01:41Gets Philly's defense to adjust if I'm Washington I've got to have a touchdown here
01:46They had the 26-yard line first drive begin and settled for a field goal. It's Kroski Merritt
01:52Inside the five still going down to the four
01:56Midway through this second quarter in a 7-3 game
02:00And the second and short coming here for Washington
02:03What offensive line which was the focus this offseason the offensive line still was not great last year
02:10They traded for Tunzel. They drafted kindly in the first round big improvements for this group. Absolutely
02:15And again, they think they have their tackle duo for the next couple of years set
02:21And Tyler Biotish the veteran center. He had a great block there to spring him
02:25Kroski Merritt
02:26Graham blows it up
02:28And Kroski Merritt loses a yard. Jahad Campbell finished him off
02:32But again, it was Brandon Graham that blew the play up third down
02:36Third and four you got to be thinking two plays to get these four yards down here exactly you took the words out of my mouth
02:45Go back and think of that earlier
02:48Possession after the opening kickoff fumble on third down a similar distance. They put the ball in the air
02:54Didn't give them an opportunity for a short fourth down. Let's see
03:00What approach they take here
03:05On the ground Kroski Merritt fights inside the wall and I think he's got it
03:11He's got it to Corey Kroski Merritt
03:15Tackled by Zach Vaughn
03:17It is enough for Washington first down. Oh, there you go
03:26The third down call always tells you what the coaches approach to fourth down is gonna be
03:31First drive they threw it on third. You knew they were gonna settle for three that time
03:36Third and four they hand it off
03:40Knowing they would go for it on fourth
03:47Craig Rolstadt the referee Nick Sirianni saying hang on we think he might be short
03:54After replay assists the runner was short of the line to game
04:00So Sirianni doesn't even have to use a challenge replay assist gets involved here
04:04And says that Kroski Merritt is short, so it's fourth down and not a whole lot
04:10You see that right knee similar to the earlier one with Saquon
04:14clearly short and
04:17I mean short of the end zone, but I'm surprised that they're saying he's clearly short of the marker
04:23I think first down yard to Gaines the one yard
04:27So they're about
04:29two feet short
04:32There we go
04:34Fourth down less than one
04:39And now a challenge fully comes. They're gonna challenge the challenge. You can't triple stamp a double stamp. You can't challenge a challenge
04:46But again, just to be official. It was a we play
04:51The ruling that the runner was short of the line to game
04:55Challenging the replay assist
04:57Replay take a look at the replay that you just replayed
05:02We'll take a break the Saturday doubleheader concludes tonight at 8 20 p.m. Eastern on Fox
05:08Stream games live on your mobile device with NFL plus
05:13Replay room saying did we stutter we said he's a short he wants to look at it again, and they just confirmed it
05:20So it's fourth down and about a foot. That was an interesting sequence there
05:24It's hard to appeal to the judge who made the initial that's right decision
05:32nonetheless
05:34Handed off straight ahead and diving is Rodriguez for the first down
05:45This time there's no question
05:47Chris Rodriguez
05:49Right up the gun first and goal for the commanders
05:53Old school powers that bond does a great job. He contacts
05:57Rodriguez short, but
05:59Just that little extra effort after the contact he's short of the goal line, but they just needed to get to the one and
06:08It'll be first and goal. This is a Washington team four and ten. They have an eight-game losing streak
06:13They just ended last week. They all say that the effort has not dropped one bit following the courts are laid down by that man
06:19Dan Quinn fighting here against a team that's trying to clinch a division in the playoff spot
06:24It's bill stepped up at the goal line
06:29And short Jordan Davis who's put it all together this year first round pick of a few years ago has been dominant
06:36He has been so good. I mean he came in to leak watch him right here
06:42He's gonna give a quick little stick and then work across the right guard Sam Cosme
06:46That is so hard his line stunt was to step with his left foot
06:51And then he still beats the offensive guard to the right that is a big-time goal line
06:56They keep on pounding away Krusky Merritt stacked up again by Jordan Davis second effort to the goal line
07:11Depends when they say it's four days
07:14He was out he was in he's in officially
07:18Well initial surge was stopped by Davis but Krusky Merritt kept on battling and Washington's back in front
07:25Well, they had to earn that
07:30Jordan Davis again. He makes the first contact. He stands him up
07:35So there he stopped so it gets a little gray like when does his forward progress get ruled to have been stopped?
