00:00She's a one-woman army. She's single-handedly revolutionized Indian television. They don't call her the queen of prime time for absolutely nothing. She's combated cricket, reality shows, game shows and always emerged victorious. Please welcome a fellow Gemini and a very dear friend of mine. None other than Ekta Kapoor.
00:30Welcome back to Coffee with Karan. Oh, thank you. I'm so happy being back. Look at you looking all glamorous. I've seen you looking at this and I just get the visual of the same little podgy girl. Look at me talking. I was double your size then. Dancing at Abhishek's birthday party in a silver dress. You look like a silver ball, like a silver disco ball. Disco Rani.
00:59Doing one little disco step and I remember you crying because you came, what you came, you came no, you came third or you didn't come third at all?
01:07I came third and they gave the first prize to Adi and I wanted that prize.
01:10Now, lesser known fact, Aditya Chopra won over Hrithik Roshan in the dance comedy. Hrithik came second, Aditya Chopra came first and you came third.
01:17I remember you bawling in the corner. Very upset I was.
01:19But then Adi very magnanimously gave you the crown. Finally, he made you get the first prize.
01:23I think it was in his genes to be extremely genuinely.
01:27And very generous and magnanimous. And now when I look at you today, I think it's really a life.
01:32Just take a complete circle to see him doing so well and you doing so well.
01:35I hope he in the future also gives me generously something.
01:40All right. Okay. No, but really you are today and I introduced you and I said, you know, you're the queen of prime time.
01:45And two years ago I said the same thing. Two years later, you're even beyond that.
01:50How does it feel to be that numero uno in your field?
01:53You know what? It's been the same as in there's been a sense of complacency that had come into the medium a couple of months ago
02:05when there was no competition and you were just doing well.
02:07But now suddenly with Z coming up, I think it's becoming tougher to be on the top.
02:13But the fun, the competition, the aggression that TV has now, it's only going to get better and more fun.
02:21Do you think there was a certain kind of like, I'm ruling, I'm rocking and there's nobody in the periphery?
02:25I think it happens to anyone. You also must be knowing that as a director you might be going through,
02:29that you are known to give hits.
02:31And when it comes to having people also giving hits, you now want to do better.
02:36You're so right. Does that happen to you?
02:38Have you ever seen somebody else's work that you've envied and said,
02:41oh my God, they're doing something great and I have to combat that?
02:43Oh, a lot of times. I mean, I really feel television has some very good talent.
02:49You can say I see some, but the real talent that I like to, I mean, emulate or, you know,
02:56be as good as is what we have in Hollywood or the shows existing there.
03:02There are some really good shows and I would like to bring that kind of television to India one day.
03:06There's a lot of action of people who are constantly saying your television is regressive
03:09and they keep saying the same thing. I know I've been through that criticism time and again.
03:13What do you have to say today? Did you get completely fed up of hearing this?
03:17You know, it's like a part of my life. Regressive television or staple diet for couch potatoes.
03:23I'm so used to it. It just doesn't bother me.
03:25Because you know what happens, Karan, when you're doing TV,
03:27you realize that the people you're catering to and the people who are talking are two different people.
03:32Totally.
03:32And I'm going to be catering to a mass audience.
03:35Their problems, I mean, today you're telling me to do a show.
03:37Why are you doing shows with problems like father has daughters, marriage problems?
03:41I said, do you ever go to the India you live in?
03:44This is a problem that exists with the India we live in.
03:47And first know your country, then criticize my shows.
03:49You don't know your country. You don't know the problems people go through out of Malabar Hill.
03:54Yes.
03:54So the day you, I mean, it's not...
03:57Them living in their safety nets talking about what you're doing.
04:00Yeah, their safety nets. They don't even know what their bayou cleans their house has a problem with.
04:05I mean, she might be having a totally different mindset for her.
04:08She doesn't really want to go home and fight with her husband about situations like,
04:12I mean, did you ask me that during dinner?
04:15That's not her conversation.
04:17Yes, of course.
04:17And I make TV for that audience.
04:19You don't like it, don't watch it.
04:22I love that.
04:23That's what I want to tell so many people out there who say things about my films.
04:26But they do watch it, your films and my shows.
04:28I mean, people actually remember episodes and I'm like, I mean, you shouldn't be watching this.
04:33Yeah, you are.
04:33I mean, as I told you, you change people's lives and their timings in their lives.
04:37I mean, you know, that suddenly they don't go out in that time frame.
04:39I know for my mother's daily routine that her whole life has changed and not her.
04:43She represents about a million other women or a million other family people.
04:46And see, we're catering to them.
04:48I mean, I'm here to entertain women who have lived homely lives for the homemakers.
04:54And I make shows for them.
04:55I really don't make shows for women who live in, like, the upper, top, upper stratus of society who want creative, I mean, they want to have their creative juices flowing through television.
05:09I'm sorry.
05:10I make shows for the masses.
05:11Do you think that the whole large section, who are actually going with the flow of the drama on the show, but are not even, like, bothering about the little technicality?
05:20I think fiction is suspension of reality and that is a fact of life.
05:24I mean, you take shows abroad and they also go into, there are such huge glitches in story there.
05:29I mean, I just met the chairman of 20th Century Fox Television.
05:34And she and I, we bonded because both of us had the same issues, actor problems, date problems, and sustaining story through time.
05:41And she was doing weeklies, one-hour weeklies.
05:43They make prison break and 24 and stuff like that.
05:45And so, and their appreciation of our TV was so much more than we appreciate our own TV.
