00:00:06at speeds nearing 200 miles per hour there is no room for error one mistake here you're going home
00:00:14for the last five years drivers have gone head-to-head racing for an individual championship
00:00:27Ryan Fireball Martin but this year we're doing something we've never done before we have eight
00:00:35teams led by eight captains this is no prep like you've never seen it before the racing is more
00:00:44intense everything that we're used to is no longer you got the money that's the most important part
00:00:51and winnings are bigger than ever game on baby oh that's you pots are bigger the cars are faster
00:00:57with nearly a million dollars on the line
00:01:00Virginia Motorsports Park how y'all doing today we're good yeah we're gonna have a driver's meeting
00:01:24starting off this wonderful day here at Virginia Motorsports Park today is our first 32 car
00:01:31invitational where racers can earn points for their team 10 points per round the further you go the more
00:01:37points you get we're the only team to have all five of us make it in and that's man that says something
00:01:45since there are 40 racers on teams and only 32 spots in the invitational that means not everyone's gonna
00:01:51get to compete obviously the more racers a team has in a better chance they have to pull ahead
00:01:56today invitational points yes $40,000 there is zero ducks in this deal like everybody's fast very
00:02:06everybody this field is insane 20 racers that won in our qualifier last week were guaranteed a spot
00:02:13this week then everyone else had to race for the final 12 spots and there were some surprises
00:02:19team captain Bodie was having car problems and couldn't even make it to his race and Jerry Bird the
00:02:27number one draft pick overall lost to Rich Bruder which means he is not racing in the invitational here
00:02:32in Virginia it's just depressing because I feel like you picked me first and I come letting y'all
00:02:38down because I ain't shining like I should well you got the new car you got the new car blues we all know
00:02:42how you run it's a good thing is that you guys never say quit that that's what it takes yeah we're not
00:02:46quitting like I said I've been since last week we've been just at it I mean I'm probably I'm gonna
00:02:50wear the car out the first two races but despite these surprises the final 32 car lineup is a strong
00:02:57one team captains Disco Dean Mike Murillo and Justin Swanstrom were all able to race their way in
00:03:04that means that all the team captains except Bodie will be racing tonight
00:03:21four out of five of us that are in yeah it's not too bad that's not bad that might be the second best
00:03:26yes of everybody yes I did not see anything on Finney how he did he had a bad injector box go bad
00:03:34one of the issues that we see with Birdman's car again it's nothing to do with Birdman as a driver
00:03:40it's all to do with his car and his car hasn't been doing good so I hate to bring this up he hasn't made
00:03:47the trip right can we put somebody in that has made the trip in his spot only reason I say that
00:03:53is because I just don't see any sign of improvement just yet I know it's coming but I'm just trying to
00:04:00look for out for our team right I just hate to roll in the first round with not making the trip at all
00:04:07I'd like to ask him and talk to him and get a point blank his feel for it
00:04:10this is the year that we're doing team championships so team captains get to choose
00:04:19who's going to be on their team and before each race we can make a trade or we can drop someone
00:04:23down and pick somebody up from the pool that's something I have to think about when it comes to
00:04:28Birdman hey what's up girls morning what are y'all doing Birdman got a win in the qualifier but
00:04:35the only reason he got a win is because his opponent broke and Birdman has to get out of
00:04:42it by the 60 foot and in testing he only made it 60 feet he didn't even make it 60 feet
00:04:53Birdman has issues there on the hit get out of it just past the 60 foot cone so it's my duty as a
00:05:00team captain to make a choice whether I should drop Birdman down pull somebody else up but
00:05:05I just don't know how Birdman's gonna take that where do you feel like you are right now as far
00:05:11as making the trip this first round not so what we wanted to do but wanted to talk to you first and
00:05:19and see how you felt about yours is possibly pull Dominator or if you are adamant that you guys think
00:05:26that you're okay and I'm 50 50 on we have t-minus less than 10 minutes to pull doc Dominator
00:05:33Dominator basically I don't know where I stand on I really don't I don't know that
