00:30Hello and welcome to Kent Tonight, live on Kame TV.
00:34I'm Megan Shaw and here are your top stories on Monday the 15th of December.
00:39No to HMOs. Residents in a strewed road protest against shared properties.
00:45What will happen is the families will move out and it will destroy this road.
00:51Racing back to pole position, Kemi Badenok revs up the rhetoric on reform at Brands Hatch.
00:57And I think a lot of people who voted reform in Kent can see the mess that they're making at Kent County Council.
01:03And finally, you can't see me.
01:07The Countess Pro wrestlers react to the retirement of WWE legend John Cena.
01:16John's in it!
01:18First tonight, exasperated residents in strewed have taken to the streets to protest against Medway Council.
01:37People who live in Prospect Avenue want a ban on the building of a home that is house of multiple occupancy, also known as a HMO.
01:44It means lots of different households would live in the small property and residents say similar units have led to issues in the area such as excessive rubbish and lack of parking.
01:54Finn McDermid went to meet the residents.
01:57More than 70 residents living on this road in Strewed have objected to one house's conversion into a six-bedroom HMO or house of multiple occupancy.
02:06They sent a letter to Medway Council signed by 75 people living on or near Prospect Avenue and came out to show their disapproval.
02:15Now, this specific HMO does have a planning application which has already been approved.
02:19But the locals here on Prospect Avenue are hoping that they'll be able to get Medway to reverse their decision as they say it's just too much.
02:28If that's full and that one's full and that one's full and that one which I believe is five full, that's just a ridiculous amount.
02:36And then what will happen is the families will move out and it will destroy this road.
02:42It does not make sense. There's enough congestion already. If you look around you, there are cars everywhere.
02:48And I can tell you for a fact that even some people who've got cars are not here at the moment.
02:53If you come back home around night time, it's a nightmare to park.
02:57In the letter, the residents added that Prospect Avenue is a family-oriented community that contributes to the residential character of Strewed
03:04and that HMOs could destroy the balance.
03:06Well, she's going to be starting nursery in January, but on the way through, stuff like that, especially the way it is as well.
03:14Fair enough, it's around the corner, but it's just trying to find if we're going to leave in the morning,
03:19leave in enough time to, one, miss the traffic, two.
03:21Can't get further down the road because the space is already parked up because of the HMOs.
03:25Especially where we're taking her to her nursery, there is a few HMO houses there.
03:29How are we meant to safely park up and drop our kids off to the schools, to the nurseries?
03:36Now this week, Medway Council are going to be considering Article 4, which could mean that anyone who wants to convert a property into an HMO will need planning permission.
03:44Now this isn't a certainty, it's only going to be considered at this Council meeting, but what would the impact of it be?
03:50So this new directive, this Article 4 directive coming in here, is a legal planning tool that we're wanting to introduce for next week.
03:57And any HMOs where the Article 4 applies, in the seven wards where we're introducing it, means that they'll have to apply for planning permission in those wards for anything less than six people.
04:08Locals will hope they can reach an agreement with either the landowners or the Council, as they worry that more HMOs could hurt their street or their community.
04:15Finn McDermid for CAME TV in Strood.
04:18And Finn drives me now on the sofa to talk us through this. So Finn, tell us about the original letter.
04:26Yep, can do, Meg. I've got it right here. The original letter the residents of Prospect Avenue sent to Medway Council. This was back in October, near the end of October.
04:37They listed the key concerns for the HMO and how more HMOs, on top of the ones they already have on their street, could impact their local services.
04:43Now, it is worth mentioning this HMO did have a planning permission that was because of specific extensions to its building.
04:51But like I added in the story there, locals are worried about its impact on top of other HMOs in the area, such as parking and traffic congestion.
04:58They say that parking is already quite limited, which is further hurt by other nearby roads who park on theirs because of a lack of space.
05:04Noise, safety, antisocial behaviour. They say previous HMOs have contributed to an unsafe environment. More people means more noise.
05:13Waste management. They say it's quite a narrow road. So if waste continues to pile up, it'll become an obstruction.