07:43Then it turns into a push on both sides and the officials rule in a touchdown
07:499 play drive Washington finds the end zone and they need Philly a 340 to go in this second quarter
08:05That's the point from Moody's good
08:07So Bill Krusky Merritt caps off this long touchdown drive who's the big play though Terry McLaurin the seventh year man from Ohio State
08:17Has made his name making plays like that
08:20And then the rookie finished the job 10-7 commanders
08:28Been calling him Bill. He's got a nice head of hair now
08:30But when he was a kid he was bald and they said he looked just like cartoon character little Bill
08:35So who it is and Bill's got a touchdown
08:37The sixth of his rookie year
08:39These commanders trying to pull off the upset
08:42And delay Philadelphia's division crunch
08:46Have a 10-7 lead
08:48Line drive kick into the end zone
08:50But he's going to bring it out
08:52And Shipley who fumbled the opening kick
08:54Makes a poor decision here
08:56Jeremy Reeves crushes him
08:58Shy of the 20
09:00Yeah, so clearly Shipley was undecided where he was on the field
09:07Was he in the end zone for a touchback?
09:10Was the ball not cross the goal line?
09:13Clearly some indecision and then just the timing
09:18Of this dynamic kickoff is just all predicated on the returner coming out initially
09:22And you take that delay and that's what's going to happen
09:26Well, Dan Quinn told us he thought one of the ways that they could pull an upset would be to win special teams
09:31And they have dominated that phase in this first half
09:34From the 19-yard line they start to drive out of the gun handed off Saquon Barkley
09:39To the 24
09:45Well, there's been one
09:47Excellent driver. They just steamrolled down there working out of an empty set for a lot of it
09:52I've not seen as much under center from Philadelphia as we saw last week when it was close to half of their plays
09:59Run over the Raiders
10:03Second and five fake to Barkley
10:05Throw from Hurts
10:06A.J. Brown having a big first half
10:09That was the first down catch
10:10Boarding him against Antonio Hamilton
10:13Yeah, so a lot of the conversation around gun run game compared to under center run game
10:19A lot of it also has to do with how teams defend you
10:22So they're gonna have an extra defender in the box
10:26You can either control them in the gun with your quarterback or your RPO game
10:29Or you can get under center cut your splits down and block them with your wide receivers
10:34But this is a lot of light box here
10:37By the commanders, so they're okay being in the gun
10:42Barkley
10:43That's seven
10:46Von Miller
10:47Future Hall of Famer
10:49His 15th season
10:51First one with the commanders have the tackle there
10:55Down to 220 in this first half
10:57Two timeouts for the Eagles
10:58Plus the two-minute warning coming up
11:01Washington will have the ball to begin the second half
11:03This is part of the game where Washington's been the best in the NFL
11:06Last four minutes of the first half
11:08First four minutes of the second half
11:15Run it all the way down to the two-minute warning
11:17And have those two timeouts on the other side of it
11:22Back and forth first half
11:24Between these longtime rivals in an NFC championship game rematch
11:28Commanders have come to play and lead at 10-7
11:30He elected to let the clock run down to the two-minute warning
11:33He's got the two timeouts and his team has it second and short
11:37At its own 39
11:39I have to imagine they pick up this first down here
11:42Just get a fresh set of downs
11:43Then you're going to see
11:45Hurts go into more of a traditional up-paced two-minute mode
11:48To try to go steal some points here before the break
11:50Blitz is coming here
11:52Picked up
11:53Hurts scrambles and throws against his body for Brown
11:55He's got his fifth catch of this first half
11:58To the 45 he goes for the minute 50
12:01So now
12:03Now they can start going with some tempo
12:05Start going with some pace
12:07You're thinking touchdown
12:09Of course you can always settle for a field goal
12:11But you want to make sure that Washington does not possess the ball again
12:15That's why that last first down was so critical here
12:16Allowing them to go fast now
12:18Already a miss from Jake Elliott in this first half
12:19Again that's why that last first down was so critical here
12:22Allowing them to go fast now
12:24Already a miss from Jake Elliott in this game
12:26Another extra man comes and the blitz picked up again
12:29Coverage is tight
12:31Hurts slides with a couple
12:33A minute 20
12:35And still have not used one of those two
12:38Hurts running more the last couple games
12:41Such a big part of his game first few years as the starter
12:44Less than ever this year
12:46Coming back here late
12:47Second and seven
12:51In rhythm Brown again
12:55First down to the 45
12:57Got inside Antonio Hamilton for eight
13:00So they're just
13:02Right now Kevin Petula
13:04He's just so comfortable
13:06Keeping Jalen Hurts in the gun
13:08In the spread because
13:10Here we are under a minute to go in the first half
13:12They've yet to get one pressure snap on Hurts