05:52I mean, she was seeing some of our stuff, which she had got through the office because, you know, we are partners.
05:57And she was absolutely amazed how we could shoot accidents, these opulent weddings, in one day.
06:04And she was like, amazing, you guys rock!
06:07And I was like...
06:08Like, you were really happy to hear that.
06:09Yeah.
06:10That's fabulous.
06:11Yeah.
06:11And what, you just spoke about actor problems.
06:13Is that a big, big issue with you?
06:15Is that like a constant war that you have to kind of go through?
06:18Yeah.
06:19I mean, I live and die television.
06:22And for the last seven years, when the daily soaps took the biggest leap into the Indian homes, I've only had one issue.
06:30Actor issues?
06:31Actor issues.
06:32Either someone's having a problem at home, or they're having a problem at work, or they're so tired of doing the same thing.
06:38Which are all understandable problems, but it's a problem that comes up from different sectors, but it's the same thing.
06:43Actor problems.
06:43You've had a solid equation with possibly one of the biggest stars on Indian television, Smriti Irani, who plays Tulsi in 2K Saas P. Kami Bahuti.
06:51And there's a lot of conjecture about problems you're facing with her.
06:53How true is that?
06:56Smriti and I actually are like, I mean, I would call us each other husband and wife.
07:02You know, in a marriage which we've got into, it's an arranged marriage which we got into seven years ago,
07:08there are going to be fights, there are going to be issues, there are going to be days where I'm going to be like,
07:15I wish I had never worked with her before, and she's going to have to say the same about me.
07:19But eventually, we are yet in the marriage, and that speaks a lot.
07:22And you're inseparable.
07:23We're inseparable, and she looks back at the seven years with a lot of love for me, and I look back with the same.
07:30So I don't really think that those daily issues matter, because I mean, you see me and mom work.
07:35I mean, I fight with her, like, there's a problem, and we are, like, at each other's throats.
07:40But then very next minute, we are laughing.
07:42So people really don't understand these issues, you know.
07:45Yeah, so it's more like a ghar ki baat, where you go through ups and downs, but you eventually come back.
07:50Saaz Bahu ka rishhta hai.
07:51Achha.
07:52Akkor and Shruti ka.
07:53Yeah.
07:54All right, that's fantastic, because there's so much media reporting about, you know, her going on as a producer,
07:58about doing other shows, and that's bothering you.
07:59Main naise chaabiyan deeti hai.
08:01Achha.
08:01I told her now, Abhi, tumhaare haat me, ghar tumhaare haat me.
08:06Aghar tumhaare haat me.
08:06So who holds the power between the relationship of Ekta Kapoor and Smitty Rani?
08:12Who has the actual upper hand?
08:14I think it's a 2020 scene.
08:16At times when I need her date, she's got the power.
08:19At times when she wants an offer, I've got the power.
08:21All right, I like that, Ekta.
08:23And on that note, I'm going to take a cake.
08:26That's a break with a K.
08:27Stay tuned, we'll be right back.
08:28Okay.
08:28The nation comes to a standstill between 8.30 and 11.30, thanks to Ekta Kapoor.
08:41See, I called you primetime queen, I tell you darling.
08:43Oh, Karan.
08:44And we were just talking about all your issues with the actors, but strangely, you've only had problems mainly with all the male actors that you've worked with.
08:51Always.
08:52Always fighting with the men, Ekta.
08:54I don't know what's this problem with men and me, you know.
08:57What's your problem with men and you?
08:58I've not been able to hook one till now.
09:00And, yeah, actually, with women what happens is, they are slightly more...
09:04They're known enemies?
09:05They're known enemies and they're smarter.
09:08They know exactly how far to push it.
09:10Men are extremely emotional.
09:12And dumb, you think?
09:13And I would put it as emotional.
09:15Okay.
09:15I don't want any man to see me and do that.
09:17I think I do male bashing.
09:19And because of which, they react to situations instantly.
09:23And because of which, what happens is, they would even put their career at stake if it came to it.
09:27Which actually is a very...
09:29I think they like babies, you know.
09:31They...
09:32Men are like babies.
09:33They have to be moly-coated.
09:33You recently advertised a problem with Rajiv Khandelwal now.
09:36He's out of your life, isn't he?
09:37Yeah.
09:37That's not any kind of baby I like.
09:39No?
09:40That was not somebody who wanted a toffee or chocolate.
09:44He wanted my house.
09:47And no one's taking Balaji away from Balaji herself.
09:50So that problem is like out and done.
09:53No, but like a person like Iqbal or even, for example, Ram, before he was with us.
09:58Ram Kapoor had worked with you in a serial called Gharek Mandir.
10:01Yeah.
10:01And you had a big problem till he came back into Balaji with Kasam Se.
10:05Absolutely.
10:06But you don't see, those issues are very cute.
10:09Like Iqbal has like, no one cares for me.
10:11Or I don't get that much time off.
10:14And these kind of issues are other kind of issues men have.
10:17Women have bigger issues.
10:18Yeah.
10:18But they never leave their shows for that.
10:20They don't.
10:21They don't.
10:22They're smarter.
10:22They know what they're getting out of.
10:23They know exactly what they're doing.
10:24You think men are more impulsive and more like they react instantly and emotionally sometimes.
10:28But they're cuter.
10:29They're cuter.
10:30So should we call three cute boys that you have made into big stars on national television?
10:34They're all with us today.
10:35Oh, they're macho men.
10:36They're not cute boys.