05:19These are just some of the things they've listed. And I did reach out to Medway Council to provide a statement, but they weren't, unfortunately, able to get back to me in time.
05:26And Finn, we don't have much time, but quickly, can you just tell us why does just one HMO make such a difference here?
05:31Well, it's not just about the one HMO. The residents argue that it's multiple HMOs. As I was talking to them, they were pointing out in the street,
05:38well, this one has five people, this one has six people. And it was issues that they say it contributes as a whole.
05:43And there's specific wards that have been highlighted by Medway Council and the Stroud North and Frensby Ward is one of them.
05:49And these residents clearly are suggesting that this is a bigger issue that needs more attention.
05:54Thank you so much, Finn.
05:55A main route into Maidstone was closed for five hours early today after a lorry overturned on a roundabout.
06:04Police and highway officers rushed to the scene on the A229 Royal Engineers Road to recover the vehicle, which was fully on its side.
06:12Paramedics were called around 9.20 a.m. with the driver treated on the scene before being discharged.
06:17The surrounding area by the Running Horse roundabout and the Invicta Park roundabout both experienced delays with Kent Highways asking drivers to use alternative routes.
06:28The route was later reopened around 2 p.m.
06:31And a pensioner who died after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Maidstone has been named at an inquest.
06:3887-year-old George Wakeford had been on his mobility scooter on 21st November when he collided with a silver passet at the A229 Royal Engineers Roundabout near Maidstone Library.
06:51He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries the following day.
06:55Senior coroner Patricia Harding told the hearing that Mr Wakeford's cause of death was given as head, chest and pelvic injuries.
07:02The driver has been arrested and bailed pending further investigations.
07:07And a mess and ununified.
07:10That's how Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch labelled reforms management of Kent County Council in a rare visit to Kent.
07:18The opposition leader has been visiting Brands Hatch to announce plans to end the incoming bang on petrol cars if the Tories win the next election.
07:25It follows a set of bleak election results in May for her party which saw the incumbents nearly wiped out at County Hall.
07:33And local democracy reporter Olly Leder was there to hear the MPs full throttle proposals on the future of the car industry.
07:41The leader of the opposition swapping the front benches for Formula One here at Brands Hatch.
07:48Another effort to shift gears in public opinion in a county where the Conservatives are still far from poll position after losing dozens of Kent County Council seats.
08:03Does she now take responsibility for the party's poor electoral track record over the last year?
08:10I'm not here to say that Conservatives were perfect but actually we ran councils well.
08:15A lot of the savings that reform is talking about are savings that Conservatives found.
08:19So they're not even being honest about what it is that they're doing.
08:23What we want to see is people who are standing for council for public service not because they think it's a game.
08:29But reform have hit back saying they've been cleaning up the mess the party left for them at Kent County Council
08:36and are getting on with the job of improving services for residents.
08:42But Badenoch wasn't doing laps here just to spite reform.
08:46The Conservative leader was here to put the party into reverse gear when it comes to phasing out petrol and diesel vehicles.
08:56A policy first announced by her party and accelerated by Labour.
09:00It's not achievable. That's four years to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles.
09:06It doesn't make sense. Even the EU looks like it's going to drop this policy.
09:10Let's do what makes sense. That's why we are scrapping the ZEV mandate.
09:14A spokesperson for the Department for Transport says the government remained committed to phasing out all new non-zero emission car and van sales by 2035.
09:24That more drivers than ever are choosing electric.
09:29But those in the motoring industry here in Kent are sceptical.
09:33The government has a grip on the wheel when it comes to the sector.
09:38I regret to say that I don't think our current Labour government really understand the challenges to the motor industry
09:42that emanate from having the ban on petrol and diesel cars at 2030.
09:47Electric vehicles are fantastic.
09:49They're going to play a major role in the future of our country and Europe in terms of our journey towards net zero.
09:57It's going to take a lot longer.
09:58It's a long road back to power.
10:01But Kemi Badenoch will be hoping her motorist friendly policies might help her across the finish line,
10:09even when she's struggled to drive electoral success so far.
10:14Olly Leader in Brands Hatch.
