00:00...generation now as well, personally if it's me, my message to the players is our inner belief would have been there all week in the game, I don't think today would have been needing a massive big introduction to the players in terms of the importance of the game, you know, believe in yourself, stay calm like the manager said, you've got to have that real, real inner steel in these sort of games, you don't have to say too much to anybody, you just get out there, do your job.
00:25These are wonderful moments as we prepare for these two sides to go head-to-head, at least the road tunnel has been transformed over the years, that green and white lightning always trying to now intimidate the opposition, and these Hebs players are more than used to it, Lauren Shanklin looking straight ahead, Martin Boyle, and we have a laugh with the mascots that are there.
00:53Just big, big moments. Lauren Shanklin leads his team out, gets the nods, and these two sets of players will be greeted by all of noise.
01:05Here's referee John Beaton, leads out the squads, the Hearts players glance across to their right-hand side to where the Hearts fans are congregated.
01:15Great moments, and a great atmosphere brewing. There's pyrotechnics there, tell you what they're not needed, and it's the fans who bring the snap, crack a little bit.
01:43For Hibernian, this is how they will line up one change from the side that played against Dundee United, Warner Horror comes in at centre-half on the right-hand side of a back five.
01:55Watch out for Boyle and Bowie, they really are the goalscoring heroes for Hebs so far this season.
02:01No Chris Cardin, he is on the bench and is available, should he be needed.
02:09For Hearts, they beat Rangers 2-1 at Tyne Castle, that was a big win for them, one change.
02:15Craig Halkett, who signed the new contract, announced on Christmas Day, comes in for Frankie Kent, who finds himself a place on the bench.
02:23A first derby start for Thomas Magnusson, the young ice lander, has been playing just in behind Lauren Shanklin to great effect in the last few games for Hearts.
02:33What did you like to do as a player at this moment, Ian, speak to your feral players or just get out there and run off a little bit of stiffness from sitting back down?
02:48Yeah, get out there, run off a little bit, kind of keep yourself to yourself, get that last ten, fifteen seconds of mental preparation done,
02:56knowing that it's going to be fast and furious most probably, you're trying to, you know, the build-up out there, as you said, was fantastic,
03:03but you're trying to, you know, not think about that, not think about anything else other than let's start the game well,
03:08you don't have to start it brilliantly, do the basics correct, get your ten-yard passes in when you're first headed, all that stuff,
03:13throw yourself into the game.
03:15Did you look for the ball quite quickly as a midfield, did you want it immediately?
03:19Yeah, I think you want the ball as quick as you can, preferably a pass with not too much pressure on it,
03:26but yeah, certainly get that first two or three touches of the ball, make sure you complete your first two or three passes as well.
03:32On Christmas Day in 1875, Hanneman, Lothian and Hibernian met for the very first time, it merited six lines in the local paper.
03:44Many, many more headlines will be written about this one, they're underway, as the smoke will clear, hearts in their traditional maroon colours,
03:56helps the hosts in their traditional green and white, and it is a joy to behold.
04:02Sallinger long, I'll get taking charge. Shanklin clicked on towards Braga, Ohora gets it away, hearts return.
04:18Steinwinder. Steinwinder, put some pressure, on Cannon will break for Bowie, not the best first touch, and McGrath.
04:36Those kind of passes, just nice and relaxed.
04:39Every player in both back fours, now they're touching the ball, a couple of headers won by the centre-half,
04:45that's, you know, against Boyle, that's going to have to, hopefully if they're going to go a bit more direct,
04:49then it's Bowie they'll be looking for all those ones, but yeah, the game, players try to get a wee touch, a wee feel for it.
04:54Scotland international, Grant Hanley, to Warner Horror. Lifted long, Finlay kept an eye on it, McGrath will gather, Devlin tried to close him down.
05:11Braga, nice first touch, couldn't make the second one count.
05:15Josh Mulligan, robbed on that occasion. Steinwinder. Ardell loses out to Braga.
05:32Looked a little bit relaxed going into that challenge, I'd probably prefer to see Jack Aurel coming through him.
05:40Yeah, I think he probably knew there was nothing in behind him, so sometimes you let the striker go and win it and you mop up the second one.
05:47Opportunity for Hebs, there's the chance! And Jimmy McGrath scores!
05:53Two minutes at Eastern Road, it's the home team who get on the score sheet, Cadden with the set-up, McGrath with the finish,
06:01it's the seventh of the season and the league leaders are on their heels.
06:06Our hearts will be so disappointed with that, really, as I said, we talked before the game,
06:11letting players in the box not tight enough, unmarked, you're going to concede goals, so we've got a good start.
06:20Oh, Jamie McGrath, first Edinburgh Derby goal, long ball on the angle, Nicky Cannon on his 50th Hebs appearance.
06:32Steinwinder couldn't close him down, and that really is a simple ball in, went past Cammy Devlin,
06:39and McGrath still had a lot of work to do, Ian, and he finished it well.
06:42Great finish, excellent finish, guided that in, very easy to blaze them over the bar or snatch the number,
06:49very, very composed player, Jamie McGrath, and he's a good finisher, we've seen it not just at Hebs,
06:54but when he was at Dungeon United as well, he can finish, really, really good player, but hearts will be disappointed,
06:59as I said, they've let the cross come in, and they've not put up in the box the basics of football, the basics of any game, certainly not Derby.
