James spoke to THR on the red carpet about wanting to meet Mahershala Ali, his successful past year and more.

00:00Is there anyone that you're really looking forward to seeing tonight or anyone you're really trying to see?

00:04Oh, everybody. I heard Kendrick Lamar was here. I'm like, I gotta find Kendrick.

00:09And is there anyone that you're rooting for, of course, outside of Beale Street?

00:13Definitely Regina King, but Mahershala Ali won an incredible, incredible job this year.

00:19I mean, in everything. I'm watching True Detective now. He's been really, really special,

00:24so I hope he gets to take it home tonight as well.

00:25And what about any of the performances? Are you looking forward to any of those in particular?

00:30Oh, yeah. Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga. Let's go. I'm going to be singing Shallow at the top of my lungs.

00:35From the audience, they'll be able to hear you.

00:37I might hop on stage. It all depends. We'll see.

00:40A little karaoke action. We'll see. We'll see.

00:43And you've had such a big year, not only with Beale Street, but with Homecoming.

00:46What has it been like this past year?

00:48Oh, man, it's been a dream. You know, I've literally been able to travel the world

00:52and to celebrate these projects, which I'm incredibly, incredibly proud of.

00:55And to see the way people are reacting to it and being so gracious about it,

01:00it's really something special.

01:01And this award season has been a long one, so I'm wondering,

01:04have you had a favorite moment from all of the screenings

01:07and all of the campaigning you have done?

01:09Oh, wow. That's a good one.

01:11Probably our trip to Paris.

01:13We took a trip to Paris a couple weeks ago to show the film to some people.

01:17And we just were received so, so well.

01:19So, I mean, every day is a new highlight.

01:21And maybe today will be my new favorite moment.

01:23And my final question for you,

01:24how are you planning to relax tomorrow after all this is over?

01:27Gee, I haven't even thought about tomorrow.

01:29I'm just thinking about getting in there.

01:30So, I'll deal with tomorrow tomorrow.

01:31Yeah.
