00:00...what Future House is all about.
00:04We're building three houses for three families in just three months.
00:10Using three different budgets and three different modern methods of construction.
00:16My mission with this project?
00:18These houses must be stylish, sophisticated and above all, sustainable.
00:24Now we may not solve Australia's housing crisis, but we're going to give this a red hot go.
00:30So who are the three brave families who are joining us on this mission?
00:38The Fox family from Blue Mountains, New South Wales, are building two modular homes on the same block.
00:45So they can care for their disabled daughter, Kate.
00:48So here is where Mummy's house is. This is a bit strange, isn't it?
00:52Because Mummy's got a house and Daddy's got a house.
00:55It hasn't been without its challenges.
00:56There's definitely a lot of anxiety going on, you know, paying that last instalment.
01:01But in the race to the finish, their two factory-built houses are well on their way.
01:07Then there's the Quichini family from Canberra, who are building a precast concrete home.
01:13Their home made a successful landing, appearing so fast it was as if it had fallen from the sky.
01:19It's all been in theory until this point.
01:21And my family, of course, the Juries, in the northern rivers of New South Wales.
01:28Our beautiful 3D concrete printed home is going nowhere fast.
01:33DA is going in as we speak, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
01:37This is impossible.
01:38Tonight, I meet a family who hasn't had an energy bill in years.
01:45So you're actually making money.
01:47Yeah.
01:47From your own battery.
01:49And we'll show you how you can do the same.
01:51Instead of getting charged, we actually make money every year.
01:54The Quichinis power ahead as Sarah takes charge.
01:57Two, and then the fan, and then two.
02:00Time to add some personal touches.
02:02Do you want to put your handprint on them?
02:04Yeah.
02:04That's it. Good girl.
02:06After months of red tape and financial stress, the Foxes get some good news.
02:13Ready to put it on the truck next week and deliver.
02:16Woo-hoo!
02:17As house day arrives.
02:18Suddenly everything changes.
02:20You've got to start again a new life.
02:24But for me, it seems disaster is still around every corner.
02:29Such a small amount of time, Jamie.
02:30I can't give those ideas oxygen if I can't even get a DA approved.
02:37So I take matters right to the top.
02:39Is Australia the home of red tape?
02:41Red tape's a massive problem.
02:43Despite all the challenges, we're pushing this to the limit.
02:46Keep going, Ash.
02:47We're two months into our three-month-long mission
02:57to build the house of the future.
02:59I've come to Canberra to check on how the Quichinis are going
03:03with their future house.
03:06Well, I have just driven past the site
03:09and it seems there's a house there.
03:14And there wasn't a couple of weeks ago.
03:32Mate!
03:33How are you?
03:34You've built a house.
03:36Pretty much, yeah.
03:37Wow!
03:38She's a decent size, isn't she?
03:40It's a custom 300 square metre home.
03:42It's not your average four bedroom.
03:45Takes up nearly the whole block.
03:47Custom rake sealant, steel.
03:49Yeah.
03:50Mate, I don't think I've ever seen anything go up this quickly.
03:54You've got the roof and the walls and the slab all in place
03:59and you're 11 days in.
04:01Correct.
04:01It's incredible.
04:03It's a good way to build, isn't it?
04:04Oh, mate.
04:05Mate.
04:07After years of planning and months of red tape and heartache
04:10for Sean and Sarah,
04:12the speed with which their house has gone up
04:14is certainly welcome news.
04:16You've got a house.
04:17Yeah, we do.
04:18Wow.
04:18Yeah, we do.
04:19Look at this.
04:19The last time I was here, it was just garden.
04:22Yes.
04:23Yeah.
04:23The progress in the time frame is just phenomenal.
04:26It just went up so fast.
04:29It's just really lovely and exciting to see
04:31because you can finally get to see it in three dimensions.
04:33It's not just a picture on the paper that you've had in your head for a long time.
04:38This is actually how it's going to feel.
04:39A bit steeper than it was last time.
04:43It is a little bit steeper.
04:43Because your house seems to have sunk.
04:46Yes.
04:46Just a little.
04:47Yes, just a little bit.
04:48We were expecting to be entering right about here, walking straight in.
04:51The ACT's solar encroachment rules resulted in the Quachinis
04:56having to lower the level of their house
04:58and cop an additional 31K in excavation costs,
05:03which means that their new home is sitting in a big, costly hole.
05:08Well, I've got to say,
05:09I quite like it because it really feels like it's invested into the landscape now.
05:15Yeah, I quite like it too, actually.
05:17Yeah.
05:17And actually what's happened now that the house is low
05:21is you're looking straight at the garden
05:23instead of staring at everyone on the street.
05:25Yes.
05:27Now, what's this room?
05:29This is going to be the gym.
05:31The gym?
05:32Yeah.
05:32So bougie.
05:33One of the big things about our design
05:35was having a place that we could just take care of ourselves.
05:38Yeah, yeah.
05:39Because we've always been living in small spaces
05:40with everyone on top of each other.
05:42Yeah.
05:42And I do a lot of physio and a lot of rehab because of injuries.
05:46Yeah.
05:47Sarah, it's right.
05:48I can't get to the gym because of kids.
05:49It's impossible, isn't it?
05:51Since I've had kids, I've put on five kilos.
05:54Only five.
05:55Only five, mate.
05:56Yes.
05:57Thanks so much.
05:58Thanks so much.
06:00This is the kids' playroom.
06:01Oh, yeah, great.
06:02Nice access into the garden.
06:04These are kids' bedrooms.
06:05Yeah.
06:06One, two, three.
06:07Yeah.
06:07Yep.
06:07Great.
06:08Their space is right next to them.
06:09They can easily just walk straight out and play in the garden.
06:12And then the parents are at the front of the house...
06:14Yes.
06:14...guarding the family.
06:15Yes.
06:17And this is your big, lofty, northern outlook...
06:21That's our northern aspect.
06:22...that sucks in all that beautiful winter sun.
06:24Yes.
06:24So good.
06:26Yeah.
06:26It's nice to actually see it and be like,
06:28yes, this is great.
06:29This is, you know, what we wanted.
06:32It's just all happening faster than...
06:35I knew it would be quick,
06:36but it's all just happened very, very quick.
06:38Safe to say you'll definitely be in well before Christmas.
06:42Yes.
06:42Would you like to hear how mine's going?
06:44Yes.
06:45Yes, please.
06:47We haven't even laid the slab yet.
06:49Yeah.
06:49Yeah.
06:51So old fashioned.
06:53I know.
06:53I know you find that hilarious.
06:56Once the slab goes in...
06:57Yeah.
