00:00Chip's dream has always been a home in the mountains.
00:04The main house is here.
00:06Cottage number one and cottage number two.
00:09My daughter, Ella, the cottage is her little design project.
00:13This is what we ordered, and their new tile is lighter green.
00:17Oh, no.
00:18I was afraid to show you, but I knew I had to.
00:19I have to see it.
00:20Steve's going to be our connection point
00:22to get this project finished.
00:23I wanted to point out we had a visitor.
00:26Oh, my gosh.
00:27It's a bear.
00:28Any major hiccup, what are you thinking?
00:31The fireplace has me up at night because it's in zoning.
00:33That's not what it's supposed to look like.
00:35The biggest variable is the fireplace.
00:38Other than that, I feel like it's smooth sailing from here,
00:41but I shouldn't have said that out loud.
00:42Sounds like I get to keep both my fireplaces.
00:45You're going to jinx yourself?
00:46I don't want to jinx myself.
00:47Let's go.
00:49Oh, I love me somehow.
00:51What makes the mountain house so unique and perfect for our family is that it's got three
01:00distinct structures, and it finally feels like we're getting close on all of them.
01:04It's got the main house, which now has all of this beautiful wood that's blending perfectly.
01:09And then there's the large cottage, which is looking great with the new plaster that we added.
01:15And then the tiny cottage.
01:16This is the cottage that really spoke to Ella.
01:19So she's designed it.
01:21The paint, the wallpaper, all of that is done.
01:25Now it's just the little things that are going to really make it feel special.
01:28And today we're hoping to find some treasures at one of our favorite stores in Waco.
01:33LFC art, trays for your coffee table, a holder for your soap, you know, just like anything.
01:40I don't really use bar soap, but...
01:41Oh.
01:44Well, you should, since you can use this plate.
01:48It's like the ruffle, but do you think that's too much ruffle?
01:51No.
01:51We should change it up?
01:52As I'm saying both.
01:53Oh.
01:53So you have a pairing, you know?
01:55Mm-hmm.
01:56We found a lot of these really cool little treasures that are going to be perfect in Ella's space.
02:03Since Ella's starting college in a month, today is a really important day to just nail down
02:11all of the final details to this little cottage.
02:13So we taped out the exact measurements.
02:16I wanted Ella to be able to see how the selections that she chose for the space work in it.
02:21So we have a plan to work off of.
02:24What made you go green and blue?
02:25That's so fun and unexpected, and I love that.
02:28I want it to feel like cozy and a little bit darker.
02:31Yep.
02:31But then the kitchen to feel more like light.
02:33Yeah.
02:34So that's why we went with the cream.
02:36But then the green cabinets to tie it all together.
02:39You did a really good job.
02:41Ella has always been, from early on, very interested in design, but also just has that natural instinct.
02:48Now that we've got all the dimensions, this is a lot smaller than I remember.
02:55Here's your settee.
02:57Thoughts on lamp and rug.
02:58I like the lamp.
03:00Okay.
03:00I like the little ruffly things.
03:02Okay.
03:03But it might be a little bit tall.
03:05That's what I'm nervous about.
03:06I do wonder if we get a plan B for the lamp.
03:08Mm-hmm.
03:08Trying to find one that's more the scale of the settee.
03:11How do you like the settee?
03:13I like it.
03:13I think it looks good.
03:14And then with your fireplace here, the little nook that you created here, this may be a little big.
03:20Let's see what this looks like.
03:22I just love the legs.
03:26I think that's cute.
03:27She has found a way to make the space feel so dreamy and cozy.
03:32When it's a small space, you always hear people say, paint it light to make it bigger.
03:36Well, you chose to go dark.
03:38Mm-hmm.
03:38You kind of bucked the rules and said, but this is what I want.
03:43It's fun to see her come into her own style.
03:46On your first design project, you really stepped out to kind of just teach me something,
03:53which is like, don't be afraid in a tiny space to go big.
03:56Yes.
03:57And I love it because I feel like it's you.
03:59It's the cutest little space.
04:04And crew is going to love it.
04:05Mm-hmm.
04:17It's been about three weeks since our last trip to Colorado, and we've made a ton of progress.
04:22Most of the drywall is up.
04:23We started installing the oak paneling on the ceilings and the walls throughout the house.
04:31We added the trim in that primary bedroom, and the parquet floors went into the reading room.
04:38We're still waiting on those permits for the fireplaces, but we're really moving forward.
04:43It's just a fun day to be here and to see all of this activity.
04:47We got a lot going on, so get ready to enter the beehive.
04:51Oh, man.
04:52Oh, hi, guys.
04:52Yes.
04:53Hey, Steve.
04:54You made it home.
04:55Yes, sir.
04:55Home sweet home.
04:56Wait.
04:57How you doing?
04:57Good, good.
04:58This is good.
04:58Beautiful.
04:59Didn't it turn out sweet?
05:00Look at this wood.
05:01Turned out great, man.
05:02I knew I wanted to do like a special treatment in that foyer where it's kind of like, hey,
05:07you got a small space.
05:08I wanted to make it feel a little extra special, a little more intentional.
05:11So we did this like a stair step install with the wood.
05:15I can't believe it.
05:16I love it.
05:16Yeah.
05:17This feels special.
05:19How hard to do this downstairs.