07:04Hebs on the half folly, and they have the lead.
07:11That's going to be a real test for hearts, if you're going to go behind, go behind early, give yourself plenty of time.
07:16Oh, loads of time left and again, loads of time.
07:26Mulligan snapping into the challenge, just what you want to see on Derby day.
07:34Well, it's been a great start for David Gray, on his first home Derby, he finds himself ahead.
07:47Bragg up.
07:50He plays that way, it's always good to get ahead before your opponents have even been inside your area.
07:54Yeah, absolutely, yeah. Of course, I mean, Hebs will be delighted, you know, when you say there's plenty of time left,
07:59but of course you don't want to be 1-0 down away from them after a few minutes, you know, you're looking at the positives and saying, you know, we have got time there.
08:06Kingsley.
08:08Hartley with the header away.
08:10Devlin.
08:11They're long on the angle.
08:17Let's try and head it on.
08:19And it runs behind.
08:22Well, Hebs are unbeaten this season if they score the first goal in the Scottish Premiership.
08:28It's the tenth time they've done it this season, they've won six, drawn three.
08:31Once a one comeback win, that came against Livingston.
08:38Doesn't sound great when Hartley only had one comeback win, but they've not found themselves in that position too often.
08:43Yeah, yeah, I mean, the stats, you could address them any way you want, but, you know, once it's for sure Derrick will get the team going.
08:50Like I said, they know it will be 1-0 down so early, but plenty, plenty of time to go.
08:54Next goal now, if it is 1-0, it will be not huge.
08:56If it is 1-0, if it is 1-0, if it is 1-0, if it is 1-0, if it is 1-0, if it is 1-0 and get it soon then the game completely changes.
09:09What a season he's having, Hart's boss, Derek McInnes.
09:14He's hit the ground running.
09:18Magnissa on the inside, Braga.
09:20Not really happy that it wasn't an illegal touch.
09:25He helps mop up anyway.
09:28Barry made the back for Halkett and still won it.
09:35Kingsley preferred to Harry Milne today.
09:38Scored a terrific goal against Falkirk.
09:40Hard to build from the back.
09:43He was looking for the free kick.
09:46You could see a typical forward, just leaning back, leaning back, try to see if he can convince the referee.
09:53Yeah, a good forward play, that's for sure, because it wasn't easy.
09:54You've got a big lump behind you, you know, you're back in and protect the ball and he's done it really, really well.
09:58Fifth straight start and an end with Arby for Warren O'Horak.
09:59Hart's leaving the build.
10:00Not going to build much.
10:02Not going to build much.
10:03with passing like that.
10:04Yeah.
10:05Yeah.
10:06Yeah.
10:07Yeah.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Yeah, and Hibs have just, you know, got that goal, Hibs now, so they've got something to hang on to even if they're not having a lot of pressure.
10:10That's for sure, because it wasn't easy.
10:11You've got a big lump behind you.
10:12You know, you're back in and protect the ball and he's done it really, really well.
10:16Fifth straight start and an end with Arby for Warren O'Horak.
10:20Hart's leaving the build.
10:25Oh, aren't going to build much with passing like that.
10:32Yeah, and Hibs have just, you know, got that goal, Hibs now, so they've got something to hang on to even if they're not having a lot of pressure.
10:38They're not having a lot of the ball.
10:39I think Hart's so far, I've had a bit more of the ball.
10:42Hibs are now getting through the next 10, 15 minutes, easing the game a little bit more and see what they can get.
10:49But it's been a cagey start from both teams, albeit Hibs getting that goal.
10:53But overall, there's not been much happening.
10:56Jamie McGrath's seventh goal of the season, appearance number 25.
11:00That's a good return for a midfield player.
11:02There's a chance for Boyle and Halkett just read the situation.
11:07We talked about this pre-game, just that Martin Boyle area that he loves to run into.
11:12Yeah, I think you play against a player with any pace.
11:15It doesn't matter what they're doing, where they're running, how the game is going for them, they're a danger.
11:22You've got to bring your guard all the time, do you stay high or do you stay low?
11:27It's such a difficult decision.
11:28But with Martin, he's going to play on that shoulder all day long.
11:31Martin Boyle, I think we saw a little bit of audaciousness there.
11:38When you've scored 107 goals for a club, you kind of earned the right to try a few things along the way.
11:43Yeah, Martin has been an incredible servant to Hibbs.
11:47The amount of goals he's scored, you know, to score that many goals.
11:50When you're not an out-win-out striker as well, testament to him.
11:53You know, for him to have got that many goals in his Hibbs career, you know, it's kind of unheard of these days.
11:59It's hard enough for players to reach 100 appearances, never mind 100 goals for a club.
12:05Yeah, that's it.
12:06And again, a player that they took from Dundee, he scored loads of goals.
12:10Martin, when he was younger, Montrose, when he was on loan there.
12:13But again, to go up that level and that standard at the Premier League and do it consistently as he has,
12:18then yeah, all you can do is compliment the player.
12:29Alexander Schuller, the German.
12:38I think you have Derby in Germany, he's got experience of that.
12:45But Harts just a little bit loose to start, McEntee has been in good form.
12:50Steinwinder not on the same page.