00:05:40doctor Dominator could do anything for us but do whatever you want to do it's up to you you're the
00:05:46yeah I know but that's not how this works you know how that is yeah we won't we won't all talk
00:05:51about it yeah you're not going to stay in the pool if we do that I promise so what's the time length
00:05:57what are we looking at we bring somebody up for this race while we're here in Virginia you know
00:06:00what I mean yeah and next week it goes back to the same team we had yeah okay it sucks for me I don't
00:06:06like it anybody in this position wouldn't like it but you just gotta you just gotta swallow that pill
00:06:13and move on if that's what y'all think is best for the team then that's what needs to be done and I
00:06:18I would probably be saying the same thing from that end if you're okay with it I'm going to do
00:06:22Dominator I've struggled the past few years and with the car being hurt so what's your deal what's
00:06:28your thoughts on doc is he not no he's well he's he had the motor out he had the motor out yesterday
00:06:34oh he did yep at the end of the day they got to do what's right for the team
00:06:39what's up Dominator how you doing how you doing there man I'm good so how do you feel about how
00:06:47was your testing we made it 60 foot rattled the tires came back made a shock adjustment and went
00:06:52right down can you bump in is it going to bump in yes so Dominator wasn't at the draft but we know
00:06:58he's been out testing I know he's been struggling but I'm hoping and praying that he is the guy to
00:07:04replace Birdman for now we need you to come on our team and it may be only temporarily I get it
00:07:10okay I totally get it are you good with that absolutely okay yes sir all right yep get ready we
00:07:17all right so I do believe I have all of our racers here there's 32 of them racing for that
00:07:40invitational team championship for those that were here last night you saw the grade 8 you got
00:07:46to see Ryan Martin win that race last night $10,000 in his pocket oh yeah today a little different so
00:07:55all these drivers are on their respective teams and also we've had our first substitution of the season
00:08:03there is a reserve pool that you can pull drivers from and one team has elected to do that
00:08:09team Mike Murillo has pulled from the reserve pool they have sent Birdman down to the reserve pool and
00:08:20has brought up Dominator Dominator is now on team yeah Murillo picking up Dominator and it just blows my
00:08:31mind I just don't understand he wasn't even at the last race so for Murillo to not even come over and
00:08:36talk to me about it give me the opportunity huge kick in the so I'm gonna go on record and saying
00:08:42that if Murillo needs me later in the year my answer would be hell no so we're gonna move into the chip
00:08:51draw now all right there's some great match-ups heading into the first round of racing today and
00:09:00three sets of teammates drew each other Mike Murillo and Scott Taylor Ryan and Robin Roberts
00:09:06and Lizzie versus Chris Rankin from Kai's team they do have the option to trade chips to break those
00:09:12matches up but it's the first points race so there might be a different strategy all right my teams
00:09:17that drew each other can y'all step forward here please hey Kyle well you're first in line that's
00:09:24great so we have three teams that have drawn drawn their teammates uh for a race I would like for
00:09:31Scooter and Mike to swap with us if they would like to Scott and I drew each other first round so it's
00:09:39not an ideal situation you don't want to race your teammates however I always look at things from the
00:09:45big picture so any other way it's possibility that he could go out and I could go out neither one of us are
00:09:51accomplishing anything we're not getting any points from the team so the good thing about it is one of
00:09:57us is moving on and uh we start accruing some more of those team points that we need well but but Ryan
00:10:03you probably want to do something different don't you I mean I mean Ryan what do you want to do you
00:10:07know I was kind of thinking that since we were the first two to draw each other and you guys were the
00:10:12first two to actually draw out of the bucket you know we kind of figured that out first that we
00:10:16should swap they were at the end they really didn't count they were at the end so I thought maybe I
00:10:21mean you can't trust me your car's real fast but I'm just saying you're at the end but yeah yeah so if
00:10:26we could do that that's what I think we should do and I and I think Kai's just trying to run from
00:10:30me again but wow Kai Kai is that true uh maybe Mike I got to hear from you what do you think should
