00:00You want to start from scratch without the gum?
00:05Because we've both screwed up. Let's just start from scratch.
00:09Welcome to Sam's Garage presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
00:30This week on Sam's Garage, we're turning up the boost at the 2025 SEMA show in Las Vegas.
00:50Where innovation meets insanity and everyone's got something shiny to brag about.
00:55We'll kick things off with the latest from Modern Driveline and Boss Hog Torque Converters.
01:00Swing by Team Torque and Car Capsule for shop essentials.
01:03Check out the future tech builds that are rewriting the rules.
01:07And wrap it all up with cutting edge tools and gear that'll keep real builders moving.
01:11Welcome to SEMA, where your wallet cries, but your heart redlines.
01:25Welcome to Sam's Garage. I'm Sam Vodavi coming to you this week from the 2025 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
01:40We're starting strong at the Modern Driveline booth.
01:43Classic cars getting modern clutch tech without losing that vintage feel.
01:47Then Boss Hog brings the torque with the triple disc converters built to handle horsepower numbers that start with a 3 and end with a cha-ching.
02:00We're here at the Modern Driveline booth. I'm here with Bruce.
02:02If you remember, he came on set and we did a GTO together by installing one of its kits, including the side shifter and a TKX.
02:09Today we're going to be talking hydraulics.
02:11Yes, today we've got our Stealth Series with us, where it's completely hidden from view.
02:16And so what we have is a OEM looking pedal, but we're bolting all of our hydraulics to either pre-existing features,
02:23so there's no modifications, while maintaining the geometry and feel.
02:28So you get that modern day drivability with the classic look.
02:32I've used a lot of your competition out there, and I love how you do it.
02:35It's a total game-changer, but you also got the other end, the Eliminator. Tell us about that.
02:40The Eliminator Series was, again, to eliminate the Z-Bar.
02:43And so we created a complete product line here.
02:46We make the bracket so it bolts onto two existing holes.
02:49We made it so that we can get the cylinder to move in different positions, and the pushrod is adjustable.
02:54Now, I know you've got the TKX over here, and you guys have a hundred different variations with your setup, correct?
03:01Explain that.
03:02Yeah, our TKX transmissions, we took the Tremec transmission, fantastic platform that came out four years ago.
03:09And the beauty is that we have different shift positions available.
03:12Tremec from the factory has three, and every time that we have an offset shifter that we do,
03:18it's a variation to meet that OEM specification.
03:21Game-changer, absolutely.
03:22Next season, we're going to be installing a couple of these kits on a Catalina and a Nova, so stay tuned.
03:27I'm here with Nelson at the Boss Hog Torque Converter Booth.
03:34You guys know that they are the official torque converter for Sam's Garage.
03:38We've got a couple of new items that we're going to be featuring today, and we're going to be talking about a triple disc torque converter.
03:42Yeah, the triple disc is actually starting to come out next year, at the very first in January.
03:49We have a whole new series of converters coming out that you're going to hear it first here at Sam's Garage.
03:55We're coming out with an entire no-prep converter series.
03:58Really?
03:59Explain that one.
04:00Well, we're talking about 1,400 to 3,400 horsepower.
04:04Wow.
04:05So when you build a converter for someone and you ask them all their specs to make a custom converter, for them it's actual custom.
04:10Correct.
04:11It's going to do exactly what they wanted.
04:12And we have so many skews, a lot of times that can come to an off-the-shelf unit, but now that we have these no-preps,
04:18they're going to be an entire line of torque converters that are custom, but we have part numbers for them and you can order them right away.
04:24But not only do you have this triple disc and this new lightweight 4L80, but you also have flex plates and coolers now.
04:29Yes, these are new.
04:30We went to the best people that we knew how to actually get them.
04:33We've got the best.
04:34So, I mean, we only sell the SFI.
04:36We're not going to sell anything that's subpar.
04:38And we partnered with the right people in the coolers as well.
04:42We have an entry level with this just a bent tube and fin.
04:45All other ones, though, are going to be stacked plate coolers.
04:48So, 2026, Season 16, you guys, stay tuned.
