00:21Hello and welcome to Kent tonight live on KMTV I'm Megan Shaw and here are your top
00:27stories on Monday the 29th of June serious assault six arrested in head
00:34corn at the scene of an ongoing investigation I'm here on location to
00:39give you all the details about what we know so far this is Manchesterism but
00:44what can Andy Burnham do for Kent we need a new determination to raise living
00:52standards of every single person in this land and home of Rallycross Lydon Hill
01:00honours its past with all cars returning to where the sport started I think it's
01:04so important to the community to the southeast motorsport community to have
01:08big events like this that people can attend
01:20but first our top story tonight six people have been arrested after a
01:25reported serious assault involving weapons in head corn police were called to
01:30Lennon Road yesterday evening with armed officers and paramedics sent to the scene
01:35three people were taken to hospital though their injuries are not believed to be
01:39life-threatening officers remain in the area as inquiries continue and our
01:44reporter Kristen Hawthorne was there at the scene earlier shortly after 7 30 p.m.
01:49last night on Sunday the 28th of June officers were called here to Lenham Road
01:54in head corn after reports of someone being injured and weapons being used
01:59patrols attended the scene along with armed officers and paramedics as residents in
02:04the area report hearing lots of sirens motorists last night approaching the
02:09area were turned away as three people were taken to hospital with injuries not
02:13thought to be life-threatening at this stage six people have been arrested in
02:17connection with the incident and remain in custody three men and three women and
02:22as you can see officers remain at the scene as those inquiries are ongoing I've
02:26been here at the scene for about an hour now and it does seem to really have
02:29quiet and dying but just those officers coming and going as those inquiries are
02:34ongoing and the people here left in the community are still being left with the
02:38shock of what happened here last night a taxi has rolled down a grass verge and
02:43hit a house in Canterbury causing plenty of damage as you can see here
02:49attempts were started to remove the car and they've now managed to get it out of
02:53the porch with fire crews in called to the incident and the cab driver is still
02:58there at the scene SGN are currently arranging for the gas supply to be
03:03isolated while the damaged porch will have to be demolished the owner of the
03:07property says she's had better days and that this wasn't what I was expecting on
03:12a Monday now the husband of the woman who died in a fatal crash has released a
03:19tribute as the man has now appeared in court charged with causing death by
03:23dangerous driving Sarka Nurdin died in a car collision near Dover in August 2023 a
03:31family described her as a fun person a very dedicated mom and very organized
03:35originally from the Charity Republic she was a former teacher using her
03:39professional teaching skills to homeschool their children Ben the father of the
03:44three children has expressed his mourning through recollections of memories like
03:48family and their travels across the country now police were called to the
03:55scene of a man who'd been seriously injured after a stabbing outside a pub in
04:00Maidstone the victim of this assault a man in his 30s was treated for injuries
04:05consistent with stab wounds and was taken to a London hospital where his
04:08condition is described as serious but stable a second man also got hurt in the
04:14altercation leading to a cut on his arm which was later treated at a local
04:18hospital can police have launched an investigation and are currently
04:22searching for three men in connection to the stabbing on June 28th now the
04:28potential new Prime Minister today announced a raft of policies he would
04:33introduced under some so-called Manchesterism including devolving power
04:38from Westminster by creating a number 10 at North or this might see it sound
04:42ideal for the MPs make a field constituents what could this mean for
04:46residents here in the county and how will he still ensure the needs of those
04:50are met here in the South East if he becomes PM well I got the story we need to
04:56change politics and we need to do it now
05:02good growth in every postcode was a takeaway line from Andy Burnham's first
05:08speech as a contender for number 10 but what did he promise should he
05:12become the Prime Minister and what can Manchesterism do for Kent Burnham
05:18explained this philosophy as inspired by his time as the mayor of Manchester
05:22prioritizing stable finances committing to infrastructure and public
05:26intervention when necessary devolution was a key message in his speech
05:31including plans to create a new number 10 in Manchester to move power away from
05:36Westminster Kent and Medway is set to undergo a huge overhaul of its local
05:42government within the next few years with devolution involving electing a mayor
05:46still not off the cards could this become a possibility under Burnham in the
05:52future the make field MP has also pledged to build the most council houses
05:58since the post-war period as well as bring down at welfare spending he pledged to
06:05reform business rates to help pubs and high streets and call for schools to move
06:09away from just focusing on getting people's feet first thing if the former
06:15Manchester mayor were to be Prime Minister would things be that different at his
06:20speech he pledged to stick with the theme of the current fiscal rules the
06:24previous leader Sakhir Starmer set so could he really rewire the state and most
06:31importantly not alienate Kent in his pursuit of the north for me the MP for
06:38Ashford I totally agree with that often we talk about London and Southeast but we
06:45know that my own experience like in Ashford we don't feel that growth what is
06:50in London in in Ashford so for example the classic example is like Ashford
06:56international train service we know that the Kent stations lost that train
07:00connectivity and every travel is from London so I am more optimistic listening
07:05to him today that he's talking about it's not just the central London need to grow
07:11we need that growth every part of the country every postcode and now let's take
07:15a look at the weather forecast for the coming days tonight we should have
07:25cloudiest skies in the west towards Dartford clearer skies in the east that's
07:29in Dover and Margate into tomorrow morning temperatures rising 18 is your high
07:35lows of 17 in Tunbridge Wells and rain throughout maybe a relief after all that
07:38heat but by the afternoon temperatures warming up again still