05:21Like I know we didn't plan for it, but anywhere where I'm doing this wood, this is going to
05:26feel dramatic.
05:27Because even looking up, but knowing the walls will be like that, there's almost no dimension.
05:31Do you want to see what you're wanting to show us in here?
05:35So this is the tongue and groove that we were originally going to go with.
05:38Compare this to the stair step or the step entryway.
05:41I just feel like if you could add that little piece, it would just make it richer.
05:46So my question to Steve was, do we have enough material to accomplish this downstairs and in the
05:50main living and kitchen area?
05:52You just say you can or you can't and I'll just get over it.
05:54I can do it.
05:54How's that?
05:55Because the tongue and groove we can use as this.
05:58So we're not losing material and we're not going to have to buy new material.
06:02Perfect.
06:02Awesome.
06:03Steve is like so nice.
06:05Love this guy.
06:05He's like, not only do I have enough of material.
06:07Contractors are built to say no.
06:10You have to force a contractor to get to the yes.
06:13We'll get more bang for a buck doing it like this.
06:15Yeah.
06:16At the very beginning, I didn't know to say no.
06:19So when she asked for something, I said yes.
06:22And I was romantically involved with this woman.
06:24So in some ways, I was trying to impress her every step of the way.
06:28But it was like, Steve is just kind of like that.
06:30He's like, let's do it.
06:31I do want to see the reading nook.
06:35Well, that's dramatic.
06:37Ooh, Steve.
06:38This is that floor that you sent me.
06:40Yes.
06:41It's so beautiful.
06:43Wanted to get our eyes on the flooring in the little reading nook.
06:46It's this beautiful reclaimed parquet flooring.
06:48I really wanted to add texture and more story next to all the simpler paneling.
06:53Love this place.
06:54It's like, man, these old floors really look like you've stepped back in time.
06:57It does.
06:58Yeah.
06:58Well, let's go look at the primary.
06:59Yes, sir.
07:01So we're just about done with your primary.
07:03Oh, my gosh.
07:05Gorgeous.
07:06The trim in the primary, it felt like this beautiful reveal.
07:10I hadn't seen it fully installed.
07:12The goal was you see a little feminine.
07:14You see a little masculine detail.
07:16You've got the beams that are masculine, you have the wood that feels more textured,
07:19but then you have a little arch detail that makes it feel a little more cottage feminine.
07:23It's almost all masculine.
07:24You haven't seen it done.
07:26All you're looking at are the big shiny things.
07:28Are you going to screw it up from here out?
07:30Is that what you're trying to imply here?
07:31It's going to be a little balance of me and a little balance of the ginger right here.
07:34Joe, remember last time we were here, that artist was sitting there hand painting these beams.
07:38It was like unbelievable.
07:40He was so meticulous, giving it the illusion of cracks.
07:43This really was the least expensive option.
07:46Yeah.
07:46It just looks super sharp, man.
07:48And the space, super tiny.
07:50And we already knew it was going to be tiny, but it's going to work.
07:53This wide case opening gives you that illusion that it feels bigger.
07:56A hundred percent.
07:57It's awesome.
07:59So we have three samples on the deck for you guys to look at.
08:02And plus we have your window box up.
08:04Yep.
08:04The window box looks really good.
08:06This is obviously going to patina over time, but I think this color.
08:10Yeah.
08:10I'd go the darker route.
08:12Yeah.
08:12So there's your answer.
08:13Done.
08:14Signed.
08:14Easy.
08:14Okay.
08:15Darker than lighter.
08:16Bare fence.
08:17Bare fence.
08:18The artist who did all the steel work is going to design us a gate with metal,
08:22kind of going with the stair rail and like a normal man gate.
08:26If you think something simple and minimal.
08:28Those null pose at the end, we're going to go at 42 inches.
08:32We'll keep the bear out.
08:34Hey, Steve, what do you think about us building a fire pit down here by the river?
08:38It'd be fun to incorporate some little quirky patio sitting area.
08:42Oh, okay.
08:43I hope the bear gate works.
08:45And with this new fire pit, we have a lot to accomplish in the next six weeks,
08:49but it feels like everything's coming together.
08:51And we have a few more days here to finalize details for the rest of the house.
08:54Oh, good.
09:03I really wanted to see these cabinets.
09:05I know.
09:06They've gotten a lot done.
09:07They're so pretty.
09:08I love the vent hood.
09:10I love the scale.
09:12Today's the walkthrough of the kitchen.
09:13The more I started thinking about what this home would become,
09:16it was really around the kitchen.
09:18You know, 15 to 20 people could be here at one time.
09:21And so the existing kitchen was not conducive to what I knew we were wanting to create.
09:25The cabinets are halfway installed and they look very lodgy.
09:29Like I like the way that that's coming together.
09:31It's just finalizing the floor stain.
09:33Okay.
09:34That feels too orange, wondering if they can come in with a bleach.
09:38So it just feels a little more natural.
09:39Okay.
09:40Because it's making that look green.
09:43It is.
09:43The backsplash is about to get installed because we finally received those hand-painted tiles.
09:48This is the new batch of tile.
09:50They did try to eliminate some of the variation and darken.
09:54And I think that looks good.
09:55The color.
09:55So I think it turned out good.
09:56Okay.
09:57The tile has been one of those things where the color variation has been a bit of an issue,
10:02but I saw the tile today.
