You are doing it.
00:16:05End of.
00:16:06So get your backside down to that church and man up.
00:16:09You know what?
00:16:26I never did like this sort of thing.
00:16:28The Nativity, the carol services.
00:16:31Right.
00:16:32Is there anything about Christmas you do like, sir?
00:16:35No, not really.
00:16:36Oh, hang on.
00:16:37Yeah.
00:16:37Um, The Great Escape.
00:16:39The what?
00:16:40The Great Escape.
00:16:42The movie.
00:16:43It was on telly every Christmas.
00:16:45You know, with the motorcycle stuff.
00:16:47And the cooler.
00:16:48The dirt down the trousers.
00:16:52No, I give up.
00:16:53Me too.
00:16:54Nothing we're waiting.
00:16:55Ready when you are.
00:16:56Right.
00:17:01Right.
00:17:03Um, here we go then.
00:17:06I guess.
00:17:26You okay?
00:17:31Okay then.
00:17:36A long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary.
00:17:43She was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.
00:17:46I understand you didn't want to wear a costume, but did you really have to do it in the heart?
00:17:52And then one day, an angel called Gabriel came to Mary and said to her.
00:18:11Sorry, it was mine.
00:18:14I knew it was going to be his.
00:18:20Sir.
00:18:22Sir.
00:18:24It's someone calling from Antigua.
00:18:28It could be-
00:18:28Your brother.
00:18:32Listen, sorry everyone.
00:18:34I need to take this, yeah?
00:18:41Well, I think one of us shoot her.
00:18:44Don't worry, Miss Baudet.
00:18:46Officer Sebastian Rose to the rescue.
00:18:49Yes, Milika King people.
00:18:51Far gone.
00:18:52Yes.
00:18:53Woo.
00:18:56So, a long, long time ago in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman, very nice woman.
00:19:03Her name was Mary.
00:19:04She was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.
00:19:07Mr. Wilson, it's Syree's at Cariba Phone Network.
00:19:20I just noticed your contracts coming up in the new year, and I thought we could have a chat about upgrading your phone.
00:19:30Mr. Wilson, are you still there?
00:19:31Yeah, I'm here.
00:19:32Mr. Wilson, are you still there?
00:19:33Yeah, I'm here.
00:19:34Um, no, no upgrade, thanks.
00:19:35Are you sure about that?
00:19:37Because, um, it's tough.
00:19:39Anything else?
00:19:40That's very nice.
00:19:40Yeah, please.
00:19:41Over here.
00:19:43Yes, sir.
00:19:44The first Noel the angels did sing, was to certain born shepherds in fields as they lay.
00:20:11In fields as they lay, deep in place.
00:20:41Hey sir, you didn't come back. Just wanted to check how you're doing.
00:20:53Yeah, it wasn't Solomon on the phone. Anyway, I've been thinking. We really don't know anything about these people.
00:21:01You know, their lives in the UK. I was thinking we could use someone to do a bit of digging into our suspects back in their hometown.
00:21:10Right. You want me to get in touch with the Swindon Police?
00:21:12No, no, no. I've already done that. They're flat out till New Year.
00:21:15But then I remembered we do have someone in the UK who maybe could give us a hand.
00:21:28Ah! You must be the policeman from the Caribbean. Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:21:33Selwyn Patterson. I'm no longer a commissioner. I'm retired now.
00:21:38Right. Okay. So now you're just...
00:21:42Helping out. Somewhat reluctantly, if I'm honest with you.
00:21:46So, um, what has actually happened out there?
00:21:50The police were called to your colleague's Holiday Villa, where, I'm sorry to see, a man was found. Shot dead. Murdered.
00:21:59I'm keen to get on with things and get out of here as quickly as I can.
00:22:03Rightio. Well, I'll give you the guided tour.
00:22:07Uh, welcome to Dugdale's branded merchandise.
00:22:11Uh, so, uh, that desk over there is Helen. She's the managing director.
00:22:17Uh, this desk belongs to our graphic designer, Gavin.
00:22:21Uh, accounts manager, Neil. And Karen, head of sales.
00:22:25And this one?
00:22:27Oh, oh, she's not here anymore. She left a couple of months ago.
00:22:31Who?
00:22:32Uh, Ashley. Ashley Sims, her name was.
00:22:35It was all somewhat clandestine, if you ask me, Mr. Patterson.
00:22:43She did what they call a midnight flit. Never came back.
00:22:48Are you sure you don't want a cup of tea? I'm going to make myself one.
00:22:52This drawer is locked.
00:22:54Is locked.
00:22:55Oh, yes. It's been like that since Ashley left. She has the only key.
00:22:59I've been meaning to sort it.
00:23:01Yeah, I'm sorry for that.
00:23:02No, I'm sorry, Richard.
00:23:03I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
00:23:04No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Richard.
00:23:05I'm sorry.
00:23:06I'm sorry. I'm sorry for this.
00:23:07Commissioner, you do know what time it is over here, right?
00:23:24Half past three in the morning.
00:23:27But as I've abandoned a good friend's wedding to travel to Swindon.
00:23:30And help you out.
00:23:31Okay, fair do's.
00:23:33How can I help?
00:23:33The bullet drew recovered from your victim.
00:23:35Have you had the ballistics report back on it yet?
00:23:39Yeah, it was a .45 calibre.
00:23:40Most likely fired from a pistol.
00:23:42And did you find the weapon?
00:23:44No.
00:23:45Why?
00:23:46Because I'm currently looking at a .45 calibre pistol in a desk drawer in Swindon.
00:23:56It can't be the same one.
00:23:59Can it?
00:24:05Good morning, sir.
00:24:18Morning, Inspector.
00:24:20This can't be right.
00:24:21It just can't be.
00:24:22What's going on?
00:24:23Commissioner found a gun locked in the desk drawer of an ex-employee called Ashley Simms in the Dugdale's offices back in the UK.
00:24:30What?
00:24:31Local forensic lab fast-tracked it and they say that is the gun that fired the bullet that killed Darren St. Jules.
00:24:38Look, security footage shows that no one touched that drawer since the shooting.
00:24:42Wait, so how was that gun used to shoot Darren St. Jules on this island if the same gun was locked in a drawer 5,000 miles away?
00:24:50I know, right?
00:24:51It makes no sense.
00:24:55We need to speak to Helen Dugdale.
00:24:56Helen, if you're in there, can you open the door, please?
00:25:11We need to speak with you about Ashley Simms.
00:25:19There's something you need to see.
00:25:23I guess I want to say sorry.
00:25:26I know it's not enough and it won't change how you feel about me, but I do mean it.
00:25:38I don't know why I keep doing this.
00:25:42Blow everything up.
00:25:46But, um, it's why I've come here.
00:25:52To get away.
00:25:56Try and understand why I hurt people the way that I do.
00:26:07She stole from me, from the company.
00:26:09How much?
00:26:10£500,000.
00:26:12Ouch.
00:26:13My husband, Keith.
00:26:16Dugdale's was his company until he passed away at the start of the year from a heart attack.