00:10:42happen here well with all that being said I last thing I'm going to do is try to help Kai so uh
00:10:47yeah we're going to stay okay so it sounds like the pairs are staying as they are nobody wants to
00:11:16swap except for Ryan and Robin the match-ups are set for the first round of our $40,000
00:11:23invitation racers will earn 10 points per round going all the way to the finals where the winner
00:11:29will earn 60 points that's a whole lot of points to accumulate throughout the season but these team
00:11:35captains want to start the season off right with the win get ahead we're here at Virginia
00:11:43Motorsports Park going to kick off the first round of our invitational event it's all about
00:11:49going rounds and earning points for your team you win you move on you lose you're out
00:11:53right first pair though we haven't made a hit with the rooster that's in it right now okay whatever
00:12:07y'all had in there against Chuck 55 was a nice pass so we're out here at Virginia Motorsports Park
00:12:12everybody knows it's my favorite track I won MPK the last two years in a row plan on making it a
00:12:17three-peat it's the first invitational race that we can actually start getting some points I drew Marty
00:12:22Robinson I don't really know a lot about him I just know he's got a nice hot rod he's got some
00:12:25really nice parts and I've seen him making good passes I hadn't had a chance to run beside him
00:12:29yet but here I am I drew first pair down the track and I'm gonna get to see firsthand how fast he really
00:12:35is so you were you were chasing that that Grimlin we have at the wiring did you find anything
00:12:40yep one of the wires actually kind of loose so that's probably why I was intermittently trying
00:12:44to ship and not ship so Marty Robinson drew last night's runner-up in the great eight Kai Kelly it's
00:12:51not a match-up you want first round in the invitation maybe turning the power down a little
00:12:55bit will help us get that shake out of there and we cannot not be chasing broken wires yeah have a
00:13:00better shot at it so we just come back from round one chip draw drew Kai Kelly ball people been chasing
00:13:05this Grimlin in the transmission that we found out last night the car didn't even ship out of
00:13:09first gear so luckily after chasing it for hours this morning we found the wiring issue wire came
00:13:14loose out of the computer got it all fixed the car shifting now so feel pretty good about this next
00:13:19run coming up with the invitational first round coming at you right now over the left lane that is
00:13:28gonna be Marty Robertson going up against Kai Kelly Kai Kelly in the right lane should be a good run for us
00:13:35nice job right down through there I didn't have a clue what we were up against so we just swung at it
00:14:04old car carried the tires probably about 500 feet the whole pass it was dead hooked up first pair
00:14:09down we got a hot rod ladies and gentlemen hell yeah the Buffalo nickel oh Buffalo nickel man those are
00:14:23awesome I ain't never seen no Buffalo nickel man just a good look let's get this first round out of our
00:14:28that's it let's go all the way that's the game plan let's go get it so I went up for first round chip
00:14:35draw you know me Callie Jim how are in it I think we all got good chip draws I'm second pair out going
00:14:41up against B-rad listen I know he's gonna be good on the tree and he's been going down the track so I
00:14:45think I got a good car I just need to go out and do my job and let's see if we can pull off this win
00:14:49um you know I got this new Buffalo nickel so let's see if we get some good luck rolling our way and see
00:14:53if we can take on some wins hey let's get partial shade come on thank you appreciate it it feels good
00:15:00to have all my team in having all five of your guys is gonna go a long ways into getting more points
00:15:06added to our pot and uh hopefully here we come championship I drew Justin Swansom what's crazy
00:15:17about this I haven't raced him for two years and I've done racing two times now the first event and
00:15:21this again in the second event thank you you too he got me last time but I was late in the tree but
00:15:27I know I'm there so we seem to not be late I think we might have
00:15:36Justin Swansom gonna get there first turns on the wind light nice job he'll move on to the next round
00:16:01that was a close drag race right there B-Rack right next to him
00:16:06glad to get that first one out of the way we're on to round two
00:16:14and you golden ready to go yeah first round I got Jim Howell in the last year the dude was fast
00:16:27and consistent plan is to just gain points all the time we can share data and we can help each other
