00:00And we now cut across to a live news conference that is underway by the MEA.
00:11Incidents of violence against minorities including cases of killings, arsons, land grab have been documented by independent sources during the tenure of the interim government.
00:25These incidents cannot be brushed aside as mere media exaggerations or dismissed as political violence.
00:55We hope that we will get to the end of the year.
01:02Thank you very much.
01:32Thank you very much.
02:02How does India view the return of Tarek Rahman to Bangladesh?
02:09He wants to come back to Paris come after 17 years.
02:13And secondly, Myanmar is going to have his first phase of elections on the 28th.
02:17Has India sent any observations?
02:24Yeshi?
02:26Oh, sorry, Ayushi.
02:27This is Ayushi from ANI.
02:32Sir, an Indian origin student studying at Canada's University of Toronto.
02:37He was killed after he was fatally shot near the campus by unknown attackers.
02:42Do we know more about the incident?
02:43Sir, a case of medical negligence has come to light in Canada where Prashant Srikumar,
03:00a 44-year-old Indian origin man, died of suspected cardiac arrest while waiting for a treatment
03:06at Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Canada at Benton.
03:10Do you have any comments to offer on this incident?
03:14Hello.
03:14Sir, in a hard-hitting editorial, Proto Malo has said that India is allowing Sheikh Adina
03:27and other prominent leaders of the Army League to carry out anti-Bangladesh activities while
03:33being in India.
03:34Do you have a remark on that, sir?
03:38And also, I mean, what is India's, I mean, I haven't heard from the Indian authorities about
03:42the burning down of the two major newspaper offices in Dhaka, that is Proto Malo and Daily
03:48Star.
03:48A comment on that, as well, sir.
03:53Megha?
03:58Good afternoon, sir.
03:59Megha from NewsX.
04:00There has been a second Hindu death that has also been reported yesterday from Bangladesh.
04:06The Yunus government has, in fact, come out and made a statement that this man in question
04:11was a terrorist.
04:12Now, there has been no trial that has been held.
04:15He has not been convicted of any crime.
04:17Has the Indian government spoken to the Yunus government of what is happening and what really
04:23happened on the ground?
04:25Because he was also lynched.
04:26There was a group of locals who beat him to death.
04:33Okay.
04:34Sir, I am from Jai Prakash Dhanik Jagaran.
04:39Bangaladir, my question is, sir, that the government has also contributed to the public league
04:44and the government has said that he believes that he believes that he is trying to do it.
04:50How are you looking at this step?
04:52Okay, Eshi, first on the return of Mr. Tariq Rahman.
05:05As we are aware, India supports free, fair and inclusive elections in Bangladesh.
05:11This development must be seen in or should be seen in that context.
05:15On Myanmar, we stand for democratic transition in the country.
05:27Elections are to be held.
05:29We support free, fair and inclusive elections in which everybody participates.
05:36And India stands for peace and stability and return of normalcy in the country.
05:42In regard to your question about observers, I don't have an update on that.
05:46So I shall come back to you.
05:56I see your question regarding a student who we lost in Canada.
06:03Just a second.
06:04I see your question regarding an Indian student who died in Canada.
06:17We are in touch with his family.
06:20It's very unfortunate.
06:21We've conveyed our deepest condolences.
06:23We are also in touch with local authorities as to what the circumstances, etc.
06:29that led to the death.
06:30We'll come to know of those details more.
06:32But we are in touch with local authorities in the matter.
06:35And as also our consulate is extending all possible support to the family of the person who died.
06:43Canada, we are in touch with local authorities.
07:13We are in touch with local authorities.
07:16So how do we need to help him?
07:22So how do we help him?
07:23Can we keep that further?
07:25And from the Consul Abbas,
07:27we are in touch with the people who died in the coming years.
07:31Also bringing in my colleague Geetha Mohan who joins us on the phone line.
07:40Geetha, with regards to the current state of affairs in Bangladesh, lynching of Hindus,
07:46Hindus getting targeted, the MEA saying that they are monitoring the situation very closely
07:50while they condemn the killings of Hindu youth in Bangladesh.
07:54But to take up the matter more seriously with the UNIS government.
07:58Well, that's right and there has been continued engagement when it comes to India and Bangladesh.
08:05I would not call it engagement.
08:07There actually have been protests that have been launched by India.
08:10The High Commissioner was summoned more than once and there have been two and so,
08:16we've seen two and so between India and Bangladesh when it comes to summoning of High Commissioners on either side.
08:22And having said that, this is another gruesome killing of a Hindu in Bangladesh.
08:28So yes, and the fact that there are false narratives that are being now put out by Bangladesh,
08:35which is what the Ministry of External Affairs that the Indian Administration is calling out.
08:39There have been, according to MEA now, 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh
08:45during the duration of the interim government led by Mohammed Yunus.
08:51So it is a serious matter in how the country is going to turn out for minorities living there.
08:57India has been one of the most important partners and neighbour countries
09:03that has looked into the issue of minorities in Bangladesh.
09:08And under Sheikh Hasina government, at least that guarantee for protection and safety of minorities was there.
09:16Doesn't seem like it exists right now under Yunus or could exist under BNP should they come to power.
09:23Oh yes, absolutely.
09:23And not to forget how the Yunus government is in denial.
09:26They are saying that these attacks that have been happening are not communal.
09:31We continue to track the situation closely.