10:15And Olly joins me in the studio now.
10:20So, Olly, what are the big takeaways for people in Kent here?
10:24Well, the big one is that if a Conservative government go into power,
10:27which is not guaranteed, given their position in the polls,
10:31that the party would end this mandate.
10:33At the moment, it was a Conservative idea originally
10:36to basically phase out petrol and diesel cars
10:39as the world lives in this kind of climate emergency, as it were.
10:45Labour has accelerated this process.
10:47They want these cars, no new diesel or petrol cars by 2030,
10:53no sales of them by 2035.
10:55Kemi was here saying she's going to scrap them
10:58at an iconic petrol head, iconic location in Kent, Brands Hatch.
11:05And that was the big takeaway that she wanted to get across.
11:07Though, obviously, people have an eye on KCC,
11:11which they obviously lost earlier this year.
11:13And we don't have much time left.
11:14But what was the reason for the lack of electoral success
11:17in Baden-Ock's view?
11:19Well, she says it was all to do with a poor election result
11:22the year before at the General, and this is what she said.
11:24Well, I said at the time that it was going to be a challenge.
11:28We had won many of those seats four years ago at a historic high.
11:32It's quite clear, especially after last year's historic defeat,
11:34that the Conservative Party is not doing as well.
11:37That is why I was elected, to make sure that people understand
11:40what it is the Conservatives stand for.
11:42And I think a lot of people who voted reform in Kent
11:46can see the mess that they're making at Kent Council.
11:48That's it for now, but here's a break.
11:51We'll catch you later.
11:52We'll see you later.
12:22We'll see you later.
12:52Bye.
12:53Bye.
13:22Bye.
13:52Bye.
14:22Bye.
14:23Bye.
14:52Welcome back to Kent Tonight.
14:53Now, communities in Kent have been reacting to the Bondi Beach shooting
15:06that's seen 15 people killed by extremists.
15:10Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram shot and killed visitors to the world-famous beach,
15:27who attended an event to mark the beginning of the Jewish celebration Hanukkah.
15:31Our reporter Naila Mohammed joins us now to tell us more about how Kent has been reacting.
15:37So, Naila, tell us about what happened yesterday at Bondi Beach.
15:41So, it was yesterday around 6.30 in the evening over in Australia
15:46where these two gunmen, father and son, Sajid and Naveed Akram,
15:50opened fire on a crowd in Bondi Beach.
15:53And they were using this kind of footbridge here as a vantage point
15:56and firing into a crowd that was here.
16:00And they were celebrating Hanukkah.
16:01And it was the first night of Hanukkah, which is a Jewish festival for celebration of light.
16:06And Bondi Beach is known for being quite safe, quite quiet.
16:11And, you know, it's a summer afternoon.
16:12Thousands of people tend to go to this type of beach.
16:14So, something like this is completely, completely unexpected.
16:17You had families, grandparents, kids.
16:19Everyone was there.
16:21No one was really spared.
16:2315 people got killed, including a 10-year-old little girl.
16:25This is one of the largest...
16:28Mass shootings are quite rare over in Australia.
16:30I mean, there hasn't been one since the late 90s
16:33after the Port Arthur Massaco saw 35 people killed.
16:37The father of the attackers has been shot and killed.
16:41The son hospitalised.
16:43And I'm sure people have seen this massive social media video going round as well
16:47of a passerby who was just out with coffee for a friend.
16:50He basically went over and disarmed one of the attackers
16:53and himself got injured and is currently hospitalised.
16:57And, obviously, this is a huge event.
16:58Headlines across the world have been kind of following the story as it comes out.
17:03And what has the reaction been about the attack?
17:06Well, as you can imagine, there's just been quite a lot of shock.
17:09A majority of people are absolutely heartbroken and baffled that this has come to this kind of level.
17:13I actually spoke to Phil Welbrook earlier today, and he used to be...
17:18He used to work here at KMTV, but he's currently working for Sky News over in Australia.
17:22And this is what he had to say.
17:23Everybody is affected and appalled by what happened yesterday, no matter what community or faith they are.