10:03It's beautiful.
10:04It's a lighter green, but it's still going to be pretty.
10:06I mean, I feel like it's going to still play off of what's happening on the outside of the windows.
10:09This was meant to be the kitchen all along.
10:11Oh, yeah.
10:11That's crazy.
10:12Moving that kitchen from where it was into this living room feels natural.
10:16I cannot wait to get to cooking in there and having that huge table right down the middle.
10:21Looks so nice with the windows.
10:24It's looking awesome.
10:26I know that when we leave, it's in good hands.
10:29When we get back to Texas, the biggest thing on my list is furniture.
10:32I really want to find the perfect dining table for the kitchen.
10:40We're back in Texas and I'm on the hunt for some big furniture pieces for the main house and round top.
10:44I love this little detail.
10:47I love finding older pieces with tons of character and giving them new lights.
10:52Mixing new stuff with antique accents creates great design moments for almost any project.
10:58Good news, we found a dining table.
11:02I think out of everything we were looking for, the table was the thing we thought we were going to have to custom build.
11:09It's going to be right down the center of the kitchen.
11:12It's like over 40 inches wide, which is perfect.
11:15So I think this will seat about 12 and we love it.
11:19It's been a long day and no other words to say except it's been very successful.
11:29So it's almost time for Ella to head off to college.
11:32We finished the styling plan for her cottage, but there's one last finishing touch I want to work on right before she leaves.
11:38I love this little shelf, Ella. The scallop I think is really sweet and I also know you love mugs and cups.
11:44So we needed a place to put those on the walls.
11:48Today, Ella and I are doing a little makeover on a piece that will go in the kitchen pantry in our cottage.
11:54We found this cute little vintage scallop shelf, but she didn't love the color or the finish.
11:58And so today we're painting it.
12:00This is where I want you to decide, do you want to paint it green, the color of your cabinets,
12:04or do you paint it cream, the color of the wall?
12:07I think I like the cream.
12:08Perfect.
12:12Ella, this is what I used to do the early days of Magnolia where I was painting everything and then sanding it.
12:18I loved that I could take an old piece and just put a little paint on it and a little,
12:23like I would say, the fairy dusting of the sanding and watching that fly off the shelves,
12:27because I think that's what people love. They love that story and that character.
12:31I don't want it to be perfect, so I'm just kind of coming in.
12:34I love that she's taking control and she has no problem telling me this is what she wants.
12:51I keep telling Chip, oh, she's going to come back and be my boss.
12:54I'm a little scared.
12:55I'll show you how I like to just sand some of the edges and to let that wood come through so
13:01it doesn't look like a piece someone just built for you.
13:03Okay.
13:04Once this is dry, you're going to come in and you're going to do it just like naturally.
13:09Like, hey, where would a distress be?
13:11Does that make sense?
13:11Uh-huh.
13:15Getting to do this with her right before she goes off to college feels really meaningful,
13:20especially on a project like this that does feel so much about family and being together.
13:25She's going off to college in one week. I'm going to be a freaking mess.
13:31Okay. I can't wait to see your art project, Ella.
13:35I'll see you soon.
13:36We're in Colorado for just a few days to check on everything one last time before we come back
13:46for staging. There's a lot of things happening on the cabins and then the main house.
13:51Right before we left Waco, we got some really good news from Steve.
13:55Yeah, I wanted to let you know we were able to finally receive the permit for the fireplace.
13:59That is awesome.
14:01So now all the masonry for the fireplaces can start going in,
14:04and the additional stair-step paneling I asked Steve for has gone up.
14:09In the small cottage, we added the arched openings Ella wanted for a more feminine feel to the space.
14:14And today, Chip is installing the cutie tile that Ella picked out.
14:19Ella left for college a week ago.
14:22Okay, here we are. We're doing all the finishing touches on Ella's dorm.
14:27Ella is done setting up her little coffee bar cart.
14:31Ella, how do you feel?
14:32Good.
14:33You feel good?
14:34Mm-hmm.
14:36Hi, Chip.
14:36Hi, babe.
14:37Oh, wow.
14:38That's cute.
14:39As I got to unpacking this, I'm not going to lie, I was a tad surprised about the color palette.
14:46I mean, literally maroon.
14:47It's burgundy.
14:48And A&M Aggies have no place in any project that I've ever been a part of in my life.
14:54I think these aren't ours.
14:56This is Ella's project.
14:57She wanted some color.
14:59Ella's tile selection, she's got maroon, baby blue mixed into this template.
15:05There's no Baylor green, there's no Baylor gold.
15:07She didn't go to Baylor University, her mom and I's alma mater.
15:11So he feels a little bit...
15:12Betrayed.
15:13Hi, Ella, do you have a second?
15:16Uh-huh.
15:17He's laying your tile.
15:18Okay.
15:19Do you like it?
15:19I think that looks good.
15:21But you know what's not right?
15:22Maroon tile, babe.
15:24Ella, for real.
15:28Yeah.
15:28It reminds him of a certain college, Ella.
15:30Ella, do you feel guilty at all?
15:33No, I like it.
15:36Oh, yeah, she's got to go.
15:37Oh, okay.
15:38I love you, Ella Rose.
15:39You did great.
15:39I'm only kidding.
15:40Wait, I want to show you one more thing.
15:41Ready?
