00:00:03Jingle bell swing and the jingle bell ring
00:00:07Snowing and glowing up...
00:00:09Marjorie? Marjorie?
00:00:11Oh! Morning, Helen!
00:00:13Christmas begins!
00:00:15Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
00:00:18Jingle bell diamond, jingle bell time
00:00:22Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square
00:00:26In the frosty air
00:00:29What a bright time
00:00:31I could do with a nice cup of tea after that.
00:00:34I've never seen the town centre so busy.
00:00:40Oh, I'm sorry, Helen. I didn't know there was a team meeting.
00:00:43Oh, you're fine, Marjorie. I was just making a small announcement.
00:00:46You'll never believe it.
00:00:47She's only taking us away from the office Christmas party.
00:00:49It's been a tough old year
00:00:51and I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me get through it.
00:00:55Guess what?
00:00:56We're only going to the ruddy Caribbean.
00:00:58Oh, my goodness gracious me!
00:01:00Oh, although it does mean missing the away game of Colchester.
00:01:03What's that matter?
00:01:04It's the Caribbean!
00:01:06What a way to celebrate...
00:01:07And you've properly budgeted for it, Mum?
00:01:09Yes, Neil. It's all accounted for.
00:01:11Quite sure?
00:01:13You know, I've always wanted to visit that part of the world.
00:01:16Oh, um, not you, Marjorie, love. It's senior staff only. I am so sorry. I should have said.
00:01:25Oh, of course. I'm sorry, Helen. Silly old me. Duh.
00:01:31Oh, I, I probably should get that.
00:01:37We are so at going bikini shopping afterwards.
00:01:40Oh, I might treat yourself to some speed or was...
00:01:44Dougdale's branded merchandise, Marjorie speaking.
00:01:48But the whole two thousand dollars are calling...
00:01:51Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
00:01:53Please see me, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny...
00:01:56Please I've just put you through to a last.
00:01:58All the way out, we're all in the world.
00:02:00Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
00:02:02Sorrow the ancient clues and terror...
00:02:05Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
00:02:07See the days in the wind before us, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:02:12Strike the harp and join the chorus, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:02:16Call me, bear me, bear me, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:02:21While I tell you, you're tight treasure, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:02:26See the song for the wind and terror, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:02:31See the song for the wind and terror, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-
00:03:01Happy Christmas.
00:03:07Who's it?
00:03:20Hi, Marjorie.
00:03:22I just want to let you know that there's a Commissioner Patterson alive.
00:03:27It's a serious situation over here.
00:03:29Give him access to anything he needs.
00:03:33I've told the police here that we're going to cooperate fully.
00:03:35Will do, Helen.
00:03:36Oh, I hear him now.
00:03:38We'll speak later.
00:03:39Okay.
00:03:42You must be the policeman from the Caribbean.
00:03:45Commissioner Patterson, is it?
00:03:47Selwyn Patterson.
00:03:49So, what has actually happened out there?
00:03:52The police will call to your colleague's holiday villa,
00:03:55where, I'm sorry to say, a man was found, shot dead, murdered.
00:04:04Morning, Miss Borde.
00:04:06Morning, Seb.
00:04:07It's a final rehearsal for the Nativity this evening.
00:04:10I wish you all the best, Anne.
00:04:12Good luck to you, little king people.
00:04:14Yes, I.
00:04:15Yes.
00:04:16Yes.
00:04:17Allez, let's go.
00:04:18Good morning, Sarge.
00:04:28Morning, Seb.
00:04:29Got a card from Darlene.
00:04:31Oh.
00:04:31Looks like she won't make it back for Christmas.
00:04:34Her auntie's still sick, so she's staying on Montserrat.
00:04:37Nothing in the post for the inspector, you know, from Antica.
00:04:41His brother, you mean?
00:04:44It's been three months.
00:04:45I guess it's like a lot, you know?
00:04:48I mean, getting a letter from a breadie you never knew you had.
00:04:52Might take some time.
00:04:53I just feel sorry for him.
00:04:55He keeps saying he's fine about it, but I don't think he is.
00:05:01Where is D.I. Wilson?
00:05:02Rehearsing.
00:05:03Oh, yes.
00:05:04Oh, I am so jealous.
00:05:06He must be hyped up to wear that costume, huh?
00:05:09I bet he is.
00:05:11I'm really not happy about this.
00:05:13Why not, Mervyn?
00:05:14Because I look like a ninny.
00:05:16No, you don't.
00:05:18You look very authentic.
00:05:22I just don't think the boots are helping.
00:05:28Look, with all due respect, Miss Baudet,
00:05:29I just think it'd be better off finding somebody else for this.
00:05:33You know, somebody less me.
00:05:35Mervyn, it has always been the commissioner.
00:05:38Carries up this task for me.
00:05:40With him gone.
00:05:41Inspector.
00:05:43Great.
00:05:44Yes, sir.
00:05:45You look cool, man.
00:05:46Not another word.
00:05:47That's awesome.
00:05:49Could we have a chat, sir?
00:05:50We have a murder to attend.
00:05:58For real?
00:06:01Well, that's that, then.
00:06:03I've got word to do.
00:06:04Conversation over.
00:06:05Conversation paused.
00:06:06Sorry, Catherine.
00:06:07Come on, let's go.
00:06:10Um, Inspector.
00:06:13You think maybe you should change first?
00:06:15Victim's name is Darian St. Jules.
00:06:43He's a local fisherman, lives half a mile up the coast.
00:06:46Right.
00:06:48The guests staying here are from the UK.
00:06:49They all say they haven't a clue who he is
00:06:52or what he was doing here.
00:06:54But clearly, someone must have shot him and left him there.
00:06:57Right.
00:06:59No sign of the gun, but paramedics are saying
00:07:02with the bullets still lodged in the victim's shoulder,
00:07:04cause of death was possibly from internal bleeding.
00:07:08Right.
00:07:10And what about you, Inspector?
00:07:11Anything of interest?
00:07:13Well, he certainly liked his aftershave.
00:07:16Have a sniff.
00:07:22I guess that's pretty strong.
00:07:24I don't know if it's cause of his work.
00:07:26You know, slapped on the old cologne
00:07:27to cover the smell of fish.
00:07:29I know a big man in Tootin did the same thing.
00:07:31And that's what bothers you the most?
00:07:33The fact that the victim used a bit too much aftershave?
00:07:36Actually, what's bothering me the most
00:07:39is what's written on the palm of his left hand?
00:07:44Blitzen.
00:07:45Like the reindeer.
00:07:47It's the only one I can think of.
00:07:49Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donna, Blitzen.
00:07:54And Rudolf.
00:07:56Thank you, Officer Rose.
00:08:00The thing seems fresh.
00:08:02Which means he wrote it in the last 12 hours or so.
00:08:05And then not long after, he was shot.