17:32And I think, you know, again, in times like this, sometimes it does take an atrocity to happen for people to really reflect
17:40and need to come together and almost have a reminder that there are people out there who want to create division and sow division.
17:48But, you know, as the Prime Minister here alluded to yesterday, it's more important than ever that everybody sticks together.
17:56But certainly the Jewish community in particular will definitely feel as though they have been subject to some almighty attacks.
18:05So, Nayla, tell us, what happens next?
18:10So, six firearms were found at the scene.
18:13Officials are still investigating whether or not these firearms belong to the father,
18:16because he did have a licence for six firearms.
18:19But since then, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, he has said that he's going to propose tougher gun laws
18:26at the next council meeting, the next cabinet meeting even.
18:30And Australia already has such strict gun laws because of the massacre I mentioned earlier in Port Arthur.
18:35So that's going to be kind of the next point going forward.
18:39The US Secretary of State has also spoken to the Australian Foreign Ministry about the attack, about kind of this rise in anti-Semitism, especially in Sydney.
18:50And a vigil was held earlier this evening in Australia.
18:53And thousands of people showed up to kind of pay their respects for the lives that had been lost.
18:58Thank you, Nayla.
18:59Screenwriter Nick Rayner has been arrested in connection with the death of his parents, Hollywood director Rob Rayner and his wife Michelle.
19:10The pair were found dead in their L.A. home on Sunday.
19:12Starting off as an actor before transitioning to filmmaking, Rayner's career span more than 50 years, with Kent being one of the filming locations in The Princess Bride, as our resident film expert Chris Deesey was telling us earlier.
19:27Thank you for joining us, Chris.
19:29So, unfortunately, we've had some sad news in Hollywood.
19:32Can you tell me a bit about that?
19:33Yeah, very sad news, the passing of Rob Rayner.
19:38Now, Rob Rayner is a filmmaker, even if you don't know the name, you'll certainly know the films that he's made.
19:44The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, Misery, and the perennial favourite, particularly this time of year, When Harry Met Sally.
19:52Really versatile filmmaker, really well liked, really well respected.
19:55All of his films were really very different from the previous one.
19:59But in the films that I just mentioned, we've got horror, we've got a courtroom thriller, we have fantasy, and we have one of the best romances written by Nora Ephron, directed by Rob Rayner, ever made.
20:10And that was also a choice that has come up many times on Kent Film Club.
20:13So, the news of the passing of Rob Rayner, really so devastating.
20:19And obviously, it's not for us to speculate on the circumstances, but I think this has taken the Hollywood and the worldwide community by real surprise today.
20:30Absolutely.
20:31And you mentioned there, his wide discography there, his filmography, apologies.
20:37Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it true that he did direct a film that was set in Kent?
20:43Yes, he did, The Princess Bride.
20:46So, this was 1987, and it was directed at Pennshurst Place.
20:50And it was a famous sword battle with Christopher Guest and Mandy Patinkin.
20:55So, that was filmed locally.
20:57That was 1987, huge cast, even Peter Fork, who played Columbo, was in that.
21:02And that often appears on many people's lists of favourite films ever.
21:06So, great that there's a Kent connection and something, obviously, that we're reflecting on today.
21:11Absolutely.
21:13And Chris, I have to know, do you yourself have a favourite Rob Rayner film?
21:18I do.
21:19I have to say, A Few Good Men.
21:22And this is, I mean, you couldn't have a better cast, an Aram Sorkin screenplay.
21:26And it was based on a stage play, and it's the famous showdown when the Colonel Nathan Jessup, played by Jack Nicholson, is put on the stand by a hotshot young lawyer, Tom Cruise.
21:40It has one of the best series of movie lines ever.
21:43You can't handle the truth, is one of them.
21:46And it's just one of those films where it has all the qualities, and this is Rob Rayner all over.
21:52You know, really good cast, but studio production, a throwback to a different age.
21:57His father actually was Carl Rayner, who collaborated a lot with Steve Martin in later years.
22:03He was in the Ocean's Eleven films.
