00:00This is our Be Positive segment right around this time, and it is sponsored by Hatfield.
00:04Better care, better pork, better holidays, and perfect timing for this because they are the
00:09sponsor of our K-8, or as Kathy Romano was calling them, the cute division, right, of our Christmas
00:14Choir competition. Kathy is live right now in our performance studio. How's it going?
00:18Yeah, and I'm here with all of the kids from the Notre Dame DeLourdes School,
00:22and yeah, they're ready to go. We're going to talk to a couple of them before we get started,
00:27though. We have Cece, who is the class president and also an eighth grader. Good morning.
00:33Good morning.
00:34So can you tell me a little bit about the choir?
00:36So the choir is grades fifth to eighth. We meet every Wednesday and Thursday sometimes if we have
00:43like larger rehearsals or concerts that are coming up, and then it's like, it's at lunchtime,
00:48so we have to miss recess sometimes, but it's only like 30 minutes.
00:51And so how long did it take you to get this song ready to submit for the contest?
00:55Um, probably like two months, I had to say.
00:59Okay, and you're the class president. What do you have to do as class president?
01:03Um, mostly right now it's just getting events together and trying to figure out, there's a lot
01:09of Christmas holiday stuff coming up. Today we have a bake sale, so I'm missing a little bit of that,
01:14but I should be back to help with it.
01:15I think Cece could take over my job, Bobby.
01:18And she's so good.
01:20She's great.
01:20So there's three eighth graders in this group, and they are the three that have solos in the
01:26show, right?
01:27Yes.
01:27What's your name?
01:28Mikayla.
01:29And you have a solo in this song as well?
01:32Yes.
01:32How long have you been part of the choir?
01:34I have been a part of the choir since I was in sixth grade.
01:37Okay.
01:38All right.
01:38And what's your name?
01:40I'm Natalie.
01:41Natalie.
01:42How long have you been part of the choir?
01:43Since I was in fifth grade.
01:45Okay.
01:45So a lot of them here for years with you.
01:48And we have the choir director, Angela Wartner.
01:51Good morning.
01:52Good morning.
01:53So are you so proud of them?
01:56I wrote this last night.
01:57Proud is an understatement.
01:59They were so well behaved, poised.
02:02They sang beautifully last night.
02:04And every time we do this, we had to have a little bit of like a word to make sure we
02:08would lock in.
02:09So if I say snowflake, they know it's like, we're ready.
02:13Well, hold on.
02:14I heard you say, get your hanger.
02:17What does that mean?
02:19Okay.
02:19Well, when we sing, we want to be upright and we want to be lifted so that we can breathe
02:23well.
02:24And we don't want to be like slouchy middle schoolers.
02:26So I tell them to put their hanger in their shirt so they stay upright.
02:31But yes, all kinds of things you need.
02:34All kinds of key words in here.
02:36I heard her say hanger.
02:37I was like, I need to ask what that means.
02:40And your principal's here with you too.
02:41Mrs. Pileggi.
02:42She is the principal of the school.
02:44The school is K through eight.
02:46K through eight.
02:47And we also have pre-K.
02:48Pre-K three and pre-K four.
02:50And then K through eight.
02:51Yep.
02:51Okay.
02:51So you have the three eighth graders here.
02:53Are they, they're moving on from the school?
02:55Where do they go for ninth grade?
02:57There's various places.
02:58A lot of them will go to O'Hara.
03:00Um, some will transfer to some of the nearby public schools.
03:04Carol, Archbishop Carol, um, Prendy, Bonner Prendy, all different places.
03:08Okay.
03:09So they choose where to go.
03:10All right.
03:10Well, they are the winners of our K through eight division here on B101, the Christmas
03:14choir competition, which was sponsored by Hatfield.
03:17And they're going to sing the song that was in the competition, which is like it's Christmas.
03:22So I think we're ready to go.
03:23Sounds good.
03:24Sounds great.