12:53Yeah, just a wee bit sloppy Harts in the last five minutes, something they want to cut out as soon as it can.
12:58Braga.
13:03Braga.
13:04As he's out, it's a good play by Barlessa.
13:07Steinwinder gets it forward.
13:09Good to do this, trying to find Shankland.
13:12Harts will pull the ball down and go again.
13:15Make one.
13:20Many people expected Chris Cairns to start today.
13:26But Megwat gets the note.
13:30That's a lovely ball forward.
13:31Here's Mulligan.
13:32Magnussen dragged back.
13:34Makes the block.
13:35Back inside to Boyle.
13:38Megwat teasing in.
13:40How could it work?
13:41Megwat.
13:42Tackled in well.
13:43Battling back, there's Mulligan.
13:45Barry tries to snap shot straight down the middle.
13:57And if the players haven't realised already, with John Beaton in charge, very experienced referee,
14:02seventh Edinburgh Derby in the last ten years, he's going to let things go, let it flow.
14:07Yeah, he is.
14:08There wasn't much in that at all.
14:09Part and parcel of football, getting that little bit of physical contact.
14:13Again, Bowie from that area, I've seen him do it a couple of times.
14:16He can hit them.
14:17He can really hit them.
14:18So you've got to be on them all the time.
14:21Well, in the good old days, you were allowed to stand and annoy the goalkeeper.
14:25But in modern football, it's not really accepted.
14:28And Bowie gets it dumped in his back in the harsh work from the referee.
14:39You don't see that too often these days.
14:41Not a lot wrong with anything there.
14:43The goalkeeper's basically kicked it off him.
14:46Bowie's not went out of his way to screen him or anything like that.
14:50So it'll be a bit unfortunate here and there.
14:52Yeah, I don't have a problem with that, but it's just not something we see.
14:56Braga.
14:58Devlin bit early.
15:00McGrath goes down.
15:02That is a free kick.
15:04The Hibs have started with a nice aura of confidence about.
15:08They've started confidently.
15:10The midfield in there, they're taking the ball under pressure,
15:12trying to bring it down and play.
15:14I think the Hibs midfield has started slightly better than the Harts midfield.
15:17Ah, these games, they ebb and they float.
15:27And Hibs certainly have started brightly.
15:29They have the lead.
15:31Not quite functioning so far for the league leaders.
15:33I think, you know, Harts will not vote to start the game like this.
15:39But it's happened a couple of times this season in games where they've found themselves getting pegged back.
15:43And then it's went away from them a little bit during the game, but they've managed to find their feet again.
15:47So, as I said, Harts will be extremely disappointing 1-0 down.
15:51But they do understand they've been here before, they can do it again.
15:54Oh, that goal coming so early, there's no big goals in each of the last 15 Edinburgh derbies.
16:07There was a time in the early 90s where you could almost write the 0-0 score line before the game kicked off.
16:13Yeah, the 80s were very much the same, there was a lot of 0-0s.
16:16It wasn't for the lack of trying, but off on the two teams.
16:23They gated each other, here's Mulligan coming forward.
16:27Mulligan, Boyle was looking to the side, Harts want a free kick.
16:31A little bit of shenanigans that went on behind as Mulligan came forward.
16:35Yeah, I didn't think it was a free kick, I thought Boyle killed Mulligan,
16:39space series ran across, then pulling them wide, Mulligan can then drive into that hole
16:43and maybe slip Martin in, I think Martin just picked the wrong option.
16:53Oh, the Harts fans and a goal behind there, goalkeeper.
17:02A little bit shell-shocked at the start of this one.
17:05It's the Hibs fans for something to sing about this early.
17:11Yeah, like I said, obviously being in there and then, the feeling certainly from the hip side wasn't
17:20that they were fearing the Harts coming to Easter Road today.
17:23And on the flip side, the Harts fans were excited, they didn't fear going to Easter Road.
17:27So it was a funny dynamic in the city over the last few days.
17:33Well, Shane McEntee, not too impressed with the decision there of John Beaton.
17:39Yeah, I mean, a lead up to a Hibs-Harts game is, you know, it's pretty good natured,
17:44there's a lot of ribbing goes on, but when it comes to kick-off, you're so desperate for your team to win.
17:50Oh, of course, yeah, I mean, it's one of those derbies that is incredibly important to people,
17:55it doesn't tend to go overboard, certainly most of the time it doesn't, which is great,
17:59but there's no doubt, you know, for the next two hours, shall we say, that it's war face on,
18:07get ready for it, and then after it, look, if the team wins, great.
18:10If the team doesn't win, then well, there's always the next time.
18:13Shanklin to Braga, Harts looking to threaten for the first time in the match.
18:17Braga blocked by Hanley, Harts have their first corner.
18:25Harts need to get him involved, and that's what precisely they did there.
18:29Yeah, they do, the front floor for Harts, when they click, it's very, very effective, as we've seen.
18:33That's Hibs' problem to deal with, can they counteract that?
18:37Because they know if you give those players time and space, particularly in those sort of wide areas in the final third,
18:43then it's going to be a long afternoon, but so far they've managed to do it.
18:46Lots of tangling going on, the simple header, the goalkeeper's made a mess of it.