22:04So, he comes from a dynasty of Hollywood and filmmaking talent.
22:10And a bit of tidbit news here.
22:14There's a famous scene, I won't go into the details, in When Harry Met Sally, set in a restaurant.
22:18And an older lady says, I'll have what she's having.
22:22That was actually played by Rob Rayner's mother.
22:27Chris, thank you so much for joining us.
22:31And now to sport.
22:33From Gillingham FC's tennis draw that saw local fans booing Kent's biggest side,
22:38to a local wheelchair tennis player making the change from go-karting,
22:43let's take a look at all the sporting news from across the county with Finn McDermid.
22:59Now for your sporting headlines.
23:01And to start us off, it was a solemn full-time whistle for the Gills
23:04after they were booed off at Priestfield for losing their 2-0 lead against Barrow.
23:08The home fixture marked a fifth consecutive draw for the club in which they started dominant.
23:13Goals coming from Aaron Rowe and an own goal from Barrow's Jack Earring
23:17before Josh Gordon supplied two in the second half to make it a 2-all draw.
23:20The Gills will head to Fleetwood Town at the weekend to see if they can snatch a long-awaited win.
23:26Captain Armani Little said they could have been three or four goals up.
23:29Well, let's hear what else Captain Armani Little had to say about it.
23:33I'm just going to go ahead and say I have to be the first American to have a Gillingham kid
23:42and go on a run in it. This is 100% legit.
23:45Apologies for that there. That was the wrong sop.
23:48But that is a teaser for what you can expect to see later on in Invicta and the show tonight.
23:53Now let's go on to rugby where it was another heartbreaker for local fans
23:56as the Tunbridge Juddians lost their National League One match against Bishop's Stockfort with the last kick of the game.
24:03The visitors put the Judds under some early pressure scoring in only 10 minutes
24:07but Henry Kirwan finished off a move to make it level.
24:10The Judds then pulled ahead Tom Kendrick slamming it home,
24:13a back and forth as the game continued for a 19-10 half-time lead.
24:17But in the last half, Tunbridge let the ball drop with the final scoreline 26-24 to Stockford.
24:23Next, a young wheelchair tennis player from Bindenden has put out his dream to reach the very top of his sport
24:29after making a transition from go-kart racing.
24:32Matt Knowson was born with a spinal cord injury that leaves him paralysed below the knee
24:37and he became one of the youngest people in Britain to get his race licence for go-karts.
24:41With surgery on his knee, it meant he couldn't press the brake pedal
24:45so it wasn't safe for him to continue and he chose wheelchair tennis as his new sport.
24:50He's just become the first player in history to win the Junior Singles, Men's Open Singles and Men's Open Doubles
24:56at the LTA National Wheelchair Tennis Championships all in the same year.
25:00When not competing internationally, he gives back to the sport by coaching a wheelchair tennis group
25:04at Horsemunden Tennis Club on Friday nights and mentors a young Kent player.
25:08Maidstone's teenage amateur boxer Keira Crittle has won the National Development Championships in her very first year of boxing.
25:17She's a member of Kent King's Amateur Boxing Club and won the competition with a second round stoppage in the under 52kg final.
25:24Despite being only 16, she's also won the Baron Box Cup in Devon with more successes being a big achievement for her and the club,
25:31who are in their first year as an official amateur club.
25:34Trainer Jessie Rossiter says at her level she's now the best under 52kg girl in the country,
25:39adding she's definitely a special talent and I think she's on course for good things.
25:43That's all from me and your sports news.
25:57Coming up after the break we will return to our top story.
26:01That locals in One Strood Street objecting to an approved planning application for the home of multiple occupation.
26:09That was Finn McDermid there, we'll revisit that one.
26:12Also coming up we have John Cena.
26:15We saw his last match and we are speaking to a Kent wrestling professional to speak more about that
26:22and to hear all about the last match and what it means for the Kent wrestling scene.
26:28But don't move a muscle, we have plenty more.
26:31Chloe Brewster's also going to be joining us live.
26:34We've got a lot coming up.
26:36We will see you soon after the break.
26:39Don't move a muscle.