13:14Again he's clean and he's outside the brown
13:17Yeah just taking advantage of this depleted secondary one injured corner after another Antonio Hamilton has hardly started over the course of a decade in the NFL has his hands full out there with one of the game's best
13:31And I think it's a little bit of pick your poison and Dan Quinn kind of admitted to such he's like you know we're gonna have to be okay giving up pitches giving up some underneath check downs he's like we are not gonna let them throw the ball over our head for one play score so die a slow death compete in the red zone limit possessions that's the formula if you're Washington
13:53Second and three still have those two timeouts with 35 seconds
13:56Second and three still have those two timeouts with 35 seconds
14:00Hurts looking long
14:02The ball is stripped
14:03He picks it up
14:05And ultimately gets shut down by
14:08Jacob Martin
14:11Had the pass rush right there knocked the ball away
14:14Hurts lucky to recover it
14:17Second charge timeout
14:19Philadelphia
14:20Timeout used by Philly
14:2325 seconds left in this half
14:25Right on cue we talked about how this pass rush has really struggled
14:29All season long but
14:31Remember now under two minutes he is allowed to advance the ball Jalen Hurts as the fumbling player he can pick the ball up and advance it
14:40Here in the final couple minutes of the half if another Eagles
14:44Offensive player would have picked up that fumble it would come back
14:47To the point Hurts lost the ball and they do not get the extra yardage
14:52Got Rams fans saying wait a minute what sharpen it in the edge what
14:56Unless it is in backwards
14:58Touches it and yeah
15:00We'll get into that in the second half
15:02Another story
15:03Exactly right
15:04Here outside of Jake Elliott's field goal range
15:10With 25 seconds
15:14Washington finally getting some pressure on Hurts there
15:20Shipley's the running back
15:22Over the middle Brown got decked right away by Hamilton
15:2519 seconds down to 18
15:30And Washington's going to use their last timeout
15:34Third and final charge timeout
15:36Washington
15:38This is a 30 second timeout
15:40Gives us a chance to check in with Kurt
15:41All right, thank you Joe coming up on the Verizon halftime
15:46We've got something good under the Christmas tree
15:48The guys unwrapped the biggest plays of the half
15:51Plus get you ready for the winter classic between the Packers and the Bears
15:55We'll see you at the half
15:56We've got snow in our way for the boys
16:00We've got beautiful here on the East Coast
16:03Temperatures in the high 40s
16:05Today was up into the 50s this week in the DNG
16:08Offense is staying out there Greg for 44 at the 34 yard line
16:13Yeah, so Washington likely that they anticipate Philadelphia to attempt a field goal here
16:18Elects to use their timeout
16:20So that the field goal attempt would not be the final play of the half
16:23In the event that they miss
16:25You have an opportunity here at the 40 to give yourself a chance for a field goal
16:29But obviously it doesn't matter
16:31Because Jalen Hurts in the offense is still on the field as of now
16:34Eagles are trying to make that backfire on Dan Quinn
16:37So they still have a timeout left
16:40So if they get low on the play clock they can take a timeout and they will
16:43Third and final charge timeout
16:46Philadelphia
16:48This is a 30 second timeout
16:50All right, so now everybody's out of timeouts with 18 seconds
16:54And a 10-7 ball game
16:56Philadelphia trying to clinch the East with a win tonight
16:59Or a Dallas loss tomorrow against the Chargers
17:01And now they're going to send the field goal team out there
17:03And send a long range attempt from Jake Elliott
17:0658 is a season long
17:09This is 57 here
17:12Struggled mightily from this kind of distance last season
17:16Has been much better this year though
17:19One of seven from 50 plus last year
17:22Four for seven this year
17:25Looking to return for that earlier miss
17:29Looking for the tie
17:3157
17:32He misses to the same spot
17:35There's a flag down
17:40There's a flag
17:42And this is going to be on Washington
17:44And that's going to be a backbreaker
17:47Offside
17:49Defense
17:51Lined up in the neutral zone
17:53Wow
17:54It's a five yard penalty which results in a first down
17:55That's Tyler Owens
17:56You just
17:57You cannot do that
17:59Wow
18:01Again, that's exactly why Dan Quinn took the timeout
18:05That's him here at the top
18:09Hard to tell
18:11I think that's Owens at the top
18:13But again, it worked out exactly
18:16The way Dan Quinn wanted
18:17He takes the timeout
18:18Forced a long field goal
18:20And after the miss
18:22They'd have an opportunity to steal three of their own
18:24Instead
18:26Get an automatic first down
18:28And
18:29Offense goes out there
18:30No timeouts
18:31You taking a shot at the endzone
18:32Or just a sideline throw to get a few more yards
18:34Yeah, of course
18:35Can't take a sack
18:36And of course this ball can't be tackled
18:38With 12 seconds
18:39You probably
18:40Can run a play
18:41Hurry up
18:42Get down
18:43And still clock it
18:44Anything over 12
18:45Everybody back at the line
18:46Is scrimmage here
