00:01The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has fixed October 14th to hear Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application
00:08for a stay of execution of his 15-year jail sentence and 11.4 billion ringgit fine
00:14following his conviction in the one MDB corruption and money laundering case.
00:20The court decided on the date during case management on Friday
00:23after considering that Najib's counsel had filed the certificate of urgency.
00:28The court said the written submissions should be filed before the date.
00:33In December last year, the court meted out the fine and the prison sentence on Najib
00:38who then filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal against the decision.
00:43However, he did not apply for a stay of execution of the verdict.
00:48The prison sentence is to run consecutively,
00:51commencing only after Najib completes his existing six-year term,
00:55which runs until August 2028 for the misappropriation of 42 million ringgit
01:02in the SRC International case.
01:05Last week, Najib was granted a conditional royal pardon
01:09which allows him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest
01:14subject to the payment of a 50 million ringgit fine.
01:18We have told the court that we are not allowed to apply for a stay,
01:22but the development will happen.
01:24We may need to make a request for a stay, like today.