00:08:07Well, it is Christmas, sir.
00:08:10Could just be a coincidence.
00:08:16We have no idea who this guy is
00:08:18or what he's doing in our villa.
00:08:19So how can we know why he wrote the name
00:08:21of one of Santa's reindeer on his hand?
00:08:22I don't know.
00:08:23I'm just asking the question.
00:08:25Not a problem, is it?
00:08:27No.
00:08:28No, of course not.
00:08:30Let's start with you telling me
00:08:31what you're doing here on St. Marie.
00:08:33Well, we flew here for our office Christmas party.
00:08:35It wasn't cheap.
00:08:37We were having the time of our lives.
00:08:43Light a beat.
00:08:45Light a beat.
00:08:46No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:08:48No!
00:08:50Oh, my God.
00:08:50Everyone get in.
00:08:57Maybe talk us through the events of last night.
00:09:00Yeah, what happened exactly?
00:09:02We said we'd take it easy for our last night.
00:09:04Then we got back here and carried on drinking.
00:09:17Yeah, it looks like quite a party you had.
00:09:18Yeah, done right it was.
00:09:22Sorry, that's not appropriate.
00:09:23The rum out here, um, it's stronger than we used to.
00:09:29Oh!
00:09:30What happens above?
00:09:31One more straight away and no one has a last night.
00:09:34Come on, it's our last night!
00:09:35And what time did the party end?
00:09:39I haven't got a clue, mate, to be honest.
00:09:41Yeah, it's all a little bit hazy.
00:09:42I really don't remember very much.
00:09:44You lot are lightweight, man.
00:09:47I remember everything.
00:09:50Helen, you and me put Neil to bed about midnight.
00:09:53I'm sure I wasn't that bad.
00:09:54Oh, you so, uh...
00:09:56Oh, he's always had a low tolerance.
00:09:59Mum?
00:09:59Sorry, love.
00:10:02Can we just...
00:10:04Yeah, Helen, you went to bed as well.
00:10:07Me and you kept on it till about half three.
00:10:12Yeah, but you were so cute.
00:10:13You were dead to the world by then.
00:10:15So, uh, I left you asleep in the hammock.
00:10:18And then what?
00:10:23Oh, and then, um, the taxi for the airport woke me up.
00:10:27Everyone!
00:10:29Wake up!
00:10:30Wake up!
00:10:32That's when I saw him.
00:10:34I thought he was asleep at first.
00:10:36But when I got closer, I saw the blood.
00:10:38Someone call an ambulance!
00:10:40Now!
00:10:42You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
00:10:46You didn't hear the gunshot?
00:10:46Well, yeah, yeah, you'd have thought.
00:10:48But, well, it's like Helen said, you know, the room out here, it's, uh...
00:10:51Stronger than you used to.
00:10:53Inspector!
00:10:56That's something you should see.
00:10:59This is the only security camera footage from the villa.
00:11:03Footage is from this morning, outside the front door.
00:11:05The victim arrives at 5.32am, heads inside.
00:11:09The door was unlocked, so he let himself in.
00:11:12After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
00:11:14So, the only way in or out is from the front.
00:11:17And the drop at the back is too steep for access.
00:11:20So, it's got to be one of these four who shot Darren in St. Jules.
00:11:24Which means the gun that they used must still be here.
00:11:27But they're all saying they've never met him before.
00:11:29So, why would one of them kill a total stranger?
00:11:33Hello, can I help you?
00:11:47Have you come to check in?
00:11:49The name's Helen Dugdale.
00:11:50Of course, one moment, please.
00:11:53I can't believe they're not letting us fly home.
00:11:56This police overreach is what it is.
00:11:59So much for doing something different.
00:12:02Should have just gone to the Red Lion like last year.
00:12:04None of this would have happened.
00:12:07Girl, do you think there's something Helen's not telling us?
00:12:11She's been on edge ever since the police arrived.
00:12:22So, why did Darren go to that villa at 5.30 in the morning?
00:12:25Hmm.
00:12:26Let's see what we find at his house.
00:12:33How are you getting on, sir?
00:12:35Well, I haven't found anything that connects our victim to the suspects.
00:12:39But I have found this.
00:12:40The victim's aftershave.
00:12:42Really?
00:12:42This again?
00:12:43It's different to the one he was wearing at the crime scene.
00:12:45Here, have a sniff.
00:12:50I haven't found any others here.
00:12:51And there certainly wasn't one on his person.
00:12:53So, why did he smell different to the brand of aftershave that he owned?
00:13:11So, I searched the suspects, the villa, and Saron and Eros.
00:13:16And there was no bond.
00:13:17No, it has to be there.
00:13:19No one left the villa after the victim was shot.
00:13:21So, the weapon has to be there somewhere.
00:13:22Yeah, no, I totally get the logic, Inspector.
00:13:25But, it ain't there?
00:13:26For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
00:13:28But that doesn't make any sense.
00:13:29So, sorry.
00:13:30Excuse me.
00:13:31Hello?
00:13:32Yes!
00:13:33Well, this is a strange one.
00:13:35We've got four people suspected of shooting a man they don't know with a gun they don't have.
00:13:39Let's start working through the victim's laptop, see what's on there.
00:13:42We need to find that gun.
00:13:46What?
00:13:46Actually, sir, it's the nativity service if you'd forgotten.
00:13:50Are you serious?
00:13:51And, we promised Catherine we'd make sure you get there.
00:13:55Look, we've got a murder case to solve, in case you hadn't noticed.
00:13:59And I haven't got time for play acting with a bunch of kids at some school nativity.
00:14:02Then you better find the time, Inspector.
00:14:04Why is she...
00:14:09Good evening to you, Inspector.
00:14:11Officer Curtis, what's a pleasant surprise?
00:14:14My niece is performing in the nativity tonight.
00:14:18And word has got back to me that they might not have a narrator.
00:14:21Because the man who is supposed to be doing it is being a grumpy goose about the whole thing.
00:14:26A grumpy...
00:14:27Now, listen...
00:14:28No, you listen to me.
00:14:29You are doing it.
00:14:31End of.
00:14:31So, get your backside down to that church and man up.
00:14:50You know, I never did like this sort of thing.
00:14:53The nativity, the carol services.
00:14:56Right.
00:14:56Is there anything about Christmas you do like, sir?
00:15:00No, not really.
00:15:01Oh, hang on.
00:15:01Yeah.
00:15:02The Great Escape.
00:15:04The what?
00:15:05The Great Escape.
00:15:06The movie.
00:15:07It was on telly every Christmas.
00:15:09You know, with the motorcycle stunt.
00:15:11And the cooler.
00:15:12The dirt down the trousers.
00:15:16No, I'd give up.
00:15:17Me too.
00:15:18Nothing with waiting.
00:15:19Ready when you are.
