00:06and we have the latest details on the story.
00:08Plus, former President Barack Obama and Meghan Markle react to George Floyd's death
00:12and the racial tensions plaguing America.
00:18Hey guys, it's Ali for Hollywood Life, and we have some big updates as the three officers
00:23who stood by and watched Officer Derek Chauvin kill George Floyd have all been charged as well.
00:31Derek's charge was upgraded to second-degree murder, and he can face up to 40 years in prison.
00:37The other three officers are being charged with felonies, including aiding and abetting
00:41second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
00:45They too can face up to 40 years in prison.
00:48Floyd's brother reacted to the news and said that he believes the killing was purposeful,
00:52and he wants Derek to face the highest-degree murder charge, first-degree murder.
00:57Many do agree with Floyd's brother, but also argue that it is very hard to prove premeditated murder.
01:04And if they somehow fail to do so, they could risk Derek being acquitted in trial.
01:09If they go for second-degree murder, Derek's charges are more likely to stick.
01:13Switching gears a bit, President Barack Obama spoke about George Floyd's murder
01:17and the protests across America in an unprecedented live stream.
01:22He says what's happening right now is very reminiscent of the 1960s,
01:26but there is something very different.
01:28He says, quote,
01:29You look at these protesters, and that is far more representative across America,
01:34peacefully protesting.
01:35Who felt moved to do something because of the injustices they have seen?
01:39Speaking directly to the people, Obama said,
01:42I want you to know that you matter, your lives matter, your dreams matter.
01:46Meghan Markle also gave an emotional speech during a surprise commencement at her alma mater in L.A.
01:52She spoke about the racial tensions dividing America at the moment and George Floyd's death.
01:57She told the graduating class that she was nervous to speak on the topic,
02:00but then she realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.
02:05She said because George Floyd's life mattered,
02:07Breonna Taylor's life mattered,
02:09Philandro Castile's life mattered.
02:12Meghan later shared something a former teacher had told her,
02:15and that is to remember to put the needs of others above your fears.
02:19She also opened up about growing up in L.A. during the 1992 Rodney King riots.
02:24Referring to the racism people face today,