26:42We'll see you soon.
27:12Bye guys.
27:15Bye.
27:16Bye.
27:18Bye.
27:20Go back.
27:21Bye.
27:22Bye.
27:23Bye.
27:24Bye.
27:27Bye.
27:28Bye.
27:29Uriah.
27:30Broilibmates
27:31Bye.
27:33Bye.
27:34Bye.
27:35Bye.
27:36Bye.
27:37Bye.
37:05Thanks.
37:06And we head down to the Cufflink Stadium in Ebbsfleet where we speak with those attending a charity
37:12fundraising event organised by Beams. Local businesses got together to network and raise
37:20money money money money money money money money money money money for this Beams of Joy event.
37:26So our reporter Louie Stevens went down to put the fun in fundraising. Here he is.
37:33I'm out of the cold and I'm here at Cufflink Stadium here in Ebbsfleet.
37:35Beams have very generously offered us a look at their networking event Beams of Joy.
37:40So Beams is amazing. They support children with disabilities locally, young adults as well
37:48and their families. So we provide services for children that meet a need for them but also give parents
37:55some respite as well. They won't turn anyone away. So we want to support children with any disability,
38:01any level of complexity, any family in need.
38:05Beams is a charity organisation based here in Kent which aims to provide long lasting comprehensive support
38:10to children with varying disabilities in areas such as Dartford, Gravesham and Sevenoaks.
38:15These pictures showcase events such as a messy dash that saw a thousand joggers take part in Dashford
38:20Central Park and a short break for children with disability service run by Beams deemed outstanding by Ofsted.
38:26The networking and charity done in these events can greatly help their growth as well as ensure that
38:32less fortunate children are more independent in the future.
38:35Overall, I started my world class as a volunteer and so I used to volunteer for this charity.
38:42I volunteer with them for over ten years and I go in their home two hours a week and support them.
38:48And so that family, that experience I have working with people in general, I accept people who they are
38:55and not just, oh you live in a nice house or whatever, I treat you differently. No I don't.
38:59I treat everyone the same and any way I can help and support I will do so.
39:04Being able to come to things like this not only ties them to the Beams community but it also gives them an opportunity to grow and to build their businesses, to make connections, make referrals and also give a little back.
39:21So listening out to what other people need in the community.
39:24So what Beams can do is highlight some of the areas where it is available where I can get extra support.
39:30To create an environment where there's more money available to support those children that need that help.
39:35But at any other point you can just go on our website and make a donation.
39:39If you run a small business you can connect with me, I'm Aisha and I can help you partner with Beams and make a difference in the long run as well.
39:49Now, a main route into Maidstone was closed for five hours earlier today after a lorry overturned on a roundabout.
39:59Police and highway officers rushed to the scene on the A229 Royal Engineers Road to recover the vehicle which was fully on its side.
40:10Paramedics were called around 9.20 in the morning with the driver treated on the scene before being discharged.
40:18The surrounding area by the Running Horse Roundabout and the Invicta Park Roundabout both experienced delays,
40:26with Kent Highways asking drivers to use alternative routes.
40:30The route was later reopened around 2pm.
40:34And a pensioner who died after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Maidstone has been named at an inquest.
40:4387-year-old George Wakeford had been on his mobility scooter on the 21st of November when he collided with a Silver Passat at the A229 Royal Engineers Roundabout near Maidstone Library.
40:58He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries the following day.
41:03Senior Coroner Patricia Harding told the hearing that Mr Wakeford's cause of death was given as head, chest and pelvic injuries.
41:12The driver has been arrested and bailed pending further investigations.
41:19And coming up we've got plenty more after the break.
41:22We will hear from Kent's wrestling community about the retirement of John Cena, widely considered the all-time best wrestler with the most titles to his name.
41:32We'll also hear from Corey Miller about the stories that matter to you, from train timetables to tractors covered in fairy lights to raise money for charity.
41:42And we'll be rejoined by Finn McDermott from Invicta Sport. All that and more after the break.
42:12We'll hear from you in the talk about the story of Chewman.