15:42Look at your arches.
15:43Isn't that cute?
15:44I like those.
15:45I know.
15:46Hey, babe, tell Ella I'm sorry and to come back.
15:48Okay.
15:49Okay, Ellen, love you so much.
15:50Okay, love you.
15:52Bye.
15:52She had to eat her lunch.
15:56The fact that I'm getting to install some of the tile
15:59that she had a part in selecting is the sweet daddy moment.
16:02Here we are sending our little girl off to an entirely different city.
16:07And I feel proud.
16:08Jo doesn't want to hear it.
16:10She only wants to hear hold me.
16:12Hey, but I'm like getting better every day.
16:15This is like risky.
16:17Like, I'm glad that she took a couple of chances.
16:19I feel like I'm learning from her.
16:20Babe, I'm so proud of you both.
16:22Good job.
16:23Okay.
16:23All right, I'll get it done.
16:30Man, it's been a great week.
16:32A lot has been going on downstairs in the main house.
16:35The wallpaper is starting to go up in the bunk room.
16:38We're laying the tile in the bunk room bathroom.
16:43Down by the river, we've been working on that fire pit
16:46that I'm really excited about.
16:47And we're hustling to get the foundation for both of these fireplaces completed on the exterior.
16:55Wow.
16:56Look at this, y'all, coming together.
17:00That's massive.
17:01Yeah, this is amazing.
17:02It's a big, big, because we got two fireplaces.
17:05So they're working on the foundation on the outside for the main fireplaces in the house.
17:09It's crazy to think that they need that much support to carry a couple of fireplaces.
17:15So you're saying upstairs, it'll be more this side, and then downstairs, it's this side,
17:19which is hence the width.
17:20Yeah.
17:21We're actually going to angle the chimney flue under the deck and tie into this fireplace above.
17:26This is massive concrete right now.
17:28Wow.
17:28It looks like we're building a subway underneath this thing.
17:31Once we get this up, then we can go inside and do all the veneered stone and do the fire brick.
17:35You're good to go.
17:36Heck yeah.
17:37I'm going to go check out your hard work downstairs.
17:39Yeah, I've gone through the patio.
17:41So we decided to split up.
17:43Chip wanted to see what Steve had worked on down on the river with the fire pit,
17:46and then I wanted to check on the bunk room and then a few other spaces downstairs.
17:50Oh, this looks cute.
17:52It's quaint, which is what I wanted.
17:54Bunk beds, when are they coming in?
17:56Bunk beds can be here in about 11, 12 days.
17:58Golly.
17:59This is being made in the shop, and it's going to come assembled.
18:02So this wall will go wallpaper.
18:04We've got the green ceilings, and then you've got the entry into the bathroom.
18:07Yeah, everyone.
18:08Let me see that.
18:09Yep, and we'll get in there and we'll put in some shelving to fit.
18:12Look at the tile.
18:13So we started putting in your tile.
18:15It looks so cute.
18:16And the bathroom tile, one is something, again, a little more feminine,
18:19a little more charming and cottagey.
18:21I just think it's so sweet, and it's a nice balance to all the wood on the walls and even on the ceiling.
18:27I'd say the downstairs is about 80% there.
18:30So I just feel like I'm moving into every space and I can see the finish line.
18:35Oh, man, this looks great.
18:38Well done, Steve.
18:41This is the spot for sure.
18:44Joe is going to love it down here.
18:45It looks great.
18:46This is awesome.
18:47This fire pit and this awesome flagstone sitting area,
18:52I can see this being a really special addition to our family.
18:56I mean, when you think about memories and time spent with your family,
18:59it feels like there's going to be some special gains moments that occur on this property.
19:04And for Joe and I, we hope to facilitate a situation like that, you know?
19:11Amen.
19:12Sweet chip.
19:13I was just, it must have been the ragweed.
19:21I don't think I've processed the yellow thing.
19:23I know.
19:24And I may be processing it here as we speak for the first time.
19:27I'm about to cry too.
19:28Seeing the vision, seeing the future and planning for it,
19:32that's really been the best part of this whole project.
19:34And we can't wait to come back in a few weeks to finish bringing our dream to life.
19:48Okay, Mikey.
19:49I need your help.
19:50Hey.
19:51With the Colorado indoor plant vibe.
19:55Construction on the mountain house is almost finished.
19:57So I'm finalizing all the styling and everything we're going to be putting in the house.
20:03The thing I've kind of waited a little bit on are plants,
20:07which I wanted to source in Waco at one of my favorite greenhouses.
20:11I wanted Mikey to come with me today because she's the plant lady expert of America
20:16and Colorado and Texas.
20:19Right?
20:20Thanks.
20:20The vibe is like cottage meets mountain lodge.
20:23I think rubber plants feels good.
20:25I think anything that's trailing, anything that's sweet.
20:29You love Colorado.
20:30You love the vibes.
20:31I feel like you're going to be the best.
20:33This one, she knows Colorado pretty well.
20:36Mikey would work there in the summer.
20:38She'd also play guitar for money, you know, in Pearl.
20:43And maybe got a dollar.
20:45She and her friends would like go with mattresses.
20:47We would boulder and we'd take our mattress and it would be our crash pad.
20:52Can you imagine me doing that?
20:54A lot of plants actually adapt.
20:58Plants are just so sweet.