00:16:34so we can win this championship my team has four of us going into the invitational we're guaranteed
00:16:40the 40 points for that that track is probably a greasy mess it's a little slippery
00:16:45daddy Dave has made some good headway here this year so uh we don't you know there's no ducks out
00:16:53here in this pond anymore everybody's a serious threat the goal is one round at a time we don't
00:16:58want to look ahead had a little little bit of a struggle bus here getting everybody you know set
00:17:03up the way we want them to but uh you know today I need myself and Callie and Justin to go rounds
00:17:09our biggest problem is what we don't do or what we miss Jim taking on daddy Dave that's a captain
00:17:16if you can get rid of him Dave's a threat so if we can get rid of him and go ahead and start getting
00:17:20some point

00:17:55first round ended drawing Chris Rankin of course a teammate like this don't change apparently
00:18:03last year I was drawing teammates left and right
00:18:06two of my team drew each other I only had four going into the invitational today and now two of us
00:18:14just drawn each other Brian and Robin also drew each other and he was wanting to swap but a team we
00:18:19decided that we would rather race each other so we could for sure have one person moving to the next
00:18:23round that'll give us more points it's all about the points we would have raced both of them and they'd
00:18:27have beat both of us we'd have had no points then they would have had 20. It's all about strategy
00:18:31here we're trying to get to that number one goal the team with the most points
00:18:44next pair we got Chris Rankin in the right lane going up against Lizzie Musick in that left lane
00:18:59and Lizzie Musick gets the win wow pop over there on the right side from Chris Rankin as soon as the light turned green I left and I saw him for a little bit
00:19:06then I didn't see him anymore apparently had problems again and my car made a nice clean pass got there first and got the win so
00:19:13I was happy with that we got data to work with we're moving on to the second round we're moving on up here we go
00:19:35So, I was happy with that. We got data to work with.

00:19:44This is a big race for Team Bodie here.
00:19:47Nate Saylor was Bodie's top pick in the draft,
00:19:50so he is counting on him to deliver a ton of round wins
00:19:54and a lot of points this season.
00:19:56All right, next pair coming at you right here are going to be Kyle Cannon
00:19:59over there in the right lane, going up against Nate Saylor in the left.
00:20:05This is the first for the points. This is my first race ever in the Invitational today.
00:20:10I'm pretty excited, pretty anxious. I know what the car can do.
00:20:14It's all going to be really dependent on me.
00:20:18Kyle had horrible luck in Ohio. He kicked some rods out of the motor.
00:20:22He got him a new motor. He earned his spot in the Invitational today.
00:20:26Kyle's got a lot of drive to him. He knows that this is an opportunity for him to
00:20:31step up and shine above everybody else. And that dedication and that determination
00:20:36is what's going to get him into the winner's circle and keep him on my team.
00:20:48And Kyle Cannon gets the win.
00:21:00Damn.
00:21:05Thank you guys. This is the trickiest round to go through. You know, the sun's blazing down the
00:21:15track, you know, first round. This is a very important round for our team. This is the first
00:21:19race here in Virginia that 40 grand's up for grabs, but also the team championship points. The more rounds
00:21:26we go, the more points we accumulate. We need to stay ahead and gain points to win this championship.
00:21:34All right. We got Manny Alvarez in the left lane going up against Rich Bruder in the right.
00:21:41Manny, he struggled a little bit. He had some suspension problems. He says he figured those out,
00:21:47so hopefully he's got a hot rod this weekend too. We've got fast cars in our crew and all we need them to
00:21:55do is make good, consistent passes, and we're going to be all right.
00:22:19And Rich Bruder's going to win that pedal fest there. Both cars
00:22:23have to pedal. I knew Rich has always been fast. Rich's car runs good. They've got a new screw blower
00:22:30combination that runs very well, and they're making moves and pivoting along the way. They
00:22:35changed some stuff yesterday in testing that helped the car, and every time I see that car gets faster.
00:22:40We get one lucky round, that's our lucky round, so yeah. Team Murder Nova came into the event with all
00:22:45five of his drivers in the first round. Now he's down to three after Manny's loss. Andy has drivers in
00:22:52each of the next two races, including Jeff Lutz, his number one pick, going up against Bobby Ducote.