47:26memories 23 years in the ring I think in total incredible man you've got to say he's one of the
47:31greatest of all time absolutely and that was all the way in the states so back here in Kent a while
47:37away but clearly the impact has touched everyone around the world what might be on the cards for
47:41Kent Pro Wrestling in 2026 what isn't on the cards there's so much going on well thank you
47:47KMTV for letting us have your platform it's incredible to bring Kent Pro Wrestling filmed
47:53in Kent across all the county we've got some big title matches coming up tag championships
47:59it's a big division with lots of young aspiring wrestlers the UKPW championship I don't want to
48:06give too many spoilers but there's some big big movements happening Jack yeah so I think like
48:13we've branched out a lot over the years into more venues like the audiences get bigger the production
48:18values get better so you're definitely going to see that improvement both jump in the the stories
48:23that we're telling the quality of the wrestling but also the production the amount of people and
48:27just the general aura of course yeah and you mentioned kind of the the length of John Cena's
48:34career he's a big influence on or many wrestlers across different generations and age groups so
48:38have any of kind of the young people you work with really being touched and influenced by John Cena's
48:44career genuinely yes we've got lots of our wrestlers especially now who were introduced to wrestling much
48:51like Jack mentioned through John Cena is the was the face of wrestling if you're on top for 23 years
48:57I mean he has been a main event pretty much the headline of WrestleManias for so many years so our
49:03wrestlers aspire to be like him and actually a few of them recently had a fantastic experience being
49:09trained by John Cena John Cena loves to give back to the professional wrestling world so a few of our
49:14wrestlers had the experience of learning from the greatest of all time yeah I end up having a chat
49:20with a lot of the wrestlers that are similar kind of age to me and again they give the same story of
49:24John Cena is the reason why they got into it they're the reason why they're trying to pursue it as a full
49:28time career so you might end up seeing somebody the next John Cena just in Kent it can be great
49:34absolutely and Jack Alex that's been a pleasure thank you so much for joining us thank you very
49:40much thank you and earlier today I was joined by our production assistant Cory Miller who came on the
49:47show to talk about some of the stories over the weekend from to train from train timetables to
49:53tractors covered in fairy lights raising money for charity he covered all sorts he joined me earlier so
50:00Corey tell me about the first story that you've got for us today the first story is just around the
50:06the trains and the train timetables so we're getting them slightly updated and we're going to have a lot
50:13more regular trains so in fact there is going to be 29 more trains traveling between southeast and
50:20between London pancreas also what they're trying to do is they're trying to get more carriages that way
50:26in peak hour we're going to have more passengers get on and get off just making the commute a lot
50:31more easier and accessible really do you know when that might come into play we might be able to see
50:36these extra trains running actually they said they put it into place today so hopefully we'll be able
50:43to see that as soon as and get a result that's great news just in time for Christmas yeah and tell
50:49me about the second story that you've got for us today so the second story goes back to Gravesend so the
50:55town hall has been put up for auction in September and it has been bought out and the owners are
51:02planning to revamp it and turn it into a space for marriages for yoga just anywhere that the community
51:11can sort of get in and really use that space and utilize it definitely a win there for the community
51:18and you've got one last story there for us what is that one about and finally that is about the tractors
51:25in Folkestone so last year the local farmers wanted to give back to the community so what they've done
51:33is they decorated their tractors was various Christmas lights and they drove from two places and to raise
51:40awareness and to raise money for two charities that is the air ambulance and also touchstone and you can
51:48see some of these images here these from last year is that last year's parade yes so the one that's
51:54going this year is actually gonna happen on the 20th so that's still gonna be a little bit away so
51:59it's said to start at 4 30 p.m. and finish at roughly 7 p.m. and what I love about that is it's really
52:07sort of giving back to the people and it's really embracing that Christmas spirit because when they make
52:12their final stop in Folkestone they're gonna stop and the people are gonna allow to come on the tractors
52:17and talk to the farmers about what it's like to operate the farms and find out more about that
