Australian authorities have launched a probe into whether the Bondi Beach attackers, who killed 16 people, had links to Iran-backed proxies. Australian and Israeli intelligence are assessing if the father-son shooters acted alone or were part of a foreign-backed network. Israeli officials say Iran is the leading suspect, with Hezbollah, Hamas and Lashkar-e-Taiba also being examined.

00:00Australia is reeling as investigators uncover
00:28a chilling new lead in the Bondi Beach terror attack.
00:32A day after 16 lives were lost, authorities confirmed that an ISIS flag was found inside
00:39a vehicle linked to the suspects.
00:42The discovery has triggered an urgent counter-terrorism probe into whether the father-son attackers
00:49had ties or aspirations to the Islamic State.
00:54Police now say the gunmen behind the massacre were a father and son, 50-year-old Sajid Akram
01:00and 24-year-old Naveed Akram.
01:03The father died at the scene, Naveed remains in critical condition.
01:09Authorities initially treated the shooting as an anti-Semitic attack on a Hanukkah festival,
01:15but today's ISIS-related discovery has expanded the scope dramatically.
01:21Forty people remain hospitalized, including two police officers.
01:25Victims ranged from a 10-year-old child to an 87-year-old elder.
01:31Around 1,000 people were celebrating Hanukkah in a small park off Bondi Beach when the gunmen
01:38opened fire, sending families scrambling across sand, streets and storefronts in sheer terror.
01:46Prime Minister Antony Albanese visited this scene, calling the massacre an act of pure evil
01:52and an act of anti-Semitism.
01:54What we saw yesterday was an act of pure evil, an act of anti-Semitism, an act of terrorism
02:02on our shores in an iconic Australian location, Bondi Beach, that is associated with joy, associated
02:10with families, gathering, associated with celebrations and it is forever tarnished by what has occurred
02:20last evening.
02:22This was an attack deliberately targeted at the Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah,
02:29which of course should be a joyous celebration and the Jewish community are hurting today.
02:36He promised the Jewish community full protection and declared that Australia would eradicate
02:42anti-Semitism together.
02:45International leaders, including Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron, have expressed solidarity.
02:52The attack arrives amid a troubling rise in anti-Semitic incidents across Australia since
02:58the Gaza war began in 2023.
03:02Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously warned Albanese that Australia's stance on Palestinian
03:10statehood could escalate threats.
03:13And months earlier, Canberra expelled Iran's ambassador, accusing Tehran of directing anti-Semitic
03:20attacks on Australian soil.
03:23The ISIS flag discovery has become the centrepiece of the investigation.
03:29Authorities stress that the presence of the flag does not yet confirm operational links, but
03:34it raises urgent questions about radicalisation, influence and intent.
03:41Was the attack driven by anti-Semitism alone or were the Akram attackers inspired or even guided
03:48by extremist ideology, as investigators search digital devices, trace communication channels
03:55and interview relatives, Australia stands at a crossroads.