10:37They're not cute boys.
10:37All right.
10:38Okay.
10:38So we'll call on the three big stars of Indian television today.
10:41Please welcome Ronit Roy, Ram Kapoor and Hiten Tejwani, the three big stars on Indian television.
10:47Ah, they're coming like one big fashion show, like all the toast offers.
10:55Welcome to Coffee with Karan.
10:57Hi.
10:58Hi.
10:58Hi.
10:58How are you?
10:59How are you?
10:59Please join us.
11:11See.
11:11Ah.
11:12Look at them all.
11:16They've all greeted the queen.
11:18All the three rock stars.
11:21We were just discussing about how she's basically had problems with only the men and how she
11:25was saying that all of you are like little emotional and, you know, kind of get impulsive
11:29at times.
11:30Is that true?
11:30Oh, she's had a problem with you earlier during your bout with Dharik Manu.
11:33Yeah.
11:34With Ram.
11:34I have to say, I was a very different person at that point in time and she gives all the
11:40credit to my wife for changing me and I have to agree with her because, yeah, my first
11:45teaching in television was more of discovery.
11:50Trying to decide where I want to be.
11:52And you know what happened, no?
11:53I didn't know at that time Gautam and he was seeing each other and I bitched him out
11:56to Gautam only.
11:57Oh, God.
11:58I'm going to see.
11:58That's an actor of yours.
11:59That's a childhood habit of yours.
12:00Yeah, I.
12:01Which I know.
12:02I did all that time.
12:04Ekta used to be this big confusion creator, I want to tell you, as a child.
12:08I've known her since she was, I think, 12 or 13.
12:09We made soap operas even then, you know?
12:11Ekta had caused many fights between many heroes and heroines in the industry at that time
12:15and now she's making full-fledged shows with the fake TV.
12:19Recapturing the.
12:20Yeah, literally.
12:21That whole essence of Ekta Kapoor.
12:22Yeah, but now everything is sorted and now you're all comfortable.
12:25Yeah, I've come back into television, I think, with a much better perspective of what TV
12:31is.
12:32Yeah.
12:32And I love the fact that I'm back with Balaji.
12:36I know their strengths, I know their weaknesses, I know my strengths and weaknesses.
12:39So now I think together we are doing a pretty good job.
12:43And you're definitely running the blue-eyed boy of Balaji.
12:45You're practically in every show with grey hair and some without grey hair and the others.
12:49And, you know, you play all kinds of ages, stages, rages, everything on your television.
12:54Yeah.
12:54So how is it working with Ekta?
12:56I think it's been.
12:57Don't completely praise her because that's not what the show is really all about.
13:01Honestly, Karan, you know, there was a point in my life where there's a lot of alcoholism
13:09and then one evening this friend of mine called Raj who was looking after my work, he came back
13:16home after meeting a producer.
13:17So I asked him, I said, what did he say?
13:20So he went and he fixed me a drink and he gave me a drink.
13:22He said, let it ride.
13:24I said, no, tell me.
13:27He said, you know, we had a chat and let it go.
13:30I said, come on, I'm a big boy.
13:31Tell me.
13:31I can handle it.
13:32What did he say?
13:32I can handle it, yeah.
13:34He said, you know, Ranit, you're done.
13:38He said, what did he say?
13:39Like you're over and done with you.
13:40Yeah.
13:41Oh, God.
13:41He said, you know, why should I take Ranit?
13:44It's better that I cast, you know, any junior artist.
13:49He's more talented, less money.
13:51And that day I said, I said, yeah, man.
13:56It's, I'm really done.
13:57It's over.
13:57And then, Ekta came around, Balaji came around.
14:03And then suddenly he said to myself, I said, no, I'm not.
14:07And at that point of time, Karanai really did not know which way to go.
14:12So that's why I always thank her for, you know, she's brought a dead actor, a dead human being.
14:19You know, she's resurrected.
14:23I mean, today, I mean, literally you have millions of people who are fans of yours.
14:27I mean, all of you, really.
14:28I mean, you have a whole throng of people who kind of love and adore you, watch you every day.
14:32You're part of their families.
14:34And I think she's really made sure of that.
14:36I mean, Hiten, you're a young boy today.
14:38I mean, you know, you're what, you're in your early 30s.
14:40Yes.
14:40But you're playing, I think, a 50-year-old man in one show.
14:43And, you know, you kind of get...
14:4460.
14:4560.
14:46And who knows, with another leap, you'll be 80 soon.
14:49But you have the love and the regard of millions of people at your young age.
14:54How does it feel?
14:55It feels very nice.
14:56I've never thought of this thing.
14:57I've always wanted to be somebody, somewhere.
15:01And suddenly, one day, you know, everything happened.
15:04And it's...
15:05You know, she has this...
15:06It's a praise me session.
15:07This is a praise session.
15:09You take too much praise, which doesn't really happen on this show.
15:11We don't like too much praise.
15:11You have something that is non-praise worthy to say.
15:14Oh, God.
15:14No, that would be very hard.
15:16It would be very hard.
15:17But tell me, is she a real tantrum thrower?
15:20Is she really, like, I believe you throw things at times and you get really angry.
15:24I do.
15:24You do?
15:25No, see, but...
15:25Have any of you seen that side?
15:26Of course.
15:27We all have.
15:28I have not.
15:29You have not seen it.
15:30I have not.
15:30Okay.
15:31See, she's so...
15:32Sorry, sir.
15:32Please go ahead.
15:33Yeah.
15:34I've heard of all this.