20:59Aren't they sweet?
21:00I love plants.
21:02My favorite thing though, Mikey, because you have not seen this place,
21:06there'll be room for all of us.
21:07We never get to actually vacation together.
21:09But I feel like because there's these little side cottages, we could all fit.
21:14The week that we go to put all the furniture in, you probably can't come because you have six kids.
21:20But if you can come, will you help me?
21:22With the plants?
21:23With the plants or to be our first official guest.
21:26I would love to.
21:27So if you want, I'll tell you the date.
21:28And like, this will be fun.
21:31I think this is a good start.
21:34This house just feels like Mikey's going to love it.
21:37So it feels right that she's going to be the first to see it in a few weeks.
21:47We finally finished all of our preparations in Waco.
21:50And over the last few weeks, trucks have made their way to Colorado for staging at the Mountain House.
21:55The distance has definitely been a challenge.
21:57But now that it's all ready to go, I can't wait to start bringing these spaces to life.
22:03So it's the first day of staging at the Mountain House.
22:05So exciting.
22:06I have been waiting for this day for, it feels like, a long time.
22:11This reminds me of every other fixer where we're moving into rooms that are still not completely
22:15finished.
22:16There's still so many workers in the house.
22:18What we're trying to do just for our minds is maybe try to finish one room at a time as far as
22:24getting everything hung and all of the furniture placed.
22:27But I love the energy of just the hustle, the saw, everything about it.
22:32It's like work is happening.
22:35So this is where we're at.
22:37This room looks pretty much done.
22:39Look over here.
22:40Peek in here.
22:41Hi.
22:41Hi.
22:41Hi.
22:42Hi.
22:44This, I'm not even going to think about that.
22:46Let's go.
22:46There's a big bear.
22:48Seriously?
22:48I mean big.
22:49I'm not kidding.
22:49See him right there by the big rock.
22:51Look at him crossing over.
22:52Oh my gosh.
22:52Oh my gosh.
22:54What?
22:55Oh.
22:56Too bad I'll never go down there.
22:57He's kind of cute.
22:59George, you missed it.
23:00They all think it's funny.
23:01Twice.
23:02It's totally funny.
23:03A couple of times.
23:03So I actually forgot what we were talking about, but we're back.
23:06The bear has crossed the river, and there's so much to do.
23:09I'm just going to pretend that never happened.
23:12What I'm trying to do is get it down to the bra.
23:18All of the intricate details of these legs now have this highlight on it,
23:23because we sanded them down.
23:25Chip isn't here, but if he was, I wouldn't let him do this.
23:27Because to me, you have to have a light hand.
23:32You can overdo it, and then it just feels a little too shabby or something.
23:36So we're going to go try this out.
23:39This is such a tight timeline on just trying to get everything in the house.
23:43And so we have so many Magnolia family members here with us.
23:48I just think this is like a fun party.
23:49Where do we start?
23:51Everyone's kind of tackling each room.
23:54We planned it pretty tight to where everything's like a map.
23:57Basically, when everyone got here, it was like,
23:59this goes in room one, this goes in room two.
24:00So it's so thought out.
24:01So they just cleaned out this portion of Ella's cottage.
24:06And I'm wanting to get the bulk of her stuff in here.
24:08She actually comes tomorrow, which I'm so excited.
24:12I haven't seen her since I dropped her off at her dorm.
24:15Really trying to get everything buttoned up in there today and tomorrow
24:18before she gets here so she can just have full reign in there.
24:22You know, this project has been very personal as a family and an extended family.
24:27This is where we come.
24:28It's not just about, I want it to be pretty.
24:30How does this tell the story of us here?
24:33Now, as I'm stepping in and it's all coming together, it's like, ah, it feels like it's right.
24:43We're about 80% done with the staging in the main house,
24:46but we're still waiting on the kitchen and the living room.
24:49In the meantime, we're focusing on the cottages.
24:51I like this.
24:52I do too.
24:53Ella really wanted to be here as we started moving in.
24:58And so we timed it to where she could fly here over the weekend and tackle her little cottage.
25:07She's been in here putting all her stuff together.
25:10So I'm going to check on her.
25:11If you want something here, we were thinking cherries or persimmons, like persimmons.
25:17Persimmons.
25:17Yeah.
25:18That's a soft one.
25:19If you want to eat them, these are her favorites.
25:21Before I pop this, do you like this Audrey Ficus here?
25:25Yeah, maybe a stool.
25:26So put it on a little stool?
25:28Yes, because I think I'd kind of like it to like.
25:30Then let me go find a couple stool options.
25:33Did we have more candlesticks like that one?
25:36Because I think that looks a little bit weird.
25:38By itself?
25:38Yeah.
25:39I will go get you more candles.
25:42Throughout this journey with Ella, taking a back seat, letting her lead has been so fun.
25:48I feel like I'm the design intern.
25:49Ma'am, do any of these suits your fancy?
25:54So I got you all of these little things.
25:57And we'll see if you like them.
25:58That's cute.
26:00I think so, yeah.
26:02I mean, that's really sweet.
26:04You know, there's so many things that I love about this little cottage.
26:07I feel like Ella really saw from day one.
26:10I love the kitchen.
26:12I love how she played with blue and green.
26:16She was not afraid to mix colors.
26:19Do you feel good about the kitchen?
