00:00The New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirming the gunman's allegiance
00:07to Islamic State, evidence found of flags in their cars for example.
00:12But we've been tracking the younger gunman, Navida Kram's connections to an Islamic State
00:21network dating back many years.
00:25We've revealed that ASIO conducted an investigation into his connections to members of an Islamic
00:33State terrorism cell back in 2019 when he was just 17, 18 years old.
00:39And our sources have also told us that he was associating in recent years with a radical
00:48Australian cleric, a very notorious preacher, Wissam Haddad, who's based in Sydney and who
00:55is a spiritual leader for the pro-Islamic State network in Australia.
01:02This is a man who's been on the counter-terrorism radar, on ASIO's radar for most of his adult
01:07life for about two decades.
01:10And he sits at the centre of a network of Australian terrorists and foreign jihadi leaders.
01:17He has spoken to us via a lawyer saying he vehemently denies any connection to or knowledge of these
01:24shootings in advance.
01:26But it adds to the picture of these gunman's associations.
01:30We know the younger gunman also was associating back in 2019 and onwards with members of an
01:40IS terrorist cell, including a young man, Isaac El Matari, who was convicted of planning terrorist
01:47attacks, also a convicted IS youth recruiter called Yusuf Uwainat.
01:51So really serious connections there.
01:54But in light of our revelations yesterday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave more details
02:00of this in ASIO investigation.
02:02He said it lasted about six months.
02:05And ASIO did not find evidence of any imminent attack plans, any threat, any terrorism offences,
02:13and deemed that both father and son were not radicalised, or rather that there wasn't clear
02:21evidence they had radicalised.
02:23Whether that assessment was actually correct will be the focus of questions in the coming
02:29weeks and months.
