Alas men off to strong start in 3-set win vs Myanmar

The Alas Pilipinas men’s national volleyball team opens its 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign on a high note after winning via sweep over Myanmar, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21, at the Indoor Stadium Huamark, Sports Authority Thailand on Dec. 13, 2025. From its FIVB Volleyball World Championship debut, the Alas men carried all the lessons and displayed its caliber and escaped the Myanmar side on a highly contested straight-set win. The last time that the Philippines stepped into the podium was in 2019, where Bryan Bagunas led the team to a silver finish in Manila. The last gold of Team Philippines in the biennial multi-sport event was in 1993. Bagunas and Marck Espejo, along with young guns Leo Ordiales and libero Josh Ybañez, all work in rhythm to start their SEA Games campaign on the right footing.

00:00Now, we have to change something, especially in Black Point.
00:04We didn't serve good, we didn't defense.
00:07Some players, they are not in a very good condition yet.
00:11I hope that we will get them in condition for the next match.
00:15You were giving a few instructions during the timeout.
00:18I remember you were playing the catch-up game.
00:20What were you telling the men?
00:22Just that we have to defense more and the weight of the block
00:25and the timing of the block.
00:27There were too many block out to us.
00:31After we are, you know, we resolved a little.
00:35So it was enough to win this match.
00:39Next match, I don't know.
00:41Looking at it on, I don't know, with a positive perspective though,
00:46how much of a huge factor is it that they were able to quickly adjust
00:51and come out with a win?
00:53In the way that they adjust the match?
00:56How quickly they were able to adjust even though they weren't really performing as expected?
01:00We took till the last part of the first set to adjust, you know.
01:08Sally that was never playing with us, we did a good job.
01:12And after we put defense, that's it.
01:15But we did in the final of the first set what we normally do.
01:19For our defense and counter-attack shoot is very good.
01:23But today not.
01:24Coach, lastly, it's like the one side of the arena is full of Filipino fans.
01:30Just your reaction to that, having that kind of support.
01:33We feel that we play at all today.
01:36That's good. Thank you.
01:38Thank you for the supporter.
01:40Back again, because we have more important matches.
01:42Thank you so much, Coach.
01:43Thank you so much!