00:26:21I'm sorry to hear that.
00:26:24That's when I took over the reins.
00:26:26I really wanted to make it work.
00:26:28And it was around that time that we had a position to fill.
00:26:31And you gave the job to Miss Simms?
00:26:33I knew she had a past, that she'd been to prison, but Keith always believed in giving people a second chance and I wanted to honour that.
00:26:41What Miss Simms let you down?
00:26:43Not even a year's passed and I've already lost half a million pounds.
00:26:46Did you report Ashley to the police?
00:26:49I was too embarrassed.
00:26:50So I hired someone to find out where she sent the email from.
00:26:55And that video she recorded, that was sent from this island?
00:26:59Yes.
00:27:01Okay, so what does any of this have to do with Darian St. George?
00:27:05The man I hired discovered that Darian had rented a holiday let to Ashley.
00:27:09That's why I came here, to try and get my money back.
00:27:12I made sure our villa wasn't far from Darian's house so it would be easy to go and visit him.
00:27:16So you were lying when you told her she didn't know Darian?
00:27:19Did you meet with him?
00:27:21Yes.
00:27:22A few days ago.
00:27:23He confirmed that Ashley had rented this little place he has down on the beach.
00:27:28That so?
00:27:29So she was definitely here.
00:27:31She'd arrived a few months ago, at the start of October.
00:27:35He still had all the paperwork, but he said that she'd moved on a few days ago and he didn't know where.
00:27:41So what was Darian doing turning up at your villa in the early hours yesterday?
00:27:46I don't know.
00:27:48I really don't.
00:27:49How much do the others know about this?
00:27:51Nothing.
00:27:51They don't know anything.
00:27:52They think they're on a works do.
00:27:54Not even your son?
00:27:55No.
00:27:55Not even Neil.
00:27:57So then the only person who knew Darian and therefore wanted him killed was you?
00:28:01No.
00:28:02I swear I didn't.
00:28:04I can see how this looks.
00:28:07But I didn't shoot him.
00:28:09I don't...
00:28:10I need to take this.
00:28:17Commissioner, you got something?
00:28:19Inspector, I've searched Ashley Sims' flat and emailed you over some photographs.
00:28:25I'm afraid there is little abuse to your investigation.
00:28:27I think she cleared out her flat before she flew to the Caribbean.
00:28:30Okay.
00:28:32Thanks anyway, sir.
00:28:33Now, if that is everything, I'm going to catch my train and enjoy the rest of my Christmas.
00:28:39Yeah.
00:28:40You have a good one, sir.
00:28:41And you, Inspector.
00:28:42And you.
00:28:43Thank you for your help, Miss Gordes.
00:28:53Oh, I didn't do anything, really.
00:28:56And you're nothing if not efficient.
00:29:00So, what are your plans for Christmas?
00:29:04I'm spending it with my daughter and her partner.
00:29:07They've rented a cottage up in the, um, Yorkshire Dales.
00:29:11Oh, it's lovely up there.
00:29:12So, I'm told, I'd better...
00:29:14I'm flying solo this Christmas.
00:29:17I mean, that's how it's been since Mum passed, just me, myself and I.
00:29:21Sorry.
00:29:23I really...
00:29:23Oh, no, no, no, I rather enjoy it, actually.
00:29:26You know, there's no family arguments.
00:29:28I can eat what I like, watch what I want on the telly.
00:29:31Christmas alone is underrated, I say.
00:29:35Indeed.
00:29:36No, I really don't want to miss my train.
00:29:42Goodbye, Mr. Patterson.
00:29:45Goodbye.
00:29:47And Merry Christmas.
00:29:49And a very Merry Christmas to you.
00:29:51Four passengers on platform one, awaiting the three-fifteen-two-leaves.
00:30:01Please be aware that due to frost on the line, this train is now delayed.
00:30:06Please wait for further announcements.
00:30:08So, immigration confirmed Ashley Sims arrived on the island two months ago.
00:30:31But they have no record of her ever leaving.
00:30:34So, in theory, she's still here.
00:30:37Mm-mm.
00:30:40Okay, Officer Rose.
00:30:41I want you to check the harbours, see if anyone matching Ashley's description was taken to one of the other islands in the last few days.
00:30:46Ashley Harbour, last few days, got you.
00:30:48Check the hotels, holiday rentals, guesthouses on the island.
00:30:51Hotels, rentals, guesthouses, got you.
00:30:53You need to do whatever it takes to find her, do you understand?
00:30:56Cool. Totally getting you right now, Inspector.
00:30:59I guess that means we're working Christmas Day then.
00:31:01Obviously.
00:31:02It's a murder investigation.
00:31:04And we need to find out who did it.
00:31:06Right.
00:31:06Only, that's a lot of work for Seb to do by himself over Christmas.
00:31:11Well, my mother has a whole church thing going on and everybody else is busy, so it's cool.
00:31:16There you go.
00:31:17Sorted.
00:31:20Thanks, Seb.
00:31:21No worries.
00:31:22See you in a bit.
00:31:25I'll let my parents know I won't be flying home this evening.
00:31:29Appreciate it.
00:31:30Ashley Sims aside, we still don't have a scooby how the killer made the gun they shot Darian with disappear from that villa,
00:31:37then reappear in a locked desk drawer back in the UK.
00:31:42And that, Blitzen, what's that about?
00:31:46Unless it has nothing to do with Darian's murder, sir, and it is just a cold.
00:31:51You don't believe in coincidences.
00:31:54I mean, in what circumstance does someone write the name of one of Sansa's reindeer on the palm of their hand?
00:32:03Are you doing all right, sir?
00:32:05After last night?
00:32:07Look, if Solomon doesn't want to get in touch, I'm cool with that.
00:32:11Well...
00:32:11D.S. Thomas, I'd rather we didn't talk about it any more.
00:32:15All right?
00:32:16D.S. Thomas, I'm at Swindon East.
00:32:33And?
00:32:33Your tannoy keeps announcing there is a rail replacement service to Leeds, but it hasn't turned up.
00:32:41Yeah, it got cancelled.
00:32:44I'm sorry?
00:32:45The service replacing the service that got cancelled also got cancelled?
00:32:51Yeah, that's about the sum of it.
00:32:52Uh, no more trains until Boxing Day.
00:32:55So, what do you suggest I do?
00:32:59D'oh, mate.
00:33:00Have a merry one, yeah?
00:33:02See ya.
00:33:06And a Merry Christmas to you too.
00:33:07I'm sorry, mate, but it's Christmas Eve and none of my drivers are going to want to go outside of Swindon.
00:33:22You try to hire a car company?
00:33:24Yes, but nothing is available in the area until the 27th.
00:33:29You have no rooms available at all?
00:33:38We're fully booked.
00:33:40Everywhere will be this time of year.
00:33:42Maybe you could try the Salvation Army?
00:33:51This is Andrina.
00:33:53Leave me a message when you hear the beep.
00:33:56It's me.
00:33:57I'm still in Swindon.
00:33:59There's no transport, no hotels.