06:58..all the rest of the components will be 3D printed.
07:02At least that's what I hope.
07:04In the Blue Mountains of New South Wales,
07:09Michael and Helen's vacant block
07:11is being prepped for the arrival
07:13of their twin modular homes.
07:17In terms of site works, per se,
07:20like a traditional builder,
07:21there's very little work that we have to do for site works,
07:24or hardly any.
07:25That's because the houses are completely finished
07:28in the factory
07:29and then loaded onto trucks and delivered.
07:32Both Fox homes are at the eight-week mark
07:35and they're almost complete.
07:37The only thing left is to drop it in on site.
07:40By end of this week,
07:42we would have had all of the,
07:43what we call finish-offs and fit-offs,
07:45everything completed,
07:46and then soon after that,
07:48it'll be rocking up for installation.
07:49Hello. Hi, Rex.
07:57Hello.
07:58Helen, how are you?
07:59Your favourite person.
08:00Really, really nice to see you.
08:02Your house has come leaps and bounds.
08:05We are pretty much ready to put it on the truck
08:08and deliver.
08:09Woo-hoo!
08:10OK, I'm going to show you,
08:12I'm going to flip the camera around.
08:13OK.
08:14It's still painting underway.
08:15Almost done, Sonny.
08:17Almost done.
08:17All your bench-top,
08:21torn bench-tops,
08:21but they are non-carcinogenic,
08:23obviously no silica.
08:24Wow.
08:25So it's been cut already.
08:26Fantastic.
08:27And my sink is in.
08:28Oh, my gosh.
08:29Look at that.
08:30It looks so good.
08:31Beautiful.
08:31I love it, love it, love it.
08:33Love the cabinetry.
08:34It's beautiful.
08:35Your tiling is done.
08:37My tiling.
08:39Oh, it's gorgeous.
08:40No, it's beautiful workmanship.
08:42Thank you, Helen.
08:44Thank you, Michael.
08:45It's a great pleasure.
08:48While the Quichinis from Canberra
08:50and the Foxes from the Blue Mountains
08:52have both made spectacular progress
08:54building their homes,
08:56I'm stuck in limbo,
08:58waiting for my development application
09:00to be approved.
09:02We're battling the clock
09:03and time is our enemy.
09:05Even my builders are losing confidence.
09:08I think it's just like such a small amount of time, Jamie,
09:11you know.
09:11I know it's crazy,
09:12but I just want to give it a red-hot go.
09:16The hard facts are putting DAs in is a punish.
09:20It's slow.
09:21It's laborious.
09:22I need to ramp this up
09:24if we're going to get this thing built.
09:25Well, we're off to the town planner's office.
09:32Weeks are slipping by
09:34and I've still got nothing from council.
09:38Not even a notice.
09:43I'm not just worried.
09:44I'm up at night.
09:46Not just for the show,
09:48but for the family.
09:52I promised Amika
09:54I wouldn't put her through it all again
09:55and here we are again.
09:58Things have been stalling
10:00and I'm not going to hit this deadline.
10:02I mean, my whole life's hanging on this.
10:08It's not just my family and I.
10:10It's a whole bunch of really fantastic,
10:15motivated partners
10:17who are doing inspirational things
10:19in the sustainability space.
10:21But I can't give those ideas oxygen
10:24if I can't even get a DA approved.
10:27Well, we're off to the town planner's office.
10:42Weeks are slipping by
10:43and I've still got nothing from council.
10:47I mean, my whole life's hanging on this.
10:53OK.
10:54There might be some light
10:57at the end of this tunnel.
10:59I just had a great meeting with the planners.
11:02NDC planners here in Lismore
11:04are bending over backwards to help me,
11:06which is great.
11:07I explained to them
11:08that it'll be an off-grid situation.
11:11It's the second 3D printed house in Australia.
11:14So this is really making history.
11:16We're really doing a lot of innovative stuff.
11:18So hopefully,
11:19with that in mind
11:21and a decent letter,
11:23we might be able to get this over the line
11:26and get it built
11:27before the deadline.
11:30Two fingers crossed.
11:33Please.
11:35That's one bit of good news.
11:37But now I've got another hurdle to overcome.
11:40Will my 3D print actually work?
11:43A few weeks ago,
11:47I was left devastated
11:49when the first test print
11:51of a concrete column
11:52for our dream 3D printed future house
11:55crumbled before my very eyes.
11:59Since then,
12:00there's been several more failures.
12:06What was the problem?
12:07The two accelerators that we used
12:08weren't actually mixed together properly.
12:10Okay.
12:13Now,
12:14I'm back again
12:15for one last test.
12:17Wow.
12:19We're getting there.
12:20Mate,
12:20this is...
12:21This is...
12:21This could...
12:22This might actually happen.
12:26So if we can't make this work,
12:28I think I'll book a ticket overseas
12:30and I'll never see Jamie ever again.
12:32So...
12:32The whole job is relying on...
12:35Obviously,
12:35we're printing the structure here.
12:37We're on our fourth test
12:38in the last sort of 10 minutes.
12:40But we're dialing it in.
12:43I'm putting on a brave face,
12:45but to be honest,
12:46my confidence is shaken.
12:48If this column doesn't get to 3 metres,
12:50we don't have a house.
12:54You got your 11 secret herbs since crisis?
12:56We do.
12:57But we're accelerating this mix
12:59right at the head.
12:59So in here,
13:00we're pumping in a liquid-based accelerant.
13:02Right.
13:02Just so that it'll cure
13:04so it can take the next layer on top.
13:06We've got a 38-second lap time at the moment.
13:08Okay.
13:08But look,
13:09as we dial it in,
13:10we'll get down to about a 20-second lap time,
13:11I imagine.
13:12Yeah.
13:12So we're getting there.
13:14We're gonna get there.
13:15We have to get there.
13:16Bugger all this technical stuff.
13:18I just want to get it to 3 metres
13:20or about three times my height.
13:23Look,
13:23we're doing a hell of a lot of testing now
13:25and we haven't got long to get it right
13:27because this is a brand-new printhead.
13:29It's a brand-new sort of methodology
13:31for us to be able to print vertically
13:33in one go very fast.
13:46We've got two more layers left.
13:47It's at about three metres high.
13:48Push it to 3.1,
13:49so I'm confident,
13:51semi-confident.
13:54Mate, you did it!
13:55We did.
13:56You did it!
13:57Finally!
14:00I won't tell you I was concerned.
14:02Satisfaction.
14:04Absolutely.
14:05Only another 32 to go.
14:06That's true, actually.
14:07Yeah.
14:15In Canberra,
14:16the Corchini's new pre-cast concrete home
14:18has come a long way.