15:36The tantrums.
15:37Yeah.
15:38I've never experienced it personally.
15:41Nothing came flying in your direction ever.
15:43Not even harsh words, really, so to say.
15:47I just...
15:48I always tell my colleagues, my co-actors, whenever they...
15:51There's a lot of...
15:52There used to be a lot of bitching about her going on set.
15:54Now they don't because they know I don't take it.
15:56But I always told them that, you know, when an actor is doing one show and they crib about
16:02the long hours, you know, she does 20 shows at a time.
16:05Yeah.
16:05So if you can't handle the pressure of one show...
16:08Yeah.
16:09Then look at what she's going through.
16:10Look at what she's going through.
16:11And what have you been exposed to?
16:12Any tantrum?
16:14Yeah, many tantrums.
16:15But see, now I've understood her.
16:17She's so passionate about what she does.
16:20Yeah.
16:204 o'clock, 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 7 o'clock in the morning.
16:24Yeah.
16:24She's been at it.
16:25The whole day, the whole night.
16:27Yeah, but she comes alive in the night.
16:28I do.
16:28I mean, everybody doesn't know this.
16:30Hekta's day is her night.
16:31And because of this passion, she wants perfection.
16:36She wants 110%.
16:37Yeah.
16:38From your lead actor to the spot boy.
16:41You want to be in this company, you've got to give her 110.
16:43So whenever she doesn't get that 110 is when her temper comes up.
16:47Other than that, I don't think anyone can call her an unreasonable person.
16:52It's out of...
16:54Why can't I get the best?
16:56That's about it.
16:57So if everybody understands that, then they get it off.
16:59Also, apart from her side of the work, which would be the creativity, I've also noticed
17:06that every actor who joins Balaji is somewhere there at the back of her mind.
17:12You know, once you join Balaji, on whatever level you are, you're not sitting in home.
17:18Isn't that what an actor wants?
17:20I mean, I've sat at home for seven years.
17:21I know what it means to an actor to sit at home.
17:24She doesn't let that happen.
17:25You're very gracious like that, Ekta, also.
17:28You've kind of given people...
17:29To call it employment is not what an actor would like to believe it's called.
17:32But you've given them sometimes a resurrection, sometimes a creative life of their own.
17:37And does that make you feel happy?
17:38Do you feel a certain...
17:40Like, do you feel a certain sense of satisfaction that you have so many millions of careers that,
17:44you know, that you can hold the purse strings off or just, you know, their careers off in general?
17:49More than a power, I think it's God's benevolence that he's given me a chance to be a part of a journey of other people's life.
17:58You know, see, at times, I always believe this, you know.
18:01A company that makes millionaires is a better company than that makes millions.
18:08You know?
18:09Well, that's well said.
18:10Well done.
18:10So, you know, when you...
18:12So, a company that has people who are growing
18:15and a company that sees that people are well looked after,
18:19that's why people say, why don't you end your old shows?
18:21I say, no.
18:23How many homes are running with that?
18:25New shows will have people, but there will be some people who will be out of work.
18:28And it's a responsibility that the company takes on.
18:30Like Mukesh Ambani's one interview I did.
18:33A real entrepreneur is not somebody who finds their own talent,
18:36but finds the vision and the possibility to see somebody else rise in life.
18:42And I think that's a brilliant line he said.
18:44I think that's very well said, and I think that's the only way to be.
18:47I think that has been the mantra of your success.
18:50And keep going.
18:51You go, girl, more power to you.
18:53On that note, I'm going to take a break.
18:54Go, girl, go.
18:55We are behind you.
18:56You have three men, strong, stalwart men, good-looking, handsome men behind you.
19:01Ekta, what more do you need?
19:02Thank you so much.
19:03And I'm going to take a break.
19:04All right.
19:05Ekta and the three hotties of Indian television.
19:06Stay tuned.
19:14Behind every successful man, there's a woman.
19:16In my case, tonight, behind a successful woman, there are three men.
19:20So, yes, we are back now.
19:22Hello and good evening and back to coffee with Karan.
19:24Now, you are the popular Jai Walia on your show, Kasam Se.
19:28Right.
19:28Which is now, when I was discussing with Ekta in the break, she was telling me that, you
19:33know, both Ronit and your characters were a product of a certain discussion she had with
19:37a team of writers.
19:37She wanted to bring on this very suave, sophisticated, fancy kind of man on Indian television.
19:42And first she came up with Ronit with that wonderful salt and pepper look.
19:45And then you came on as Jai Walia.
19:47So, this was a big thought.
19:49Yeah.
19:49We'll get to Hite next.
19:50He's the poor youngest part of this.
19:52Young boys are, with most women, young boys are the fantasy they have when they're much
19:57older.
19:58So, younger girls have always been older men.
20:01Yeah, he's playing 60 for the look.
20:04Yeah, now, of course, he's in the league.
20:06But the whole idea was that when we sat, we said, what kind of man would make any of
20:13us jhul or salve it or just make us think like, wow.
20:16My God, Ekta, you're sounding quite, I'm getting a little worried with these looks here.
20:21Karan, this is exactly what I want to do after this.
20:25I thought, you know.
20:26I just basically, we sat and we discussed it and we said, we need a guy who's going
20:31to stand up there and make half the nation rule.
20:34Now, there's something I want to tell you what Indian TV is all about.
20:37I mean, there's something.
20:37On film, it's usually men you idolize and women you fantasize.
20:42On TV, it's just the opposite.
20:44Oh, it's really?