18:47Trying to defend against the deep throw
18:48They went for Smith
18:49He was covered by Hamilton
18:51They have gone after him
18:52Tony Hamilton on his shrug
18:54Nine seconds now
18:55And Jake Elliott's coming out
18:56Saying
18:57Hopefully third time's the charm here
18:58He's missed twice in this first half
19:00All right, so
19:06Here he is
19:07Right there
19:08So
19:09Again
19:11That's really
19:12Tight
19:13But
19:14They're gonna continue to officiate the neutral zone
19:17And
19:18That helmet gets anywhere near the ball
19:19Now you got to imagine
19:20He's gonna line up about a yard
19:21Off the lawn
19:22Look how far back
19:23He is
19:25That he is
19:26Trying again
19:27Oh my goodness
19:29A three-peat
19:31Three misses in the first half for Jake Elliott
19:35Identical
19:36Hooking to the left
19:37And it stays
19:3810-7 Commanders
19:42Wow
19:49Wow
19:50So in this first half
19:51Philadelphia on special teams
19:53Has fumbled the opening kickoff
19:56They've had a bad decision from Will Shippey to bring the ball out from the goal line
20:00And they've had three misses from Jake Elliott
20:02To Jake Elliott
20:05That's how
20:07A nine and five team finds itself training a four and ten team
20:10Absolutely
20:19Ten to seven the score and the first half stats are brought to you by head and shoulders
20:24Philadelphia with the edge in a lot of ways with the special teams going the way of the Commanders
20:29And it's Washington with the lead trying to pull off this upset their own little
20:34NFC's tournament
20:36Beat the Giants last week
20:38They lead the Eagles at halftime and they'll have the ball on the other side of the break
20:42It's the Verizon halftime coming up right after these messages report from your local Fox station
20:46On your local Fox station
20:49Продолжение следует...
21:19That's a sweet version.
21:21Good job, Bobby Reed.
21:22Welcome back.
21:23Merry Christmas.
21:24Merry early Christmas.
21:25Opening kickoff, Eagles fumbling is kind of a sign of what the half would be like.
21:29They're down 10-7.
21:30Yeah, really, the difference at halftime is clearly the special teams.
21:34Multiple missed field goals, two at the end of the first half.
21:36And then, of course, like you said, the opening kickoff fumbled by Will Shipley.
21:41So I think both teams have to feel okay with where they are.
21:44I mean, Philadelphia had that nice scoring drive.
21:46They went right down the field.
21:47They'll get back to some of that spread passing game, try to find a way to get Saquon Barkley rolling.
21:52As they try to win the division for the second straight year.
21:56Such a playoff spot.
21:58Commanders trying to spoil things into the second straight win after the eight-game losing streak.
22:03Kickoff here.
22:04He's taken by Chris Moore.
22:09Moore has dropped at the 31-yard line.
22:11So here are some of those miscues we were talking about.
22:13If you happen to just tune in or if you're a Commanders fan, you might want to watch this.
22:17Eagles fan, look away.
22:18Opening kickoff, Shipley fumbled.
22:20Jake Elliott missed two field goals officially, but really it's three.
22:24One of them got wiped away because there was a penalty on Washington.
22:28Shipley another mistake on a return there.
22:30It's a near fumble.
22:32Hurts is able to pick up.
22:34Could not get points on that.
22:35Really, Philadelphia moved the ball.
22:37It's just not much to show for it.
22:39Just the seven points for the two missed field goals.
22:42Commanders have it to begin the second half.
22:44And looking long in the first play.
22:50Threading one through and a diving try from Traylon Burks.
22:54He's got it.
22:55Traylon Burks, what a catch.
22:57They had one of the catches of the year against Denver, that one-hander in the end zone.
23:01This one he dives out, uses two hands for 25 yards.
23:05Yeah, just such a good job, not only to secure it, but keep it from hitting the ground.
23:10Washington's going to go fast here.
23:11I don't think they have to.
23:14Mariota, pressured by Phillips.
23:18Throws it out of bounds.
23:20Traylon Burks is another one of those guys that Dan Quinn was telling us he was excited to watch these last three games.
23:26It was not too long ago that Burks was a first-round pick, and you look at him, and you can see why.
23:32Just a great hands catch.
23:36To keep it from hitting the ground, secure it.
23:38It was not touched down by contact, so he got up and picked up a couple extra yards.
23:43Titans released him in October inside the practice squad in Washington, and has made the most of his opportunity.
23:53Second and 10 from the 44.
23:57Replaced, three passes.
23:58Debo Samuel has it knocked over by Quignan Mitchell.
24:01Let's go down to Pam Oliver.
24:05Well, Joe, I asked Nick Sirianni about his assessment of his team's play in that first half.
24:10He said, offense, we're doing well.
24:12Defense, we're doing well.
24:13Special teams, we've got to pick it up.
24:15My question then was, how do you come back and win the game?
24:18He said, offense is doing well.
24:20Defense is doing well.
24:21Special teams, not so much.
24:23As for the commander, Zan Quinn really liking what he's seen.