14:21It's a bit different with the roof on, isn't it?
14:22It is different with the roof on.
14:24It's sort of...
14:24And it's cooler in here, too, now.
14:25Yeah.
14:26With the RezyCast process,
14:28once the walls come in,
14:30the house is built
14:31just like any other house.
14:33So it's another big day
14:34for owner Sarah
14:35and builder Mick
14:37as the electricals and plumbing
14:38are being roughed in.
14:40Well, it's good to have the boss on site,
14:42really, now.
14:42Yeah, he is.
14:43The other fella talks too much,
14:45just saying.
14:47You sleep?
14:48Yes.
14:49So he should be right.
14:50And like all mums with young kids,
14:52Sarah doesn't have time to muck around.
14:55So, with lights,
14:56so we've got one over the lounge area
14:58and one over the dining.
15:00Dining, yep.
15:00And then we also,
15:00we're going to get some down lights.
15:02Yeah.
15:02Two, and then the fan,
15:04and then two.
15:05Right, one, two.
15:06That's all about, right?
15:06Yep.
15:07The fridge and the ovens
15:08are next to the fridge.
15:08Yep, got those two ovens,
15:09one above the other.
15:10Yep.
15:10We're going to get a robot vacuum.
15:12So that has been a dream for a while.
15:15I'm optimistic all the toys
15:16will stay in the playroom.
15:17Ah, yes, never happens.
15:18So there's the shower.
15:22Yep, which I've sort of marked out.
15:23That's roughly where you've asked,
15:24haven't I?
15:24Yes.
15:25We're going to put niches in now.
15:27Oh.
15:27Instead of...
15:29Well, dude,
15:29what's going to have a shelf?
15:31We've already tied on space.
15:32Where do these niches go?
15:34Glad I was here
15:35to sort out a few tiling things
15:36that I thought about
15:39but didn't actually tell anyone.
15:41Oh.
15:42I know I'm a pain.
15:44Should have sent Sean here instead.
15:46Yeah.
15:46Yeah.
15:48It's one long, though.
15:50A bit longer?
15:51A bit longer.
15:54I have a lot of things
15:56because I'll be sitting
15:57with my head at that end, yeah.
15:59Yeah, yeah.
15:59Sitting in the bath with my wine.
16:00This is actually Sarah time.
16:02It is.
16:03Mick may have built the house
16:04but it's clear who's in charge now.
16:06Lock all the doors,
16:07sit in the bath.
16:08Now the kids will be down there
16:09so I won't be able to hear them screaming.
16:11I'll just be in my little oasis down here.
16:14Hello.
16:14Hello.
16:16Are you waking up?
16:17Or is she?
16:18Oh, we're going to be cranky.
16:20No, we're cranky.
16:27Our time in the Northern Rivers
16:29on the farm
16:29with the kids
16:31and my beautiful Amika
16:32is just idyllic.
16:35The fresh air,
16:36the rolling hills
16:37and the farm animals.
16:39There's only one thing missing
16:41in my hashtag farm life
16:42something every Fairdinkum farmer needs.
16:52It's full range.
16:54That's a lot of tractors.
16:56We have 30 different categories
16:58and over 100 different models.
17:01Sold about 35,000 different machines.
17:04Wow.
17:05Turns out buying a tractor
17:08is a little trickier
17:09than I thought.
17:10Fortunately,
17:11I've got my mate Dazza on hand
17:13to guide me through
17:14Tractor 101.
17:16Mate,
17:16this is amazing.
17:17This is what you need
17:18in a paddock.
17:19Big stature.
17:21Tinted glass.
17:23Off.
17:23Air-conditioned.
17:24Australia.
17:25Wow.
17:27Who's going to be teaching me?
17:29Unfortunately, me.
17:29Farm life,
17:35here we come.
17:37Woo-hoo!
17:41I've got a new toy
17:42for the farm
17:43and it's safe to say
17:45it's my favourite toy.
17:51I can dig
17:52anywhere I like.
17:53I can plant.
17:54I can tow.
17:56I can trench.
17:57I can do anything
17:58with this thing.
17:59It's amazing.
18:04Look at your work.
18:06I thought this would be great
18:07and us working side by side.
18:10This is a dream come true, mate.
18:13Not for me, is it?
18:18Watch this.
18:20You ready?
18:22Dump in the load.
18:23Ha, ha, ha, ha.
18:29I think you should stick
18:32to his day job
18:33but maybe just do this
18:35one day on the weekends.
18:38Oh, my God.
18:42Now, I'm all about
18:43healthy, sustainable homes
18:45and the Cochinis are getting
18:47and the Cochinis are getting
18:47a new system
18:48that brings new meaning
18:50to fresh air.
18:52Today, we're putting in
18:53a HRV system.
18:54Yep.
18:54It's a heat recovery
18:55ventilation system, basically.
18:56What's the system designed to do?
18:58So, basically,
18:59what we're going to do here is
19:00we exchange all the entire air
19:02of the house
19:03in two-hour cycles
19:04or three-hour cycles.
19:06You don't have to open
19:07any windows, any doors, anymore.
19:08Ah.
19:08You can keep them shut.
19:09Yep.
19:10And you get constantly
19:11fresh air
19:12to prevent mould
19:14and moisture build-up
19:15in the homes.
19:15Yep.
19:16You need, actually,
19:16a ventilation system.
19:18For a healthy home, basically.
19:19Pretty much.
19:24The Cochinis are setting up
19:26a happy, healthy home.
19:28However,
19:28the Australian building landscape
19:30is anything but.
19:32Amidst a housing crisis,
19:33building a house in Australia
19:35is too hard,
19:37too slow
19:37and simply too expensive.
19:39So, I'm going to the top
19:41to find out
19:42what can be done about this.
19:44Well, here we are
19:45at Parliament House.
19:46I'm in the courtyard
19:48and we're about to meet
19:50the Minister for Housing,
19:52Minister O'Neill.
19:53Now, what Minister
19:54Claire O'Neill doesn't know
19:56is that I'm going to ask her
19:57for a bit of a favour.
19:59Thank you so much
20:00for making time for us today
20:02because you have a big
20:03job on your hands.
20:04That's absolutely right, Jamie.
20:05We've got,
20:06in Australia today,
20:07millions of people
20:08who are in some form
20:10of housing distress.
20:11The Federal Government's
20:12got a goal of trying
20:13to build 1.2 million homes
20:15in five years
20:16but we're not going to get there
20:17unless we see
20:18more innovation in housing.
20:20We are building homes
20:21in Australia
20:22basically the same way
20:23that we were 40 years ago
20:24and if we're going to build
20:25faster,
20:26we need that to change.