20:45You fantasize about men and idolize women.
20:47So, it's like, because women watch TV.
20:49Yeah, because your women now are Tulsi and Parvati.
20:51You can't fantasize about them.
20:52Absolutely.
20:52I mean, no offense to both of them.
20:54They're wonderful women.
20:55They're beautiful.
20:56But men don't watch TV.
20:58Look at him.
20:59He's laughing.
20:59She'll kill you, Tulsi.
21:00Yeah, you wait.
21:02You had it.
21:02So, you're dead, Dad.
21:09Okay.
21:10Yes, continue.
21:11Basically, women watch TV and I don't expect women to fantasize about Tulsi and Parvati.
21:16So, they're going to be sitting and actually looking at their problems and identifying with
21:20them and seeing the way they solve it and idolizing them for that.
21:23But the men, they really go home when they've got these boring husbands.
21:28They go into their bedrooms and they go, oh, God, what if I had a husband like Jay Valiya
21:31or Mr. Bhaja?
21:33And if it's a much older woman, then she'll tell her family.
21:37I want a Karan in my life.
21:39A Karan, but actually, you know.
21:41You know what she's very very kind.
21:44And Jay Valiya is a product of two big industrial men, which I find very amusing.
21:51Jay Valiya is a combination of.
21:53In the younger men, somebody who's like slightly bigger built but good looking is Jay Valiya.
21:59Jay Valiya.
22:00And a grown-up man who I think really looks hot is Vijay Valiya.
22:06So, Jay Valiya is a combination of Jay Valiya and Vijay Valiya.
22:10Lovely.
22:11This is the best combination.
22:13How was I supposed to prepare for this?
22:16You just want to imagine a thousand crore turnover in your head and walk the sets.
22:21Yeah, that's fabulous.
22:22Living life's a good time.
22:23And the salt and pepper glamorous look comes from where?
22:26Mr. Gere.
22:27Oh, you're Richard Gere of Indianapolis.
22:29That was a brief given to you?
22:31Yeah.
22:31That was a brief given to him.
22:32We tried all kinds of products which...
22:34I said, I want salt and pepper.
22:36Yeah, we spent on my first day of the shoot, I still remember it vividly, seven hours.
22:41Nivedita Basu, who's her right hand, creative.
22:44My best associate I can have.
22:46She and me, we spent about seven hours on the set trying various products.
22:50And I told her, if I don't get Mr. Gere, maybe you're dead.
22:54And she was like, okay, man, I'll get his hair right.
22:56I'll get the salt and pepper look.
22:57All of you, what's interesting is all three of you have married actresses.
23:01All three of you have married people who have been working on television as well.
23:04Yes.
23:04In fact, my wife Neelam did her show called Kali Re.
23:10And you married Gautami?
23:11Yes.
23:12Though Ekta tried to cause much confusion between the both of you, but she didn't emerge victorious there.
23:18You finally did marry her.
23:19You see, I can't find fault with Ekta because there was a large segment of people we knew
23:24who were very against Gautami and me coming together.
23:27Because you have to understand, I was a very, very different person at then.
23:30People who knew me.
23:30You keep saying different me.
23:31What do you mean by that?
23:32Casanova.
23:33He mentioned...
23:36We're on national television here, but yes.
23:38So you were all over the place.
23:39And I don't understand.
23:40And they didn't want Gautami to get stuck with somebody who won't be...
23:42And Gautami was just like picture perfect.
23:45She's a perfect girl.
23:46To see.
23:47Exactly.
23:47In real life.
23:48In real life.
23:48She really is.
23:50She really is.
23:50You don't get scared marrying a Tulsi.
23:52I'd bet very intimidated.
23:53I don't know.
23:53You know...
23:54No, she's really a very strong woman.
23:56And she's really nice.
23:57And I had told Sunita Menon, there's no way he'll marry her.
24:01And Sunita said, believe me...
24:02But you do know that good girls like naughty boys.
24:05I mean, that is just the way it always is.
24:09So are you a good boy, Hiten?
24:11Yes.
24:12I am...
24:12You're looking very good like that, you know.
24:15Somewhere, you know.
24:16Yeah.
24:16He's a really good boy.
24:17He's a really good boy.
24:18He's a really good boy.
24:19And he's a very, very good husband.
24:22Which is a rare breed.
24:23They're dinosaurs, no?
24:24Yeah.
24:24They don't really exist.
24:26Good husbands are dinosaurs.
24:27By the way, Ram laughed.
24:32I'm still trying.
24:33I'm still trying.
24:34But I think I'm making it wrong.
24:35So now, when it comes to like a big show, Eta, like, you know, when you have...
24:40How competitive and ambitious is the atmosphere?
24:42When you have like a big show hitting prime time like KBC, you know, when it's coming and
24:46there's a lot of advertising, a lot of hype and hysteria.
24:49Is there something you're doing on another channel or on another show to combat it?
24:54Do you do that?
24:54Is it a conscious effort?
24:55Absolutely.
24:57I'm just going to say that with a straight walk.
24:59Like, you have to compete with the TRPs of another big show.
25:02We just have to.
25:03You have to.
25:04There's no two ways about it.
25:04Leaps happen.
25:05People get gray hair.
25:07Some get the gray hair off at that time.
25:09Yeah.
25:09But it has to be.
25:10So you either leap or you kill a character, bring somebody back, you'll do something.
25:13Always.
25:14Always.
25:15It's a must.
25:16When is the last time you felt compelled to do something like this?
