00:00The High Court is set to deliver its long-awaited verdict on Friday

00:06in Datuk Sri Najib Razak's RM2.8 billion RM1 MDB trial,

00:11bringing to a close more than seven years of legal proceedings

00:14in one of Malaysia's most consequential corruption cases.

00:17Trial Judge Justice Colin Lawrence Sequeira will rule on whether the former Prime Minister

00:22is guilty of four charges of misappropriating 1 MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering,

00:28or whether the defence has succeeded in raising reasonable doubt.

00:33Prosecutors contend that Najib was a central decision-maker

00:36who enabled and benefited from a complex scheme to siphon public funds,

00:39while the defence maintains that the money involved were political donations

00:43and that Najib was misled.

00:45If convicted, Najib could be sentenced on the same day,

00:48with his lawyers expected to seek a stay pending appeal.

00:52He is already serving a prison sentence at Kajang Prison

00:54over the separate SRC international case.