20:27So, what are we doing
20:28about making
20:29the practice of building
20:31your own home
20:32more affordable
20:33and more simple?
20:35Well, one of the main things
20:36that we can do
20:37is support innovation
20:38in housing.
20:39So, we'd like to see
20:40builders trying new ways
20:41of doing things
20:42and we know that the evidence
20:43overseas shows us
20:44that we actually can build homes
20:46a lot faster
20:47and a lot more efficiently.
20:48So, on our project,
20:50we're looking at
20:50tilt slab construction
20:51where you can have a house
20:53to lock up in 10 days.
20:54Oh, my gosh.
20:55However,
20:57the council
20:58restrictions
20:59took them
21:00four to six months.
21:02Is Australia
21:03the home of red tape?
21:05Red tape's
21:05a massive problem.
21:06I spend a lot of time
21:07talking to builders
21:08and they say to me,
21:09you know,
21:10Claire, the hard part
21:10used to be actually
21:11building the house.
21:12Now it's working
21:13through that thicket
21:14of red tape
21:15that lies in the path
21:16of them just laying
21:17that first brick.
21:18One of the challenges
21:19is that we've got
21:19three levels of government
21:20in Australia
21:21and for that
21:2240-year period,
21:23all those three levels
21:24of government
21:25have just been adding
21:25on new layers
21:26of red tape
21:27and regulation.
21:29Now, for that favour
21:30I was talking about.
21:32Claire, we're lucky enough
21:32to have the Green Building
21:33Council of Australia
21:34as one of our judges.
21:36As we judge
21:37these three different
21:38modern methods
21:39of construction,
21:40we would love it
21:41if you would come out
21:42and help us judge
21:43these new homes.
21:44Absolutely, Jamie.
21:45You had me in a low.
21:46Oh, yeah,
21:47that would be great.
21:49Coming up,
21:50the big call
21:51I've been waiting for.
21:53But is it good news?
21:55Did you speak
21:55with council?
21:57Amazing.
21:58And?
21:59And the fox's homes
22:01hit the road.
22:03It's really an exciting
22:04job that we have here.
22:12On our farm
22:13in the northern rivers,
22:14the warmer weather
22:15means everything
22:16is suddenly bursting
22:17into life.
22:19Everything,
22:19except for one
22:21small thing.
22:22Our 3D printed house.
22:31Damien?
22:32Yes, mate?
22:35Yes?
22:36Did you speak
22:37with council?
22:39Amazing.
22:40And?
22:41Yes!
22:43Ha!
22:43We got approval?
22:46Oh, mate,
22:46that's the best news
22:47I've had in years.
22:49It's incredible.
22:50Thank you so much
22:51for letting me know.
22:52Cheers.
22:55Yes!
22:55We got approval.
22:57I cannot believe this.
22:59That has to be
23:00an absolute record.
23:01So,
23:03Byron Shire Council
23:05said that they wanted
23:06to work with us
23:07because we were
23:09building something
23:09that was meaningful,
23:10sustainable,
23:11something that hopefully
23:12may spark a bit of change.
23:14and they've done it.
23:16They've pulled it off.
23:23In the Blue Mountains
23:24of New South Wales,
23:25the foxes share
23:26the same determination
23:27to bring their future
23:29houses to life.
23:30Not even a blast
23:31of cold and wet
23:32can stop the final
23:33preparations
23:34for the delivery
23:35of their two
23:36modular homes.
23:36Water mains
23:39are being connected.
23:41Hold this out.
23:43And the hole's dug
23:44for the piers
23:45on which the
23:46modular homes
23:46will rest.
23:49So, right now,
23:50we're just drilling
23:51this second module
23:52and we're just
23:53going a bit slower now
23:54because there's
23:55all these big tree roots.
23:58Yeah, this is a big job.
24:07It's all happening
24:08quickly now
24:09it's got to this stage.
24:11The modules,
24:12when they arrive,
24:13will be craned
24:14into position
24:14and fixed
24:15into the concrete footings.
24:17Leaving the comfort
24:18of our nice
24:19rental home,
24:20it's exciting,
24:21but it's,
24:22you know,
24:23a bit of fear too.
24:25Suddenly,
24:26everything changes.
24:27You've got to
24:27start again
24:28a new life
24:29and it should be good.
24:33It should be good.
24:33I'm sure we'll be happy
24:34once we get in there
24:35and, you know,
24:38yeah,
24:39wants to get rid
24:39of the drama
24:40of moving.
24:43It's my firm belief
24:44that every house
24:45in Australia
24:46should have a solar
24:47and a battery solution.
24:49You might remember
24:50last week
24:51that we helped
24:51sort out
24:52the Fox's solar system.
24:54What we're going
24:54to do for you guys
24:55is supply and install
24:5710 to 15 kilowatt
24:59of solar
24:59per house.
25:02Now, I know
25:03that some of you
25:03may need a little
25:04more convincing
25:05or information
25:06on the benefits
25:07of a solar
25:08and battery solution.
25:09But what if I told you
25:10it's possible
25:11to never pay
25:12an energy bill again?
25:14And on top of that,
25:15you can even make money.
25:17Well,
25:18I'm about to meet
25:19a family
25:19who I'm told
25:20has done
25:21exactly that.
25:23You got rid
25:24of your old
25:25energy retailer
25:26and swapped
25:26and moved over
25:27to Amber.
25:28These guys
25:29are the new
25:30energy market
25:31disruptors.
25:32In essence,
25:33their software
25:33runs your
25:35electricity supply.
25:36You don't really
25:37have to think
25:37about it.
25:38Every day,
25:38there's two peaks
25:39of power in Australia.
25:41Electricity becomes
25:42expensive when everyone
25:43gets home from work
25:44and first thing
25:45in the morning.
25:45Yes.
25:46Your solar system's
25:47got a battery.
25:47You store that energy
25:48in your battery
25:49and then when
25:50the peak price
25:51happens,
25:51they launch
25:52any extra power
25:53you've got
25:53in your battery
25:54that you're not
25:55using in your house.
25:56They sell it back
25:57to the grid
25:57at the peak price.
25:58And if you make
25:59any money
26:00between those
26:00two levels,
26:02they pass
26:02those profits
26:03back to you.
26:04Correct.
26:05That's our current
26:06bill
26:06for Amber.
26:09You're in credit?
26:10Yeah,
26:10for $2,300.
26:11Instead of getting
26:12charged,
26:12we actually make
26:13money every year.
26:14You are
26:15a future house.
26:16Yeah,
26:16we're living
26:17in the future.