25:20Was it because of the new KBC?
25:21Almost every year.
25:24So then you'd go for this 20-year leap or a 10-year leap.
25:27And how many of you have leaped how many times now?
25:29You're in one leap.
25:30One leap.
25:31And you?
25:31I'm about to.
25:32You're about to leap.
25:33In a couple of days, in fact.
25:34You're good.
25:34So by the time the show is on air, we're already.
25:36Ah, yes, absolutely.
25:37You have leaped.
25:37Absolutely.
25:38Yes.
25:38And you've leaped.
25:41Leaps and bounds.
25:42Many.
25:43Leaps and bounds, you've kept keeping.
25:46All right.
25:46So you're technically how old?
25:4790.
25:48In one of the shows.
25:49We will not go into that.
25:50You can say 20 years younger than Ba.
25:55Which is 240.
25:57I mean, we're going to ask you, which I don't know.
25:58Ba is like a monument.
25:59She's not a person.
26:00She's not a person.
26:01She's like Ajanta Irola.
26:02Medical marvel.
26:03I think she'll be immortal.
26:04She'll just be like, you know, she'll be lying in tone one day and we'll still be watching her.
26:08I don't think she can ever kill her.
26:09I can't kill her.
26:09Because if you kill her, I think it'll be a national modeling.
26:11Yeah, and people are not minding.
26:12How can you kill Ba.
26:13But she's 90.
26:14No, no, so what?
26:15She's not 90, darling.
26:16She's too much a part.
26:1790 is still a believable age.
26:19She's 240, I'm telling you.
26:21I'm telling you, she's a cave.
26:22She's not a person.
26:24All right.
26:25On that note, we are going to take a break.
26:27We don't know how old Ba is, but the world doesn't care.
26:29They still want to watch her.
26:30Stay tuned.
26:31I should stop keeping long titles, you know.
26:45I tell you, both of us have to stop doing this.
26:48And the K bit.
26:49And the K, but you'll never give that up, no?
26:51We are K Karmic cousins.
26:53Yeah, we are totally Karmic cousins with a K.
26:55All right, okay.
26:56Now we have approached the Grand Rapid Fire Round.
27:00And this time we have something interesting that we're going to do.
27:03Dekta, you have to understand this process because it's slightly more complicated than
27:06it normally is.
27:08Each of them will be asking you the questions, not me.
27:11Now, they are the ones doing it.
27:12I'm out of this.
27:13I'm completely out of it.
27:15Each one of them ask you five, five questions.
27:17All right.
27:21And then each one of them and me judge you out of 10 marks.
27:25You have to get a minimum of 32 out of 40 because there are four of us marking you.
27:30For you to win the coffee hamper.
27:32You do know that she pays our checks, right?
27:35I do know that.
27:36But I'll tell you, my dear, she will not know who gave her what because we are not writing
27:41her names on those mark sheets.
27:42So you will fill in a number and give them to me.
27:45I will tabulate it and announce the final total, what Ekta gets out of 40.
27:48So she doesn't know what you've given, what Ronit's given, what Hiten's given.
27:51She has no idea what I've given included.
27:53She has no idea.
27:55But we just thought we'd just make it a little more fun this time.
27:57So we're going to start with you, Hiten, go.
27:59Your timer starts now.
28:00Complete the sentence.
28:02The next big trend on Indian television will be?
28:06Family soaps.
28:07Next trend is family soaps?
28:09The trend continues.
28:11Okay.
28:13Bravo.
28:13The iconic Indian woman achiever that you admire.
28:17Sonia Gandhi.
28:18If you were in place of Shilpa Shetty in the Big Brother house and Jade Goody made racist
28:24remarks about you, you would?
28:26I'd make her feel extremely, extremely bad about being white.
28:30You know, I mean, she wouldn't really like to be white ever again.
28:35She painted yellow.
28:37She's a baby.
28:37Absolutely, baby.
28:38All right.
28:38Okay.
28:39All right.
28:40Shahid Kareena, John Bipasha, Salman Katharina, Abhishek Ash.
28:46If the four real-life Bollywood couples took part in a reality dance show like Nachabalye,
28:51who do you think would win?
28:53Who would come last?
28:54I think John Bipasha would win.
29:00And...
29:01Who will come last, Dalek?
29:04Salman Katharina.
29:05Did come last?
29:06All right.
29:07Okay.
29:08Which of your actors or actresses comes to mind when I say, first, television, Amitabh Bachchan?
29:16Ranit Roy.
29:19The Shah Rukh Khan of Daily Soaps?
29:21Um, I would say, um, Iqbal Khan.
29:28The sexy hunk Hrithik Roshan of TV.
29:32Ram.
29:33Ten on ten.
29:36That's right.
29:37Because you may not look like Hrithik Roshan, but you're the most sexy man on TV today.
29:41I love you too.
29:43Sir, no losing weight now.
29:45You're on.
29:46All right.
29:47Back to you then.
29:47Which person comes to your mind when I say, TV's wild child Salman Khan?
29:55Um, Rajiv Khandirwal.
29:59Oh, God.
30:00You don't like Salman?
30:01You just threw out poor Rajiv.
30:03No, I like Salman.
30:04Um, Rajiv, I won't comment on.
30:06All right.
30:07Okay.
30:07No comments.
30:08Moving on.
30:08Yes.
30:09Uh, Abhi Ash of Television.

30:16The Ekta of Bollywood.
30:19Ekta of Bollywood.
30:20I would, I don't know if it's a compliment or not, but I would say Karan Johar.