18:52Well, Salinger is complaining, I think he's looking for a decision, he's going to get it, but to me,
18:59Ian Murray alongside me, save the ball first and then worry about what the assistant referee is going to do.
19:05Absolutely, I think he's got away with one there big time.
19:08You know, that was unorthodox to say the least, yeah, we know he's offside, but did it really affect what happened?
19:14You know, come out and claim that, you're looking as a centre half, just catch the ball, take the pressure off us.
19:19Well, Thomas Magnuson, 22 of hearts, the young Icelanders, at least in the turn 23, just putting off Raphael Salinger,
19:31he's taken over from Jordan Smith, between the sticks, and at least the road.
19:37I think it's important, you know, as a goalkeeper, you have to deal with people during your box,
19:42you have to deal with that sort of pressure, and, you know, I've seen a lot worse in goalies coming out,
19:47you look a bit more dominant, give your centre hearts and your team a little bit more confidence,
19:52because now that little bit there hearts will be thinking, OK, where's the next one going to go, shall we swing it on top of him?
19:59That'll certainly be the message from Derek McInnes, get one on top of the goalkeeper, see what kind of mood he's in.
20:07Megua needs to retreat slightly, Kingsley gets the touch, right by Halkett, Shankland into Braga.
20:17Braga tries to get away from Megua, arguably trying to be too clever there, there was a lot of space on the left side.
20:30Canejo Megua, he's a young man, just playing for Hibs for the 11th time, playing in his first derby,
20:39certainly hearts will want to get him tested, here's Kingsley.
20:43Kingsley just in, Shankland is all alone, and Lawrence Shankland could have made that one apiece.
20:52Yeah, I think Lawrence would be disappointed that he's not, again, but it goes back to what we talked to before the game,
20:56if you're going to give Lawrence that amount of space in the box, he will score eventually,
21:00it's a wonderful ball in as well from Kingsley, pinpoint, just gets attracted a couple of steps towards the ball,
21:06and he knows it, the Hibs defender knows he's got away with one as well.
21:11That's one if you're the defender, you just shake your head and say, right, that's not happening again.
21:16And he was caught unawares, Jack Ardell, a hero of a derby match, got a winner against Hearts last season.
21:24A wee warning, because it wasn't like it was fizzed in the pace, he had a lot of time to eye it up, check where he was.
21:33Boyle almost gets away from Steinwinder.
21:36Almost overrun, but that's well played in the end, and then the free kick will be given.
21:49Well, I just wanted a couple of bites at that to Daniel Marles here.
21:55Cammy Devlin says, my book's almost off.
21:58I thought initially that was a wee bit harsh when we see the replay, it's a good call from John Beaton.
22:08There's the Shanklin header, and the goalkeeper happy to see that popping wide.
22:14Oh, that season, very much an aberration for Lawrence Shanklin.
22:29The average is almost, well in fact, over a goal every second game for Hearts.
22:36Yeah, it was a tough season the last one for Lawrence, just uncertainty around his future.
22:41Hearts form as well, changing management, a lot of stuff going on.
22:45He's trying to get him set on the Scotland squad, so he's got a lot to contend with.
22:48But he's come back strong this season, so he shows how mentally he can do it.
22:53There's a good management as well from Derek McInnes.
22:58Show of luck.
23:02I think there's Will Lawrence as well, Paul.
23:04People forget Derek was his manager at Aberdeen when he was a kid, a long, long time ago.
23:07And he had to go away, other places, find his feet, get out of experience.
23:12But Lawrence was always, and always will be, he was an out-and-out goal scorer.
23:16He's had a good career, Lawrence Shanklin played 17 times for Aberdeen, never scored in the first team.
23:22He scored everywhere else he went, goals for United and Dundee United.
23:26Be sure in Germany and Belgium, I beg your pardon.
23:32But, ah, just what a pickup he has been.
23:35Liam Craig, the assistant manager, David Gray.
23:45Make one.
23:48Devlin.
23:49Finlay.
23:59Here's the Hibs press, Devlin taken down.
24:02That was a free kick, despite the smile.
24:05I think Hibs are just settling in the game a little bit now.
24:08Hibs are always saying, I think Hibs are pressing a bit harder than Harts are.
24:11Harts are, Harts are more intending than letting Hibs up the ball to the back.
24:16Hibs going after a little bit.
24:17I think Harts are just a little bit sure they find a no-given.
24:20Hibs going after a little bit.
24:21But, unfortunately.
24:22Hibs going after a little bit.
24:26On to Kingsley.
24:28Need some assistance, gets it on the shape of Cammy Devlin.
24:35Stangwinder, Purasidas has barely seen the ball.
24:38Harts, Greek forward player.
24:42Purasidas now plays it to Kingsley.
24:45Kingsley under pressure.
24:46I'm sure it's another free kick, just now have to be careful Josh Mulligan, it's a couple.
24:52Yeah, Hibs are going to have to be careful, because that's in fear for now, free kicks they're given away in pretty dangerous areas,
24:57we know Harts capabilities, defensive, sorry, have their sight pieces,
25:01we know Hibs defensively at times can be able to leave the blacks in their defender of those,
25:06so we need to be careful, don't commit too many.
25:12Staying Kingsley.
25:1612th Edinburgh Derby, 31-year-old from Sterling, a couple of goals in his time,
25:23looking to be the set-up man on this occasion.