24:26Five, three, five, three.
24:27He said the message arrived violently, finished violently.
24:31He'd like to keep the commanders from Jalen Hurts and watching his scrambled red zone.
24:36We need touchdowns.
24:37Third and 10.
24:38The house is coming.
24:40Mariotta keeps it alive.
24:41Flags down as he looks for Burtz again, and it's incomplete.
24:45DeGene in coverage down there.
24:47Let's see what this flag is in the backfield.
24:50You have to imagine applying the immediate pressure.
24:53Yeah, you've got to imagine this is going to be a hold that they'll decline.
24:56Holding.
24:57Offense, number 26.
25:00That penalty's declined.
25:01The result of the play is fourth down.
25:04They're going to get McNichols.
25:05He does a nice job initially on Jihad Campbell up front,
25:08and then just kind of hock-ties him to the ground.
25:13And when they bring pressure like that, McNichols under,
25:16he's not thinking that that ball is going to be held that long.
25:20So, eventually, you're just going to break down in protection.
25:23So, they get the one big play to start the drive, but then have to punt it.
25:28Trust Wade.
25:29Remember, he had a fake punt completion in the championship game last year.
25:34Kavi with a fair catch.
25:36Short punt.
25:37Takes it at the 16.
25:39Outside of Washington, D.C., in Landover, Maryland,
25:42it's the Eagles and the Commanders of Saturday Night NFL.
25:46We're back after this.
25:47Big Game on Fox is sponsored by Royal Caribbean.
25:50It's big time.
25:51Josh Johnson beginning to warm up.
25:56Marcus Mariota looked like he was dealing with something there at the end of that drive,
26:00and then he went into the blue injury tent.
26:01So, Josh Johnson, who has been all over the place,
26:04but has taken just a few snaps this year, has not attempted a pass.
26:11Commanders are really hoping Mariota can stay in this game.
26:13Mariota, of course, in because Jaden Daniels is out.
26:20So, that was a play where it looked like it happened,
26:22and then when the drive ended, he headed into the tent.
26:26And we'll see.
26:27Philadelphia for its first drive of this half.
26:29It'll begin with the 17-yard line.
26:32Better than average in the first half in terms of yardage,
26:35but just the one touchdown.
26:37It's Barkley.
26:38Has a hole over the right side.
26:40He's stopped by Bobby Wagner as they start this second half
26:43with Hurts under center.
26:46Saw a lot of it last week.
26:49And that great performance at home against the Raiders.
26:52Just continue to experiment with as many different things,
26:55not only to try to just get Saquon Barkley going,
26:58get this run game going,
26:59but just get some first down efficiency
27:02and stay out of those second and third and longs
27:05where they become so much more pass game dependent.
27:09Got five on that first down play.
27:13On second and five, play action.
27:21Smith.
27:23Devontae Smith with the first down.
27:25Well, Nick Sirianni told Pam Oliver,
27:27special team's bad, defense good, offense good.
27:31If I'm an Eagles fan, I'm sitting here saying,
27:33okay, we got the 31 points last week,
27:35starting to feel good about the evolution.
27:37But I'm like, where did that go?
27:39Well, they're not playing the Raiders.
27:41Yeah, but Washington's defense, not much better statistically.
27:46And listen, I think they've got to get back to that under center,
27:49play action, cut those splits down,
27:52start introducing some more of that today.
27:55Dallas Goddard's first catch of the ball game.
27:57He's got eight yards.
28:00You know, I think it's easy, right?
28:01You hear a lot of the Eagles fans,
28:02you hear a lot of the national commentators say,
28:05all right, just get under center.
28:07What's such a big deal?
28:08Why not just get under center and activate that run game
28:10instead of being from the gun?
28:12And I think it really comes down to the simple,
28:15if you're going to operate as a good under center run game,
28:18it's only as good as your ability to operate
28:20as an under center passing game.
28:23Pass out of the gun here and rhythm to the sideline.
28:26And that is Jahan Doxon, your first round pickup.
28:29The Commanders traded to Philly last year, first catch today.
28:32So what I mean by that is you can't have two separate offenses.
28:36You can't have an under center run game
28:37and a shotgun passing game.
28:39So you're naturally going to condense your formations
28:42when you're under center.
28:43You're going to really bring those outside receivers in tight
28:45to control some of the run game looks.
28:48So naturally your types of routes
28:50that you're going to implement in the passing game
28:52are going to look very different
28:53compared to when you align out wide.
28:55On first and ten, throw to the sideline.
28:58Diving catch to Vontae Smith
29:00against Jonathan James.
29:03Smith has his sixth catch of this game.
29:13Now just to further that discussion about
29:15the differences, the trade-offs,
29:17Jalen Hurts as Mariota jogs back towards the locker room.
29:20Bad sign for the Commanders.