30:24Hmm.
30:24Ten on ten, darling.
30:25I'd love to be the Ekta of anything.
30:28All right.
30:28I complete him with Ram now.
30:31I'm totally with Ram there.
30:32I love you.
30:33I'd love to be Ekta.
30:34Darling, if I had what you have at your bank, I'd just be anything of yours.
30:38Mujhe bula lo.
30:39Mein vahen bhaet jaun ga.
30:41I said, you're the only woman in this world I'll marry.
30:45Dibi, when are we getting married?
30:47And just see, but we'll be the talk of the season when we do.
30:49Ah, wait.
30:51All right.
30:51Back to you, Ethan.
30:52Yeah.
30:53The one aspect of your behavior that you think would change most if you adopted Kandigiri?
30:59I think I would, I don't know, if I adopted Kandigiri, I would do long walks.
31:11Okay.
31:12Your one-line comment on the following.
31:14Reality television.
31:16Interesting, but sporadic.
31:20KBC.
31:23Huge.
31:25Cricketers endorsing products.
31:27I would say, uninspiring today.
31:31I agree.
31:32Play your game, baby.
31:33I agree.
31:34Do what you're doing.
31:35Leave shampoo to the guys.
31:36Absolutely.
31:37The stars.
31:38And lastly, talent hunts for singers.
31:43A way for people to express themselves.
31:47Innovative.
31:48Cool.

33:12All right.
33:13Are we done with all the five then?
33:14Yes.
33:14Now, choices.
33:15Choices.
33:15Very quickly, Ektaav, with all the three men.
33:17Ranit or Ram, the better actor?
33:21Ram.
33:23All right.
33:23Okay.
33:24Karan Johar, Suraj Bhajatya, or Aditya Chopra.
33:29The filmmaker would be most successful on Primetime.
33:32Karan Johar.
33:34Definitely.
33:35It's a day.

34:12You're going to kill me?
34:15I never...
34:16Why are you asking these kind of questions?
34:17I'm sorry.
34:18Yeah, you told me to be like you.
34:19Yeah.
34:20No, I never did.
34:21KBC with Shah Rukh or KBC with Mr. Bachchan?
34:25Since I'm a younger audience with Shah Rukh.
34:28Ouch.
34:29Okay.
34:30Hiten or Ranit the better actor?
34:33I said Ranit was the best.
34:36Doom 2.
34:38Kank, Munna Bhai, Rang De Basanti or Viva?
34:41The one film this year which you think would have made a super hit TV series?
34:46Viva.
34:46Viva.
34:47100 plus, 200 plus or more?
34:49How old is Bach?
34:51Give us an exact age.
34:54So we can celebrate her birthday.
34:57She's bordering around 200 plus.
35:00She's 200 plus.
35:01Yeah.
35:02All right.
35:02God bless immortality.
35:04I tell you.
35:04And God bless Bach.
35:07God bless Indian television by having Bach.
35:09Yeah.
35:09God bless Indian television by having Bach.
35:11All right.
35:12We're going to tabulate the scores, Ekta, out of 10 and announce the final total.
35:16Now, if you cross 32 out of 40, you win the hamper.
35:19So we're going to find out what exactly the score is, but in the next segment.
35:22Stay tuned and you're going to find out if Ekta Kapoor wins the coffee with Karan, coffee hamper.
35:34All right.
35:35We just finished the rapid fire round and we have with us the scoreboard from the three men.
35:42And the total, and of course, my 10 points that I have given, not 10, but I've given you
35:48marks out of 10.
35:50I was going to, I just, that was not what I meant to say.
35:54But I have the total.
35:55And as I said, you had to get at least 32 out of 40 to win the coffee hamper.
36:01And I want to tell you, your final score is 36.5 out of 40.
36:07So you win the hamper.
36:08Thank you so much.
36:09That means you averaged at over nine points each person.
36:13So that's fabulous.
36:14Guys, all of you got a raise.
36:17Finally.
36:18What will I get?
36:19I don't give you so many high points.
36:21Give me the job.
36:22Give me the raise.
36:23Here, Ekta.
36:25Oh, will the boys help me?
36:26All three of you have given them.
36:28Please give it to her.
36:29Thank you so much, boys.
36:32And you win the hamper.
36:34Lovely, lovely.
36:35All right.
36:36Okay, aren't you excited, Ekta?
36:37Of course.
36:37There's a lot of chocolate chicken soup.
36:39Wow.
36:39But it's time now.
36:40If the whole world wants to know who Ekta Kapoor is getting married, when is she getting
36:43married, and everybody keeps talking about it.
36:45So we decided to do a little poll of our own to find out, especially on this show with
36:49the three hot men of Indian television.
36:51I thought it would only suffice if we kind of do a poll like this.
36:54So have a look and see what people have to say.
37:03It's very difficult.
37:05If it's so high, it becomes very difficult to see her own match.
37:10Any guy that Ekta gets married to should be one part Marlboro man.
37:18What's samajdar?
37:20A guy with a lot of intelligence to match her.
37:22I think he should be really naughty like her.
37:25Emotion honne chahiyeh, jazbat honne chahiyeh usmeh.
37:28One part Johnny Bravo, one part Sean Connery.
37:31Very presentable enough.
37:32Lovable hona chahiyeh, good looking hona chahiyeh.
37:35Sense of humor, of course, very important.
37:37One part Chengiz Khan to keep her in control.
37:40The guy has to be a very good listener.
37:43He should be someone who can, I think, control her temper.
