00:00Well more than a week on from the Bondi attack there are still plenty of people out and about
00:06here in North Bondi but it is quieter than it typically would be at this time of year leading
00:11up to Christmas and New Year's Eve. Many of the businesses here close to Campbell Parade were
00:17directly opposite the footbridge where the shooting happened on December 14 and the workers at these
00:23cafes and restaurants say they shielded victims and people running away from the shooting when it
00:28happened. Now one of the businesses here that we've spoken to say that they opened their doors up the
00:33day after the shooting to offer free coffees to local residents here and that gives you a sense
00:39of how local residents are grappling with this tragedy. They're still reeling with the events
00:45but they're trying to support their local community where they can. Now the state government has issued
00:50$25,000 grants that will help local businesses that have been directly affected but the Waverley
00:57Council is urging Sydneysiders to get down to Bondi and use the dollar the best way they can
01:03supporting cafes, restaurants and retail stores. Here's what some locals had to say earlier.
01:09Despite the tragedies of the last few days this is heaven on earth and nothing's going to stop us
01:17from enjoying our community and our locals. It's just nice to get back out in the community and
01:22be around people after what's happened. It's nice to see people kind of yeah getting out and about
01:28again and trying to kind of lift the spirit of the area. Waverley Council has cancelled its plans
01:34down here for fireworks at Bondi. The fireworks at Sydney Harbour are still going ahead as planned.
01:41The New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley said there will be an increased police presence both
01:46down here at Bondi as there has been for the past week or so and at Sydney Harbour but you wouldn't
01:52be pressed on how many resources there would be deployed down to the harbour. Sydney fireworks are
01:58typically a large event every year so I'm sure we'll see thousands on the harbour as usual.
