Abraham Lincoln and the Light of Honesty
(Long Moral Story in English)
Many years ago, in a small village in the United States, there lived a poor boy named Abraham Lincoln. His house was made of wood and mud. There was no electricity, no comfort, and very few books. His family was poor, but they were rich in values.
From a very young age, Abraham was known for his hard work and honesty. During the day, he worked to help his family, and at night, he studied by the light of a small oil lamp. He did not only dream of success — he dreamed of becoming a good human being.
One day, Abraham was working in a small shop. In the evening, a woman came and bought some items. Abraham quickly calculated the price and took the money. After closing the shop, he checked the accounts again and suddenly felt nervous.
He had taken a few cents extra by mistake.
The amount was very small, but Abraham’s heart felt heavy. He thought to himself,
“No one knows… but my conscience knows.”
It was late at night, the weather was cold, and the road was long. Still, Abraham put the extra money in his pocket and started walking. He walked for miles through dark roads and silent paths until he reached the woman’s house.
He knocked on the door.
The woman was surprised to see him.
With a polite voice, Abraham said,
“Ma’am, I accidentally took more money from you. These extra cents belong to you.”
The woman’s eyes filled with tears. She said,
“My child, this is such a small amount. You could have kept it.”
Abraham smiled and replied,
“If I do not speak the truth, I will never be able to forgive myself.”
Years passed. That honest boy grew up to become a lawyer, and one day, he became the President of the United States of America. Because of his strong honesty and fairness, people lovingly called him “Honest Abe.”
Abraham Lincoln proved that honesty is more powerful than money, and truth always leads to greatness.