00:22:57It sounds like Bobby's having some problems in his pit.
00:23:00He has one, but he needs a cam sensor.

00:23:15Um, had one of his guys over here. We had an issue with a sensor. It had a broke wire in it.
00:23:19So for now, I don't have the stuff with me to do the pen. I would just butt connect it.

00:23:29We want to win a team championship, and in order to do that, all of us have to be firing on all eight
00:23:33cylinders. So the whole team jumped in and got it done and fixed.
00:23:36Smack up there for round one, chip draw. And when they call number seven, I was ready. I
00:23:45didn't even, you know, I wasn't waiting. I just walked out there. And then there's a little short
00:23:48dude, Jeff Lutz, walked out, and I said . This dude's been racing before I was even thought of.
00:23:58My number one draft pick, Jeff Lutz. Hopefully, he's got a nice hot rod this weekend, and he can do
00:24:03what I picked him to do, you know, and that's go rounds. He's going to be a front runner anytime he
00:24:10races. That's what he does.
00:24:33All the bulbs come on. I let go of the button. I look over and I just kept seeing it. She just,
00:24:55you know, started creeping up. I'm in the car going, yeah, like, hell. Like, I was all excited.
00:25:01Like, going on a second round.
00:25:08Get them all in there, Bubba. Today is the first points race. It is absolutely crucial to go rounds
00:25:15here. Even though I made the grade eight last night, next week could be altogether different if we
00:25:19don't perform here today, and I could get passed up extremely easy. One more time. I am feeling
00:25:25confident in my car. We tend to be the slowest first round. You cannot do this here. You cannot
00:25:30make any mistakes against Chuck 55. He is very fast. We were in the same position last night. We have
00:25:35the same amount of points in the grade eights. You could argue and say that we're very evenly matched
00:25:39here, and I'm up for the challenge. All right, Daddy, let's go. We still, we're struggling a little
00:25:47bit on that short game. You know, from the hit to about 100 feet, we're struggling. Going into this
00:25:53round, I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit nervous. I feel like our cars are pretty closely matched, and
00:25:59Kayla's got two teammates that's running identical combinations, and her tuner that they share is
00:26:05going to have the data to know what the track will hold ahead of time. He can go back and make a few
00:26:10changes. So they're going to have a tuning advantage. I don't want to make any big changes,
00:26:16big swings on the converter pressure right now, because I don't want to be out in left field going
00:26:20up there first round. This is an important round, because if we lose this round, we could possibly be
00:26:24racing our way in. We don't want that. We don't want to take that chance. We're going to go out there and
00:26:29pull pass. All right.
00:26:35The next pair, that's going to be Chuck 55, going up against Kayla Martin.
00:26:49Kayla, she's doing amazing, and we're all standing on her shoulders. She won Ohio.
00:26:54She went to the final four last night in the grade eight. I mean, she's on point, and she's rocking it.
00:26:58So Chuck 55's car's rolling. He made it to the final four of the grade eight. You know,
00:27:07he's in the grade eight, first off. You know, that's amazing. And people are starting to realize
00:27:12why he was one of my top picks.
00:27:29All right, next pair, that's going to be Chuck 55, going up against Kayla Martin.
00:27:34Round one continues in this invitational with another big matchup. Chuck 55 from
00:27:40Team Murder Nova, going up against Kayla from Team Daddy Dave.
00:27:55All my guys are out. Out, everyone. You? Not me. I haven't won yet. Oh. I'm the last one left, though.
00:28:17So last night, we were able to pull off a grade eight wind. We had a transmission problem, pulling
00:28:26the car out to go take it up to staging lanes. The transmission's making some weird clicking noise
00:28:30that I've never even heard of. Somebody tell me what is going on. What does it do?
00:28:35It's clanging and banging. I think I've had every problem you could possibly have in a race car. I've
00:28:39never had this one. So what do we do, replace the whole training now? Yes, we're, we're, I'm pretty
00:28:43sure we're going to be staying up all night replacing everything. We went through and changed the
00:28:46transmission out, torqued all the rods. They were all good. And then Robin and I drew each other.
