00:01Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has filed an application at the Court of Appeal
00:07to adduce fresh evidence in his bid to overturn his conviction and sentence
00:12on 25 charges linked to the One Malaysia Development Berhad, One M.D.B. scandal.
00:19Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Garib confirmed the filing but did not disclose further details.
00:25The application, filed through Shafi and Co., is part of Najib's appeal against his conviction and sentence
00:32in his second criminal trial involving One M.D.B.
00:37According to reports, the fresh evidence concerns the involvement of fugitive businessman Lo Taik Jo,
00:43better known as Jo Lo, and former One M.D.B. General Counsel Jasmine Lu Aisuan,
00:50who testified as the prosecution's 50th witness during the trial.
00:54The case has been fixed for case management on June 19th.
00:59Appeal hearing dates have yet to be set as both parties are still awaiting the full written grounds of judgment
01:05from trial judge Datuk Colin Lawrence Sequeira.
01:09In December last year, Sequeira found Najib guilty on all 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering
01:17involving 2.27 billion ringgit in One M.D.B. funds.
01:22Najib was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined 11.38 billion ringgit
01:29with an additional 10 years jail in default of payment.
01:33The court also ordered him to pay 2.081 billion ringgit under a recoverable sum order.
01:40The 73-year-old is currently serving a reduced prison sentence in connection with the SRC international case.