25:29John Beaton, keeping an eye on things.
25:34Kingsley plays it in, head flick was one by McIntyre, got a great goal against Celtic at Celtic Park
25:41at the start of December, but didn't really trouble anybody with that flick.
25:46Yeah, a little bit flatter delivery this time from Kingsley, not too far away though.
25:51Oh, the Harts fans coming to life, they were shocked at the start of the game, Jamie McGrath's goal after two minutes, the difference so far.
25:52Oh, the Harts fans coming to life, they were shocked at the start of the game, Jamie McGrath's goal after two minutes, the difference so far.
25:59Magnusson wins it.
26:00Magnusson wins it, comes down onto Braga, held off by O'Horror.
26:06Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:07Alcout wins it, Devlin drops short.
26:09Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up.
26:11Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:12Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:16Colozidus drops short.
26:17Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up.
26:18Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:19Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:20Colozidus drops short.
26:23Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up.
26:25Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:30Colozidus drops short.
26:33Alcout wins it, Devlin mops up, Stan Winder, McIntyre.
26:37Colozidus drops short.
26:38Hips are struggling with it just to hold the ball, even that one up there, if you're going
26:42to go long and direct, as I said, it's not Boyle you want, it's Bowie you want and you see
26:47Martin just getting a wee bit frustrated there with his team mate.
26:50Hibs have come all the way inside, Hartstone have an out ball wide right at the moment.
26:57Hibs enjoying greater possession, but Hibs enjoying the score line.
27:04And the referee's patience, and Hibs are perhaps fortunate, Ian,
27:09that the fellows are being committed by a series of players.
27:13Yeah, they are, and the way Hibs are pressing, which is fairly aggressive,
27:17then you have to make sure it's the right time where you're going to give away three kicks
27:22or take yourself out of the game as we saw there.
27:25In the end, Bowie's probably had to pick one up or take a free kick for the team.
27:36Into the area it goes, solid header away by Hibs and Boyle, O'Gara, good control,
27:41tries to set up an attack, referee allowed play to continue because it came off Mulligan.
27:46And he will bring it back for the free kick.
27:54John Beaton says FIFA referees, his last season as a full FIFA referee,
27:57he's going to step down.
27:58That's good refereeing as well, just trying to let it go, let it go, let it go,
28:02it'll bring it back.
28:04Yeah, I didn't realise it was John's final season, on the pitch even.
28:10But yeah, really good experienced referee, and so far so good,
28:14he's managed to keep a lead in this derby.
28:17Yeah, pressures of other work still continue as a referee,
28:20still be involved in the VAR side of things.
28:23John Beaton, very experienced ref.
28:33Just nursing a little sore ankle here.
28:35Crack the hand light checking on things.
28:45That's a time for both managers to get a couple of messages to their players,
28:52you know, try and see what they're looking for.
28:56Also ask the players how they're feeling on the pitch,
28:58because as much as you want to give information and get tactics on,
29:03sometimes the players know best and you have to accept that and say,
29:05how are we, because it can look like sometimes a team's got loads of possession
29:09and stuff like that, but you're actually OK with it,
29:11you're just fine, they're not doing anything, they're not hurting us.
29:14I think David will be getting the message on primarily,
29:17saying like, let's be careful with these few kids for giving away,
29:20they're a dangerous, dangerous side at set-place house.
29:23Nicky Cadden who's set up the goal, gets a helping hand up.
29:28Nicky Cadden say, yeah, he will go off the field,
29:33but he'd like to go off the field to play at the side he's going to come back on
29:36and make an impact with.
29:38That's good thinking for Nicky Cadden.
29:45Pemps are going to warm up their skipper, Joe Newell, just in case.
29:50There was the cross.
29:51You can see the horror on Devlin's face, the half volley planted beautifully
29:56by Jamie McGrath.
29:59Celebrating.
30:00It's a great finish, it really is.
30:01The goalie has got no chances to hit it in the ground a little bit as well,
30:04which makes it even more difficult.
30:06Very good post-finish.
30:14Another ball on the inside, Mulligan almost got there, Halkett will bring it away.
30:21Devlin wins the header, Kingsley, heads of a man down, Kingsley swings it in deep.
30:31He's dangerous, back inside to Magnussen, brilliant block from Hanley.
30:36From this angle, he looked like he was on target.
30:39Yeah, dead great defending.
30:41I think that's what Hanley's game is all about.
30:44First and foremost, he's a very good defender, very experienced.
30:48That's what you want to see from your centre-half, throw yourself in front of that ball.
30:52We talked to him before the game that Hibbs have maybe been a wee bit guilty of that this season,
30:56just not defending their goal like their life meant it.
31:01But today, you know, Grant certainly put himself in front of that one.
31:05Hart's second corner, they'll go short.
31:10Here's the Redis for Hora. Magnussen's going to chase after that.
31:20Hibbs with everybody back.
31:23Lance Humps to pick up once more.
31:26This is a hard side, they've lost only four single goals in the last eight games coming into today.
31:32They're not used to playing from behind.
31:37They thought they'd get a free kick there, didn't look like it.
31:40Now Mulligan can bring it away for Hibbs.
31:42Mulligan on to Boyle, Steinwinder was caught on the inside.
31:46Boyle with the opportunity.
