00:00The French Alps of Val Thorens has become a testing ground for the eco-friendly technologies of the future,
00:07capable of anticipating avalanches and other weather phenomena.
00:11Let's see more details in the following material.
00:17At the top of the French Alps, at an altitude of 2,300 meters,
00:22lies the ski resort of Val Thorens, one of the most famous on the continent.
00:28Several meteorologists and geologists have studied the national region of the mountainous giant
00:33to avoid the risks of accidents and avalanches,
00:36which has stimulated the modernization of the complex's patrols and their weather analysis equipment.
00:48The Val Thorens Pist Patrol Service invested in drones, especially the one you see behind me.
00:55And so, for this one, we went for the DJI brand, something of a world leader in business drones, the M300.
01:03It is equipped with a thermal camera, a zoom camera that magnifies 200 times, and a wide-spectrum camera.
01:11It fully meets all of our operational needs.
01:14Oh, I almost forgot.
01:16It also has a laser pointer that provides GPS coordinates from up to 1.1 kilometers away.
01:30The safety of skiers and snowboarders used to depend on the experience, instinct, and vigilance of the mountain.
01:37But this season has become something different, a testing ground for technology that is transforming the way ski resorts operate.
01:45So, we also have the possibility to use a headset.
01:55But I, as a pilot, I have to look at the screen to be able to follow the drone,
02:00and another person can put the headset, like that, to be able to see the security mission,
02:06and tell me if there are people that I would not have spotted.
02:08So, for this season, from January, we will have a new drone called the DOC-3.
02:22Okay.
02:27Scientists consider the technologies used in the complex to be a milestone for the analysis of meteorological phenomena in areas with extreme climates.
02:36Raphael Luzzi, from the Valthoran Ski Patrol, agrees with this opinion and states that,
02:43beyond traditional parameters, these atmospheric analysis drones can recognize factors such as snow precipitation angles,
02:51its thickness, and the depth of its layers.
02:53We use this software, because it helps us to manage the snow.
03:09So, for example, it's really important to get some data,
03:13because if you don't know, if we have to know the depth of the layer of snow,
03:20to know if we need to come back with a snowcat to push the snow,
03:25or if we need to do some snow production.
03:31And it helps us also, for security, to know exactly the location of the snowcat drivers,
03:40especially when we do an avalanche control.
03:43These innovations are becoming standard equipment,
03:50so rescue teams are not only formed of traditional techniques,
03:53but digital systems support much of the safety aspects on all tracks.
03:59Modernization that is estimated to reduce the risk of accidents to a rate of 9.5 per 1,000 visitors.
04:05It's a good option.
04:06It's a good option, it comes out.
