00:002025 is officially over for the Kansas City Chiefs. All you have to do is turn the lights
00:05out on Arrowhead Stadium at the end of the season, which will be in late December, early
00:09January. Yesterday coming into the game, the Kansas City Chiefs were a favorite in this
00:13game and also were a pretty sharp side. The public climbing onto the Chargers saying,
00:17ah, Kansas City, not the same team, give them points and wait to see how this game played
00:21out. Kansas City had a lead 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. And as I said to start
00:24the show, Patrick Mahomes did have a 12-yard touchdown run. So you know what? Play good
00:29defense, live the flight another day, see what happens. This game was back and forth
00:33the entire way. But did you know, Joe, Kansas City didn't score a single point in the second
00:37half. Kansas City had a chance to drive down the field late in the fourth quarter to either
00:42tie or take the lead and devastation happened. Patrick Mahomes rolled out of the pocket, that
00:47knee caught in the grass, sort of splintered it looks like where it has one of those like
00:52over like corrections of your knee. You knew it was bad right away, stayed on the turf.
00:57Turns out, a torn ACL for Patrick Mahomes in December. Chiefs out of the playoffs. A team,
01:04Joe, usually makes the Super Bowl, definitely makes the AFC Championship game, and usually
01:08holds the number one overall seed. None of that is the case. They're missing the playoffs
01:12altogether. That's incredible.
01:14Yeah, it's, and we have to remember too here, and it's unfortunate that this, you know, this
01:22had to take place with Mahomes here, because who knows how long it's going to run into next
01:28season as well. But, you know, the Chiefs have not been bad since he got there. You know,
01:35since him and Andy Reid have gotten there. I mean, there's only so, at some point, this was
01:39going to go the other way. Now, listen, it happened with Brady in New England, right? It's happening
01:44with Mahomes. There's only so much Andy Reid can do, right? I mean, the offensive line is
01:50not good. They can't run the ball. They don't have a true number one wide receiver. 36-year-old
01:55Travis, like, nothing was going well this season, and this just puts an exclamation point on what
02:02was inevitably going to happen, Donnie. As much as we like to think it's never gonna, it's never
02:07gonna come down. It was going to happen. It's just unfortunate that Mahomes had to get hurt
02:13during what was, you know, maybe the first time in a long time that we're not going to be talking
02:18about the Chiefs come this postseason. And by the way, credit the Chargers to get another one-score
02:22game that they won. They got picked up their 10th win of the season in freezing cold conditions for a
02:27dome team with a quarterback, yeah, still playing with a broken hand. 29 carries for 94 yards on the
02:32ground, led by Omari and Hampton, 15 carries for 61 yards. Keep in mind, he came back last week.
02:37That was the guy that was supposed to be that lead back all season long. Maybe some fresh legs
02:40heading into the playoffs, but they didn't have to do much because you're right, Joe.
02:44Kansas City is a shell of its former self. When we go back to the Tyreek Hill days, it was four plays,
02:4968 yards, and a touchdown before your head could spin. Oh, you have the Chiefs down two touchdowns.
02:54Within five minutes, they actually have the lead back. We've seen that in playoff games against
02:58light competition. But when you look at the Chiefs' offense as it goes, you just can't survive in the NFL.
03:03I don't care who your quarterback is, wide receivers, or running backs. If four to five
03:07starters are down on the offensive line at any given time, which you saw again yesterday,
03:12coming with three guys down, immediately another guy gets hurt on the offensive line.
03:16You just can't sustain that, and they couldn't do it yesterday. Mahomes, 16 of 28, 189, no touchdown
03:21passes. The previous week, Joe, what was it? Three interceptions and no touchdown passes. You can't
03:26survive without a good offensive line. I don't care how good your quarterback is or your head
03:30coaches here. Shout out Travis Kelsey. Seven catches for 70 yards. Tried to do his best,
03:35but they had nothing going on offense because they couldn't block, Joe.
03:39Oh, well, no running game, and that's the problem. You think they would have learned their lesson
03:43after that loss a year ago, but instead, Donnie, they kind of doubled down on the passing game
03:48instead of trying to fix the issues with the running game. You need a running game in the NFL,
03:53guys, any which way you cut it, and you can only mask those deficiencies only so long.
04:00And now you got your franchise quarterback out, not only the rest of this year, who knows how
04:05into last year. It's a good offensive line when healthy, Donnie, and they'll be good next year,
04:12but they've got a lot of decisions they got to make. They got to get a real running game back
04:18in play, no matter who the quarterback is next year.