00:34:02And there's no one here who seems able to help me.
00:34:07And I don't know what to do.
00:34:15Mr. Patterson.
00:34:18I think you better come with me.
00:34:21How did you know I would still be here?
00:34:28Had the local radio on.
00:34:29Said all trains cancelled.
00:34:32And we've got to look after each other at Christmas, haven't we?
00:34:38Thank you, Miss Dawkins.
00:34:40It must be a three, is it?
00:34:42Yes.
00:34:42After you.
00:34:43Good morning to you all.
00:34:58It's six o'clock on this beautiful Christmas day morning here on San Marie.
00:35:04And there's a surprise guest with me here in the studio.
00:35:07I've got a young officer, Sebastian Rose from the San Marie police talking with me right now.
00:35:12Yes, it is me, Officer Sebastian Rose from the San Marie police station.
00:35:17Merry Christmas, everybody.
00:35:19He and his colleagues want your help looking for a young woman called Ashley Sims.
00:35:23Am I right?
00:35:24That is it.
00:35:25You are totally right, Alphonse.
00:35:27If anybody has heard anything, or seen anything,
00:35:29Well, what I would say, Jacinta, is even if it was just a glimpse,
00:35:36one of your few attorneys woman, they should still get in touch.
00:35:40Oh, Seb.
00:35:40Oh, and also, the people can check out the video I made on our social media page,
00:35:46at SM police.
00:35:47Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:35:50If you see her call, it's from her Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:35:55If you see her call, it's from her Ashley Sims, have you seen her?
00:36:00If you see her call...
00:36:01Commissioner, morning.
00:36:17This is a surprise.
00:36:18Inspector, have you seen that video Officer Rose has put on social media?
00:36:24It's deeply inappropriate.
00:36:27Would you like another sherry, Selwyn?
00:36:29Ah, no.
00:36:34Wow, is that...
00:36:35Is that the receptionist?
00:36:38Marjorie Dolph.
00:36:39I'm spending Christmas Day with her.
00:36:42Well, I'm glad you two hit it off.
00:36:43Good for you, sir.
00:36:44It's not like that, Inspector.
00:36:47I got stock in Swindon.
00:36:48There were no trains to Leeds.
00:36:50Okay.
00:36:50Look, just take that video down.
00:36:53No disrespect, sir, but it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:36:57Just sort it, Inspector.
00:37:01Yeah, I've got his bank statement in front of me.
00:37:11That's great.
00:37:11Could you email it over?
00:37:13I'll do that right away.
00:37:14Cheers.
00:37:14Literally every train.
00:37:27If you've seen her call this number
00:37:29Actually since have you seen us
00:37:31If you've seen her call this number
00:37:34Alright, I'm coming
00:37:39I've got a lead
00:37:44A possible suspect for Darian St. Julesy's murder
00:37:47I need to go and talk with them now
00:37:48Merry Christmas, sir
00:37:50Oh, um, Merry Christmas
00:37:56I'll be right with you
00:37:59Our financial checks show that two days ago
00:38:12You wired £100,000 from this island
00:38:15To your bank account back in England
00:38:17No, he didn't
00:38:19What?
00:38:26You want to tell us where you got that money from?
00:38:29What did you do, Liam?
00:38:30Yes, Neil
00:38:31What did you do?
00:38:33I followed you
00:38:34Why?
00:38:36You were acting so weird
00:38:37A few days ago
00:38:39When you went off by yourself
00:38:41I knew that it had to be about the money
00:38:43That Ashley had taken
00:38:44I'm sorry
00:38:45I couldn't understand why you didn't tell me
00:38:47And I know you were just trying to protect me, Mum
00:38:48I was worried about you
00:38:50I was just trying to help
00:38:52So I waited until the guy, Darian, had left
00:38:58The door was unlocked
00:39:00So I let myself in
00:39:01There wasn't anything I could find
00:39:03Until I found an old biscuit tin
00:39:05It was full of money
00:39:07And what did you think?
00:39:09When you opened it and saw £100,000 in cash inside
00:39:12Well, I still think
00:39:13That it was money that belonged to the company
00:39:15I mean, why else would this local fisherman
00:39:18Have that much money in sterling in his house?
00:39:21And that's why you took it?
00:39:22Because it was money that Ashley had stolen from us
00:39:24From Mum
00:39:25And I don't want to see her lose everything
00:39:29Oh, she'd already lost my dad
00:39:33Sweet
00:39:34All right
00:39:39Okay
00:39:41So, fast forward to the morning you're due to leave the island, yeah?
00:39:46And our victim turns up at 5.30
00:39:49We've been trying to work out why he went there that morning
00:39:53But what if he realised that you stole from him
00:39:56And came to confront you about it?
00:39:58No
00:39:58On my life, I didn't even see him that morning
00:40:02This aftershave, it's yours, right?
00:40:05Ravage Mystique
00:40:06Yeah?
00:40:07Why?
00:40:08This is the exact same aftershave Darian was wearing
00:40:10The morning of the murder
00:40:12Right?
00:40:13You're not suggesting that this is evidence I shot him
00:40:18Why would I kill someone and then spray him with my own aftershave?
00:40:22Achoo!
00:40:26Darian definitely smelt of this when we found him
00:40:28But why?
00:40:32What if
00:40:33There was another smell the killer was trying to hide
00:40:36You know, a bit like a bin man
00:40:38Yeah, but
00:40:40What?
00:40:43Neil's right
00:40:44It's not enough
00:40:45It's not Christmas this is
00:40:47Oh
00:40:48Come here
00:40:49Give your mum a hug
00:40:51Oh, hang on, sorry
00:40:53Oh, no, not now, Marjorie
00:41:00Hi, this is Helen Dugdale's phone
00:41:03Please leave a message after the turn
00:41:04I'll call you back
00:41:05Hello, Helen, it's Marjorie
00:41:08I'm planning to wish you a Merry Christmas
00:41:10We're about to have our lunch
00:41:12I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you
00:41:15Hope everything sorts itself out soon
00:41:18Dinner is served
00:41:28This looks wonderful
00:41:35Thank you
00:41:36Here's to a Merry Christmas
00:41:41Merry Christmas
00:41:45Right then
00:41:50Tuck in
00:41:52I would like to offer you an apology, Miss Dodds
00:41:59Oh, Marjorie, please
00:42:00There's really no need for an apology
00:42:03Oh, there is
00:42:05You've been nothing but gracious and welcoming for the last couple of days
00:42:09While I
00:42:10I've been nothing but, um, rowdy
00:42:14Oh, no, no, I wouldn't go that far
00:42:18Though
00:42:20I did sense you weren't very happy
00:42:24Is it to do with your old job?
00:42:27What makes you ask that?