31:50Fidolo said he took his hands away from it,
31:53but Martin Boyle just couldn't get the angle he wanted for the finish.
31:56No, he had no support, he couldn't put the ball in.
31:59It's good defending as well from Hart's because you know Martin wants the ball on his right foot.
32:02So, of course, a month he's left.
32:04As I say, nobody in the box, which is unfortunate,
32:07because I'm sure Martin was looking for a little bit of help.
32:09It's 3v1, effectively, if you count Kings, it could be 4v1.
32:13And it's a score from there, I think, if he had the goalkeeper would be disappointed.
32:21Well, Nicky Cadden's day may be done.
32:23And that's unfortunate.
32:25Hibbs rarely play without one of the Cadden brothers being on the field.
32:28But he's picked up that injury.
32:32And while it didn't look overly serious,
32:36he knows that it is a shake of the head and a disappointment.
32:40He's had a big problem in the last few a while with his Achilles and stuff.
32:48It's a big loss for Hibbs.
32:50Josh will come on and what Josh will do is he'll make loads and loads of forward runs.
32:55So, he's going to have to be a match in midfield.
32:57But I think that's a big loss for Hibbs, that one.
32:59Yeah, I mean Josh Campbell, plenty of experience in derbies.
33:03This is 13th.
33:05He'd be expected to come on so early.
33:07Magnussen blocked.
33:09Tries to win it back.
33:13Well, that won't be a free kick.
33:15And Bowie came through.
33:17Our assistants are David Room and Ross McLeod.
33:23And Sean Beaton is never a man to be rushed into a decision.
33:29There's a fine line between blocking a player and fouling a player.
33:33Yeah, but I don't think there's much in that at all.
33:37You know, I think the reaction of both players, to be honest, tells you everything.
33:41Kingsley's not overacting it, not overdoing it.
33:43Kieran Burry's frustrated.
33:45I feel it's a free kick.
33:46And John's done the right thing again.
33:51Actually, more like Kingsley kicked him, but the free kick was given.
33:55Half an hour played.
33:56East the road stadium, the league leaders finding themselves behind.
34:03Down Wiener enjoyed that.
34:12And then he didn't enjoy that.
34:14There's no point doing the hard work.
34:16The simple stuff then evades you.
34:20Sometimes you can't really make a case for the defence in situations like that.
34:26You've just got to concentrate that a little bit harder.
34:29I mean, it was easy, easy passes.
34:31You know, it makes such a big difference because he's done the hard part.
34:33He's taken Hibs from the game and simply passed the ball out the park.
34:38It's that Wiener heads it out of play.
34:43It's been a game with very few chances so far.
34:48The chances that have come, Hibs have taken their one.
34:53I think normally two shots on target was the goal on Burry's tenth and edge of the book so far.
35:05Absolutely.
35:06Let's try to create more.
35:07Magnussen will pick that up.
35:09Maga wanted time to turn.
35:11He wasn't given up by O'Horror.
35:14Maga comes back again.
35:15Maga flips it over the head of Mulligan.
35:23Braga brings it down, opens things up, tries to work the one-two.
35:28Just a little bit tight.
35:30I feel like there might be an element of retribution on Kieran Bowie there.
35:35There's been one or two fouls.
35:37He decided to knock over the head of Stryker.
35:40It was a clear foul.
35:41Yeah, it's been a fairly physical game going by the modern era standards.
35:46The players are quite happy to go.
35:49We'll get a feel of each other in terms of trying to win the ball back.
35:52Yeah, I think it might be right.
35:54I think it might just be a little payback there.
35:56Take those four hips, Hartfield triangle on the break.
36:13Braga on to Shankland.
36:15Forgive the pun, but he's a little bit marooned out there.
36:22Swimming in a sea of green and white and did well to get through.
36:25Yeah, he did.
36:26Again, that's what Mullins can do.
36:27Get up the park, suddenly from a defensive situation.
36:31Hart's won the attack.
36:32Just need that little bit more support.
36:34Fair play at Hibsville.
36:35We were getting back in numbers.
36:36We're busting them up to get themselves back in position.
36:39Hart's coming in today.
36:41They've beaten the last five after the loss at Aberdeen.
36:44They've never been behind in any of those five games.
36:47But they are behind at Easter Road.
36:49And they get to the way.
36:50It's the reminder.
36:51Played it and was fouled.
36:52James Campbell.
36:53And they get to the way.
36:54It's the reminder.
36:55Played it and was fouled.
36:56James Campbell.
36:57And they get to the way.
36:58It's the reminder.
36:59Played it and was fouled.
37:00James Campbell.
37:01And they get to the way.
37:02It's the reminder.
37:03Played it and was fouled.
37:04James Campbell.
37:05There you see.
37:06That spins McGrath.
37:07Tries to get away from Ardell.
37:08He'll get a second chance.
37:09Ardell was strong.
37:10He was good defending from Ardell.
37:11Initially.
37:12The first phase there.
37:13He got past.
37:14Far, far too far.
37:15Easily.
37:16Josh Campbell.
37:17Just caught out by.
37:18It's a hard game to get up to speed with that quickly.
37:19You've got to try and work your way in corners.
37:20I see.
37:21But it's the best.
37:22It's good.
37:23He's good.
37:24He's good.