04:51If you're looking for a torque converter for your ride, no matter whether it's a streetcar or making a huge bunch of horsepower,
04:56you got to look at Boss Hog torque converters.
04:58I'm here with James, him and his father James.
05:04You guys remember them from Pontiacs and Pigeon Forge.
05:06And they brought us a wonderful Lexus.
05:08Tell us all about it.
05:09We started as an Infiniti G37.
05:11We grafted Lexus LC500 headlights, tail lights into it to bring it more up to date because the body kit was kind of lacking in those areas.
05:18We started just by adding some wings, some spoilers to it.
05:21Air ride, of course.
05:22And I'll tell you right now, I had no idea that he had all those features in this vehicle until he just named it.
05:27This is what SEMA is about.
05:28It's about one-off custom cars.
05:30And James and his father James knocked it out the park.
05:32We'll be right back with more of the SEMA show.
05:34Sam's Garage is presented by NHOU.
05:42Brought to you by the following companies.
05:47We're here at the Coker booth.
06:16You know him as the host of the great race.
06:19Checking out this beautiful 1969 427 Corvette.
06:22It's also got the modern driveline hydraulic system that you saw me covering for the clutch pedal.
06:28Welcome back to more of the SEMA Car Show.
06:38From torque wrench calibration at Team Torque to double-decker car capsules keeping six-figure rides spotless,
06:44this segment is all about protection of engines, tools, and your investment in horsepower.
06:51I'm here with Lee and Richard here at Team Torque, and these guys sell you peace of mind.
07:01What we do as far as this world goes is very, very expensive.
07:04Building engines, we're using torque wrenches every day, and we never think to calibrate those wrenches so that we got dependability.
07:10That's what you guys do, right?
07:12Absolutely correct.
07:13That's where we come in.
07:15We're an ISO 17025 accredited calibration lab.
07:19We service, repair your tools, and keep them functioning so that you can use them on those expensive pieces of equipment that you're building, right?
07:27Engines, that's what we're doing.
07:28All these engines, all this money that's in these engines, you know, you're relying on the torque wrench to make sure those fasteners are tight.
07:33And so when you think about that, honestly, Richard, I had no idea.
07:37You know, you think about calibration, but you really don't know where to go when it comes to calibration.
07:40And here I hear Team Torque, and I'm like, this is so cool.
07:43How often do you recommend us doing this?
07:45So most manufacturers recommend annually, so every 12 months.
07:48That is very good to know because, Lee, if you don't do it annually, you're going to wait for a catastrophe.
07:54That's really when you start to question your tools is when you're doing your job right, something fails, you're like, what happened?
07:59Right?
08:00Well, absolutely.
08:01Liability and safety are, it doesn't matter what industry you're in, it's paramount.
08:05It's lost dollars, it's lost sleep, to be honest with you.
08:09Yeah, so if you guys are building engines, you want reliability, and you want peace of mind of knowing your equipment's working correctly, send your wrenches into Team Torque.
08:16I sent my Snap-on wrench in, they've recalibrated it for me, sent it back, and now I know that in the future engines I build, they're going to be just as reliable as the day I bought that wrench.
08:25Thank you guys very much for what you do.
08:26Thank you, Sam.
08:27I appreciate it.
08:29My SEMA trip would not be complete without coming to check out Phil and all the new products he has, and every year he's got something new that wows us.
08:38Like this showcase you got, the carbon fiber showcase, but he's doubled it up and made it to where you guys can fit a complete double stacker lift, as you can see right next to him.
08:47Phil, tell us about that.
08:48Yeah, so this is our new double stacker, as you can see we've got a four-post lift that fits in there real easy.
08:53We just roll it in and unzip this door and drop it back down and you get all the protection we offer.
08:59No dust, no dirt, no condensation, no mold, no mildew.
09:02The way you put these cars away is the way you take it out.
09:05And Dan, tell us what we have inside this double-decker.
09:08So we brought out the 2025 SC31T, all-electric from our company, Southfield Classics, out of Brazda, Georgia.
09:16$300,000 car.
09:17It's got the highest paint job we can get, $50,000 paint job on it from House of Color Paint.
09:21We like to make sure we take care of it.