00:42:29I don't know
00:42:30It's just
00:42:31When we first met
00:42:33The way you said you were retired
00:42:34It was like you weren't entirely comfortable with it
00:42:37My superiors back on St. Marie
00:42:41They tried to get rid of me
00:42:44After 50 years
00:42:45Of doing a job I loved
00:42:48In the end
00:42:51I
00:42:52I just walked away
00:42:54I know what it's like
00:42:57I'm just silly old Marjorie on reception
00:43:00Don't even get invited to the Christmas party they're having out there
00:43:04I'm sorry
00:43:06And I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean
00:43:10Look at us
00:43:17Moving like this on Christmas Day
00:43:20When you cook this feast for us
00:43:23We should be enjoying ourselves
00:43:26Here
00:43:27Will you do me the pleasure?
00:43:30Well, if you insist
00:43:32I won!
00:43:35I won!
00:43:36Oh, where's it gone?
00:43:39Where's it gone?
00:43:43It's a tiny little sewing pit
00:43:46All right, um, let me check with the inspector
00:43:54Okay, speak to you soon
00:43:56All right
00:43:57Hey, Merry Christmas, guys
00:44:02Merry Christmas, Seth
00:44:03Hey, dear
00:44:04Now, where are we at with the search for Ashley Sims?
00:44:07So, um, B&Bs, hotels, guest horses
00:44:11Nobody's heard from her
00:44:13And no one's called in with her sighting either
00:44:14It's like she's vanished into thin air
00:44:16Oh, and, uh, Catherine just called
00:44:18She said she can still squeeze us in for her Christmas Day lunch
00:44:21But it's her last sitting
00:44:22So we have to go now
00:44:23Are we still asking ourselves
00:44:25How was Darian shot with a bullet
00:44:27Fired from a gun
00:44:28Locked in a drawer in Swindon
00:44:30At the time that it happened
00:44:31And what has Blitzen got to do with all of this?
00:44:37Are you coming, sir?
00:44:40Well, yeah, you guys go
00:44:41I'll just keep working
00:44:42Are you sure, sir?
00:44:45Wait a minute
00:44:46What are these?
00:44:48Oh, those are the invices, sir, you know
00:44:51For the stuff I organized to help find Ashley Sims
00:44:54You have, um, posters, adverts for TV and radio
00:44:58There's over $1,000 that we owe
00:44:59We can't afford this
00:45:00Well, um
00:45:01Well, how big do you think our budget was?
00:45:03It's only because you said whatever it takes
00:45:05Yeah, but not this much
00:45:07I mean, what were you thinking?
00:45:09All right, let's
00:45:10Let's calm it
00:45:11Seb, why don't you head over to Catherine's
00:45:16And I'll catch up with you
00:45:18With respect
00:45:24He's just doing his best to help
00:45:28And he's given up his Christmas to do it, sir
00:45:31Look, I know the case is frustrating
00:45:35And you've got other things on your mind
00:45:37What other things?
00:45:38Well, your brother not calling
00:45:41What?
00:45:42That's not bothering me
00:45:43It isn't
00:45:46It isn't?
00:45:47No, it isn't
00:45:47Yes, it is
00:45:48Of course it is
00:45:50And I really wish you'd just admit that
00:45:53Rather than pretending like you don't care
00:45:54When you so clearly care
00:45:56Just don't take it out on the rest of us
00:46:10Thanks for listening to us
00:46:36joyeux noël camille and to little chloe her grandmother is missing her today
00:46:49has she opened a present yet no not yet ah one moment camille yes okay yes
00:46:56no moving
00:47:26so
00:47:56Inspector, everything all right?
00:48:10I'm feeling bad, sir, about messing up your Christmas.
00:48:13I'm sorry you couldn't get to spend it with your daughter.
00:48:15It's not your fault.
00:48:16If anyone's to blame, it's the British transport system,
00:48:19which I am told is not uncommon.
00:48:22I mean, I like to say you get used to it by belying.
00:48:26I don't know.
00:48:27Just a minute.
00:48:42Is that the sea?
00:48:44Right down here.
00:48:45Yeah.
00:48:46I'm at the shack.
00:48:47It's beautiful out here.
00:48:49It's a really clear night.
00:48:51But then all nights are like that here, aren't they?
00:48:53The moon here is a little more grey than I remember it in St. Marie.
00:49:07I'm just wondering if I made a mistake staying on in St. Marie.
00:49:11Why?
00:49:11Because I know I'm not good when I put myself on the line.
00:49:16I feel like I'm just hanging around, waiting.
00:49:20Your brother?
00:49:23Yeah.
00:49:23I don't think he wants to get in touch.
00:49:33I'm sorry, it's not really your problem anymore, is it, Will?
00:49:36There are stay or go.
00:49:37It still feels like it is.
00:49:39Inspector, if you are not sure what to do, the only advice I can offer is that you put
00:49:50your trust in that island.
00:49:52If St. Marie won't bring your brother to you, then perhaps it will bring you someone or something else.
00:50:19Be patient.
00:50:23Yeah, well, you know patience isn't my forte, right?
00:50:27I know.
00:50:29But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
00:50:31Might I suggest you focus on solving that case?
00:50:36Yes, you have.
00:50:39You're missed here, you know?
00:50:41Good night, Inspector.
00:50:48Good night, Inspector.
00:50:48Good night.
00:51:06Good night.
00:51:08Good night.
00:51:11Good night.
00:51:13Blitzen, why Blitzen?
00:51:23Officer Rose?
00:51:26Inspector.
00:51:27What's up?
00:51:29I wanted to come and say I'm sorry for spending all that money you don't have in your budget.
00:51:35So I wanted to pay it back.
00:51:38There's $322.86 in there, which I took from my savings.
00:51:47I mean, it's all my savings, but that's cool.
00:51:50And if you deduct $20 from my wages each month, you should be paid back in about two years, I reckon.
00:51:59Officer Rose, you've got a good heart. Anyone ever tell you that?
00:52:06Well, my auntie, like, all the time, you know?
00:52:13Take this.
00:52:14You don't have to pay anything back.
00:52:17We'll find it in the budget.
00:52:20And there's no need to apologise, alright?
00:52:22In fact, I should apologise for blazing at you like that.
00:52:27What you did was, um, was really good work.
00:52:32Anyway, come on. I've got a new lead. Let's go and wake DS Thomas up.
00:52:42He can't keep doing this.
00:52:46Happy Boxing Day, DS Thomas.
00:52:49Listen, um, I want to apologise for losing it and ruining Christmas.
00:52:57I'll make it up to you. I promise.
00:53:02And you were right about me taking it out on you because of Solomon.
00:53:09I just really wanted it, you know?
00:53:14I'm sorry, too.
00:53:17Good morning, Sarge.
00:53:19The inspector tell you the good news yet?
00:53:22He's only going to make a big breakthrough in the case, which is a big relief.
00:53:26Because I was drawing a blank.
00:53:29You have tea?
00:53:32So, I've been going through Darien St. Jules' phone records.
00:53:35And he phoned someone the day before he was murdered.
00:53:38A friend of his called Trishawn King.
00:53:41Now, he was over on Montserrat for Christmas.
00:53:44So, I asked Darlene to speak with him.
00:53:46Darlene?
00:53:47Last night?
00:53:48Yeah.
00:53:49And how was she with that?
00:53:50Er, you know, she was... she was cool with it.