26:17Installing
26:21solar and batteries
26:22isn't just good
26:23for the environment,
26:24it's also good
26:25for your hip pocket.
26:26But it does take
26:27a little upfront
26:28investment.
26:29Well,
26:30there's a brand
26:30new tool
26:31that can help
26:32you improve
26:32your home's
26:33energy efficiency
26:34and even
26:35help you finance it.
26:36Combank has
26:37developed the
26:37Home Energy
26:38Assessment Tool
26:39provided by
26:40Home Energy
26:41Australia.
26:42By simply
26:42entering your
26:43address into
26:44the online tool,
26:45it calculates
26:46the energy
26:47efficiency
26:47of your house
26:48and provides
26:49options on
26:50how you can
26:51improve it,
26:51including adding
26:53a solar system
26:53and batteries.
26:55Hey,
26:55let's see how
26:55this thing works.
26:56Yeah?
26:57Sure.
26:57Good.
26:59So it's pulling
27:00in all sorts
27:00of public
27:01information,
27:02including aerial
27:03photos.
27:04And there we
27:04have it.
27:06It's low.
27:07That doesn't
27:08look good.
27:08That is very low.
27:10So it's a 3.9
27:11out of 10,
27:11rather average.
27:13As you scroll
27:13down,
27:14you can see it
27:14provides you
27:15some suggestions
27:15around what
27:16you can do
27:17to upgrade.
27:17An obvious
27:18one is solar.
27:19And you can
27:19see here it
27:20actually helps
27:20you understand
27:21how much you
27:22might save
27:22after that
27:23upgrade.
27:23It even tells
27:24you how much
27:24it'll cost
27:25to install
27:26your solar
27:26panels.
27:27And if you
27:27scroll down
27:28here,
27:28it actually
27:28tells you
27:29what you
27:30might be
27:30eligible for
27:31in rebates.
27:32So let's
27:32say you
27:32want to go
27:33ahead with
27:33it.
27:33Yeah.
27:34It'll connect
27:34you to local
27:35installers.
27:36And if you
27:36need finance,
27:38Combank has
27:38a range of
27:39financing options
27:39off the back
27:40of it.
27:40So Combank
27:41will actually
27:41finance your
27:42solar system
27:43if you need
27:44to.
27:44Absolutely.
27:45I love this.
27:45These upgrades
27:46we will offer
27:47finance on.
27:48And if you
27:48are a Combank
27:49home loan
27:50customer,
27:50it is an
27:51incredibly
27:52competitive rate.
27:53So why
27:53isn't everyone
27:54in Australia
27:54doing this?
27:55Well,
27:55we're hoping
27:56with tools
27:56like this
27:57that take
27:57the hassle
27:57out of it,
27:58more people
27:58do.
28:01Now,
28:01I wouldn't
28:02recommend
28:02anything
28:03without testing
28:04it myself.
28:06So this
28:06is the spot,
28:07which is why
28:08I'm putting
28:09in the mother
28:09of all solar
28:10farms on
28:11my farm.
28:13What we're
28:13going to be
28:14doing is a
28:14ground mount
28:15system.
28:15It's going
28:16to sit
28:16on a frame
28:17and take
28:17up roughly
28:1770 square
28:18metres.
28:19We're going
28:19to be facing
28:20about this
28:20way here,
28:21towards that
28:21tree right
28:22there,
28:22basically,
28:22is your
28:23perfect
28:23north.
28:25We have
28:26three separate
28:27arrays,
28:29each 10
28:30kilowatt,
28:31and that'll
28:31total our
28:3230 kilowatt
28:32system.
28:33So this
28:34is the
28:34sun path
28:35moving relative
28:36to the
28:37array.
28:38We're going
28:38to have 30
28:39kilowatt
28:39of solar
28:39panels.
28:40That'll
28:40supply the
28:41home,
28:41and supply
28:42the big
28:42battery bank
28:43that we've
28:43got being
28:44installed,
28:4496 kilowatt.
28:46Well,
28:46that's about
28:47three times
28:47the size
28:48of an
28:48average
28:49home's
28:49solar
28:50panel
28:50system,
28:51and six
28:51times the
28:52amount
28:52of battery
28:53storage.
28:54I hope
28:54I'm not
28:54getting too
28:55carried away
28:55here.
28:56So you'll
28:56be running
28:57completely
28:57off the grid,
28:58no bill,
28:59no reliance
28:59on the
29:00electricity
29:00retailers,
29:01and in
29:02fact,
29:03because you'd
29:03pair up with
29:04Amber Electric
29:04as your
29:05retailer,
29:06trade wholesale
29:07prices,
29:07you'll be in
29:08credit year-round
29:09by a significant
29:09amount.
29:10So I'll have a
29:11holiday fund as
29:12well.
29:12You'll have a
29:13holiday fund.
29:15That's incredible,
29:16man.
29:16Exactly.
29:22Well,
29:22now that our DA's
29:23been approved,
29:24it's time to take a few
29:25more things up to the farm.
29:27Hey, kids,
29:28we're going to pack some
29:29toys for the farm.
29:32Well,
29:32today is move day,
29:34and I feel like I'm
29:36getting deja vu all
29:36over again.
29:38Okay,
29:38that's one down.
29:41Meeks,
29:42the Grace truck
29:42is here.
29:43Yeah.
29:43Yes,
29:48this is it.
29:50We're going to the farm.
29:52All of this insulation,
29:54that's going to go to the
29:56farm.
29:57We've got our hybrid
29:58vehicles,
29:59the first removal company
30:01in Australia to have
30:01fully electric trucks,
30:02so we're pretty proud of
30:03that.
30:04For longer distance
30:05removals,
30:06Grace also offers a
30:07train service,
30:09which is exactly what
30:10we're using.
30:1090% of the items
30:12we're sending in to
30:13save it through the
30:13rail network.
30:14So it's actually
30:15less carbon intensive
30:16to send it by train
30:17than truck.
30:18About 40% less carbon
30:19emissions by doing it
30:21through the rail network.
30:22Wow.
30:24Beds,
30:25obviously,
30:25got to go,
30:26kids,
30:26toys.
30:27Yeah,
30:27the crew will pull
30:28this apart.
30:28When we deliver,
30:29we put it all back
30:29together for you
30:30and put it in place
30:31as well,
30:31so you don't have
30:32to worry about that.
30:32That's dreamy.
30:34This was,
30:34yes,
30:35I don't envy the
30:36person putting this
30:36back together.
30:37It's not my forte.
30:39No,
30:39that's why we hide
30:40grace.
30:40That's why we get
30:41grace.
30:41Exactly.
30:42So good.