09:23Just like he said, we don't want to clean it every time we drive it.
09:26So we put it in here and it stays clean until we get it out for the next time.
09:30Not only that, but this has got casters.
09:32The lift, it's stationary, but once you put those casters on, these lifts roll around like butter.
09:36Tell us what you did to make this thing roll in and out easily.
09:39Well, this Wildfire lift, you just put the wheels on the bottom and then you lower it down and it lifts up about three-quarters of an inch.
09:45But our bottom, instead of a zipper, is Velcro.
09:48When you roll it out, it's never going to affect that zipper because we're not using the zipper anymore.
09:53Then when you put it back down, you've got a two-inch strip of Velcro.
09:56Stick it back together and you're good to go.
09:58And because it's carbon fiber, it's a little bit thicker floor, so it's going to handle it being nice and durable.
10:02Go to CarCast where we preserve and present the finest vehicles in the world and yours is next.
10:11This is the sickest El Camino I've ever seen called the Monte Mino.
10:15The artwork on this, the flares, this is absolutely gorgeous.
10:18We'll be right back with more from SEMA 2025.
10:23So the whole reason Vic 66 is in the shop is because Vic has cancer and he wants to do burnouts.
10:41Who doesn't?
10:42Exactly right. Every smart guy does.
10:44When you do a burnout, what happens?
10:45You eat up tires, you make a big mess, a lot of stuff gets on the car.
10:49Put a load down.
10:50Big load on the car.
10:51Burning fuel.
10:52So we've got this thing, item called Burnout Box, right?
10:54It's a kit that we're soon going to sell on the website.
10:57You'll see it coming out, we'll talk about it more.
10:59It's going to be pretty much a reservoir for fueling, like you would in your windshield washer.
11:03Like a windshield washer reservoir.
11:04Right.
11:05Got a reservoir with a pump in it.
11:06Put it right here.
11:07Put a line all the way to the back.
11:08In the back, there are two nozzles.
11:09Get out.
11:10Two nozzles that are going to face the tire and make them wet, making it easier to do a burnout.
11:16We even put a line lock in this one.
11:18All right.
11:19So he's going to turn it on.
11:20The front brakes will stop.
11:21The rear wheels will have no load.
11:22The engine won't even know what's going on.
11:24You know what I mean?
11:25That's awesome.
11:26Water and no brakes.
11:27And big smoke.
11:28Yup.
11:29So if you guys want the same thing for your car, make sure to check out burnoutbox.com.
11:32Not yet though.
11:33It'll be coming soon.
11:34Look for it on social media.
11:35We'll be updating you as well.
11:37So this is going to be a surprise for Vic.
11:39He does not know it yet.
11:40When he picks it up, we're going to show him how he can do a burnout and do it very easily.
11:43Awesome.
11:46So this is called the future tech section.
11:48And this is basically what you're going to see that's coming out in the future.
11:52Like this Type R minivan swap by BCMoto.
11:54This is absolutely beautiful.
11:56We also have a 64 Impala.
11:58This kid, 21 years old, took grandpa's car and made it run off hydrogen.
12:03He's got a T4 supercharged engine and he's got a fuel cell in the trunk running all the
12:07electronics and electricity in the car.
12:09This is the future of our motorsports.
12:12Welcome back to more from SEMA 2025.
12:16Hydrogen classics, tire tech that saves your back and bolts that refuse to loosen even on
12:22Vegas monorails.
12:23SEMA's future tech is here and it's wired tighter than a turbo's wastegate at Redline.
12:30All right, guys.
12:31For 40 years, this is a huge header bolt and they've been saving our butt for 40 years by
12:36making sure that the header bolts do not loosen.
12:38Let me tell you guys.
12:39I just did headers coming in here.
12:41Three threads.
12:42By the time you get in, three threads hold those bolts.
12:45And the number one problem is the gaskets blow out.
12:48Header bolts are always coming loose.
12:49This guy has solved the problems for us for 40 years, but that's not the only part.
12:53You've got header bolts for side-by-side.
12:54We've got header bolts for everything.
12:56We make bolts that do not come loose.
12:59We're up to 35 million of them right now, haven't had one come loose.