00:53:53Inspector, it's Christmas Day.
00:53:56What in God's name do you think you'll do it?
00:54:03Anyway, it turned out Darien feared for his life.
00:54:06And he was asking Trishawn where he can get hold of a gun for protection.
00:54:10He thought someone was going to kill him.
00:54:13Did he say who?
00:54:15Hmm.
00:54:16But he did say he was caught up in something he shouldn't have.
00:54:18And get this.
00:54:19He thought the woman he was trying to help had been murdered.
00:54:22Now I'm caught up in it all.
00:54:24And now he was worried that he was going to suffer the same fate.
00:54:27Whoa, wait.
00:54:28Darien told Trishawn he thought Ashley Simms was murdered.
00:54:32But it would explain why no one's seen her the last few days.
00:54:35So then, if this is true, that means that whoever killed Ashley Simms
00:54:39probably also murdered Darien St. Jules.
00:54:42To silence him.
00:54:43So what we need to start looking for now is anyone who had a reason
00:54:47to kill Ashley Simms.
00:54:48We're both Helen and Neil Dogdale to start with.
00:54:51Ashley stole half a million pounds from their company.
00:54:54And there's someone else as well.
00:55:03We've been looking at your phone records.
00:55:05And these, Miss Hickson, are text messages from you to Ashley Simms
00:55:09just before she came out here.
00:55:11You'll regret ever meeting me.
00:55:13Stay away from my boyfriend or else I'm not afraid to hurt you.
00:55:18The list goes on.
00:55:20Care to explain?
00:55:22They had a thing, right?
00:55:25Gavin and Ashley had a thing behind my back.
00:55:29Sort of.
00:55:30Sort of?
00:55:32Yeah, like, it wasn't like a real thing.
00:55:35Like, they never really got together.
00:55:36But...
00:55:37But he liked her.
00:55:40Yeah.
00:55:42God knows why.
00:55:43She was weird.
00:55:44But I think Gav liked that about her.
00:55:46And he called things off between us.
00:55:52And that's when I started warning her off.
00:55:53Guess I just got a bit carried away.
00:55:55I just...
00:55:57I just didn't want to lose him.
00:56:00And you didn't.
00:56:02Now that Ashley's conveniently disappeared,
00:56:05you've got Gavin to yourself now, haven't you?
00:56:07What?
00:56:08Is that what you think?
00:56:10That I killed her?
00:56:14No, I wouldn't.
00:56:16I didn't.
00:56:17It'll be about Gavin.
00:56:20We need to tell him what we know.
00:56:22But Ashley called things off with Gav.
00:56:25Why would I kill her?
00:56:26Inspector.
00:56:28You need to hear the truth.
00:56:30What?
00:56:31And I'm afraid you're not going to get that from her.
00:56:33No disrespect, Karen.
00:56:35Neil, come on, man.
00:56:37What are you saying?
00:56:38Whatever she's told you,
00:56:39it's ten times worse.
00:56:40Neil, what are you saying?
00:56:41Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:56:42You've had your chance.
00:56:43Go on.
00:56:45He had a thing for Ashley.
00:56:47Is that it?
00:56:48We already know.
00:56:49No, it was more than that.
00:56:50Gavin was obsessed.
00:56:51When Ashley said they couldn't see each other anymore,
00:56:54he had to take time off work.
00:56:55And I've seen the posters you've been putting up.
00:56:57If Ashley's gone missing,
00:56:58then I'm telling you
00:56:59he'll have something to do with Gavin.
00:57:02Inspector.
00:57:08Someone's just broken into the villa where Darion was shut.
00:57:11Where they were shut.
00:57:12Who's so broken?
00:57:13What?
00:57:14What?
00:57:15What?
00:57:16What?
00:57:17Who's so broken?
00:57:19What?
00:57:20What?
00:57:21Who's so broken?
00:57:22What?
00:57:23Who's broken down?
00:57:24What is so broken?
00:57:25Mr. Bradbury.
00:57:56This doesn't look good at all.
00:58:00But then I don't think you need me to tell you that.
00:58:05You want to start by telling us what we're going to find in that pool you've just emptied?
00:58:09And we know it's not the gun used to kill Darien St. Jules,
00:58:12because that's currently sitting in a police station somewhere in Swindon.
00:58:15So what's down there? Why have you come back to the crime scene, Gavin?
00:58:18What's so important?
00:58:19Inspector! Found something.
00:58:23What is it?
00:58:24A bullet. One that's been fired.
00:58:32Why is there a bullet in the pool, Gav?
00:58:35It's like...
00:58:37Keepsake.
00:58:39Something to remember Ashley by.
00:58:45A bullet?
00:58:46There are other things that I've got of hers as well, like...
00:58:51More like normal things.
00:58:53I'm really not interested in those, funny enough.
00:58:56Ashley, she's...
00:58:58She's not like anyone I've ever met before.
00:59:00Like, it was exciting, being around her.
00:59:03And her life was so different to mine.
00:59:06Yeah, I hear that. The bullet.
00:59:08Yeah.
00:59:10She has a gun.
00:59:13She was looking after it as a favour for someone that she knew from prison.
00:59:17And she...
00:59:18We went out to the woods one day and she let me fire it.
00:59:23It was amazing, right?
00:59:24It was...
00:59:26You know, like exhilarating.
00:59:27And I went and got one of the bullets.
00:59:29You know, like I said that I would keep it with me to remind me of her.
00:59:32When they say romance is dead.
00:59:36So, why did it end up in the pool?
00:59:39I panicked.
00:59:40When there was that dead guy and Neil called the police.
00:59:44I was worried that if you found it, you'd think it was me that shot him.
00:59:48So I took it out and I was wondering what to do and...
00:59:52I dropped it.
00:59:54It fell in the pool.
00:59:57And the more you were sniffing around, the more I started to worry that you'd find it.
00:59:59So I came back and I...
01:00:04So you loved Ashley then?
01:00:07Yeah, I guess, yeah.
01:00:10Must have really hurt when she ended things.
01:00:14Gavin, we believe Ashley Sims was murdered on this island in the last few days.
01:00:20What? No. What? If she can't be...
01:00:22I'm kind of wondering if maybe you did it.
01:00:25Me?
01:00:27Why would I kill Ashley?
01:00:29Because you couldn't have her.
01:00:30And it hurt like hell.
01:00:31No, no, no, no. You've got this wrong.
01:00:33I didn't kill her.
01:00:34I owe that man.
01:00:37You seem a bit edgy, Gavin.
01:00:40Is there something you aren't telling us?
01:00:42There's nothing.
01:00:44Really, there is nothing.
01:00:45Paradise Corp Hotel, please.
01:00:46What is it that he's not saying?
01:01:01No.
01:01:02Hey, this is Ashley's phone. You know what to do.
01:01:03Ashley, it's me.
01:01:04We need to talk. I'm worried about you.
01:01:05The police have been asking questions and I think they know about us, so...
01:01:07Just let me know what you want me to do, yeah?
01:01:08Please call me back. I love you.
01:01:09You all right, sir?