30:50Coming up.
30:53Problem solved.
30:54Mick gets the final
30:55piece of the puzzle
30:56in the race to lock-up.
30:58It's very exciting.
30:59And we put my windows
31:01to the ultimate test.
31:03I've got 500 kilometres
31:04an hour.
31:06Oh,
31:06****.
31:07In Canberra,
31:18at the Quichini's
31:19new precast concrete house,
31:21it's a big day.
31:22Just got to look for it.
31:23Oh,
31:23bloody hell.
31:26Only just learning to walk.
31:28And build a mix pump.
31:30Oh,
31:30because the final piece
31:32of the puzzle he's been
31:33waiting for is due to arrive.
31:35Put the windows in today
31:37and finally get a lock-up
31:38payment,
31:38which is good,
31:39so it becomes cash flow
31:40positive today.
31:42So very excited about that.
31:43Now,
31:44when it comes to lock-up,
31:45Mick made some big promises.
31:47You're not telling any jokes.
31:48No,
31:48we're going to lock
31:49the four beddy up
31:50for Sean and Sarah
31:51and the kids
31:52in 10 days.
31:53Due to factors
31:54out of Mick's control,
31:55it's ended up taking
31:5617 days
31:58to get to lock-up.
31:59But somehow,
32:00Mick still managed
32:01to keep the build
32:02on schedule.
32:03Overall time frame,
32:05we're not bad.
32:06We're still pretty much
32:06on track.
32:08We're just not
32:08at lock-up,
32:10but we're past lock-up
32:11in other places.
32:12Oh.
32:13Interim,
32:14like all the internal frames
32:15have gone up.
32:17To keep the build on track,
32:18Mick needs to get
32:20the windows installed
32:21today.
32:22So it's a big day today.
32:24No.
32:30The other issue too
32:31is the insulation's
32:32been booked in today
32:33because Chip Rock
32:34is on Monday.
32:37So, you know,
32:37we're going to be
32:38climbing over each other,
32:40which isn't ideal either.
32:42So it's going to be
32:42a fair bit of
32:43people management today.
32:46Fortunately,
32:46as a former Rodeo clown,
32:48Mick's an old hand
32:50at negotiating
32:50tricky situations.
32:55What's the trouble?
32:57Not sure what
32:58the problem is, Al.
32:59Something about
33:00a big door's
33:01got to go outside
33:01but the scaffold's there.
33:03So we'll go down
33:03and check it out, I think.
33:05Mick?
33:05Yes?
33:05Can we remove that noggin?
33:07100%, let's do it.
33:11Problem solved.
33:15All happening.
33:16These are thermal
33:23broken windows,
33:25double glazed.
33:27So really good
33:28between the precast
33:29to being spot on
33:30to the millimetre.
33:31There's no gap there,
33:32which is unreal.
33:33You know,
33:33that's what we're after.
33:35Another couple of hours
33:36and we should have
33:37them all in.
33:37And Sean and Sarah
33:40will have a locked up
33:41home.
33:41It's very exciting.
33:43Hello, Sarah.
33:45How are you?
33:46Good, how are you?
33:47Good.
33:48Very exciting day.
33:49I know.
33:50It's nice to see some windows.
33:51Now, when it comes
33:52to energy efficient design,
33:54these windows
33:54are simply the best
33:56in class.
33:57We all know
33:58about double glazing
33:59but now
33:59there's thermally
34:00broken windows.
34:01It's new technology
34:02that makes windows
34:04even more energy efficient.
34:05So what thermally broken
34:07does is actually
34:08stops that heat transfer
34:09or cold transfer
34:10and then keeps
34:11your house inside
34:11perfect.
34:13You've got the best glass
34:14and the best aluminium
34:15products you can
34:16on the market
34:16for this kind of climate
34:18and this build.
34:19With the windows in,
34:20the Quachini's house
34:21is at lock-up
34:22and all that's needed now
34:25is the final stamp
34:26of approval.
34:28Do you like the windows?
34:29Do you want to put
34:30your handprint on them?
34:31Yeah.
34:31Feel the windows.
34:33That's it.
34:34Rub it on.
34:35Come on, that's it.
34:36Good girl.
34:37Oh, look at that, eh?
34:40All your handprints.
34:41Good girl.
34:42I love you.
34:43Good girl.
34:44Very good.
34:45Do you like them?
34:46Good job.
34:47Very happy.
34:48Yeah, thank you.
34:49They're so good.
34:52Dowell windows
34:53in partnership
34:54with Ventus
34:55are doing
34:56some incredible things.
34:57Remember Grandma's
34:58old house
34:59with the classic
35:001950s louvers?
35:02Well,
35:02they've come
35:03a long way.
35:04Dowell and Ventus
35:05have reinvented
35:06the louver
35:07which means
35:08they've developed
35:09one of Australia's
35:10first twin blade louvers
35:12that not only
35:13increases your home's
35:14energy efficiency
35:15but also
35:16its acoustic performance.
35:19And I'm lucky enough
35:20to be using them
35:21in my design.
35:22But first,
35:23they have to be put
35:24to the test.
35:25This is a world first.
35:26I don't think
35:27we've ever had
35:28a double glazed louver
35:30in the history
35:31of Australian building,
35:32have we?
35:32Not a dual blade louver,
35:33no, definitely not.
35:34So the difference
35:35being a dual blade
35:36versus a double glazed,
35:37the aesthetics
35:38and the clear view
35:39you're going to get
35:39through it
35:39instead of a prison bar look.
35:41Are you really
35:41going to blow
35:42this window up?
35:42We're going to blow it up.
35:43We're going to turn it up
35:44to 300, 400 kilometres an hour.
35:46It's going to explode
35:47with positive pressure
35:48which is pushing
35:48on the window.
35:49Wow.
35:49So we want cyclone conditions,
35:51we want heavy rains,
35:53we want rain coming in sideways
35:54to see if it'll get
35:56through the louvers.
35:57We want heat,
35:57we want cold,
35:58we want everything, right?
35:59Smoke the whole lot.
36:00The objective of this test
36:02is to push the windows
36:03literally to their breaking point
36:05beyond what they'd ever
36:07experience in real life.
36:09Are you ready, Matt?
36:10I'm ready.
36:10Let's go.
36:11OK.
36:12All right, let's crank this baby up.
36:14Go to two,
36:15go to three,
36:16keep going.
36:16Where are we?
36:17Keep going.
36:18Now keep in mind,
36:19these louvers
36:19have never been tested
36:21to these sorts of winds.
36:23Matt and I moved back
36:35to a safer area
36:36to observe
36:37the ultimate destruction test.
