00:00
This is a little difficult for me to say, and I literally did write some of this down.
00:04
This is with very mixed emotions that I want to tell you guys that I am retiring from radio.
00:12
Now, Bill and Laura already know this, so I'm not surprising them here.
00:16
Not a shock to us today.
00:18
Yeah. So after 32 years of working in radio, which has been the best career that I ever
00:24
could have had, exactly half of it, 16 years, has been right here on B101.
00:31
And this has been the most joyous time of my life.
00:35
I mean, my marriage, my kids, and then my job here on the B.
00:39
And you know the saying, I'm sorry.
00:42
It's okay.
00:43
It's okay.
00:44
This is a big deal.
00:45
I know.
00:45
Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life, right?
00:49
What I've loved is all of you.
00:51
I love you, Bill and Laura.
00:53
I love you as well.
00:55
And I love each and every one of you listeners.
00:57
So for a lot of us, I mean, we have spent our mornings together here for the last 14 years.
01:04
I did middays on B101 for my first two years, and then I switched over to the morning show,
01:09
and that is when we really got to know each other.
01:12
So, you know, all of us, we have shared lots of personal stories,
01:17
pieces of our lives with each other over the years.
01:19
But mostly, we've laughed together.
01:22
Every morning.
01:23
Right?
01:23
Every single morning.
01:25
That has been the highlight for me, spending 14 years just laughing and having fun and
01:32
being happy, right?
01:33
Every weekday morning with each of you.
01:38
So, God, my mouth is dry.
01:39
It's okay.
01:39
I know I'm smacking.
01:40
It's okay.
01:42
I should have my water.
01:43
Starting your day off on the right foot, like, you know, starting it off in a good mood
01:47
has been our goal as a team here on The B every morning.
01:51
But I really do feel like it's been both ways, because you guys, you put us, you put
01:56
me, I can speak for you guys, I know I can, in a good mood as well, because you guys are
02:03
the best.
02:04
You've been the reason that I've been getting up in the middle of the night, right?
02:07
For so many years.
02:09
I mean, you have made my mornings worthwhile, and I can't thank you enough for that.
02:16
So, I mean, you know when it's time, right?
02:19
You know when it's time to step away, and that's what I'm doing.
02:22
This is my decision.
02:23
I just want you guys to know that my bosses at The B, they've been amazing, and they've
02:28
been nothing but supportive.
02:30
This is all me, just because it is time.
02:33
So, I'm calling it career retirement, all right?
02:38
I'm looking forward to some time off, more time with the family, that kind of thing.
02:43
And then whatever the next chapter is going to be, I don't know what that is yet, but
02:48
I have a few ideas.
02:49
I do, I do.
02:50
I've talked to these two about it.
02:52
I have some things that I would like to pursue.
02:56
So, in this case, change is good.
02:59
I could say so many.
03:00
I can go on for hours.
03:01
I could write a book about you and I.
03:03
Oh, well, we should, actually.
03:05
That might be one of my ideas.
03:06
And Jen, you've heard every story from me, because we carpool together, I know.
03:10
But I will tell you one story that sticks out, okay?
03:13
I'll try to hold it together.
03:15
I've been with This Morning Show in so many different versions of This Morning Show since
03:20
2004.
03:22
Friends was still on.
03:23
Think about that.
03:24
That's a long time, Billy.
03:26
You and I started in 2014 doing this together.
03:28
Now, I had three shots of being the co-host, three shots at it, at the job, all right?
03:33
First two failed.
03:35
Third time was with you.
03:36
Yeah.
03:37
Coworkers said to me a year after, well, I guess the third time was the charm.
03:42
I said, no, the charm was Jen Ryan.
03:44
That was the charm.
03:46
I can't do this without you.
03:47
I can't imagine doing it without you.
03:50
You're my best friend here, my work wife.
03:53
We've been through pandemics together, snowstorms together.
03:56
Countless.
03:57
Sleepless nights.
04:00
Lots of whining.
04:01
Lots of whining and crying, and I think this is justified.
04:03
Oh, my God.
04:05
Thank you, Bill.
04:05
That was really nice to say.
04:07
Doing this show, my heart is full with you.
04:09
That's all I have to say.
04:10
Well, I do want to say that, listen, Bill and Laura are still here.
04:14
So you guys, you're still in good hands.
04:17
This is my last week.
04:18
So, oh, my God.
04:20
Yeah, it's emotional.
04:22
My last take will be a week from today on Monday, the 31st.
04:26
Yeah.
04:28
I mean, I can't follow Billy.
04:30
That was so sweet.
04:31
And obviously, I just want to thank you for everything that you've done for this morning
04:36
show and for B101.
04:38
I have worked with a lot of morning shows.
04:40
And you guys, I mean, not to throw shade on anyone else.
04:44
They've been wonderful.
04:44
But you are fantastic to work with.
04:49
We were instant friends.
04:50
You were extremely welcoming.
04:52
And it's because you're both so down to earth.
04:55
Yes.
04:56
And we've had so much fun.
04:58
I mean, honestly, we spend so much time together.
05:02
Jen, I think you know more about my life than some of my closest family and friends.
05:07
That's what happens when you do radio together.
05:09
And I'm just going to miss you so much.
05:12
You've set such a great example for everyone here in radio.
05:16
I mean, I look up to you.
05:18
I feel like I've learned so much from you.
05:20
I'm glad.
05:21
Thank you, Laura.
05:22
I just appreciate everything.
05:23
I appreciate you.
05:24
And I appreciate everything that you have done for this morning show.
05:27
And again, you guys, like, you know, Philly sports fans are the greatest fans in the world.
05:34
And I truly feel like Philadelphia radio listeners are the greatest.
05:38
Oh, absolutely.
05:40
So we have a lot of memories, right, that we are going to take with us,
05:44
that I'm going to take with me to my next chapter.
05:47
And I will take them with me for the rest of my life.
05:50
Honestly, we have too many to count.
05:52
And we've got some shows to do.
05:53
Oh, my God.
05:55
I do want to say I want this last week to be fun.
05:58
I really do.
05:59
I do not want this to be sad.
06:01
Change is good.
06:02
Life happens.
06:04
Change happens.
06:04
And let's let's have a great last week together.
06:07
Let's have fun.
06:08
And thank you guys for listening.
06:10
We love you, Jen.
06:11
I love you guys, too.