00:15:22Right.
00:15:22Here we go then.
00:15:28I guess.
00:15:30You okay?
00:15:50Okay.
00:15:53Okay then.
00:15:54A long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary.
00:16:04She was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.
00:16:07I understand you didn't want to wear a costume, but did you really have to do it in the heart?
00:16:13And then one day, an angel called Gabriel came to Mary and said to her.
00:16:31Sorry, it was mine.
00:16:33I knew it was going to be his.
00:16:40Sir.
00:16:42Sir.
00:16:44It's someone calling from Antigua.
00:16:47It could be...
00:16:48Your brother.
00:16:48Listen, sorry, everyone.
00:16:53I need to take this, yeah?
00:17:00Well, I think one of us shoot her.
00:17:02Don't worry, Miss Baudet.
00:17:04Officer Sebastian rose to the rescue.
00:17:07Yes, my little king people.
00:17:09Wow, go on.
00:17:11Woo!
00:17:12So, a long, long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman, a very nice woman.
00:17:20Her name was Mary.
00:17:21She was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.
00:17:32Melvin Wilson speaking.
00:17:34Mr. Wilson, it's Tyrese at Carribe Phone Network.
00:17:37I just noticed your contract's coming up in the new year, and I thought we could have a chat about upgrading your phone.
00:17:46Mr. Wilson, are you still there?
00:17:48Yeah, I'm here.
00:17:50No, no upgrade, thanks.
00:17:52Are you sure about that, because we've got some...
00:17:54It's not...
00:17:55The first Noel, the angels did say,
00:18:16What's the third Noel, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord, the Lord

00:21:07commissioner you do know what time it is over here right half past three in the morning
00:21:31but as i've abandoned a good friend's wedding to travel to swindon and help you out okay fair
00:21:37dues how can i help the bullet you recovered from your victim have you had the ballistics report back
00:21:42on it yet yeah it was a 45 caliber most likely fired from a pistol and did you find the weapon no
00:21:48why because i'm currently looking at a 0.45 caliber pistol in a desk drawer in swindon
00:21:58gun it can't be the same one can it
00:22:04morning sir morning inspector this can't be right it just can't be what's going on commissioner found a
00:22:27gun locked in the desk drawer of an ex-employee called ashley sims in the dugdale's offices back
00:22:32in the uk what local forensic lab fast tracked it and they say that is the gun that fired the bullet
00:22:37that killed darren st jules look security footage shows that no one touched that drawer since the
00:22:43shooting wait so how was that gun used to shoot darren st jules on this island if the same gun was
00:22:48locked in a draw five thousand miles away i know right it makes no sense
00:22:53we need to speak to helen dugdale
00:22:57hello if you're in there can you open the door please
00:23:11there's something you need to see
00:23:22i guess i want to say sorry
00:23:27i know it's not enough and they won't change how you feel about me but i do mean it
00:23:34i don't know why i keep doing this
00:23:40blow everything up
00:23:45but um this is why i've come here
00:23:50to get away
00:23:51try and understand why i hurt people that's actually the way that i do
00:24:05she stole from me from the company how much five hundred thousand pounds ouch my husband keith
00:24:13dugdale's was his company until he passed away at the start of the year from a heart attack i'm sorry to
00:24:18hear that that's when i took over the reins i really wanted to make it work and it was around
00:24:25that time that we had a position to fill and you gave the job to miss sims i knew she had a past that
00:24:31she'd been to prison but keith always believed in giving people a second chance and i wanted to honor
00:24:35that what miss sims let you down even a year's past and i've already lost half a million pounds
00:24:42did you report ashley to the police i was too embarrassed so i i hired someone to find out
00:24:49where she sent the email from and that video she recorded that was sent from this island yes
00:24:56okay so what does any of this have to do with darian st jules the man i hired discovered that
00:25:01darian had rented a holiday let to ashley that's why i came here to try and get my money back i made
00:25:06sure our villa wasn't far from darian's house so it would be easy to go and visit him so you were lying
00:25:11when you told us you didn't know darian did you meet with him yes a few days ago he confirmed that
00:25:18ashley had rented this little place he has down on the beach that's so so she was definitely here
00:25:25she'd arrived a few months ago at the start of october he still had all the paperwork but he said that
00:25:31she moved on a few days ago and he didn't know where so what was darian doing turning up at your
00:25:36villa in the early hours yesterday i don't know i really don't how much do the others know about
00:25:43this nothing they don't know anything they think they're on a works do not even your son no not even
00:25:48neil so then the only person who knew darian and therefore wanted him killed was you no i swear i didn't
00:25:55i can see how this looks i didn't shoot him i don't think i need to take this
00:26:08commissioner you got something inspector i've searched ashley simms flat and emailed you over
00:26:14some photographs i'm afraid there is little of use to your investigation i think she cleared out her
00:26:19flat before she flew to the caribbean okay thanks anyway sir no if that is everything i'm going to
00:26:26catch my train and enjoy the rest of my christmas yeah um you have a good one sir and you inspector and you
00:26:33thank you thank you for your help miss quarts oh i didn't do anything really and you're nothing if

00:26:55they've rented a cottage up in the um yorkshire dales oh it's lovely up there so i'm told i i bet
00:27:03i'm flying solo this christmas i mean that's how it's been since mum passed just me myself and i
00:27:10sorry i really oh no no no i i rather enjoy it actually you know there's no family arguments i can

00:27:53so immigration confirmed ashley sims arrived on the island two months ago but they have no record of
00:28:17ever ever leaving so in theory she's still here okay officer rose i want you to check the harbors
00:28:27see if anyone matching ashley's description was taken to one of the other islands in the last few
00:28:30days ashley harbor last few days got you check the hotels holiday rentals guest houses on the island
00:28:35hotels rentals guest houses got you you need to do whatever it takes to find it you understand
00:28:40cool totally getting you right now inspector i guess that means we're working christmas day then
00:28:44obviously it's a murder investigation and we need to find out who did it right only that's a lot of
00:28:51work for seb to do by himself over christmas well my mother has a whole church thing going on and
00:28:56everybody else is busy so it's cool there you go sorted
00:29:03thanks seb no worries see you in a bit
00:29:07i'll let my parents know i won't be flying home this evening appreciate it
00:29:12ashley sims aside we still don't have a scooby how the killer made the gun they shot darian with
00:29:17disappear from that villa then reappear in a locked desk drawer back in the uk