36:40In the end,
36:40we reached 700 kilometres per hour
36:43before they reached breaking point.
36:46It's going to go.
36:47It will go this time.
36:48Oh!
36:49Oh, my God!
36:53Mate,
36:55what just happened then?
36:5710,000 old pascals,
36:58it's the highest
36:59that Ash has ever
37:00had his rig go to,
37:01so that's the first product
37:02to get that high in it
37:02so that you're pushing
37:03close to 700 kilometres an hour
37:06plus
37:07and you saw the result.
37:09The highest wind level
37:10ever recorded on the planet
37:12is 484 kilometres per hour
37:14and that was inside a tornado.
37:17So it's safe to say
37:18these louvers
37:19are almost indestructible.
37:21That was proper.
37:24That was fun.
37:25Well done.
37:26I told you to hang around
37:27and watch it.
37:27Yeah, mate,
37:27that's an extraordinary
37:28piece of technology.
37:31Coming up,
37:32the ResiCast building experiment
37:33that could change everything.
37:36Can you deliver cost effectively
37:38and can you do it at scale?
37:39And finally,
37:40Helen and Michael's new homes
37:42come home.
37:43It's so exciting.
37:44Now, if we're really
37:53going to solve
37:54the building crisis,
37:55then we need
37:56volume home builders
37:57to get on board.
37:59Builders like Domain Homes
38:00who build 500 homes a year.
38:03So a few weeks ago,
38:04I invited a team from Domain
38:06to see mixed ResiCast
38:08concrete system in action
38:10in the hope
38:11that they would take a risk
38:12and give it a go.
38:14Very impressive.
38:15Very impressive.
38:16Awesome.
38:16Today has proven
38:17that it's got some potential.
38:19So, yeah,
38:20we're going to have a go.
38:20We can get excited.
38:22I'm just excited.
38:24We can get, mate.
38:26Domain are trialling
38:27the ResiCast building method
38:29at Rouse Hill
38:30in Sydney's western suburbs.
38:32Matt Campbell
38:33is the CEO
38:33of Campbell Property Group
38:35who own Domain
38:36and Clarendon Homes.
38:39He's also the man
38:40who's putting his money
38:41where his mouth is.
38:42Here you are breaking ground
38:43on your very first
38:45ResiCast site.
38:47At the moment,
38:48it would appear
38:49that the ResiCast solution
38:50is a little bit more expensive
38:51than traditional
38:52bricks and mortar.
38:53Right.
38:54But time is money.
38:55Yes.
38:56So time is money
38:57for both us
38:57and our customers.
38:59So I suspect
39:00that there's time savings
39:01in there
39:02that we'll find out
39:05along the way.
39:05That'll give you the advantage.
39:06That'll give us, yeah,
39:07it'll mitigate those costs.
39:08Yeah.
39:09The real test
39:09for these modern methods
39:10of construction
39:11is can you deliver
39:13cost effectively
39:14and can you do it at scale?
39:16Let's hope
39:16for the future
39:17of Aussie housing
39:18Domain Homes' trial
39:20of Mick's ResiCast system
39:21is a success.
39:25In Canberra,
39:27Mick from ResiCast
39:28has built Sarah
39:29and Sean Quichini's home
39:30in record time.
39:32It's now time
39:33for them to join
39:34the solar and battery party.
39:35G'day, mate.
39:36Hey, how are you, Mick?
39:37How are you?
39:38Good.
39:38What have you got here?
39:39Well, I have
39:40REC solar panels.
39:41So if you look very closely,
39:43you cannot see any soldering
39:45between one cell and another.
39:46Oh, yeah.
39:47So that's a very unique
39:48technology that REC developed
39:50and that reduces
39:51the risk of micro cracks
39:53which could potentially
39:54impact the performance
39:55of the panel.
39:56All right.
39:57You want to chuck them up?
39:58Yes.
39:59Let's do it.
39:59Sean and Sarah
40:03have designed
40:03their future house
40:04so that all the solar
40:06and power generated
40:07up top
40:08is sent
40:09to their battery system.
40:13So this is a 40-kilowatt stack
40:15so it comprises
40:15of five 8-kilowatt modules.
40:17So you get an inverter on top.
40:19It also comes
40:20with a full backup system.
40:21We've got the gateway
40:22over there.
40:23So in the case
40:24of a blackout,
40:25this house will be powered up
40:26in less than a millisecond.
40:27The thing we love about it
40:28is how flexible it is.
40:29It doesn't take up much space.
40:31We can retrofit it
40:31to any system in the market
40:32or it's perfect
40:34for new installations.
40:35It's just a fantastic product.
40:37And to manage
40:38the household energy generation
40:40and use,
40:42they're also setting up
40:43a smart Amber system
40:44to manage their power.
40:46If you're doing
40:47the automation with Amber,
40:48your bill is actually
40:49going to go below zero
40:50and we reckon
40:51you're going to be
40:52around about
40:53$2,500 a year
40:54in credit.
40:56Nice.
40:56We can just retire
40:58and let the electricity
41:00pay the bills.
41:02It makes me really happy
41:03to see this system go up
41:05because not only
41:07are we going to be able
41:07to be off grid
41:08any time we need to be,
41:10but we're also producing
41:11more than we need
41:12and we can sell that
41:13back to the grid
41:14and actually make
41:15a bit of money
41:16off our own home
41:17just through passive income.
41:19So passive house design,
41:21passive income,
41:22it's a win-win.
41:23After 10 weeks
41:30of construction
41:31being built
41:31at the high-tech factory,
41:33the Fox's two modular homes
41:35are complete.
41:36Yep, we run through
41:37with our final checks.
41:39Yep, all good.
41:39Time to prepare
41:40the finished houses
41:41for transportation
41:44and delivery.
41:46Any sudden movement
41:47could spell disaster.
41:49Not even the ground
41:50in the tiles can move.
41:52If it's not done systematically,
41:54if it's not done carefully,
41:55there's a good chance
41:56of it locking, dropping,
41:58damaging the unit
41:59or even coming
42:00all the way to the ground.
42:04This is a two-module house.
42:07So whilst this is ready
42:08for lifting,
42:09the other house
42:10is being ready.
42:11Again, same process,
42:12put on the wheels
42:13and then the forklift
42:14will bring it out
42:15and then the next truck
42:16will come and start lifting.
42:17Each module weighs
42:22eight to nine tonnes
42:23and is over three metres wide
42:26and ten metres long.
42:30It's also up to four metres
42:32in height.
42:33We don't cut corners.
42:36Everything is done
42:36very, very precisely.
42:39We do a house a week.