01:01:10You all right, sir?
01:01:11You seem like it's a good thing.
01:01:12Yes, it's a good thing.
01:01:13It's a good thing.
01:01:15It's a good thing.
01:01:16It's a good thing.
01:01:17And it's a good thing.
01:01:18It's a good thing.
01:01:19It's a good thing.
01:01:20I'm very proud of you.
01:01:21I'll be here to the store.
01:01:23Please call me back.
01:01:25I love you.
01:01:38You all right, sir?
01:01:40You seem like I've been tense.
01:01:42I just can't work this one out.
01:01:45I mean, we've got one potential murder victim whose body we haven't found.
01:01:49Another murder victim whose body we have found.
01:01:51But that murder weapon was locked in a desk drawer on the other side of the well when that murder took place.
01:01:56I mean, where do we even start?
01:01:58Well, sounds like you need to go get a little shoulder rub, you know?
01:02:02Release some of that tension.
01:02:04No, you all right, Officer Rose.
01:02:09This guy again.
01:02:11Listen, mate, I told you before, I'm not interested in upgrading to another phone.
01:02:15So stop calling me, eh?
01:02:17Is that Mervyn Wilson?
01:02:19Yeah, it's still Mervyn Wilson, and I'm still not interested.
01:02:22It's me, Solomon.
01:02:24Your brother.
01:02:31Are you there, Mervyn?
01:02:35Mervyn?
01:02:37Yes.
01:02:39Yes, he's here.
01:02:40Don't hang up.
01:02:41Oh, Solomon.
01:02:55It's Mervyn.
01:02:57Yeah, you already know that.
01:02:59Um, look, mate, I'm sorry.
01:03:02I just wasn't expecting your call.
01:03:04Yeah, I know.
01:03:06I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but it was, you know?
01:03:11No, no, no, mate.
01:03:12I totally understand, yeah?
01:03:14I mean, it's a process, right?
01:03:17But, hey, you're calling now, aren't you?
01:03:20Yeah, man, it's a process.
01:03:22But I'm glad to be calling now.
01:03:28Are you still there?
01:03:31Mervyn?
01:03:32Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
01:03:34Um, look, um, Solomon, I'm really, really sorry to do this to you.
01:03:42And I am so glad you called and that we're finally speaking.
01:03:46And I really, really want us to talk again, but right now, there's something I need to do, yeah?
01:03:55Yeah, man, no problem.
01:03:56Go to our tune.
01:03:58That was quick.
01:04:00Officer Rose, that billboard, you did that, right?
01:04:02Yes, sir, I did.
01:04:05What?
01:04:06You should already have the invites for that.
01:04:07It's not going to cost any extra.
01:04:09No, no, no, I don't care about the cost.
01:04:10It was worth every penny.
01:04:11Come, come, look.
01:04:18You see, all along, we've been looking at Ashley's footage on phone screens and laptops, yeah?
01:04:24What?
01:04:25They were too small.
01:04:27I don't understand.
01:04:29You see where Ashley is?
01:04:30This is a steal from the video she made.
01:04:32And in the background, there's a ship passing by.
01:04:36Now, before that was just a speck, but now you've blown it up.
01:04:40Look at it.
01:04:41What about the ship?
01:04:43Look at what it's called.
01:04:47Blitzen.
01:04:48Blitzen.
01:04:49Blitzen.
01:04:50Yeah?
01:04:51Now we know.
01:04:53Oh, Officer Rose, if you were so tall, I'd kiss you.
01:04:57Why would Darian write the name of that ship on his hands?
01:05:00Well, he obviously saw the footage himself and then, um, he saw something in it, but what?
01:05:13Blitzen.
01:05:13It's like she's vanished into thin air.
01:05:15It's why I've come here.
01:05:16I thought I was helping someone.
01:05:19You know what?
01:05:21I think I'm starting to work out what went down here.
01:05:24But I need to make a phone call.
01:05:27And you need to get on Squareport Security.
01:05:29Come on.
01:05:29All right, mate.
01:05:33Much appreciated.
01:05:34Cheers.
01:05:36Wow.
01:05:37What?
01:05:38Wow.
01:05:41So, that ship behind Ashley Sims, it's owned by a Scandinavian container shipping company.
01:05:47Now, we know from the information on that footage, Ashley recorded it on the 4th of October, right?
01:05:52Right.
01:05:53Well, check this.
01:05:55The Blitzen was passing by the south coast of England on the 4th of October.
01:05:59Thousands of miles from the Caribbean.
01:06:01So, Ashley recorded that video on a beach back in the UK.
01:06:05Which means she was never even here.
01:06:08Inspector, the airport just emailed over security camera footage the day Ashley Sims arrived on the island.
01:06:17Wait, she was here?
01:06:19Thank you for a wonderful Christmas, Marjorie.
01:06:22Oh, it's been lovely.
01:06:23Let me give you a hand with that.
01:06:25Oh, don't be daft. You don't know where anything goes.
01:06:27Then you can tell me. It's the least I can do.
01:06:32Living room. Sideboard draw.
01:06:34Living room. Sideboard draw.
01:06:37Sideboard draw.
01:06:38But if Ashley Sims has never been here before, why do immigration records show that she has?
01:06:45Because someone else came pretending to be Ashley, presumably on a fake passport.
01:06:50And that someone paid Darian 100k to lie and say Ashley rented his property for the past few months.
01:06:55But why would they do that?
01:06:57To misdirect and confuse anyone looking for her.
01:07:00Because they'd already killed Ashley and taken the money.
01:07:03So one of our four suspects has been here three months previously.
01:07:06Which is why we're going through this footage.
01:07:08Because it will show who was pretending to be Ashley Sims.
01:07:13There.
01:07:14Why didn't I see that before?
01:07:16Why I've come here to try and understand why I hurt people.
01:07:20No, it was more than that.
01:07:21Gavin was obsessed.
01:07:23Of course.
01:07:24After that, nobody has seen you leaving or arriving.
01:07:26So it's got to be one of these four who shot Darian and St. Jules.
01:07:31You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
01:07:34You didn't hear the gunshot.
01:07:35It's like Helen said, you know, the room out here, it's stronger than you used to.
01:07:38What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
01:07:42It makes perfect sense now.
01:07:45For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
01:07:46The commissioner found a gun locked in the desk drawer at Dugdale's offices back in the UK.
01:07:51We need to call the commissioner.
01:07:53The commissioner? Why?
01:07:54Because he's with the killer as we speak.
01:08:09Come on, sir. Pick up.
01:08:15And what about these ones?
01:08:17Same drawer.
01:08:18Oh.
01:08:24I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:44I said the same drawer.
01:08:48No.
01:08:48No.
01:08:49It was you that went to St. Marie three months ago.
01:09:16If Ashley never went then, is she dead?
01:09:23Oh, I'm sorry.
01:09:24I didn't mean to.
01:09:26It just happened.
01:09:29Miss Duggs.
01:09:32I think you should put the knife down, no.
01:09:37Please.
01:09:50That video she made, it wasn't in the Caribbean, was it?
