Gilas men, women reach SEA Games basketball finals  Defending champ Gilas Pilipinas advanced to the 33rd Southeast Asian Games men's 5-on-5 basketball gold medal game after fending off Indonesia in the semifinal, 71-68, at the Nimbutr Stadium Thursday afternoon, December 18. Gilas held a 14-point, 70-56 lead but Indonesia fought back and got to within three but fell short of a potential game-tying trey as the Philippines hung on. Gilas women also reached the final after booting out Indonesia in their semifinal encounter, 66-55. 00:14We're happy with it.

00:16We get a chance to move on to the finals.

00:19Coach, um, second up, you got your defense going, uh, big lead, but

00:24that, like, last few minutes at the port, uh, gave, gave a lot of scare,

00:28gave a lot of people to stop scare.

00:30I, um, well, we got our defense going in the first half.

00:34Uh, towards the end of the first half.

00:36We started playing better defense.

00:38We started making some shots at the same time.

00:42We can't predict how to engage in real.

00:44We also give credit to the other team.

00:46We're playing an opponent, so they didn't give up.

00:48They kept fighting.

00:50We did make some upper-head moves down the stretch as far as our decision-making,

00:54but, hey, we have to be here.

00:56We're happy to win.

00:57We're happy to get to the finals.

00:59Coach, after all, what happened?

01:01Before going here, you're one win away from the goal.

01:03Yeah, it's been a long journey, especially for me.

01:07But, um, for the other guys, it's been a challenge every step of the way.

01:11And I'm sure not too many people gave up much of a chance today, probably,

01:15because of the way, um, they played in their last game against Vietnam.

01:20But, hey, we're here.

01:22We'll be back tomorrow to try to take the goal.

01:28We need to get it done or we don't get it done.

01:32Yeah, that's gonna be very similar to today.

01:34They're much bigger than us.

01:36They have a few guys that are 6'8", 6'9", so we're gonna have to be strong and strong.

01:42We try to paint similar to what we were the last three quarters of this game.

01:46I'm trying to just blend everybody together in such a short period of time.

01:49But we're here now, so there's no sense in talking about that.