42:41So it's a pretty,
42:43it's an exciting,
42:44it's really an exciting job
42:46that we have here.
42:50Loaded with their precious cargo,
42:52the trucks head off
42:53at night by escort.
42:58As they begin
42:59the slow and steady journey
43:00towards their final destination,
43:03up the hill
43:04to the Blue Mountains
43:05of New South Wales.
43:06Coming up,
43:09I check on
43:10my little patch of dirt.
43:11Mate, who designed this thing?
43:13Um, some galoot.
43:15But the reality is
43:16there's a long way to go.
43:25In the Blue Mountains
43:27of New South Wales,
43:28it's a momentous occasion
43:29for Michael and Helen Fox.
43:33This is so exciting.
43:34Woo!
43:36Very good.
43:41Their two brand new
43:42modular homes
43:43are about to be delivered.
43:47After winding their way
43:48through the mountains
43:49overnight,
43:50the trucks
43:51carefully squeeze their way
43:53through the last
43:54hundred metres.
43:55Check your clearance.
43:57Come on.
43:58To be delivered
43:59to the fox's property.
44:06Oh, it's pretty amazing,
44:09isn't it?
44:10Yeah.
44:12Yeah, this is Helen's house.
44:14The first one
44:15going on the back of the block.
44:19It's scary when you
44:20hoist it up,
44:21you only just miss,
44:22misses that pole
44:23over there,
44:24and
44:24too stressful for me,
44:26tell you what.
44:28When you look at those chains
44:29that are,
44:30you know,
44:30coming down from the hook
44:31to the spreader thing there,
44:33yeah,
44:34you just visualise them
44:36snapping.
44:40But I suppose
44:41if they've done it before,
44:42it must be all right.
44:42The modular home
44:51snapped together
44:52like enormous Lego bricks.
45:00And all of a sudden,
45:03Helen has a house.
45:05Next,
45:06it's time for Michael's
45:07modular house
45:07to be craned in.
45:08It's good, isn't it?
45:09Very nice.
45:12Helen,
45:21Michael,
45:22this is a
45:23very small
45:25token of appreciation.
45:28Thank you so much.
45:28That's all.
45:29Oh, you're lovely.
45:30Thank you so much.
45:32Michael,
45:33the largest investment
45:34that somebody would make
45:35is on a house.
45:37Buying a block of land
45:37and, you know,
45:38building,
45:39or creating a house.
45:40Yes, I do it every day.
45:42And you will see
45:43the clients overwhelmed.
45:45That's the pleasure
45:46that we as a company
45:47derive, okay?
45:49Helping clients
45:49to sort of make it faster
45:51and deliver it
45:52and, you know,
45:52put it together
45:53and get them
45:54into their domain
45:55as quick as possible.
45:59Fantastic.
46:00Yeah, beautiful, beautiful.
46:03Yay, look at that.
46:04And you're looking
46:05onto the trees.
46:07Hello, trees.
46:08Oh, now they're in place.
46:10The houses look amazing.
46:11They're offset
46:12just at the right angle.
46:14You know,
46:14we've got privacy
46:15between us.
46:17They just look amazing.
46:18They just look fantastic
46:19on the block
46:20and I can just see
46:21Caitlin being relaxed
46:22and not walking around boxes
46:24and, you know,
46:25her bedroom being set up
46:26the way she knows
46:27it to look like
46:28and finally making
46:29a life for ourselves
46:31and making it
46:32like a home.
46:38In Canberra,
46:39Mick's doing his best
46:40to help the Quachinis
46:41get into their house
46:42as soon as possible.
46:44What a great use
46:44of recycled concrete.
46:46Ah, beautiful.
46:51Including by lending a hand
46:52to the air conditioning
46:53installers.
46:54Oh, it's not even heavy.
47:00It's pretty lightweight.
47:01Nice and sleek,
47:02I call it.
47:03Sleek.
47:04My dear air conditioners
47:05are well known
47:06for being good value,
47:07energy efficient
47:08and easy to install.
47:10I always want to give it
47:11a clean at me
47:11and make sure
47:12it looks brand new.
47:14All right, I think we're done.
47:20Looking good.
47:20Now, I've been away
47:24from the farm
47:25for just over a week
47:26and I'm super excited
47:28to see the progress
47:29on site
47:29of our new home.
47:32Whoa.
47:33Are you sure
47:33it's big enough?
47:35Uh, wow.
47:37You guys have been busy.
47:39Well done, mate.
47:40Nice to see you.
47:41Well done.
47:42This looks enormous, guys.
47:44It's amazing, right?
47:45You can really see it now.
47:48This is kind of
47:48breakfast bar, kitchen.
47:49Laundry over there.
47:52Lounge room over there.
47:55Look at the sunken
47:56lounge room in there.
47:57Mate, I love it.
47:59How many square metres
48:00are we talking?
48:00The first pour is 640 square.
48:02Right.
48:03But that's not
48:04all interior, right?
48:07No, that's...
48:07Two thirds of that
48:08is interior,
48:09a third is outside.
48:10That's right.
48:10You've got your
48:11little meditation area there.
48:13The outside area, yeah.
48:14And the barbecue area.
48:15Yep.
48:16Mate, it's feeling
48:17really elevated, isn't it?
48:18And the pool
48:19finishes out beyond
48:20that yellow post.
48:23Really?
48:23Yeah.
48:24Mate, who designed this thing?
48:25Um, some galoot.
48:27Ha, ha, ha, ha.
48:29But listen,
48:30we've broken the back of this.
48:33Yeah, absolutely.
48:33Like, this is a good start.
48:35Absolutely.
48:35Yes, it's a good start.
48:40But the truth is,
48:41I'm miles behind
48:42the other families
48:43and I may not even
48:44get the house finished
48:45on time.
48:47Mick and the Cuchinis
48:47are already at lock-up
48:49and have started
48:50installing appliances.
48:53Rex has delivered
48:54and installed the Foxes
48:55to modular homes
48:56and they're actually
48:57about to move in.
48:58So when I put
48:59this project
49:00up against
49:02the other two,
49:03I'm nowhere.
49:07In three weeks,
49:08I'll have the federal
49:09housing minister
49:10looking at my house.
49:12And it better not be
49:13a patch of dirt.
49:15Next week
49:16on Future House,
49:17it's all hands on deck
49:19as I attempt
49:20the impossible.
49:21You guys are amazing.
49:22Ha, ha, ha.
49:23We reveal
49:24the finished three houses
49:26and we take the teams
49:29to Parliament House
49:30for the ultimate pitch.
49:32Would you come out
49:33and help us judge
49:34these homes?
49:35What a request.
49:36Absolutely, Jamie.