26:21Um, yes.
26:22You want to tackle it yourself?
26:24Mm-hmm.
26:26Okay, I'm going to go work on the big cottage.
26:29If you need me, I'm right over there.
26:30Have some fun in here, babe.
26:32Okay, I'm proud of you.
26:33This place is so cute.
26:37The last time I saw Ella is when I dropped her off at college, almost a month ago.
26:41So getting to see her and how much she's grown in just that one month period,
26:47it does something to my heart.
26:49Crew and Chip get here tomorrow.
26:51Crew doesn't know he's about to see his big sister.
26:53So we've kept that from him because he has missed her so much and she has missed him.
26:57So that's going to be a fun little reunion,
26:59especially because he'll be the first to see Ella's first finished design project.
27:04And then my sister, Mikey, and her husband, David, get here the day after that.
27:08So we've got a really tight timeline to button everything up.
27:19Oh my, I've been waiting for you!
27:23You've got your boots on.
27:25Hey, look what I need help with today.
27:27Remember this little cottage?
27:29Do you see that blue tape?
27:30What do you think that says?
27:32What paint?
27:32So what does that mean?
27:33Don't step on it.
27:34Don't step on it.
27:35Hold on, hold on before you go in.
27:36Hold on one second.
27:37I need you to peel the blue tape off.
27:39Okay.
27:40Wow!
27:41Okay, are you ready to see your little fixer-upper?
27:46Ready?
27:47Okay, step over the paint.
27:49Oh my goodness!
28:00Ella!
28:01Oh my goodness, do you love it?
28:06I miss you too, buddy.
28:08Do you want to look around?
28:14Look up there.
28:14Isn't it awesome?
28:16This is so cool.
28:20This is so cute.
28:21It's so fun to see Ella and y'all.
28:23We're y'all having fun.
28:24So much fun.
28:25Good.
28:26You wait till you see this.
28:27I can't wait.
28:28Do you love the little cottage?
28:30Yes.
28:31Look at our little fireplace.
28:33So cute.
28:34We need to collect some pine cones, okay?
28:37For our little swan.
28:39And look, you need to do some artwork for that, okay?
28:42Some watercolor so that we can put it right here.
28:44Okay.
28:44Okay, do you know what you're going to draw?
28:47Probably a fish.
28:48Probably a fish.
28:51You want to go look in the bathroom?
28:55Do you like the tile?
28:56Mm-hmm.
28:59That's for your laundry.
29:00Or we can put the fish that I can't catch in here.
29:06That's a great idea.
29:10This is like the perfect size for both of them.
29:13Probably my favorite reveal ever.
29:20We are at the last day before the reveal at the main house.
29:24And as only we can do it, you know, it's like there's never a dull moment.
29:27There's so much action going on here in the mountain house.
29:30I don't know if we've had another project where there's like multiple little units.
29:34Yeah.
29:34This feels like a little tiny compound.
29:36We are finishing up the main space, which is the kitchen, dining, and the living room.
29:41We can't control that right now.
29:42But what we can control is the tiny cottage and the big cottage.
29:47Now that the big cottage is done, I really wanted Chip to walk through it.
29:50We repainted the siding a really beautiful green, added new shutters,
29:54and then the hand-hewn beams on the porch.
29:57Love that we've been able to refurbish those cool rocking chairs.
30:00I love them.
30:02After you, ladies first.
30:05Let me see what you've done to the place.
30:06That's so cute.
30:07What have you done to the place?
30:11As you step into the house, we added the fireplace,
30:14which I think is the biggest statement in that room, and then the two new windows.
30:19Golly, babe, the place looks great.
30:23Look at Ella and crew.
30:26Best friends.
30:31I was really thinking about our boys when I designed this cottage.
30:34This just feels like a more masculine-feeling space.
30:40We painted the ceiling and the trim a really pretty green, and then we plastered all of the walls
30:47in the main space, which is really, like, moody and earthy, and then added a few feminine touches.
30:53We added some gingham fabric to the window seat.
30:57I love that that was existing, so wanted to really highlight that.
31:00Something about it is super charming, you know?
31:03The Dutch door that was in the existing kitchen in the main house is now here,
31:06and I feel like it feels just perfect in that spot.
31:11And we just galley-kitchen this by adding all new cabinets, because theirs were shot.
31:17Added this cute little scallop vent hood, which I love scallop.
31:20Love it.
31:21And then this really pretty tile for the backsplash.
31:24Use the existing butcher block countertops.
31:26Chip, remember the lights?
31:27Oh, of course.
31:28Steve said those are going to take another month or two.
31:30Okay, so we're at the lake.
31:30We had these for Ella's cottage, and her ceilings were too low.
31:34So these are placeholders?
31:35Yes.
31:36Good.
31:37And then into the bathroom.
31:41We kept the tub, sink, toilet all in place.
31:44Kept the existing vanity, added new countertops,
31:47and then we did a really pretty black and white tile on the wall,
31:50and then added new light fixtures and hardware.
31:53I just think this turned out great.
31:54This was simple.
31:56And last but not least, the bedroom.
32:00I love this room.
32:01Love this plaid wallpaper.
32:03Yeah, I feel like we just matched the green to the wallpaper.
32:07Even adding those pretty sconces just elevated a little bit, but...
32:10Gorgeous, babe.