29:22Hurts for a lot of his career has been,
29:24for most of his football life has been a shotgun passer,
29:27but typically under center is more quarterback friendly,
29:30and his numbers have been better when he's been under center.
29:39Add it to Barkley on second and short,
29:41and he'll give him a first down to the 40.
29:43All right, so it's a larger discussion than just its impact on the run game.
29:51It's your ability to also then marry those plays
29:54and operate in the passing game.
29:56We know Jalen Hurts, he wants to throw the ball
29:57to the outer half of the field,
29:59the outer thirds by the numbers,
30:01so you can do that with deep crossing routes,
30:03and then of course you can do that with just out-breaking routes,
30:06but when you're out by the numbers in a spread,
30:08it's go balls, hitches, and slants,
30:11so it's two very different style passing games.
30:14Deep drop.
30:15He's pressured.
30:16Turning the shoulders, keeping his eyes downfield,
30:18and ultimately nobody open.
30:21Yvonne Kinloch.
30:23The pressure there, second and ten.
30:24So, again, it's kind of a fun conversation
30:27as you start talking about why don't teams, you know,
30:30make such, it seems on the surface such an easy fix, right?
30:34Just take all the same plays that you're going to run
30:36and just change where the quarterback stands,
30:38but as you start layering it into all aspects of your offense,
30:42it's actually a bigger task to evolve into that style
30:46than maybe everybody thinks.
30:48First time into the game for Tink.
30:50Bixby had a big load last week with a big lead they had.
30:54Bixby deploys out to the right.
30:58And now a join Hurts in the backfield.
31:02Design run for Hurts.
31:03Into a wall.
31:05Planted by Bobby Wagner.
31:0823 tackles away from becoming the third player in NFL history
31:13to reach 2,000.
31:14Ray Lewis, former Washington linebacker London Fletcher,
31:18and pretty soon Bobby Wagner.
31:20Just one of the more incredible careers of any linebacker
31:23who's ever played.
31:25No-brainer Hall of Fame future.
31:27And it's not only the production,
31:29you mentioned 100-plus tackles every year,
31:32but the longevity, the ability to stay healthy,
31:35let alone the ability to just do this at this age.
31:38It's just a remarkable career.
31:41Both his time in Seattle where I had the opportunity
31:43to be a teammate and see it firsthand back in 2020.
31:47Swing it outside to Shipley.
31:50And he's tackled in the open field by Igbenogany.
31:53Noah Igbenogany with a big stop right there.
31:56Philadelphia's been in third and long the whole game.
31:58They are now 0-4 on third down,
32:00and this is in Jake Elliott's range,
32:03but I'm not sure they're turning to him.
32:04Yeah, I think Nick Sirianni has to completely,
32:06again, he's always been a very progressive fourth down,
32:09and very early adopter.
32:11You think back to the initial Super Bowl run years ago.
32:15They were ahead of the curve,
32:16so he's always been a forward thinker
32:18in the use of fourth down,
32:19and now you factor in the struggles of your kicker,
32:21and I don't blame him.
32:24Orange! Orange!
32:26Fourth and seven.
32:31Four-man rush.
32:33Hurts with all day.
32:34Points a man out.
32:35There's a flag down as he looks for Brown,
32:37and it's picked off by Kwan Martin.
32:41Kwan Martin with the interception.
32:46Lost him about 30 yards,
32:49depending on what this penalty is.
32:51Right into the pass.
32:53Illegal contact.
32:54Defense number three.
32:56It's a five-yard penalty.
32:57Automatic first down.
32:58It's Will Harris.
33:00Second time today.
33:01A fourth down penalty has kept the Eagles alive.
33:04There's just no need for Will Harris
33:07to wrap his arms around Dallas Goddard.
33:09He's running a simple over route.
33:12Just play with some depth.
33:14There's no need to wrap your arms around him,
33:16and here's the second reaction scramble drill.
33:19Hurts just trying to give A.J. Brown a chance downfield,
33:22but there's nowhere to go with the ball,
33:25and Washington bails him out.
33:27Washington was penalized 11 times last week,
33:31able to overcome that
33:32because they were playing the Giants
33:33with some key penalties
33:34against the first-place club today.
33:37Barkley never could get going.
33:38Preston Smith was in there first.
33:45So think back to that early touchdown drive
33:48where Philadelphia came out
33:50and empty backfield.
33:51Everybody was numbers to numbers,
33:53and we talked how they kind of trapped Washington
33:55with all those linebackers on the field.
33:57Well, since those first two drives,
33:59Dan Quinn has completely flipped his strategy.
34:02They've gone predominantly more nickel,
34:04just trying to get more defensive backs
34:07on the field to defend this passing game.
34:11Everybody in there tight on second and 10.
34:16Fake to Barkley.
34:17Hurts boots.