01:09:57Bournemouth.
01:09:59On a Sunday, she'd gone to the seaside.
01:10:03She realized she'd made a mistake stealing that money, didn't she?
01:10:09Then she wanted to give the money back and send the video as an apology.
01:10:15I want to say sorry.
01:10:17I don't know why I keep doing this.
01:10:18Miss Sims didn't leave the country.
01:10:20I'd gone in to the office that day to deal with an order that had gone wrong.
01:10:28It wasn't my fault.
01:10:30But I was the one who had to go in and fix it.
01:10:33And then when I let myself in, I found Ashley there and I knew, I knew straight away what the money was.
01:10:41You overhear a lot when you sit at reception all day.
01:10:45I knew it was you.
01:10:47And I went to call the police.
01:10:49Wait, I'm giving the money back, Marjorie.
01:10:52Don't.
01:10:53Please.
01:10:55I'm calling the police now.
01:10:57Don't do this to me.
01:10:58You're not.
01:10:59And Ashley tried to stop me.
01:11:01I won't let you, Marjorie.
01:11:03Get off me.
01:11:04Pushed her off me and...
01:11:06And I wasn't even supposed to be in that day.
01:11:24But it's like I told you, nobody, nobody cares for me there.
01:11:29They just take me for granted and...
01:11:32You sold the money and thought...
01:11:35Finally, you could take something back for yourself.
01:11:41All you had to do was dispose of the body.
01:11:48Where?
01:11:55In my back garden.
01:11:56And then you made a fake passport in Ashley's name.
01:12:05Oh, that wasn't hard, you know, with all the kit we've got in the office.
01:12:09You flew on that passport to St. Marie to make it look as if Miss Sims had run away to the other side of the world and rented her property there for the last few months.
01:12:22You know, I really did want to go to the Caribbean.
01:12:26It's just that I never had the chance or the money until...
01:12:32Until...
01:12:33And if you were going to misdirect from what really happened here in Swindon, where the dead body was, then the farther away, the better.
01:12:45And no-one would realise...
01:12:47Until things started to go wrong and you received a phone call.
01:12:58You're saying Marjorie killed Ashley Sims?
01:13:09Our receptionist, that Marjorie?
01:13:11That Marjorie.
01:13:12Yes, Marjorie Dodds, the receptionist, killed Ashley Sims in England and made it look as if she ran away to the Caribbean with your 500k.
01:13:21Oh, my. I did not see that coming.
01:13:23So, which one of us shot the man found in our swimming pool?
01:13:27It wasn't any of you.
01:13:29But it had to be. You said so. No-one else was here.
01:13:32Yeah, you're right. I did say that.
01:13:34But what I didn't know then was that Darian St. Jules wasn't shot at your villa.
01:13:40It just looked like he was.
01:13:42That's why no gunshot was heard, because there wasn't one.
01:13:46He'd already been shot.
01:13:47We know now from our colleague in the UK that Marjorie had paid Darian money.
01:13:57She came to the island three months ago on a forged passport and she gave him £100,000 to lie and cover if anyone ever came to the island asking after Ashley.
01:14:07She'd convinced him he was doing a favour for a very vulnerable friend of hers.
01:14:13But when you visited him a few days ago, Mrs. Dogdale, asking questions, mentioning the missing £500,000,
01:14:19Darian started to wonder what he'd gotten himself involved in.
01:14:23And when he re-watched that footage more closely, the footage of Ashley you'd shown him,
01:14:28as an experienced fisherman who knew the waters of St. Marie very well, something about it bothered him.
01:14:34Zooming in, he was able to read the name of the boat, Blitzen.
01:14:38He knew this was not a St. Marie vessel.
01:14:41He worked out that the video of Ashley was actually shot in the UK.
01:14:48And having heard from you, Mrs. Dogdale, that Ashley went missing with £500,000 of your money,
01:14:54Darian started to realise that Ashley had never been to the island.
01:14:57He'd only ever met Marjorie.
01:14:59So he phoned Miss Dodds, asking what was going on.
01:15:04We need to talk.
01:15:09Listen, Darian, you've got this all wrong.
01:15:14All throughout this case, we thought Darian's killer had to be one of you four.
01:15:19The one person we never suspected was Marjorie Dodds.
01:15:23It was all the way back in Swindon.
01:15:25Or so we thought.
01:15:26With Darian threatening to go to the police, Marjorie asked him to hang fire.
01:15:31And she would fly out here and speak to him in person.
01:15:35Marjorie was here?
01:15:36On this island?
01:15:36At the exact same time we were?
01:15:38Yeah.
01:15:38She arrived the night before Darian was shot and flew back to the UK the next morning.
01:15:42Unable to convince Darian to keep quiet and carry on with the lie, Marjorie started to grow desperate.
01:15:50Worried he'd tell the police.
01:15:52I can give you more money.
01:15:53How much?
01:15:54Just tell me and I'll give it to you.
01:15:56We know Darian was searching around for a gun, for self-protection.
01:16:01I just want you to leave.
01:16:03Now!
01:16:05He never expected Marjorie would use it against him.
01:16:13What are you doing?
01:16:14Put the gun down!
01:16:20After shooting Darian, Marjorie left and headed for the airport.
01:16:24Before getting back on the plane, arriving at Dugdale's offices just in time to meet with our very own Commissioner Patterson.
01:16:31If Marjorie shot Darian at his house, how did he end up at our villa?
01:16:36Marjorie thought she'd killed him.
01:16:38But what she didn't know when she left Darian's place was that he was still alive.
01:16:46It was the fact that he smelled so strongly of someone else's aftershave that helped us work it out.
01:16:51Neil's aftershave, in fact.
01:16:53We thought it was there to cover up another smell that we now know was antiseptic.
01:16:59The stuff he used to clean up a wound.
01:17:02Because as soon as Marjorie quit the scene, Darian regained consciousness and patched himself up.
01:17:07As far as he was concerned, the bullet was just lodged in his shoulder.
01:17:11It wasn't life-threatening.
01:17:12So he put on a fresh T-shirt and headed off to the hospital to get it properly seen to.
01:17:18But on the way, it passed your villa, which was just half a mile down the road.
01:17:23And I think Darian intended to alert you to what had gone down.
01:17:27He stopped here to tell you the truth about Ashley and to warn you about what Marjorie had done.
01:17:32That's why he came here that morning.
01:17:35To tell you what your colleague had done to Ashley and in turn to him.
01:17:39To make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
01:17:43But what Darian didn't know was that his wound was worse than he thought.
01:17:47And he was bleeding internally.
01:17:49And so despite his brave effort to alert you all to the truth, he died here in your villa.
01:17:58But then someone proceeded to stage the scene as if he was shot in this villa.
01:18:06Didn't you, Mr. Bradbury?
01:18:10Me? What?
01:18:11We talked? No, of course not. No.
01:18:14And you did it because Ashley told you to.
01:18:16You're crazy. Ashley, I don't know what you're talking about.
01:18:22Let me have your phone.
01:18:27Gavin, please.