32:11Again, that mix of like masculine, but then with these little floral chairs,
32:15so it didn't feel so boyish.
32:17It was like a mix of both.
32:19Well, you did it.
32:20You just gave me the fastest tour in Fixer Upper history.
32:23Well done, Steve.
32:24Guess what?
32:24I think I have about 10 minutes left, and we can move in.
32:27He keeps telling me 10 minutes.
32:29Any minute, any minute.
32:30Because I just got to finish those beams in that kitchen,
32:31and we can move into the kitchen, and we're finally done.
32:34And then...
32:34The big house.
32:35...reveal tomorrow.
32:36Let's go.
32:36Okay.
32:37Well done, babe.
32:38I'm proud of you.
32:38Thank you, Chip.
32:39Now all of our efforts can go into the main house.
32:43Mikey and David, my sister and brother-in-law, are flying in.
32:47We wanted to reveal this to them.
32:49They're gonna be one of the first families that come to visit,
32:51so we thought it'd be fun to kind of show them the lay of the land.
32:54But I mean, we're crossing our fingers we get in before dark,
32:57because there's still a lot of work to happen in there.
32:59Wow, y'all.
33:03Joe has this innate ability to take something
33:06across the finish line that appears impossible.
33:09I think a part of me really feeds off that energy.
33:13And then it's game time.
33:15Tomorrow's the reveal.
33:25Oh, babe, your sister's here.
33:26All right.
33:30Today is the day.
33:31The project is finally complete.
33:33And to top that off, my sister, Mikey, and David are going to be our first guests.
33:39Welcome, y'all.
33:40So we're going to get to show them the property, show them the house.
33:43We can't wait.
33:44Okie dokie.
33:46Goodness, look at the landscape.
33:48For sure.
33:48You step in here and it just feels like this magical little fairy world.
33:52Mikey, look at this house.
33:54Wow.
33:54So pretty.
33:57Let's let them look at this house.
33:58Me and David are going to go look at the river.
34:00What?
34:02You two are on your own.
34:03You two are on your own.
34:05Have fun.
34:05Oh, my.
34:06David and I will meet you back in maybe an hour or so.
34:08We're going to get dinner.
34:08Grab crew.
34:09He's on the back porch waiting for you.
34:10You got it.
34:11Okay, so Mikey, let's go look at the house.
34:13Okay.
34:13Bye.
34:13Have fun.
34:14David, you're going to love that river.
34:16I can't wait.
34:17So out here, we painted the exterior green.
34:20We added a new front door, wood shutters.
34:23And then we cleaned up all of the landscape and added some new plants.
34:26We're going first.
34:28Okay.
34:29Oh, my goodness, Jo.
34:31Isn't it so pretty?
34:32The wood.
34:34The floors were original.
34:36We added all this really beautiful antique oak.
34:39But I just love this idea of this, like, place to put your stuff.
34:43It felt like a nice welcome.
34:45Yeah.
34:45And then stepping into here, the fire.
34:50Oh, my goodness, Jo.
34:52Don't look okay.
34:53Okay, sorry.
34:53I just...
34:55That red fireplace is original.
34:58These beams were existing, but so dark that when we added all the wood to the ceilings,
35:03we had this amazing painter come in and paint every one of these beams.
35:07It's crazy.
35:08Is this plaster?
35:09This is plaster.
35:11These are fun.
35:11These are vintage, and I just recovered them with the gingham.
35:14This is probably one of my favorite little settings.
35:17Okay, we'll go here first.
35:19We opened this up to really define this space.
35:23This is the living room.
35:26This fireplace we added.
35:29And I love this red rock just because it ties back to that.
35:34They had two small windows.
35:36So we opened that up to bring in more natural light.
35:40So it feels like you're in the tree house.
35:42Like a lot of aspens.
35:43I know.
35:45Imagine playing cards here, having coffee.
35:47Okay, to the kitchen.
35:53This used to be their living room.
35:55Oh, Jo.
35:56This is amazing.
35:58We added green tile.
36:00Oh, wow.
36:02Custom cabinetry.
36:04This beautiful vent hood.
36:07There's nothing she can't do.
36:08Stop it.
36:09Seriously.
36:10Imagine all of us at this table.
36:12Wow.
36:13Isn't it so pretty?
36:14The table's like the best thing.
36:16Kitchen.
36:17And then here you see this really pretty black countertop.
36:22More of that green tile.
36:23And then these really pretty cabinets.
36:26I want it to feel like lodge and cottage.
36:30The strong green tile.
36:32All of the wood.
36:33But then you have these like dainty little chairs.
36:36So it's like masculine, but then also charming and sweet.
36:39Yes.
36:40That's the style.
36:41Oh, I love this style.
36:43I want to show you what was the kitchen.
36:45Okay.
36:45You won't believe how little it was.
36:47So this walked into the kitchen.
36:49It was cottagey.
36:50It was really sweet.
36:51But I thought for this amount of space, a cozy reading room would be perfect.
36:56This was the original range.
36:59So we just put this little stove here, added shelving.
37:03We created this little nook right here.
37:07These beautiful floors are antique.
37:10We added paneling on the walls, a darker color, but then vertical and horizontal.
37:14So it just felt super interesting.
37:17And then here we created a cased opening to make this feel a little more defined.
37:23This is the tiny powder bath.
37:25Look at the tile.