34:18Has Goddard open.
34:19Feeds him.
34:20Goddard slips by a defender,
34:22and he's thrown out by Lou Vue.
34:23A yard short, third and one.
34:28There you go.
34:29There's a great example.
34:31Looks like the second down run.
34:33Real tight splits, under center play action,
34:35and then you get Hurts on the perimeter.
34:38He can take an easy check down
34:40right in front of him.
34:40The Goddard, and of course,
34:41he's always active as a runner.
34:44It's Barkley.
34:45He's got a first down,
34:46made a man miss in the backfield,
34:48and got two on third and one.
34:50Washington's got to feel like,
34:52relatively speaking,
34:53they've done a pretty good job on Saquon Barkley.
34:55It seemed like every time you turn on the TV
34:58between these two teams last year,
34:59he was running wild.
35:01Today, just 54 yards on 13 carries.
35:03First drive of the second half for the Eagles.
35:14Barkley, just a yard.
35:17And again, it's Bobby Wagner who's in there.
35:21Nick Sirianni said he's one of those guys
35:23that it seems like he always knows exactly what you're doing.
35:27Yeah, he brought up, he goes,
35:27man, Olsen reminds me of your teammate Luke Keek.
35:30He's like, you'll be standing on the sideline,
35:31and next thing you know, this guy's yelling out to play,
35:34and quarterbacks are kind of looking at us like,
35:36should we stick with it, or should I check out of it?
35:39Do we care that he knows
35:40the combination of physical skills,
35:44his approach, his mentality,
35:45is just a very unique player
35:47that's done it for a long time.
35:50Dan Quinn called him a one-percenter.
35:53Second and nine.
35:55Barkley swings out, and he's open.
35:56Hurts has his eyes downfield, though.
35:59Dotson.
36:00Yes, Hill.
36:01Oh, Bobby Wagner, vicious.
36:06Just so good.
36:09Every high school coach needs to take this clip
36:13and show their players how to two-man open field tackle.
36:18So right now, Frankie Lubu's yelling,
36:20out, out, out.
36:21Bobby Wagner's yelling, in, in, in.
36:23You tackle the hip.
36:24That's how you don't get juked and miss a tackle
36:27in the open field, and that's teach tape.
36:2935-year-old looking, plenty fresh.
36:33Another third down for the Eagles.
36:35And it's third and long again.
36:39Mama.
36:40Good luck, good luck.
36:45Hurts, rolls.
36:47Hurts throws for the A-zone.
36:49Incomplete.
36:49There is a flag, and there's another.
36:53Couple of flags on the field.
36:58But now, when he was trying to stick with Devontae Smith,
37:02flag in the end zone, and then a flag around the five.
37:06Big discussion here.
37:27Multiple flags.
37:29There are two fouls on the play, both on the defense.
37:31Prior to the pass, holding defense number 20.
37:35That pill has declined.
37:37Passer fans, defense, in the end zone.
37:40That pill accepted the ball in place.
37:42First down on the one-yard line.
37:44Well, now it's Washington that can't get out of their own way.
37:47Yeah, these are just really stressing the coverage,
37:50and it's just because Jalen Hurts has all this time to extend the play.
37:54You see, Ibn Aghani just trying to stay attached to Devontae Smith.
37:59I just, I just don't, I don't see pass interference on that.
38:05Unless he grabbed him earlier before he ran that back line.
38:09First down and goal.
38:11Hurts trying to sneak it in.
38:13And they pull at him.
38:15Tugging back.
38:17Jason Martin playing a good game.
38:18You get credit for the tackle and getting a little bit chippy here after the play.
38:22Yeah, these guys need to get used to each other.
38:25Need to learn to play nice.
38:26Two meetings the last three weeks.
38:28I'm with you, Greg.
38:29I mean, this kind of contact happens most plays.
38:32All right, so let's go back and look at the whole thing.
38:34So he's clearly just trying to go scramble drill.
38:37He sees Jalen Hurts.
38:38So he's now just trying to get in phase.
38:40I just, I just don't see a penalty.
38:45Second trial for Philly.
38:47Same thing.
38:48Flags fly on the near side.
38:53And this is going to be the second false start of the day in a tush-push formation.
39:03This team's taking turns shooting themselves in the foot.
39:08False start.
39:09Offense.
39:10Number 69.
39:12It's a five-yard penalty.
39:14Still second out.
39:14First guard, Landon Dickerson.
39:16See his helmet right here.
39:17Let's see if he moves.
39:19Wow.
39:20I'll tell you what.
39:21These officials have incredible eyes.
39:23Because we're looking at about, I don't know the fancy terms of how many frames per second.
39:28That is like super slow-mo.
39:30So, I mean, he is moving a frame.
39:32Even on the super slow-mo, it's barely.
39:34It's a frame early.