37:25He's good.
37:26He's good.
37:27He's good.
37:28He's good.
37:29But it's good.
37:30But it's tough.
37:31But it's good.
37:32What do you think?
37:33Maybe.
37:34But, that's all.
37:35It's tough.
37:36Maybe it's good.
37:37You've got to try and work your way in, if you're pouquinho.
37:38Right, that's good.
37:39I think.
37:40It's good.
37:41That's good.
37:42Yeah.
37:43quickly you've got to try and work your way in as a sub yeah it's very difficult to come on in any
37:47game um so early and get yourself up to the pace and the tempo of the players on the pitch even
37:53more so in a game like this but again the importance of being a good professional the
37:57importance of being ready because you just don't know what's going to happen i'm sure josh
38:00they didn't expect to come on the pitch after half an hour back into your head flip one by hearts
38:07bragger trying to be adventurous and it wasn't to be for the hearts number 10 11 goals 23 games this
38:17season it's good defending from megler as well you know keep talking about the importance of being
38:27tightened in that box and that's what he is so you're forcing the player into trying something
38:31something different be imaginative we know bragger can do that he's had a good start to his heart's
38:36clear but really good to find them from me i'll get above campbell hips throw
38:52jimmy mccratt
38:55so it's to leave it jack are they a long throw on him
38:58well david great just lost one of four edmund armies pretty good records in recent times for the
39:12head sports here's bragger
39:13and then into a quarter it's megwood
39:24oil collects ahead of finley
39:29jab through no free kick given
39:34joshka doesn't quite believe it hips have ridden the storm a little bit back into the game yeah i think
39:40you know just we were you saw the pictures of david there he's very calm but i'm sure they would
39:44like hips to get hold of the ball just a wee bit more particularly going into the
39:48latter part of this half just get hold of it don't have to you know go gung-ho crazy with it but get
39:53get a good feel put a little bit more pressure on it because i did feel after the 15-20 minute mark
39:57hearts were finding their stride a little bit it's died down a touching thing
40:01it's going to be a little bit more pressure and all he can do is hook it out of play
40:23and the chance will come his way to score against hearts it's the third edmund derby
40:39i think ardell knows what it's like to score a winner
40:42i'm not sure he's going to try and launch this into the box
41:00it's a long long throw goalkeeper calls for it
41:05and then decided to let it run out of play
41:07it's not managing to find the pressure that they were looking for
41:16they have actually come off the hearts play
41:22here's devlin
41:25and as he does up against ardell and as he does emerges not get the free kick for that john
41:32baton as he's done several times this motions to the player
41:36bank on the feet
41:43kingsley to shankland magnusson
41:48it's looking for a cohesive move devlin
41:53standing right there
41:56delivers into the box shankland's stumbled of his own accord
42:01there's kingsley against megworth
42:03on the drag one side dangerous ball across
42:09and in the end hibbs deal with it without the goalkeeper being overly troubled
42:13yeah that's a good numbers forward director's full of the box as well
42:19this time what's cut inside it wasn't a bad ball at all to be fair
42:22from steven kingsley just um not there for him
42:27it's that wind up it's off the side of the head
42:29back in t says that came off mcgrat
42:43both sides have scored in just two of hips last seven games so the opening goal has been vital
42:49let's have it here just after two minutes
42:51derek mckinnis be concerned at the lack of chances i mean salinger doesn't really have a save in the books
43:01i think both managers will i mean if it stays at this till half time there's no doubt david's going
43:05to be the happier manager but there's not a lot in the game in terms of chances created possession
43:12on the ball so it's been a funny funny first half and the hips have just taken that chance
43:16to go up in the first couple of minutes and take that out and i know it's easy to say that
43:20you've been saying it's been a pretty pretty tight even game with not what happened
43:29no kick stand winder thought he should have a free kick bowie throwing himself about
43:37but the referee might have reversed the call here
43:40to make your phone
43:44hey i don't think it's about a corner this half
43:47nope not so with a couple none for him so far
43:56or the way stand winder turned he reckoned that that was going to go his way
44:01the hearts are under a little bit of pressure here
44:05from a half to the break
44:07He's got a great delivery, Jamie McGrath, not on that occasion, Braga away, both teams
44:26just giving the ball away, now McGrath will get to set up, takes McIntyre out of the game,
44:37Alcott, can't make this up, McGrath, his goalkeeper have come out there and he did so.
45:07Well, Josh Mulligan came through the man to get the ball, according to referee John Beaton.
45:19That looked really, really harsh for me, I thought he won the ball, but we see it here, it's harsh
45:27but maybe by the letter of the law these days, but I think it's a disappointing thing for
45:31Hibs, and David is sloppy from Medwell, give that opportunity, and Hibs was just getting
45:35that wee bit of pressure going into the half-time break, and suddenly now, as we said earlier,
45:40in yet another set play.
45:42Yeah, it was a bit unlucky, I'd rather see him not giving, certainly in this sphere of a derby.
45:52Hibs one, Hart nil, Devlin on the angle, Campbell tries to get the flick on, works well for him, here's Bowie.
46:04Well, ever since Kenny McLean scores from the half-way line for Scotland against Denmark, it's in
46:10everybody's mind.