00:29:24and that blitzen what's that about unless it has nothing to do with darian's murder sir and it
00:29:30is just a cold you don't believe in coincidences i mean in what circumstance does someone write the
00:29:37name of one of sansa's reindeer on the palm of the hand are you doing all right sir after last night
00:29:47look if solomon doesn't want to get in touch i'm cool with that well ds thomas i'd rather we didn't

00:35:22i'll be right with you
00:35:33our financial checks show that two days ago you wired one hundred thousand pounds from this island
00:35:38to your bank account back in england no he didn't
00:35:46what you want to tell us where you got that money from
00:35:50what did you do neil yes neil what did you do i followed you why you were acting so weird
00:36:00a few days ago when you went off by yourself i knew that it had to be about the money that
00:36:05ashley had taken i'm sorry i couldn't understand why you didn't tell me and i know you were just
00:36:09trying to protect me mom i was worried about you i was just trying to help
00:36:13so i waited until the guy darian had left doors unlocked so i let myself in there wasn't anything
00:36:22i could find until i found an old biscuit tin full of money and what did you think when you opened
00:36:29the sensor 100 000 pounds in cash inside well i still think that it was money that belonged to the
00:36:35company why else would this local fisherman have that much money in sterling in his house and that's
00:36:41why you took it because it was money that actually had stolen from us from mum
00:36:47and i don't want to see her lose everything
00:36:50well she'd already lost my dad
00:36:58all right okay so fast forward to the morning you're due to leave the island yeah and our victim
00:37:06turns up at 5 30. we've been trying to work out why he went there that morning
00:37:11but what if he realized that you stole from him and came to confront you about it no
00:37:17on my life i i didn't even see him that morning this aftershave it's yours right rivage mystique
00:37:24yeah why this is the exact same aftershave darian was wearing the morning of the murder right
00:37:32you're not suggesting that this is evidence i shot him why would i kill someone and then
00:37:36spray him with my own aftershave
00:37:42darian definitely smelt of this when we found him but why
00:37:48what if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide you know a bit like a bin man
00:37:54yeah but what
00:37:59neil's right it's not enough
00:38:00some christmas this is oh come here give him a hug oh hang on i'm sorry

00:41:24still squeeze us in for christmas day lunch but it's her last sitting so we have to go now are we still
00:41:30asking ourselves how was darian shot with a bullet fired from a gun locked in a drawer in swindon at

00:44:30so
00:45:02Inspector, everything all right?
00:45:04I'm feeling bad, sir, about messing up your Christmas.
00:45:07I'm sorry you couldn't get to spend it with your daughter.
00:45:09It's not your fault.
00:45:10If anyone's to blame, it's the British Transport System,
00:45:13which I am told is not uncommon.
00:45:16I mean, I'd like to say you get used to it by belying.
00:45:20Just a minute.
00:45:32Is that the sea?
00:45:36I can hear.
00:45:37Yeah.
00:45:38I'm at the shack.
00:45:40It's beautiful out here.
00:45:42It's a really clear night.
00:45:43But then all nights are like that here, aren't they?
00:45:46The moon here is a little more grey than I remember it in St. Marie.
00:45:50I'm just wondering if I made a mistake staying on in St. Marie.
00:46:02Why?
00:46:04Because I know I'm not good when I put myself on the line.
00:46:08I feel like I'm just hanging around, waiting.
00:46:11Your brother?
00:46:12Yeah.
00:46:14Yeah.
00:46:18I don't think he wants to get in touch.
00:46:23I'm sorry, it's not really your problem anymore, is it?
00:46:26Whether I stay or go.
00:46:27It still feels like it is.
00:46:33Inspector.
00:46:34If you are not sure what to do,
00:46:36the only advice I can offer is that you put your trust in that island.
00:46:43I did for most of my life.
00:46:47And in return,
00:46:49it delivered me true happiness.
00:46:55If St. Marie won't bring your brother to you,
00:46:59then perhaps it will bring you someone or something else.
00:47:09Be patient.
00:47:11Yeah, well,
00:47:13you know patience isn't my forte, right?
00:47:15I know.
00:47:17But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
00:47:19Might I suggest
00:47:20you focus on solving that case,
00:47:23you have.
00:47:26You're missed here,
00:47:28you know.
00:47:33Good night, Inspector.
00:47:35Good night,
00:48:00Blitzen, why Blitzen?
00:48:08Officer Rose?
00:48:11Inspector?
00:48:12What's up?
00:48:14I wanted to come and say I'm sorry for spending all that money you don't have in your budget.
00:48:18So, I wanted to pay it back.
00:48:22There's $322.86 in there, which I took from a saver.
00:48:30From the savings.
00:48:31I mean, it's all my savings, but that's cool.
00:48:34And if you deduct $20 for my wages each month, you should be paid back in about two years, I reckon.
00:48:43Officer Rose, you've got a good heart.
00:48:48Anyone ever tell you that?
00:48:49Well, my auntie, like all the time, you know.
00:48:56Take this.
00:48:57You don't have to pay anything back.
00:49:00We'll find it in the budget.
00:49:02And there's no need to apologise, alright?
00:49:05In fact, I should apologise for blazing at you like that.
00:49:09What you did was, erm, was really good work.
00:49:14Anyway, come on.
00:49:15I've got a new lead.
00:49:16Let's go and wake DS Thomas up.
00:49:19He can't keep doing this.
00:49:27Happy Boxing Day, DS Thomas.
00:49:30Listen, erm, I want to apologise for losing it and ruining Christmas.
00:49:38I'll make it up to you.
00:49:40I promise.
00:49:43And you were right about me taking it out on you because of Solomon.
00:49:50I just really wanted it, you know?
00:49:55I'm sorry too.
00:49:58Good morning, Sarge.
00:50:00The inspector tell you the good news yet?
00:50:02He's only going to make a big breakthrough in the case, which is a big relief.
00:50:06Because I was drawing a blank.
00:50:08You have tea?
00:50:11So I've been going through Darien St. Jules' phone records.
00:50:14And he phoned someone the day before he was murdered.
00:50:17A friend of his called Trishawn King.
00:50:19Now, he was over on Montserrat for Christmas.
00:50:22So I asked Darlene to speak with him.
00:50:25Darlene?
00:50:25Last night?
00:50:26Yeah.
00:50:27And how was she with that?
00:50:28Er, you know, she was...
00:50:30She was cool with it.
00:50:32Inspector, it's Christmas Day.
00:50:35What in God's name do you think you're doing?
00:50:41Anyway, it turned out Darien feared for his life.
00:50:44And he was asking Trishawn where he can get hold of a gun.
00:50:47For protection.
00:50:48He thought someone was going to kill him.
00:50:51Did he say who?
00:50:52Hmm.
00:50:53But he did say he was caught up in something he shouldn't have.
00:50:55And get this.
00:50:56He thought the woman he was trying to help had been murdered.
00:50:59Now I'm caught up in it all.
00:51:01And now he was worried that he was going to suffer the same fate.
00:51:04Whoa, wait.
00:51:05Darien told Trishawn he thought Ashley Sims was murdered?
00:51:09But it would explain why no one's seen her the last few days.