52:22absolutely that sounds like fun is that something you'd you'd attend I honestly I think I might you
52:29know sort of coming for somewhat of an Irish background I love farming I love the whole agricultural
52:34idea of it and I really want to try help out and get more in with that absolutely a no better place
52:40than Kent the Garden of England as well exactly no from what I know is they've already raised the one
52:481,500 starting fee for it and whereas last year they managed to have raised 4,700 for the charities
52:55which is great and whereas last year they had 50 tractors they've been luckily permitted 60 this year
53:01so even more of an idol brilliant and maybe as it as it carries on throughout the years it will just
53:07get bigger and bigger do you know do you know how long it's been going on for only just started
53:11last year so hopefully this can be like a real benchmark for the future to carry on absolutely
53:16definitely a good one to get in the festive spirit there thank you so much Cory thank you
53:21look lots of fun and before straight after Kent tonight we're into Invicta Sport presented by
53:30Finn McDermid but before then we're joined by the man himself to speak about the latest sports news
53:37happened over the past weekend so Finn tell me about the football at the weekend well it was definitely
53:45an interesting match across the board whichever one you went to whoever you support if you're a
53:49Gillingham fan utter heartbreak it was a 2-2 draw but you wouldn't have believed it at the half-time
53:55whistle the Jills were 2-0 up at home and Priestfield it can be a tough atmosphere to play out whether you're home or away and
54:03that was definitely proved this weekend because by the full-time whistle as I say it was 2-2 they managed to claw two goals back
54:09thanks to the Barrow player Josh Gordon and this marks the fifth consecutive draw for the Jills so fans really aren't too happy
54:17with this and they made their opinions very clear they began booing the players as they walked off the pitch
54:21according to some people who were at the game Ainsworth came over and tried to sort of appease the crowd and apologize
54:28but yeah definitely an interesting one if you're a Chatham Town fan you'll be particularly happy
54:33you've made it to the next round of the FA Trophy after beating Plymouth Parkway
54:37and also Ebbsfleet fans will also be quite pleased as well they've managed to beat the higher league
54:42opposition that they played against to like I say get into the next round of the FA Trophy so
54:45mostly good things there were a couple of losses here and there but like I say mostly good things
54:50for our Kent teams at the weekend lots of updates there I'm more of a rugby fan myself so any updates
54:57on the rugby over the weekend yes it was unfortunately a loss for the Tunbridge Juddians in the National League
55:03one they had a match against Bishop Stockford that went back and forth it was one of those very close
55:08matches but it ended up against Tunbridge 26 to 24 with Stockford taking the win really unfortunate
55:15especially as they managed to lead quite early the Judds scored in about 10 minutes
55:19so we'll be talking more about that on the show I know you said you're a rugby fan let's go back
55:23to football for a moment it's quite a football heavy episode we'll also be talking to an American
55:27TikToker his name is Eli Quivey and he's gone a bit famous around here in Medway because he's
55:34he's American if you're American you tend to support big Premier League teams but he made a video where he
55:39was wearing a Jills kit going out for a run saying I must be the only Jills fan in America he hails from
55:44San Antonio Texas and we'll be talking to him on the show so hopefully he's got some interesting
55:50stuff to say I'm very curious about how Americans tend to pick a English football team to support if
55:56you're born here in England it tends to be well you just pick a team you like or you might end up
56:01going with what your family like or just anywhere near where you live but it's a bit more murky a bit
56:06more subjective for our friends across the pond so we'll be talking to him getting the lowdown exactly
56:10what he wants out of Jillian because they've actually taken notice they commented on his post
56:15saying well this is brilliant you've certainly caught our attention so it'll be great to talk
56:19to him absolutely and we've got your sports show coming up we don't have much time but tell us
56:24what else can you give us a tease of what of what we've got to see at half past six sure thing
56:28we haven't got much time like you say but we do have time for some of our younger Kent athletes we've
56:34got a wheelchair tennis player who's actually just come from the go-karting scene so particularly
56:39interesting we're going to take a look at his journey through the hand a new boxing amateur champ
56:44from Maidstone thank you very much Finn you've been watching Kent tonight live on KMTV thank you
57:09thank you
57:22thank you