13:03Let me tell you something.
13:04Here is where you've saved me.
13:06Turbos always coming apart.
13:08The heat expansions, the cycles, the gasket here blows and you lose all your power.
13:11So I really thank you for this.
13:13But you also do big industrial stuff, right?
13:15Oh, industrial stuff.
13:16Like this right here on the monorail in Las Vegas.
13:17Yeah, this piece is a drive shaft connector from Las Vegas monorail.
13:22These guys provide you with peace of mind knowing that once you fasten that hardware,
13:26it's not going to come loose.
13:27Everything is going to stay put.
13:28You're going to have integrity.
13:29You're not going to have a comeback.
13:30The customer is not going to yell at you.
13:32And if you guys are in the industry, industrial applications, you have something coming loose,
13:37you have a problem in your manufacturing facility, give them a call.
13:40They can solve that problem with you.
13:42They can work with you.
13:43They can come up with the hardware to solve your problem just like you did with the monorail.
13:46We love the challenge.
13:47Absolutely.
13:48Because these are very generic right now.
13:50The new ones, please give us a call.
13:52And you Jeep guys, you Ford guys, the rear ends, the axles, they've got hardware to solve
13:57those problems as well.
13:58So please go to Stage 8 Locking Fasteners and gain yourself some peace of mind.
14:05You guys have seen Sam's Garage and you've seen me use my Corgi Master 28 tire machine,
14:09along with my 9980 balancer that does everything for me.
14:12The best part I love about it is it does not tax my body.
14:15We're all short on staff and I'm still having to do tire machine.
14:18And this thing, totally automated.
14:20I don't have to lift anything.
14:21It's very cool.
14:22Yep.
14:23And the balancing, we can actually diagnose the wheel and the tire on the first spin.
14:28So it works real well to just be able to know if your tire's out around or if your
14:34wheel's out around before you even balance that tire and wheel.
14:38And you call that road force variation?
14:40Radial force variation is the name.
14:42Radial force variation.
14:43Mm-hmm.
14:44But you guys also have other machines as well.
14:45You got them from, you know, basic machines all the way up to high tech.
14:48You hit a button, it does the whole thing yourself, right?
14:50We actually have machines you can push a button and it'll change the tire for you.
14:54Important thing is that to get these youngsters who are coming into this industry and you do
14:58have an automated machine like this, but it's important that they learn the science of changing
15:02that tire themselves as well.
15:04Absolutely.
15:05As we were just talking, the machine has to be a little more high tech.
15:08So the techs need to be a little more high tech.
15:10So that means they really need to know the fundamental basics of changing the rim.
15:15RIMS 101.
15:16Because the tires have gotten more expensive, the wheels have gotten more expensive, the
15:19sensors are expensive, so there's a lot of liability there.
15:21A lot of liability.
15:22So if you guys are opening up a new store or you want to DIY yourself at the house, make
15:25sure you check out Corgi USA.
15:27You've got tire machines, balancers, we've got alignment machines, and we have a mobile
15:30tire service unit that's a complete shop on wheels.
15:33A complete shop on wheels.
15:34That's so cool.
15:35Thank you so much.
15:36All right, Sam.
15:37Thanks.
15:38It's so cool to see Honda still dominating the streets and the racetrack like this brand
15:45new Type R swap in this old school Honda Civic.
15:48And if you're doing a standalone and you want it to run like a brand new Honda and still
15:51have the drivability, check out Honda.
15:53Honda.
15:54We'll be right back with more of the SEMA 2025 coverage.
16:00Sam's Garage is presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
16:06It's brought to you by the following companies.
16:34Check out this wide body Evo with all the aero.
16:36We've got a GT3 RS here, but my favorite is going to be this S2000 with the wide body
16:41and all the carbon fiber.
16:42Welcome back to more from SEMA 2025.
16:52We wrap up Hemsaw's No Mess Cutters, CanCut's Georgia-Made Drillbits, and one last stop at
16:58the Honda Racing booth because every good SEMA story ends where VTEC kicked in, bro.
17:04My trip wouldn't be complete if I didn't come over here and check out Hemsaw.