00:51:11So then, if this is true, that means that whoever killed Ashley Sims probably also murdered Darien St. Jude.
00:51:18To silence him.
00:51:19So what we need to start looking for now is anyone who had a reason to kill Ashley Sims.
00:51:24We're both Helen and Neil Dugdale to start with.
00:51:27Ashley stole half a million pounds from their company.
00:51:30And there's someone else as well.
00:51:37We've been looking at your phone records.
00:51:40And these, Miss Hickson, are text messages from you to Ashley Sims just before she came out here.
00:51:46You'll regret ever meeting me.
00:51:48Stay away from my boyfriend or else I'm not afraid to hurt you.
00:51:53The list goes on.
00:51:55Care to explain?
00:51:57They had a thing, right?
00:52:00Gavin and Ashley had a thing behind my back.
00:52:03Or sort of.
00:52:05Sort of?
00:52:07Yeah, like it wasn't like a real thing.
00:52:09Like they never really got together, but...
00:52:11But he liked her.
00:52:13Yeah.
00:52:15God knows why.
00:52:17She was weird.
00:52:18But I think Gav liked that about her.
00:52:20And he called things off between us.
00:52:22And that's when I started warning her off.
00:52:26Guess I just got a bit carried away.
00:52:29I just...
00:52:31I just didn't want to lose him.
00:52:33And you didn't.
00:52:34Now that Ashley's conveniently disappeared,
00:52:37you've got Gavin to yourself now, haven't you?
00:52:39What?
00:52:40Is that what you think?
00:52:42That I killed her?
00:52:43No, I wouldn't.
00:52:47I didn't.
00:52:49It'll be about Gavin.
00:52:51We need to tell him what we know.
00:52:54But Ashley called things off with Gav.
00:52:57Why would I kill her?
00:52:58Inspector.
00:52:59You need to hear the truth.
00:53:01What?
00:53:02And I'm afraid you're not going to get that from her.
00:53:04No disrespect, Karen.
00:53:06Neil, come on then.
00:53:07What are you saying?
00:53:09Whatever she's told you,
00:53:10it's ten times worse.
00:53:11Neil, what are you saying?
00:53:12Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:53:13You've had your chance.
00:53:14Go on.
00:53:15He had a thing for Ashley.
00:53:17Is that it?
00:53:19We already know.
00:53:20No, it was more than that.
00:53:21Gavin was obsessed.
00:53:23When Ashley said they couldn't see each other anymore,
00:53:25he had to take time off work.
00:53:26And I've seen the posters you've been putting up.
00:53:28If Ashley's gone missing,
00:53:29then I'm telling you,
00:53:30it'll have something to do with Gavin.
00:53:32Inspector!
00:53:34Someone's just broken into the villa where Darion was shut.
00:53:41I love you.
00:53:42He of Chad.
00:53:43He's that he's gone missing.
00:53:44According to him,
00:53:45he's still a bit.
00:53:46I'm not going to do with Gavin.
00:53:47I'm just kidding.
00:53:48He's
00:53:49the man.
00:53:51He's the man.
00:53:52What is he?
00:53:55He's the man.
00:53:56What?
00:53:57There he is.
00:53:58There he is.
00:53:59He's the man.
00:53:59He's the man.
00:54:00He's he is.
00:54:01P Benedney?
00:54:02He's the man.
00:54:03He'll have his hands.
00:54:05He's the man.
00:54:06Oh my God.
00:54:07I'm the man.
00:54:08He'll have our guys.
00:54:10I'm the man.
00:54:10He will have his hands.
00:54:10I'm the man.
00:54:11Mr. Bradbury, this doesn't look good at all.
00:54:27But then I don't think you need me to tell you that.
00:54:32You want to start by telling us what we're going to find in that pool you've just emptied?
00:54:36And we know it's not the gun used to kill Darian St. Jules,
00:54:38because that's currently sitting in a police station somewhere in Swindon.
00:54:41So what's down there?
00:54:42Why have you come back to the crime scene, Gavin? What's so important?
00:54:46Inspector! Found something!
00:54:49What is it?
00:54:50A bullet! One that's been fired!
00:54:57Why is there a bullet in the pool, Gav?
00:55:00It's like... keepsake.
00:55:05Something to remember Ashley by.
00:55:08A bullet?
00:55:11There are other things that I've got of hers as well, like...
00:55:15More like normal things.
00:55:17I'm really not interested in those, funny enough.
00:55:21Ashley, she's...
00:55:22She's not like anyone I've ever met before.
00:55:24It was exciting, being around her.
00:55:27And her life was so different to mine.
00:55:30Yeah, I hear that. The bullet.
00:55:32Yeah.
00:55:32She has a gun.
00:55:36She was looking after it as a favour for someone that she knew from prison.
00:55:40And she... well...
00:55:42We went out to the woods one day and she let me fire it.
00:55:46It was amazing, right?
00:55:47It was...
00:55:47You know, like, exhilarating.
00:55:50And I went and got one of the bullets.
00:55:51You know, like I said, that I would keep it with me to remind me of her.
00:55:55And they say romance is dead.
00:55:56So, why did it end up in the pool?
00:56:01I panicked.
00:56:02When there was that dead guy and Neil called the police.
00:56:06I was worried that if you found it, you'd think it was me that shot him.
00:56:09So I took it out and I was wondering what to do and...
00:56:12I dropped it.
00:56:16It fell in the pool.
00:56:18And the more you were sniffing around, the more I started to worry that you'd find it.
00:56:21So I came back and I...
00:56:22So you loved Ashley, then?
00:56:28Yeah, I guess, yeah.
00:56:31Must have really hurt when she ended things.
00:56:35Gavin, we believe Ashley Sims was murdered on this island in the last few days.
00:56:41What? No. What? If she can't be?
00:56:43I'm kind of wondering if maybe you did it.
00:56:45Me?
00:56:47Why would I kill Ashley?
00:56:49Because you couldn't have her.
00:56:50And it hurt like hell.
00:56:51No, no, no, no. You've got this wrong.
00:56:52I didn't kill her.
00:56:54I owe that man.
00:56:56You seem a bit edgy, Gavin.
00:56:59Is there something you aren't telling us?
00:57:01There's nothing.
00:57:03Really, there is nothing.
00:57:11Paradise Court Hotel, please.
00:57:13What is it that he's not saying?
00:57:26Hey, this is Ashley's phone. You know what to do.
00:57:29Ashley, it's me.
00:57:31We need to talk. I'm worried about you.
00:57:33The police have been asking questions and I think they know about us, so...
00:57:37Just let me know what you want me to do, yeah?
00:57:40Please call me back.
00:57:42I love you.
00:57:42You all right, sir?
00:57:56You seem a bit tense.
00:57:58I just can't work this one out.