46:11I just think that's really, really poor, Josh, Campbell's won the ball, he's making that
46:15forward runs like we said he would, we'll just delay it, can you delay it in our few seconds,
46:19cos there is a wee chance, or at least put it into the corner, cos we know Josh will chase
46:23things all day long, you take the pressure off your backline, but if you're shooting from there,
46:28I mean, come on, he's not the wisest of choices.
46:37Well, back in March have scored two goals against Ars at Easter Road for the first time in seven years,
46:42previously just six goals in nine meetings, but they have the lead here.
46:48They haven't really tested Alexander the Chauvelot too often.
46:54The Hibs haven't tested the Hibs number one either.
47:18Cucleot doesn't want to have placed just yet.
47:39Oh, look at that.
47:42Doesn't want to have plays just yet.
47:48The Black trying to take on McIntyre, great ball in, there's a chance!
47:53And Josh Campbell has done it!
47:55The substitute off the bench glances the ball past the Harts goalkeeper
48:01for his first goal in an Edinburgh derby.
48:07What a moment for Josh Campbell.
48:09Yeah, it's a brilliant header, we said it before, Josh is going to make runs into the box,
48:15he's done it all his career, he's very, very decent in the air for his height
48:19because he's not a big lad.
48:21I think the defender and Derek McInnes will be absolutely furious, the defender.
48:26We know McGraskill, he's got great feet, but that's so easy, it's so, so easy,
48:32he's not really done anything.
48:35Great ball in, it's a great header.
48:39I don't know if they'll check that, but even if they do, I think that's a goal it's going to be given.
48:46Well, VR will double check, but it looked onside, there was the cross, the header was brilliant,
48:53exactly what he wanted to do, and past the outstretched palms of the Harts goalkeeper.
48:59What a moment for Josh Campbell, what a moment in the title race.
49:05That's a trailer, Anne Easterrode by two goals to nil.
49:08Well, McIntyre, I think that's the sound of the frustration from losing McGrath for the goal.
49:21Yeah, it will be, he'll know he should have done better,
49:24McIntyre, you know, Kefibs can see this out for half-time,
49:27where we go in two nil up, and it's a huge half-time team talk for both managers,
49:33by the way, not just Derek, because we've seen two nil leads so often in the past,
49:38that they're dismissed.
49:39But Harts are the last team in Edinburgh Derby to lose a two-goal lead Scottish Cup in 2016,
49:48and in league terms back in 2006.
50:01There's a long ball into the middle, dealt with by Ardell,
50:04Harts trying to find a way back, blocked by Hanley.
50:09Magnussen, you'll overrun that,
50:13and this half will belong to Hibernian.
50:17Yeah, well, and it's a funny old half still,
50:20because, as I say, Hibs have deserved a two nil lead,
50:23maybe not, but you can't take anything away from them,
50:26they've came out, they've harassed Harts,
50:29they've pressed really, really well, I have to say,
50:30I think Hibs have pressed really well,
50:32and they've taken their chances.
50:35Ian, I've got three notes written down,
50:37two of them are goals, the other one was the Shankland header.
50:42That's all there's been, you know, we've not seen a bad tackle,
50:45we've not seen a big, big miss, you know,
50:47Shankland will be disappointed if he didn't score,
50:50but it wasn't a glaring opportunity or a glaring miss, you'll say.
50:53Can Harts find a way back into this before the break?
50:57The referee will bring play to a close,
51:00McGrath,
51:03and he felt full force of McIntyre.
51:05Well, if you're a Harts fan there, you won't play to continue,
51:11if you're a Hibs fan, you won't play to stop.
51:15He certainly got clocked on the side of the head,
51:17we saw that in real time.
51:20It's a very difficult one for John,
51:22he's got to go with the instructions that he's been given,
51:25and I think we knew that the ground wasn't in a great deal of pain,
51:30but you can't take any chances.
51:32And the more you see that goal there on the screen,
51:34that's an unbelievably good header from Josh.
51:37Oh, I love that.
51:39His first goal of the season.
51:42It's been used as a sub 17 times now.
51:46And that will feel good.
51:47It will feel really good.
51:55Is there a way back into this one for Harts?
52:02Maybe a little bit of play,
52:04just for the stoppage to McGrath,
52:07the three additional minutes.
52:09Hibs want the whistle,
52:10and want to get inside.
52:13Harts want to pinch something here.
52:19McIntyre.
52:21Poor throw.
52:22Unless Harts return it quickly.
52:25The whistle will go.
52:37Unless he'll get another chance,
52:38here comes the throw.
52:45Referee John Beaton brings the first half to a close.
52:48There's work to do for the league leaders
52:50and for Derek McInnes.
52:52Jamie McGrath with the opening goal.
52:58Beautifully played.
53:00And then he set up Josh Campbell
53:01to get the second.
53:03And Josh Campbell,
53:04who came off the bench
53:05for the injured Nicky Caden.
53:07Brilliant header right across the goalkeeper.
53:10Harts will feel they've simply not done enough
53:12in testing.
53:14Raphael Salinger.
53:15But Hibs have been ruthless in front of goal,
53:17taking their chances.
53:20It says this is Easter Road,
53:21and at the moment,
53:22it does belong
53:23to the home team.
53:26Big 45 minutes
53:27coming up for Harts.
53:28We'll review the first half action.