01:18:31It's okay.
01:18:33Unlock it.
01:18:46Bingo.
01:18:49Text messages seemingly from Ashley Sims from the moment she disappeared right up to today.
01:18:55But all of these were sent by Marjorie Dodds.
01:19:00Who kept Ashley's phone after she killed her.
01:19:03No, you know, you're wrong.
01:19:04You've been texting her?
01:19:06No.
01:19:06This whole time?
01:19:07Karen, I'm sorry.
01:19:08Look, look.
01:19:08No, no.
01:19:09Karen!
01:19:11And here, proof of what happened.
01:19:14Messages exchanged on the morning of Darian's death.
01:19:17Because despite what you told us, Gavin, you were actually the first to discover Darian's body.
01:19:21You knew who Darian was because Ashley had told you all about him.
01:19:29And so you contacted Ashley.
01:19:31Left a message telling her that Darian had turned up to the villa and died.
01:19:35And asking her what was going on.
01:19:37A few minutes later, she, or rather, Marjorie, texted back.
01:19:42See, Marjorie realized that if the police were called and found Darian with his wound patched up,
01:19:49they'd know he was shot somewhere else.
01:19:52And the trail would lead right back to her.
01:19:55So, she had to do two things.
01:19:58First, she texted you with instructions.
01:20:00Second, she had to clear up the real scene of the crime.
01:20:03Marjorie's confessed to her colleague in the UK that she quickly doubled back from the airport
01:20:07and returned to Darian's house before disposing of the gun and the t-shirt he was wearing when she shot him.
01:20:12Meanwhile, you moved the body outside to the swimming pool.
01:20:15There's also a mention here of that bullet you kept as a memento in the text messages you sent to Ashley.
01:20:20Well, that's how Marjorie knew.
01:20:23So, as Ashley, she asked you to remove the bullet she killed Darian with and replace it with the one she knew you had.
01:20:32However, in your haste, you must have dropped the bullet you extracted into the swimming pool.
01:20:39But you knew you could come back and retrieve it later.
01:20:43Once you switched the bullets, the heartbeat was over.
01:20:46You disposed of the dressing.
01:20:50Then made a hole in his t-shirt and let the blood around the wound soak in.
01:20:55So now, it looked like Darian had been shot after he entered the villa, not before.
01:21:01The last problem you had was getting rid of that antiseptic smell, because that stuff lingers, right?
01:21:07And if the police noticed it, we'd certainly be asking who cleaned up the wound and why.
01:21:12So you ran into the bathroom and got hold of some aftershave, kneels, and doused him in it.
01:21:17So now all you had to do was pretend to be asleep when Mrs. Dogdale discovered the body.
01:21:23Gavin, we need to get to the airport.
01:21:26You've got to pack.
01:21:27Leaving us without a scooby, as to how a man was shot with a gun that was locked in a desk drawer 5,000 miles away in a Swindon warehouse.
01:21:35In the end, it wasn't just the police that Marjorie Dodds had duped.
01:21:39It was you as well, Gavin.
01:21:40You see, you thought you were helping the woman you loved.
01:21:44A woman you'd do anything for when you were actually helping her killer.
01:21:56Officer Rose.
01:22:06Mr. Bradbury, I'm arresting on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
01:22:10You don't need to say anything.
01:22:11But it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question or something you later rely on in court.
01:22:16Anything you do say may be used as evidence.
01:22:18I need to know, why did you come to the train station that night and invite me into your home?
01:22:26Why take that risk?
01:22:29Because I didn't want to spend Christmas on my own again.
01:22:32I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:22:53Inspector?
01:22:55Commissioner?
01:22:55The arrest has been made.
01:22:58I'm pleased to see.
01:22:59Same here.
01:23:00We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:23:03Oh, and are you doing all right?
01:23:05Me?
01:23:06Yes, of course.
01:23:08I'm fine.
01:23:09Merry Christmas, sir.
01:23:16I'm doing fine.
01:23:17We regret to announce that the 10-15 to Leeds will be delayed due to a shortage of train staff.
01:23:29Chief Commissioner, it's Selwyn Patterson.
01:23:40And to you, and apologies for calling you during the holidays.
01:23:46But I wanted to know if you'd found my replacement as yet.
01:23:53I see.
01:23:58I've been doing some thinking.
01:24:00And I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the road.
01:24:09If it's still vacant.
01:24:11I know it's been a long time since I've been searching.
01:24:19Since I've been searching to find you.
01:24:24The thing is, Harry, the classic Christmas Day Sunday roast lunch is all well and good.
01:24:30But when push comes to shove, the real culinary high point is the turkey and stuffing sarni.
01:24:37Because my friend, in my humble opinion, it is one of the greatest delicacies known to mankind.
01:24:45Like bacon and eggs?
01:24:49Oh, DS Thomas, you're just in time.
01:24:51Come in, come in.
01:24:54Grab those for me, would you?
01:24:59So, uh, what is this about, sir?
01:25:03I promised I'd make up for a spoiling Christmas Day.
01:25:06And that is exactly what I'm doing.
01:25:08Come on.
01:25:13I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
01:25:15My front room on the beach.
01:25:17Is that a good idea, do you think?
01:25:19Yeah, why not?
01:25:21So we're watching something.
01:25:22We certainly are, DS Thomas.
01:25:24Not the...
01:25:25The great escape.
01:25:26Yeah.
01:25:30Beers and butties, everyone.
01:25:32And thank you to our local mayor for letting me have the leftovers from the bar.
01:25:36And you've put it all between two slices of bread?
01:25:41Yeah.
01:25:42How English.
01:25:42Excited for this film, inspector.
01:25:46Sounds dope.
01:25:48Um, sir.
01:25:53Is this really your favourite thing about Christmas?
01:25:55Well, yeah.
01:25:58When I was a little boy growing up, most times I didn't know where I was going to end up spending
01:26:03Christmas, right?
01:26:05With a foster family or in a care home.
01:26:09But wherever I ended up, the one constant every Christmas was his film.
01:26:17And it was a comfort to me.
01:26:19I bet that little boy never thought he'd be here in the Caribbean all these years later, watching
01:26:28that same film surrounded by his friends.
01:26:32He certainly didn't care for him.
01:26:41So, um...
01:26:43To him.
01:26:46Tea.
01:26:49OK, then.
01:26:51Showtime.
01:26:51Yeah.
01:26:51Yeah.
01:27:02Look, just give me a few minutes, yeah?
01:27:06Yeah?
01:27:13Solomon, how you doing, man?
01:27:14You got my message, yeah?
01:27:18Um, look.
01:27:21I'm sorry I had to cut you off like that before, yeah?
01:27:24It was just an emergency at work I had to deal with.
01:27:27So, how's your Christmas been?
01:27:31Yeah?
01:27:32Good.
01:27:35Mine, um...
01:27:36I don't know how you feel about this, but I was wondering if you wanted to meet up sometime?
01:27:54Yeah?
01:27:58Yeah, I definitely would like to.
01:28:06Yeah, I definitely would like to.