00:57:59I mean, we've got one potential murder victim whose body we haven't found.
00:58:04Another murder victim whose body we have found.
00:58:07But that murder weapon was locked in a desk drawer on the other side of the world when that murder took place.
00:58:12I mean, where do we even start?
00:58:13Well, sounds like you need to go get a little shoulder rope, you know?
00:58:16Release some of that tension.
00:58:19No, you all right, Officer Rose.
00:58:20This guy again.
00:58:25Listen, mate, I told you before, I'm not interested in upgrading to another phone, so stop calling me, eh?
00:58:31Is that Mervyn Wilson?
00:58:33Yeah, it's still Mervyn Wilson and I'm still not interested.
00:58:36It's me, Solomon.
00:58:38Your brother.
00:58:45Are you there, Mervyn?
00:58:49Mervyn?
00:58:50Yes.
00:58:52Yes, he's here.
00:58:53Don't hang up.
00:59:06Solomon.
00:59:07It's Mervyn.
00:59:09Yeah, it's always, you know that.
00:59:12Look, mate, I'm sorry.
00:59:14I just wasn't expecting your call.
00:59:16Yeah, I know.
00:59:17I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch, but...
00:59:20It was, you know.
00:59:23No, no, no, mate.
00:59:24I totally understand, yeah?
00:59:25I mean, it's a process, right?
00:59:28But, hey, you're calling now, aren't you?
00:59:31Yeah, man.
00:59:32It's a process.
00:59:32But, I'm glad to be calling now.
00:59:38Are you still there?
00:59:41Mervyn?
00:59:42Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
00:59:44Um, look, Solomon, I'm really, really sorry to do this to you, and I am so glad you called
00:59:54and that we're finally speaking, and I really, really want us to talk again, but right now,
01:00:01there's something I need to do, yeah?
01:00:04Yeah, man, no problem.
01:00:05Go tell a tune.
01:00:08That was quick.
01:00:09Officer Rose, that billboard, you did that, right?
01:00:12Yes, sir, I did.
01:00:14But, you should already have the invoice for that.
01:00:16It's not going to cost any extra.
01:00:17No, no, no, I don't care about the cost.
01:00:19It was worth every penny.
01:00:20Come, come look.
01:00:20You see, all along, we've been looking at Ashley's footage on phone screens and laptops, yeah?
01:00:32What?
01:00:33They were too small.
01:00:34I don't understand.
01:00:37You see where Ashley is?
01:00:38This is a still from the video she made, and in the background, there's a ship passing by.
01:00:43Now, before, that was just a speck, but now you've blown it up.
01:00:47Look at it.
01:00:49What about the ship?
01:00:50Well, look at what it's called.
01:00:54Blitzen.
01:00:55Blitzen.
01:00:57Yeah?
01:00:57Now, we know.
01:01:00Oh, Officer Rose, if you were so tall, I'd kiss you.
01:01:03Why would Darian write the name of that ship on his hands?
01:01:07Well, he obviously saw the footage himself, and then, um, he saw something in it.
01:01:12But what?
01:01:19Blitzen.
01:01:19It's like she's vanished into thin air.
01:01:21It's why I've come here.
01:01:22I thought I was helping someone.
01:01:24You know what?
01:01:25I think I'm starting to work out what went down here.
01:01:29But I need to make a phone call.
01:01:32And you need to get onto airport security.
01:01:34Come on.
01:01:34All right, mate.
01:01:37Much appreciated.
01:01:38Cheers.
01:01:39Cheers.
01:01:39Cheers.
01:01:39Wow.
01:01:41What?
01:01:42Wow.
01:01:43So, that ship behind Ashley Sims, it's owned by a Scandinavian container shipping company.
01:01:51Now, we know from the information on that footage, Ashley recorded it on the 4th of October, right?
01:01:56Right.
01:01:56Well, check this.
01:01:58The Blitzen was passing by the south coast of England on the 4th of October.
01:02:02Thousands of miles from the Caribbean.
01:02:04So, Ashley recorded that video on a beach back in the UK.
01:02:08Which means she was never even here.
01:02:11Inspector, the airport just emailed over security camera footage the day Ashley Sims arrived on the island.
01:02:17Oh, wait, she was here?
01:02:20Thank you for a wonderful Christmas, Marjorie.
01:02:24Oh, it's been lovely.
01:02:25Let me give you a hand with that.
01:02:27Oh, don't be daft.
01:02:28You don't know where anything goes.
01:02:30Then you can tell me.
01:02:31It's the least I can do.
01:02:33Living room, sideboard drawer.
01:02:36Living room, sideboard drawer.
01:02:39Living room, sideboard drawer.
01:02:41But if Ashley Sims has never been here before, why do immigration records show that she has?
01:02:46Because someone else came pretending to be Ashley, presumably on a fake passport,
01:02:51and that someone paid Darian 100k to lie and say Ashley rented his property for the past few months.
01:02:56But why would they do that?
01:02:58To misdirect and confuse anyone looking for her.
01:03:00Because they'd already killed Ashley and taken the money.
01:03:04So one of our four suspects has been here three months previously?
01:03:06Which is why we're going through this footage, because it will show who was pretending to be Ashley Sims.
01:03:13There.
01:03:14Why didn't I see that before?
01:03:15Why I've come here to try and understand why I hurt people.
01:03:20No, it was more than that.
01:03:21Gavin was obsessed.
01:03:22Of course.
01:03:23After that, nobody is seen leaving or arriving.
01:03:26So it's got to be one of these four who shot Darian St. Jules.
01:03:30You were in the hammock when whatever happened, happened.
01:03:33You didn't hear the gunshot?
01:03:34It's like Helen said, you know, the room out here is stronger than you used to.
01:03:37What if there was another smell the killer was trying to hide?
01:03:40It makes perfect sense now.
01:03:43For definite, there's no gun at the villa.
01:03:45The commissioner found the gun locked in the desk drawer at Dugdale's offices back in the UK.
01:03:49We need to call the commissioner.
01:03:51The commissioner?
01:03:52Why?
01:03:52Because he's with the killer as we speak.
01:04:07Come on, sir.
01:04:08Pick up.
01:04:08And what about these ones?
01:04:14Same drawer.
01:04:15Oh.
01:04:21I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:04:24I've always wanted to go to the Caribbean.
01:04:54To St. Marie, you told me you always wanted to go to the Caribbean like you've never been.
01:05:03You were lying.
01:05:05No, no, Selwyn.
01:05:07It was you that went to St. Marie three months ago.
01:05:12If Ashley never went then, is she dead?
01:05:16Oh, I'm sorry.
01:05:18I didn't mean to.
01:05:20It just happened.
01:05:22Miss Gomes.
01:05:25I think you should put the knife down, no.
01:05:35Please.
01:05:35That video she made, it wasn't in the Caribbean, was it?