39:36And that's how they want this enforced.
39:39They're going to let Philly continue to run this, which I am a huge proponent of the quarterback sneak.
39:45The way Philly does it, I think, is a huge weapon.
39:47And they should be allowed to do it.
39:48But, obviously, they're going to officiate it very tightly.
39:52Went to a vote this offseason.
39:54Some of the league wanted to get rid of it.
39:56But it stood.
39:57And, like you said, the emphasis just is officiate it very closely.
40:04I mean, that is a fraction.
40:08I don't know.
40:09I think we can get carried away trying to overdo it.
40:12You can see his hands do move.
40:16That official's got good eyes.
40:20Eagle eyes.
40:23Second and go back at the six after the penalty.
40:2516th play of this drive.
40:28Barkley.
40:32Third and go.
40:33It has been tough sledding for Saquon Barkley today.
40:36Sheldon Day, Bobby Wagner combined in there.
40:39Jalen Holmes is in as well.
40:42The Washington defense that has been one of the worst in the league all year.
40:48Dan Quinn had to take over the defensive coordinator duties from Joe Witt about a month ago.
40:53Modest improvement since then.
40:55This is as good of a game as this Washington defense has played.
40:59Back now to the empty.
41:02Clear that middle.
41:03Remember, Jalen Hurts, you don't leave enough guys in that box.
41:08Quarterback draws always on the table.
41:10It's all just a number count.
41:12Third down and goal.
41:14Hurts.
41:15Pressured.
41:15Looked like there was a hold, and there is.
41:17They're going to get Fred Johnson for the hold.
41:19The toss to the end zone is caught for a touchdown by Dotson, but this is going to get wiped away.
41:24Fred Johnson just yanked Jacob Martin to the ground.
41:27Holding.
41:29Holding.
41:30Offense number 74.
41:32It's a 10-yard penalty.
41:33Replay.
41:34Third down.
41:38I think you're the only guy that hasn't had a flag called on him.
41:41This is incredible.
41:41This hold possession, you see Fred Johnson right here, again, replacing Lane Johnson.
41:47The all-pro right tackle, and just clearly gets beat around the edge and just has no choice but to just grab Martin.
41:54And now it's going to be third and goal from the 15th.
41:58What was first and goal from the one?
42:00Again, it goes back to the quarterback sneak, the tush push.
42:03They fail the first time, and then they get the false start.
42:06So what had always been the ace in the hole for this Eagles offense?
42:10He showed you the numbers in the first half.
42:12This season just not nearly as effective.
42:14The domino effected everything.
42:16One to snap it.
42:17They just barely get it off.
42:19Hurts steps up.
42:20Rips it.
42:21In zone.
42:22Got it.
42:22Touchdown, Philly.
42:26Wow.
42:26On their last breath of the drive, Jalen Hurts finds Got it from 15.
42:37That's as good a throw as you can make at the quarterback position.
42:42He's moving up in the pocket, up and right, buying a little extra time.
42:47That is a tight window, high and away, where only his big-body tight end can go up and get it.
42:55It's a big-time play there by Jalen Hurts.
42:576'5", Dallas Goddard against 6'4", Carl Martin, and you said it.
43:03Put it up there where only Goddard could get it.
43:05His 10th touchdown of the season.
43:07That ties the franchise record for a tight end.
43:09It caps off a 17-play wild drive.
43:14Eagles back in.
43:15Triple header starting at 1 p.m. Eastern on Netflix.
43:19Stream games live on your mobile device with NFL+.
43:22Today's game on Fox is sponsored by Little Caesars, the official pizza sponsor of the NFL.
43:27All right, so watch Mike Sainer still.
43:30He's had a pretty good game.
43:31You're going to get a corner out.
43:33And every team in America runs this play.
43:35They call it Indy.
43:36They run it Colt.
43:38You know, it goes back to the Peyton Manning days.
43:40Two follows and a corner.
43:42Sainer still has to know.
43:43It's third and goal on the 15.
43:45You don't have to stay flat-footed on Dotson's five-yard route.
43:50Play with depth.
43:52Make them throw it short of the goal line.
43:53Rally, tackle, bring up fourth down.
43:56It's just not great awareness of the situation, and Jalen Hurts makes them pay.
44:00Eagles make them pay.
44:01So many times on their drive, it looked like Washington was ready to get off of the field.
44:06The illegal contact penalty on fourth down, and then the defensive pass interference on third down.
44:11And the touchdown for Dallas Goddard has Philadelphia back in front.
44:16Chris Moore stops out of the 30 and down to Pam.
44:19Joe, Marcus Mariota was evaluated for a concussion while he was in a medical tent a while ago.
44:25He cleared that, but Mariota's got a right-hand injury that has a status for the game listed as questionable.
44:32All right, Pam.
44:33So it is Josh Johnson.
