00:00What sort of consumer rights do we have at this point?
00:02Now, this is really, really interesting, and people get this wrong,
00:06and I'm actually going to say something that's a little bit controversial on this in a second.
00:09So, first of all, remember, if you buy something in a store,
00:15unless it's faulty, you have no legal right to take it back.
00:19So you buy something, take it home, decide it's the wrong colour, want to change it,
00:24you don't have a right to do that, unless they have a published returns policy.
00:28If they have a published returns policy, you do, but they may have suspended it pre-Christmas.
00:32Those type of things happen.
00:34The next thing you need to understand, order online,
00:36and you do have a 14-day period to change your mind, unless it's a personalised or perishable item.
00:42So you've got 14 days to notify them, and 14 days after to send it back.
00:47If an item is faulty, whether you buy online or in store, you've got 30 days to take it back to a full refund.
00:52Now, listen to those time periods. 14 days online, 30 days faulty.
00:56So you bought a present at the end of November that you're not going to give someone until you see them on the 1st of January.
01:02If it's faulty, you're through your period.
01:04You can only get a repair replacement.
01:06So this is the thing that people hate hearing.
01:09But if you've bought somebody something expensive that could have a fault in it, open it before you give it them.
01:16If it's sitting there now, open it before you're giving them,
01:18so you've got a chance to send it back if it's faulty,
01:21or a chance to send it back online if it isn't right for them,
01:23and then send it back up, and if they ask, say, I opened it just to check it wasn't faulty.
01:27And actually, I would like us to move the conversation that that becomes an acceptable thing,
01:32because otherwise, you're going to give somebody an item that's faulty.
01:35You know, you're giving your kids something.
01:36You've stored it a month ago, and then suddenly they get it,
01:38and you no longer have your 30-day right to return for a full refund.