01:05:49Bournemouth.
01:05:52On a Sunday, she'd come to the seaside.
01:05:54She realized she'd made a mistake stealing that money, didn't she?
01:06:01Then she wanted to give the money back and send the video as an apology.
01:06:06I want to say sorry.
01:06:08I don't know why I keep doing this.
01:06:09Miss Simms didn't leave the country.
01:06:14I'd gone in to the office that day to deal with an order that had gone wrong.
01:06:18It wasn't my fault, but I was the one who had to go in and fix it.
01:06:24And then when I let myself in, I found Ashley there and I knew, I knew straight away what
01:06:30the money was.
01:06:31You overhear a lot when you sit at reception all day.
01:06:35I knew it was you.
01:06:36And I went to call the police.
01:06:39Wait, I'm giving the money back, Marjorie.
01:06:42Don't.
01:06:43Please.
01:06:44I'm calling the police now.
01:06:46Don't do this to me.
01:06:48You're not.
01:06:48And Ashley tried to stop me.
01:06:50I won't let you, Marjorie.
01:06:52Get off me.
01:06:53Pushed her off me and...
01:07:06And I wasn't even supposed to be in that day.
01:07:12But like I told you, nobody, nobody cares for me there.
01:07:17They just take me for granted and...
01:07:19You sold the money and thought, finally, you could take something back for yourself.
01:07:29All you had to do was dispose of the body.
01:07:35Where?
01:07:36In my back garden.
01:07:48And then you made a fake passport in Ashley's name.
01:07:51Oh, that wasn't hard, you know, with all the kit we've got in the office.
01:07:55You flew on that passport to St. Marie to make it look as if Miss Sims had run away
01:08:01to the other side of the world and rented her property there.
01:08:05For the last few months.
01:08:08You know, I really did want to go to the Caribbean.
01:08:13It's just that I never had the chance.
01:08:16Or the money.
01:08:17Until...
01:08:17And if you were going to misdirect from what really happened here, in Swindon, where the dead body was,
01:08:26then the farther away, the better.
01:08:29And no one would realise.
01:08:36Until things started to go wrong.
01:08:39You're saying Marjorie killed Ashley Sims?
01:08:52Our receptionist, that Marjorie?
01:08:54That Marjorie.
01:08:55Yes, Marjorie Dodds, the receptionist, killed Ashley Sims in England and made it look as if she ran away to the Caribbean with your 500k.
01:09:03Oh my, I did not see that coming.
01:09:06So which one of us shot the man found in our swimming pool?
01:09:09It wasn't any of you.
01:09:11But it had to be.
01:09:12You said so.
01:09:13No one else was here.
01:09:14Yeah, you're right.
01:09:15I did say that.
01:09:16But what I didn't know then was that Darian St. Jules wasn't shot at your villa.
01:09:21It just looked like he was.
01:09:23That's why no gunshot was heard, because there wasn't one.
01:09:27He'd already been shot.
01:09:32We know now from our colleague in the UK that Marjorie had paid Darian money.
01:09:38She came to the island three months ago on a forged passport and she gave him £100,000 to lie and cover if anyone ever came to the island asking after Ashley.
01:09:47She'd convinced him he was doing a favour for a very vulnerable friend of hers.
01:09:53But when you visited him a few days ago, Mrs. Dogdale, asking questions, mentioning the missing £500,000, Darian started to wonder what he'd gotten himself involved in.
01:10:03And when he re-watched that footage more closely, the footage of Ashley you'd shown him, as an experienced fisherman who knew the waters of St. Marie very well, something about it bothered him.
01:10:13Zooming in, he was able to read the name of the boat Blitzen.
01:10:16He knew this was not a St. Marie vessel.
01:10:20He worked out that the video of Ashley was actually shot in the UK.
01:10:26And having heard from you, Mrs. Dogdale, that Ashley went missing with £500,000 of your money,
01:10:32Darian started to realise that Ashley had never been to the island.
01:10:35He'd only ever met Marjorie.
01:10:36So he phoned Ms. Dodds, asking what was going on.
01:10:40We need to talk.
01:10:47Listen, Darian, you've got this all wrong.
01:10:51All throughout this case, we thought Darian's killer had to be one of you four.
01:10:56The one person we never suspected was Marjorie Dodds.
01:11:00It was all the way back in Swindon.
01:11:01Or so we thought.
01:11:02With Darian threatening to go to the police, Marjorie asked him to hang fire and she would fly out here and speak to him in person.
01:11:11Marjorie was here on this island at the exact same time we were.
01:11:14Yep.
01:11:14She arrived the night before Darian was shot and flew back to the UK the next morning.
01:11:19Unable to convince Darian to keep quiet and carry on with the lie, Marjorie started to grow desperate.
01:11:25Worried he'd tell the police.
01:11:27If I can give you more money, how much? Just tell me and I'll give it to you.
01:11:31We know Darian was searching around for a gun for self-protection.
01:11:36I just want you to leave.
01:11:38Now!
01:11:40He never expected Marjorie would use it against him.
01:11:47What are you doing? Put the gun down!
01:11:49What?
01:11:49After shooting Darian, Marjorie left and headed for the airport.
01:11:58Before getting back on the plane, arriving at Dugdale's offices just in time to meet with our very own Commissioner Patterson.
01:12:05If Marjorie shot Darian at his house, how did he end up at our villa?
01:12:09Marjorie thought she'd killed him.
01:12:11But what she didn't know when she left Darian's place was that he was still alive.
01:12:15It was the fact that he smelled so strongly of someone else's aftershave they helped us work it out.
01:12:24Neil's aftershave, in fact.
01:12:25We thought it was there to cover up another smell that we now know was antiseptic.
01:12:32The stuff used to clean up a wound?
01:12:34Because as soon as Marjorie quit the scene, Darian regained consciousness and patched himself up.
01:12:39As far as he was concerned, the bullet was just lodged in his shoulder.
01:12:42It wasn't life-threatening.
01:12:43So he put on a fresh t-shirt and headed off to the hospital to get it properly seen to.
01:12:49But on the way, it passed your villa, which was just half a mile down the road.
01:12:54And I think Darian intended to alert you to what had gone down.
01:12:58He stopped here to tell you the truth about Ashley and to warn you about what Marjorie had done.
01:13:03That's why he came here that morning.
01:13:05To tell you what your colleague had done to Ashley and in turn to him.
01:13:09To make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
01:13:12But what Darian didn't know was that his wound was worse than he thought.
01:13:17And he was bleeding internally.
01:13:19And so despite his brave effort to alert you all to the truth, he died.
01:13:25Here in your villa.
01:13:26But then someone proceeded to stage the scene as if he was shot in this villa.
01:13:35Didn't you, Mr Bradbury?
01:13:38Me?
01:13:39What?
01:13:40We're talking...
