00:00PSA. PSN accounts can be hacked even with two-factor authentication passkey enabled.
00:07PlayStation's security woes continue, as it has been recently reported that PlayStation
00:11network accounts can be hacked even if two-factor authentication and a passkey are enabled.
00:17It seems that even with minimal information about the account,
00:19hackers are able to take control of PSN accounts.
00:23How are PSN accounts getting hacked?
00:25A report from French outlet Numerama reveals that tech journalist Nicolas Lelouch had his
00:30passkey-protected PSN account hacked, allowing the attacker to change the email and password
00:35and spend money via a linked payment method.
00:38Although PlayStation support helped Lelouch recover the account, the hacker regained access,
00:43prompting direct communication in which the attacker mocked him and explained the flaw
00:47lies in Sony's account ownership verification.
00:50The hacker only needed a transaction number.
00:52Taken from a screenshot, Lelouch posted online in 2023.
00:56And the account's username, with Lelouch also discovering that Sony accepts either the
01:00last digits of a payment card or console's serial number as verification.
01:05Lelouch's case is not isolated, as other users shared similar experiences after his tweet,
01:09with some losing their accounts permanently.
01:12About a year ago, former top trophy hunter Hakum publicly described a hacking incident
01:16and dealings with PlayStation support that ended with him recovering his account but damaging
01:22his relationship with PlayStation PR.
01:24While a few months ago, current number one trophy hunter David123 also had their information
01:30stolen, with their account later listed for sale on Telegram.
01:33Sony has yet to comment on these hacks or find a fix.
01:37Until they do, which may take a very long time, just be sure not to share any information
01:41regarding a PSN account online for the foreseeable future.
