Zac Taylor Reacts to Bengals Blowout Win Over Dolphins
Transcript
00:00Proud, not surprised by the response our guys had.
00:02You know, we expect to come down here and, you know, a lot of questions about how these guys are going to respond.
00:07We saw how they respond all week.
00:08We knew how they'd respond and come down here and put together the performance they did,
00:12especially settling down at halftime and coming out and getting four straight turnovers,
00:16three turnovers and turnover and downs.
00:18Offense responded with four straight touchdowns.
00:21Special teams units doing a great job controlling the field position the entire second half.
00:25Just really proud, but again, not surprised by the response we had.
00:30You kind of got in your favor with that off schedule, for example.
00:33Yeah.
00:34What did you see from Burrow and Drew making that play?
00:37That's usually how it works.
00:38I mean, they had a tough time containing Drew today.
00:40But Drew's just Mr. Reliable.
00:42You know, he's in there in protection.
00:43Has a great field, very similar to the Buffalo touchdown he scored a couple years ago, same protection,
00:47where he's just got this awareness where Joe needs my help right now.
00:49I'm out of the protection world, and I've got to go find a way.
00:52And he was trying to score, man.
00:53I was trying to hope he stayed in balance to keep the clock running there at the end of the half.
00:56But Drew, he was helping on getting in the end zone.
00:59And so, again, that's a huge play right there by Joe and by Drew and by the protection
01:05to give him the time to be able to extend the play like that.
01:08A.J. obviously had that big run.
01:10They had about 30 yards after that in the first quarter.
01:12You can tackle all the effort it kind of takes.
01:14Yeah, they're an explosive team.
01:17They're really tough to defend, especially in the run game with the play actions off of it.
01:21They did a nice job in the first half, finding a rhythm.
01:23But I thought our defense really did a great job settling down and knocking those down for two or three yards
01:28and putting them into passing situations.
01:30You know, with a rookie quarterback, we knew that was going to be challenging.
01:32And so, I thought the defense had a great response.
01:34You know, the big touchdown run, yeah, they got us on it.
01:36They've gotten a lot of people on that.
01:38But I thought the response after that was really good by the D.
01:40As you guys started, you know, utilizing all your weapons, you know, it's T here and then Jamar and then Chase Browns.
01:46Was this kind of an example of how your offense can be and is played to perfection?
01:52Yeah, you know, I feel like we've shown this a million times over the years, you know.
01:57And unfortunately, this year, we just haven't been able to do it.
02:00But this is no surprise.
02:02I mean, I was walking off field, Drew Sample, and he said this is how I'm used to these games going, you know,
02:06when we've got everybody on offense ready to roll.
02:10So, again, we've got another opportunity this week against Arizona to come back home and do it in front of our fans.
02:14And I expect our guys to respond the right way.
02:16I know you're in the game.
02:18Is it bittersweet?
02:20This is what you wanted it to feel like going into a game?
02:22Yeah, it is what it is.
02:23You know, this is the situation we're in, and this is what we can control.
02:27And so, after the season, you'll have a chance to reflect back on things that we've got to do differently.
02:32But I think right now, this is all we can control this week was what was our response in the building to, you know, a lot of people after us right now.
02:40And so, the response was tremendous by our guys.
02:43And to put together such a complete game, I thought was really impressive.
02:47Speaking of seeing it in the league, how does T.L lose two jump balls?
02:50How big was it to kind of get his goal coming back home?
02:52Yeah, I mean, it was – I told Jamar to come punch me in the stomach.
02:56We hadn't thrown double go by the midway point in the second quarter.
02:58So, we got to it a little earlier than I had initially planned.
03:01We were backed up.
03:02It felt like the moment to go do it.
03:04And T did what T does.
03:06He goes up and gets it.
03:06And we ran the double move there on the goal line.
03:08I thought he did a great job with his patience.
03:09So, Joe had time to get it up.
03:10And T, you know, he's caught so many touchdowns in that back right corner of the end zone getting his two feet in.
03:15So, expected nothing less from that connection.
03:18You guys have high expectations for Chase Brown from the end of the season.
03:21And I knew you saw two games, you know, but when you look at what he's been able to do for you guys on offense
03:25and being able to stay healthy and you guys raise his work ethic and how much time he puts in
03:30and making sure his body's ready to go.
03:32What did you think about his performance today and just his season as a whole?
03:35Yeah, it was great.
03:35I think Chase is a huge weapon for us and does a great job with his explosiveness.
03:40Tremendous matchup in the pass game as well that he probably doesn't get enough credit for.
03:43He's won a lot of those choice routes underneath.
03:45And he got a CO for a touchdown today when he was matched up on a backer.
03:50And so, again, he's been a great weapon for us.
03:52I'm happy to have him.
03:53I'm good with the direction he's heading.
03:55It seemed like you started with DJ and you tried to go.
03:58Yeah.
03:58You got JB and Newton to come up.
04:02Yeah, I mean, DJ was battling the flu, you know.
04:05So, for him to even get out there and get IVs and go out there and play,
04:08it would be hard to get through an entire game.
04:10So, certainly appreciate DJ doing what he did and fighting through it.
04:14And then, fortunately, we got to a point where we were able to get him out.
04:17And, you know, if anybody just got the flu, you get midway point in the game,
04:20it's going to beat you up pretty good.
04:22So, again, I appreciate DJ doing everything he could to get to this game and get through it.
04:27He had new plays for you.
04:28Yeah.
04:29Awesome.
04:29And I saw DJ Ivy at the end of the, you know, make a good contested play towards the end.
04:33So, I thought the response was great.
04:35I thought JD's pick was awesome.
04:39And all those turnovers those guys got was a lot of them were combination plays
04:42where one guy was knocking it out, one guy was tipping it,
04:44the other guy was making the play.
04:46JD's was just one-on-one, man coverage, went up, made a play.
04:48It was big time.
04:49What's the feeling like on the sideline when it does start to snowball and you're going to turn over
04:55and then they catch you in and get it to seven?
04:57I mean, you guys scored 21 points.
04:58That we have to finish.
05:00Exactly what I thought was we have to finish, you know.
05:02And I've got a lot of respect for the Dolphins and the coaching staff there.
05:07They're really good coaches, good people.
05:09But we needed to have a killer instinct to finish that game out, you know.
05:13And so, we wanted to continue to be aggressive until about the midway point in that fourth quarter.
05:16But for our guys, for our sake, for our identity moving forward, you know,
05:20we need to have a killer instinct and keep throwing the football
05:21and keep finding ways to finish drives and not let them try to get any hope
05:26and creep back in the game.
05:27And I thought our guys did a great job of that.