00:28:51Not even almost how I wanted that to go. It was worst possible case scenario. The one guy on my team
00:28:58that I for sure really, really, really don't want to draw, screwed that up.
00:29:04It's a worst case scenario. You absolutely couldn't have picked a worse case than for Ryan and I to draw
00:29:09each other. We think we're two of the fastest cars here. Now we got to challenge each other. Look,
00:29:14the only good thing about the two of us running each other is one of us goes forward. And the worst
00:29:18part of it, whoever doesn't win between the two of us, now the other one's going to have to race
00:29:23their way in in Minnesota. Again, worst case scenario. Yep. I just got to get one round,
00:29:29so I have to race my way in. I've never had to race my way in before ever.
00:29:32I don't want today to be the first day.
00:29:47And Robin Roberts will take the win there. Ryan Martin, looks like he shook the tires there early.
00:30:02Unable to recover. Robin Roberts will take the win and move on the next round.
00:30:09Green lock drops, but it'll take off. My car goes into instant tire shake, which I felt first round
00:30:16and testing before when I got here. And I just watched Robin drive off. Nothing I could do.
00:30:20Didn't matter how many times I could pedal it. He made a clean pass. He went A to B. Mine didn't go
00:30:25anywhere. Sucks we drew each other, but at least one of us is going on. Good job. Yeah, that's all good.
00:30:31Good job. Hey, good job. Thank you. Yep. How about a potential surprise of the year? Team captain and
00:30:37returning No Prep Kings champ, three-time champ, Ryan Martin is out in the first round. That means he'll
00:30:42be racing his way in next week. And guess what? That is the first time ever that he's had to do
00:30:47that. But coming up next is going to be a matchup between Team Bodie and Team Disco Dean. Both have
00:30:52already lost a driver in round one today.
00:30:59We actually probably made better passes and we probably went faster than we've ever went here.
00:31:04That's good. For sure.
00:31:05We should be right up there with them top dogs for sure. So here in Virginia, right now,
00:31:10feeling great. The car has never been faster. We're slowly creeping up on this deal and getting
00:31:16a handle on it with this new combination. It's just getting faster and faster and faster. And
00:31:20the more comfortable we get, the more dangerous we're going to be. So in the driver's meeting,
00:31:24we drew Larry Larson. Never ran that guy. But I'm telling you, when we line up today,
00:31:29he better have his together because last night we made two test passes, back-to-back personal bests.
00:31:34We were flying. So if our passes today goes anything like last night, we'll put him on the trailer early.
00:31:48Larry Larson drew Damon. He's been making a lot of great passes. He's making the transition from the
00:31:52street to No Prep Kings and he's shown a lot of promise. Not really too concerned about who I got.
00:32:01Biggest thing is we just got to get past first round so that we don't have to race our way in for next weekend.
00:32:09The first two rounds are going to be really important to get down the racetrack and after
00:32:12that, then it's going to be game on.
00:32:31Yes, J-Man! Two in there! Let's go! We need a down one! That's two in there, y'all. Two in, baby.

00:32:42I just heard that you drew Mike. Yeah.
00:32:45That , that sucks. Yeah.
00:32:48Well, you know, the only thing about it is we was going to swap and obviously we wouldn't do the
00:32:54game to where we call out our teammate or anything like that. But Mike's having some trouble and he
00:32:59said his car is making a funny noise. The new motor is? The new motor is. So he turns around and looks
00:33:03at me. He's like, I don't want to give it to anybody else. We drew each other. Let's just leave it the way it is.
00:33:07Scott and I drew each other first round. Prior to going up there, we started the new motor for the
00:33:18first time and it did not sound right. So that's in the back of my mind because I don't know what
00:33:23else we got going on. The oil pressure was low. We for sure don't want to hurt another motor. Once I
00:33:28came back, we got our oil pressure. We had to swap some parts off the old motor oil pump wise and put
00:33:34it in this motor. We sound good. We feel good. So I'm going to give it all I got with Scott.