37:26Oh, it's so cute.
37:27Fun little sink.
37:28Yeah.
37:29So pretty.
37:30Okay.
37:30Now we're walking into the primary.
37:33That is beautiful.
37:35This is another space where it's like, oh, if you could imagine it before,
37:39this was all walled off.
37:40There's no bathroom.
37:41There's no closet.
37:42So we opened that up, added wallpaper and a sweet scalloped trim.
37:47We added the light oak onto the ceiling.
37:50And then again, we faux painted these beams to match.
37:53That balcony was already there.
37:55These windows were there.
37:57I think the biggest thing here is I didn't want to do a door to the bathroom
38:00because I wanted the space to feel larger.
38:02And now you walk into the primary bath.
38:06And then again, there were no closets.
38:07So adding all of this closet space, water closet, shower, a tub by the windows,
38:14added the double vanity, all this beautiful wood.
38:17All the wood and all the detail looks original.
38:20That was the goal.
38:22Okay.
38:22So now I want to take you downstairs.
38:26Hey, Mikey.
38:26I love this gorgeous wood.
38:30Beautiful.
38:30Just kind of Swiss chalet inspiration.
38:35And then here, I want to show you another guest bedroom.
38:39So we just plastered the walls, painted this trim green, added new sconces here.
38:46There was no bathroom connected.
38:48And now we created a really pretty bathroom with a double vanity in that same light oak,
38:56black countertops, these pretty mirrors, and a picture frame tile in the shower.
39:02That's amazing.
39:03Yeah.
39:05And then let's walk out into this hallway.
39:08Just cut into the stairs and created this little nook moment so it felt bigger.
39:14And then stepping in here, so this was their primary suite.
39:17Okay.
39:17But I turned it into living space.
39:19Wow.
39:22I can imagine all the kids.
39:24So this is kind of the game room, hot cocoa coffee bar.
39:29I love this hand painted tile.
39:34If you look in here, this is the laundry room.
39:37This was actually their bathroom.
39:40But I felt like we needed a larger space for all of our winter clothes and boots.
39:44I added all of the paneling on the walls, washer dryer, the sink.
39:49And then that vintage ski wallpaper.
39:51Cute.
39:52And then stepping into here, this was the primary bedroom, but now this is the den.
39:57Pretty.
39:59I love that every room almost has a fireplace.
40:02Isn't that crazy?
40:03That's amazing.
40:03You know Chip loves wood-burning fireplaces, so we added that new fireplace, the French doors.
40:10I love this little nook right here with new fabric.
40:13I'd be happy just to see you here.
40:15I know.
40:15I feel like this is like a cute moment to read a book.
40:19This is where we're all going to probably hang out.
40:22Wow.
40:24One thing I'm probably the most excited about, this was their closet.
40:30And now this is the bunk room.
40:33So four beds, these beams were there.
40:36I added some tongue and groove, added the pretty wallpaper, all the little sconces.
40:41This room was inspired by our girls.
40:43This is the space that they're going to be in.
40:45It's really sweet.
40:46All the stories.
40:47And then the bathroom for this space, but also for the guests out here, is right here.
40:51Okay.
40:52So we turned this part of the closet into a bathroom that ties into the design of the bunk room.
40:59But look at that plaid tile.
41:01And I love the mirror and these sweet little sconces.
41:05All the wallpaper and tile is still so special.
41:08I do feel like they all have a little story.
41:10Yes.
41:15Okay, last but not least, I want to show you the deck.
41:20Oh my goodness.
41:21I purposely did lounge chairs because I just think it's so good to lay here and listen
41:26to the river.
41:27Look, she looks like a natural.
41:30Let's go down there.
41:31When the weather's nice, we can hang here.
41:34Do you see it?
41:35Look, let's see if it gets attacked.
41:40Hey, Chip, look who I found.
41:42Oh, finally.
41:44Crew sees a trout.
41:45Oh man, it's going to be hard to get him home.
41:48Nice.
41:48How was the tour?
41:49Oh, amazing.
41:50Yeah, what'd you think?
41:51Once again, in awe.
41:52What was your favorite spot?
41:53See, Joe.
41:54I love walking into that fireplace and then you can see the kitchen.
41:58And it's like a 360 of awesomeness.
42:00Awesome, 360 of awesomeness.
42:03All right, I can live with that.
42:05With all the glass and looking out at it.
42:06Yeah, that view.
42:07It's so pretty.
42:09You can just feel the love and the effort that you guys put into this thing.
42:12So it just looks like a million bucks.
42:14This has been such a unique journey.
42:17Now that we're at the finish line, we can finally enjoy it.
42:20This feels like a home for us.
42:22And even the fact that we didn't get to
42:24be here every day like we're used to doing in Waco on those projects,
42:27it was truly the next best thing to have.
42:29He was probably thankful that you weren't here every day.
42:31I'm sure he was.
42:32But see, for real, like genuinely, we're so grateful.
42:34Well done, man.
42:35It feels so special.
42:36The last 10 years we've spent time here in Colorado as a family.
42:40So it just feels like a full circle moment.
42:42Seeing the future, but also just sitting in it now presently,
42:46it feels like such a gift.
42:47And I can't wait for all that's to come.
42:48Steve, congratulations, man.
42:50Well done.
42:51Well done.
42:51Proud of you.