37:48And bardash karnne ki usmeh shakti bhot honi chahi.
37:49Oh, really?
37:51Jo, television pe seh iki character te pas hai.
37:54Or wo character ekamal.
37:56Oh.
37:56I think that it's the toughest thing to find a guy for her.
37:59I think Ekta should marry a superman because only a superman can keep Ekta happy.
38:03She should look in for somebody who has got more enthusiasm, more entrepreneurship,
38:07more dynamism because she is bestowed with the best of qualities in her.
38:10I think Ekta should get married more than once.
38:14Because if she truly believes in the serials that she produces,
38:17none of the heroines get married only once.
38:20She should be getting married a couple of times, I think.
38:22The Kapoor should get married, but I am not sure whether she should make her husband
38:25watch all the programs that she makes.
38:27I think Karan cuts a balance.
38:40Because anybody else, they're not really strong as compared to their women.
38:47I think Sujal Garewal is the best match for Ekta Kapoor.
38:50Ekta, you should not get married to anybody from your serials.
38:54It's that going to entangle you a lot more.
38:56And we'll be into trouble if you get married to one of the characters from your serials.
39:00I agree, dude.
39:00So please stay away from them.
39:02Ekta should get married to Mihir Virani first.
39:05Then I think it should be Rahul Bajaj.
39:07Ekta Kapoor ko Jaiwale ke saath mein shadi karne chake kuchko lagta hai,
39:10He might be a bit older for her, I'm not sure.
39:17Karan Virani would be the most erisible man.
39:19In Kapoor ko Jaiwale ke saath mein shadi karne chake kuchko lagta hai,
39:23kubhi bhi jinda hotte hai, kubhi bhi mer jate hai.
39:25He'll be for his for his sake, he'll be for his sake.
39:30Ekta should get married to Sujal, because I love Sujal.
39:33Ekta should get married to a person like Mihir.
39:36Both of them would definitely be a case of opposites attract,
39:39because Mihir is too nice.
39:41So Ekta would add some spice in his life.
39:45And Ekta, as we all know, is a very temperamental sort of person.
39:48So Mihir would calm her down a little.
39:51So both would be very nice for each other.
39:52I think she should get married to Jaiwale.
39:56He is very charming and they'll make a cute pair.
40:04Karan Virani would not be a bad choice.
40:07She should marry somebody like Karan Virani,
40:09because he's the ideal son, the ideal husband and the ideal father.
40:14Ideal, ideal toh Sumit bhi hai.
40:17Aur mujhe bhi teen saal,
40:18I mean Sumit ki kirdaar ko star pariwar mein teen saal,
40:22haan, teen saal lagataa reward mila hai.
40:24So ideal pati toh as a Sumit bhi hai.
40:26If Ekta should get married to any character in the series,
40:28it should be to mine.
40:30Because I'm the only one who has all the spunk and all the guts
40:33and all the tooth spunk.
40:35And that's pretty much the kind of person she is.
40:37So she should get married to Trishna.
40:39And if she says yes, then Trishna can undergo a sex change.
40:42But I will not do the red lipstick, even if I'm a man.
40:45Since all the other three are married,
40:48the best guy she should get married to would be Karan Johar,
40:51sitting there right now.
40:52I think it's the best option.
40:53How did you like our fantastic survey?
40:57I think I'm going to take all these suggestions
40:59into deep consideration.
41:02I'd really like to say,
41:03I feel that whatever they've said is very true
41:07because we are all products of her imagination.
41:13So I guess all of us put together,
41:15all the characters and their qualities put together
41:18would really make, you know, the ideal man in Ikka.
41:22Would you want to know who I would really want to marry
41:25if he was not married?
41:26Please.
41:27It would be, I mean, it's too much of an expectation.
41:30But I would have loved to marry Mukesh Ambani.
41:33You'd marry Mukesh Ambani?
41:34I think the man is enterprising.
41:38And he's such a family man, rare combination.
41:41That's what I'd love you on.
41:42I mean, the combination of being a family man
41:44and somebody who's so innovative, enterprising and outfair.
41:47Oh, God, so poor Nita.
41:49No, no, I'm the ape.
41:50That if there was not a Nita in Mukesh's life,
41:54it would be Aishra.
41:55There would be Aishra.
41:57Oh, God, imagine Reliance and Balaji.
42:00What a great combination, my God.
42:02Not really.
42:02I would want to marry only Mr. Mukesh Ambani,
42:05not the company.
42:06Ah, okay.
42:10All right, all right.
42:11On that note, that was just...
42:12So you just rejected me, Karan?
42:13No, darling, I would never...
42:14You know I'm always there.
42:15You can always have an affair with me.
42:18When we take a leap in our lives, we'll meet.
42:22But listen, thank you so much.
42:23It's been such a fun episode.
42:24Thank you for taking the time.
42:26Thank you for being on the show again.
42:27And thank you for just being as wonderful as you always are.
42:30No matter what anyone says about your work or you, darling,
42:32you rock.
42:33And always remember and believe that.
42:34Karan, thank you so much.
42:36I always will love you.
42:38And thank you, Rone.
42:39Thank you very much.
42:40Thank you for being on the show.
42:41Thanks for having me.
42:42No, no, thank you, Rone.
42:43Thank you, Hiten.
42:43Thank you for taking the time out.
42:45And thank you for being on the show.
42:46But before you go, I have a mug right next to you
42:48that all of you have to sign.
42:49It's with the Pernam City.
43:13I'll see you next time.
