This match between Rob Van Dam and Kane on the **November 15, 2001 episode of WWE SmackDown! ** was a spirited, physical non-title encounter that opened the show during the build toward Survivor Series. Kane started strong with power-based offense, dominating early with big clotheslines, a sidewalk backbreaker, and working RVD’s back, while RVD responded with his quickness, dropkicks, a spinning heel kick, and Rolling Thunder to keep the matchup competitive. As the bout progressed Kane nearly put RVD away with a superplex and continued punishing offense, but Booker T ran in and distracted Kane, allowing RVD to hit a top-rope martial arts kick and score the pinfall victory. After the match, The Undertaker came out to chase Booker T off, adding extra heat to the post-match situation and furthering the ongoing WWF vs. The Alliance tension heading into Survivor Series.
