00:00A boxing day downpour. Just the recipe these quad riders were waiting for.
00:09We enjoy the mud and put our bikes to the test.
00:12Each year on the day after Christmas, dozens of bike, buggy and quad riders head out on the muddy dirt tracks of the Darwin rural area.
00:21I reckon for NT it's very much a tradition. Everyone gets together and even if you get stuck there's always someone there to help you out.
00:29Everybody comes out just to have a good day. They drop all the drama, drop all the things that happen throughout the year and they just go out and have a great time.
00:41Across the Territory Top End, the monsoons brought big rains and kept the temperature cooler for those wanting to cast a line.
00:49It's getting out of the house. Yeah, not stuck in the house with the kids. They've been stuck there for a few days with the rain so yeah, trying to get out and about and have a quick fish.
00:58But it also led to some less than ideal driving conditions.
01:03So since the monsoon was declared on Tuesday, we've generally seen 100 to in some places up to 200 millimetres of rainfall.
01:11The monsoon now predicted to ease in the Territory as the system tracks towards northwest Queensland.
01:18But some flood risks are still active.
01:21So there is a flood watch current affecting the Waterhouse River east to the Queensland border and then southwards into the Barclay.
01:30So there still continues to be the risk of some heavy falls through that flood watch area this weekend.
01:37The monsoon didn't manage to put a dampener on the Territory's tourism trade, with cruise ship the Crown Princess still managing to dock in Darwin despite the wet weather, bringing more than 3,000 visitors into the town.