17:07You know Doug and I on Sam's Garage Great Race.
17:09We've been together for about eight years now.
17:11We do an awesome job.
17:12He does an awesome job with his Hemsaws because not only do these things cut completely straight,
17:17but look how compact they are.
17:18If you're in a shop and you have a chop saw or something like that,
17:21it just makes a huge mess, debris flying everywhere, always having to do cleanup, not anymore.
17:26If you guys have a Hemsaw, everything is contained right here.
17:29And if you don't have a vacuum handy, you've got this magnet right here that's going to go around
17:34and get all your debris from your saw, and you just go right to the trash can, and there you are.
17:40So this thing's also pneumatic, right?
17:42Excellent, Sam. It sure is.
17:43You can use it manual or you can set it on the material and let it cut through,
17:47and then it cuts off at the end, raise it back up, set your material.
17:50Yup. And you guys, we're all at tax in the shop.
17:53We don't have a lot of help around us.
17:54We've got to multitask.
17:55So you could be having something being cut and go over and be doing something else.
17:58Come back, reset it, cut another one, go over and be doing something else.
18:01That's why this little guy is a game changer.
18:03Usually you don't have pneumatic on such a small compact saw.
18:06Again, this thing will also miter to 60 degrees, cuts four and three-eighths straight.
18:10And the blade goes in reverse, correct?
18:12Reverse rotation blade, which really, really speeds up the time.
18:15You can do miters. If you're doing roll cages, anything like that,
18:18you guys can do miter cuts with this little saw.
18:21So this little guy will do so much for you.
18:23It cuts nice and straight.
18:24Look at that little chip.
18:25Unbelievable.
18:26So if you guys are at home, DIY, or even a facility like mine at Sam's Garage,
18:30we've built so many cars and we've got two of these saws.
18:33Check out Hemp Saw, the saw that cuts straight.
18:42I'm here with Andy in CanCut, my favorite drilling bits.
18:46They're not only from our hometown, but they do such a phenomenal job in the shop.
18:49You've seen me use it on Sam's Garage and I love their paste.
18:52What you got new this year?
18:53So we have USA made industrial quality drill bits and cutting tools for automotive repair,
18:58fabrication, body shops. That's all that we do.
19:00We've been in business 40 years.
19:01Family owned.
19:02Family owned. We're a Georgia based company.
19:04So some of the newer products that we have this year is we've introduced a cobalt line for stainless steel drilling.
19:11It also has a full hex shank on it.
19:16Instead of just three flats on the shank, it's got a hex shank all the way.
19:19So that keeps it from slipping inside of the chuck.
19:21So if you're doing a lot of work in stainless steel, this is the tool that you need to have.
19:25There's nothing worse than cutting through stainless steel. It takes such a long time.
19:28Go slow and use cutting fluid.
19:30Yeah, that way you save your bit and it lasts a lot longer.
19:33Absolutely. And that's what we preach.
19:34We try to put a good quality product in your hands, but we also want to teach how to use the product and what applications it's used for.
19:42And one of the things that kills your drill bits or cutting tools for that matter is heat.
19:46So if you can cut the heat down by using a cutting fluid, a cutting paste, like a wax base, this is going to keep the heat coefficient down and it's going to make your drill bits last a whole lot longer.
19:57And it's not going to drip when you're drilling up.
19:59That's right. You can use it upside down.
20:01It'll actually collect some of the chips, too, and it won't run on you.
20:04But we still have the traditional stuff as well.
20:06That's a game changer. I love that.
20:07Now, if you guys are doing any cutting at home, you're drilling holes, you've got to check out CanCut.
20:10In my opinion, they make the best drill bits on the market and their family-owned steel made right here in America.
20:20It wouldn't be right if I didn't close this episode here at the Honda Racing booth.
20:24As you guys all know, very dear to me. I'm a Honda guy.
20:27This year, SEMA did not disappoint. Lots of cool cars.
20:31Actually, there was a lot more imports in Euro cars this year.
20:34It totally reminds me of the old days.
20:36So next year, we'll see you at SEMA 2026. For me, that's a wrap.
20:40Be sure to check out Sam's Garage on these other media platforms.
