00:00So today we are looking at high fire dangers across much of the west and southwest of the
00:07country and that includes much of those fire affected areas of Western Australia so no
00:12extreme fire dangers for that part of the country today however we're still looking at very dry
00:16conditions temperatures in the high 20s at least if not the low to mid 30s obviously further north
00:23further inland it gets hotter but the winds are still fresh at times and these dry fresh winds
00:28are likely to create very dangerous conditions even though the fire danger ratings are sitting
00:33at high today Miriam looking to the heat that's moving to the east of the country we'll go first
00:38to the fire danger we've got seven districts under extreme fire danger ratings in South
00:43Australia similar warnings for parts of Victoria as well that's exactly right temperatures are
00:49peaking across the southeastern states today in the mid to high 30s at least if not the low 40s
00:54and also very dry conditions in those parts driving those fire dangers high so extreme fire
00:59dangers are forecast for the York Peninsula Air Peninsula southeast of South Australia today
01:04as well as the Mount Lofty Ranges so very dangerous conditions and very hot conditions as well for
01:10Victoria we're seeing extreme fire dangers today for the Wimmera and of course total fire bans are in
01:15place for these areas so those dangerous conditions are pushing east with the hottest day today
01:20yeah what can you tell us more about that heat around the rest of the country
01:26yeah so we're seeing the heat pushing up the east coast as well we've got low to severe intensity
01:31heat waves starting to build across the southeast now we're going to see that gradually easing over
01:35the weekend for South Australia Victoria Tasmania temperatures start to calm down a little bit but
01:40for the east coast the heat really remains a focus for the weather the temperatures remain high and
01:45we see those severe intensity heat wave conditions continuing for much of eastern New South Wales
01:50pushing into southeast Queensland through the weekend and into early next week so unfortunately
01:55little relief there with those very hot conditions continuing even while the southeast can expect a
02:01little bit of relief over the weekend Miriam a lot of people want to know but what can you tell us
02:05about the Christmas forecast
02:09well look the Bureau's official Christmas forecast will come out this afternoon but taking a general look
02:15at conditions we're likely to see a high pressure system in the south what that means fairly cool
02:20settled weather is most likely at this point in time for Tasmania Victoria milder for Adelaide for
02:26South Australia and for Sydney it's looking wet sorry it's looking hot on the west coast and likely
02:33showers and storms continuing in the north so that's the brief but we'll give you all the details later
02:37today Miriam Bradbury at the Bureau of Meteorology thank you
