This match on the March 14, 2002 episode of WWE SmackDown! between Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle was a competitive singles bout that saw both men exchange offensive sequences before a decisive finish. RVD started strong with dynamic offense — including a dropkick, springboard cross body, spinning heel kick, and Rolling Thunder — keeping Angle on the defensive and scoring near-falls. Angle fought back with his trademark power moves and eventually targeted RVD with the Ankle Lock submission after RVD kicked him off and came close to winning with an inside cradle. The match’s turning point came when William Regal ran in to distract RVD, allowing Angle to take advantage, hit a top-rope overhead belly-to-belly suplex, and lock in the Ankle Lock for the tap-out victory. After the match, Regal continued the assault until Kane made the save, attacking Regal and setting up further storyline developments.