01:13:40No, of course not.
01:13:41No.
01:13:42And you did it because Ashley told you to.
01:13:45You're crazy.
01:13:46Ashley?
01:13:46I don't know what you're talking about.
01:13:50Let me have your phone.
01:13:55Gavin, please.
01:13:58It's okay.
01:14:01Unlock it.
01:14:02Bingo.
01:14:16Text messages seemingly from Ashley Sims from the moment she disappeared right up to today.
01:14:21But all of these were sent by Marjorie Dodds.
01:14:23Who kept Ashley's phone after she killed her.
01:14:29No, you know, you're wrong.
01:14:31She can't be...
01:14:31You've been texting her?
01:14:32No.
01:14:32This whole time?
01:14:33Karen, I'm sorry.
01:14:34Look, look.
01:14:34No, no.
01:14:35Karen!
01:14:37And here.
01:14:38Proof of what happened.
01:14:39Messages exchanged on the morning of Darian's death.
01:14:42Because despite what you told us, Gavin, you were actually the first to discover Darian's body.
01:14:46You knew who Darian was because Ashley had told you all about him.
01:14:54And so you contacted Ashley.
01:14:56Left a message telling her that Darian had turned up to the villa and died.
01:14:59And asking her what was going on.
01:15:02A few minutes later, she...
01:15:03Or rather, Marjorie texted back.
01:15:07See, Marjorie realized that if the police were called and found Darian with his wound patched up,
01:15:13they'd know he was shot somewhere else.
01:15:15And the trail would lead right back to her.
01:15:19So, she had to do two things.
01:15:21First, she texted you with instructions.
01:15:24Second, she had to clear up the real scene of the crime.
01:15:27Marjorie's confessed to her colleague in the UK that she quickly doubled back from the airport
01:15:30and returned to Darian's house before disposing of the gun and the t-shirt he was wearing when she shot him.
01:15:35Meanwhile, you moved the body outside to the swimming pool.
01:15:37There's also a mention here of that bullet you kept as a memento.
01:15:41In the text messages you sent to Ashley.
01:15:43Well, that's how Marjorie knew.
01:15:44So, as Ashley, she asked you to remove the bullet she killed Darian with and replace it with the one she knew you had.
01:15:52However, in your haste, you must have dropped the bullet you extracted into the swimming pool.
01:16:01But you knew you could come back and retrieve it later.
01:16:03Once you switched the bullets, the hard bit was over.
01:16:07You disposed of the dressing.
01:16:11Then made a hole in his t-shirt and let the blood around the wound soak in.
01:16:16So now, it looked like Darian had been shot after he entered the villa, not before.
01:16:21The last problem you had was getting rid of that antiseptic smell.
01:16:25Because that stuff lingers, right?
01:16:27And if the police noticed it, we'd certainly be asking, who cleaned up the wound and why?
01:16:32So you ran into the bathroom and got hold of some aftershave, kneels and doused him in it.
01:16:37So now all you had to do was pretend to be asleep when Mrs. Dogdale discovered the body.
01:16:42Gavin, we need to get to the airport. You've got to pack.
01:16:47Leaving us without a scooby, as to how a man was shot with a gun that was locked in a desk drawer 5,000 miles away in a Swindon warehouse.
01:16:54In the end, it wasn't just the police that Marjorie Dodds had duped.
01:16:58It was you as well, Gavin.
01:16:59You see, you thought you were helping the woman you loved.
01:17:02A woman you'd do anything for when you were actually helping her killer.
01:17:12Officer Rose.
01:17:23Sir Bradbury, I'm arresting on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
01:17:27You don't need to say anything.
01:17:28But it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question, something you later rely on in court.
01:17:33Anything you do say may be used as evidence.
01:17:35I need to know, why did you come to the train station that night and invite me into your home?
01:17:42I take that risk.
01:17:46Because I didn't want to spend Christmas on my own again.
01:17:54I'm so sorry I spoiled it all.
01:18:08Inspector.
01:18:10Commissioner.
01:18:10The arrest has been made.
01:18:13I'm pleased to see.
01:18:14Same here.
01:18:15We couldn't have done it without you, sir.
01:18:18Oh, and are you doing all right?
01:18:20Me?
01:18:21Yes, of course.
01:18:22I'm fine.
01:18:24Merry Christmas, sir.
01:18:30I'm doing fine.
01:18:31We regret to announce that the 10-15 to Leeds will be delayed due to a shortage of train staff.
01:18:49Chief Commissioner, it's Selwyn Patterson.
01:18:52And to you, and apologies for calling you during the holidays, but I wanted to know if you'd found my replacement as yet.
01:19:05And I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the road, if it's still vacant.
01:19:23The thing is, Harry, the classic Christmas day, Sunday roast lunch is all well and good.
01:19:40But when push comes to shove, the real culinary high point is the turkey and stuffing sarnie.
01:19:47Because my friend, in my humble opinion, it is one of the greatest delicacies known to mankind.
01:19:55Like bacon and eggs?
01:19:58Oh, DS Thomas, you're just in time.
01:20:00Come in, come in.
01:20:03Grab those for me, would you?
01:20:08So, uh, what is this about, sir?
01:20:12I promised I'd make up for spoiling Christmas day.
01:20:15And that is exactly what I'm doing.
01:20:17Come on.
01:20:21I don't know why I didn't think of this before.
01:20:24My front room on the beach.
01:20:25Is that a good idea, do you think?
01:20:28Yeah, why not?
01:20:29So we're watching something.
01:20:31We certainly are, DS Thomas.
01:20:32Not the...
01:20:33The great escape, yeah.
01:20:37Beers and butties, everyone.
01:20:40And thank you to our local mayor for letting me have the leftovers from the bar.
01:20:44And you've put it all between two slices of bread.
01:20:48Yeah.
01:20:49How English.
01:20:52Excited for this film, inspector.
01:20:53Sounds dope.
01:20:54Um, sir.
01:20:59Is this really your favourite thing about Christmas?
01:21:03Well, yeah.
01:21:04When I was a little boy, growing up, most times I didn't know where I was going to end up spending Christmas, right?
01:21:11With a foster family or in a care home.
01:21:15But wherever I ended up, the one constant every Christmas was this film.
01:21:22And it was a comfort to me.
01:21:24I bet that little boy never thought he'd be here, in the Caribbean, all these years later, watching that same film, surrounded by his friends.
01:21:37He certainly didn't care for him.
01:21:39He certainly didn't care for him.
01:21:43I bet that little boy never thought he'd be here.
01:21:45Yeah.
01:21:46So, um...
01:21:47To him.
01:21:49To him.
01:21:51Oh, what's the Arrangea?
01:21:52Yeah.
01:21:53Hey.
01:21:54Sure.
01:21:55OK, then.
01:21:56Showtime.
