00:00do you know it reminds me of putting on my makeup in the morning I don't mind
00:11getting stuck into anything I never expected plastering to be quite as
00:18tricky as it was can I go in I love it I want to swap bedrooms with her for like a house
00:32renovation requires a lot of wine there have been a few delays with tiling this floor
00:37it's easy to take family for granted when I see my family now and see my sister Kate I
00:45think you really take value in it I tell you there is never a dull moment here
00:58basically I'm a professional now I've got the hang of it I've just made a big hole
01:03I'm all packed oh you're done I'm going good luck financially I think I have to go
01:12back to work and my work involved me being away a lot I can handle it you can take
01:18you'll have to handle it my brother Andrew my baby brother coming over I've got one one zero zero
01:28it's one zero one zero none of the measurements seem to be right I've just got myself in a bit of tears
01:35with it slightly just losing control of all the different threads that have different things
01:43that are going on we go oh they good Jasmine and John are now five months into their renovation and
01:59and the good news is that after John's serious health scares he's now well on the mend
02:04in the words of Elton John I'm still standing
02:09Jasmine's mum Vasula is staying to help out around the house leaving Jasmine and John more time to focus
02:17on the build my mum is visiting again and she bought the flights months and months and months ago because
02:27she found them so cheap and she said I'll just book them and come out and visit you for a nice holiday
02:33because last time she came out it was to come and save the day when John broke his leg so it means that
02:40you know she's been helping again with everything one of our concerns when we moved away was that we
02:46would miss and not see quite a lot of family but actually I think it's the opposite I think you end
02:52up with a sort of gradual stream of people booking in weeks throughout the year and you actually get to
02:58spend I think more valuable time once you come on board and people come and visit
03:03so John and Albie just went out and they came back with this so in the basement we want to make it
03:15like really fun retro entertaining space and John was just browsing online and happened to come across
03:24some really retro arcade games and so he went to have a look with Albie and they came back
03:33with one of them what the heck what do you think joy yeah I think it'll be really good fun
03:49there are some really funky old games in there that I like um I don't know it's definitely one that
03:56the kids and their friends are going to have a lot of fun on probably me and John as well I mean
04:02now we've got this in the kitchen it's quite fun actually it's going to go in the basement
04:09eventually it was left in the kitchen because at the moment it can't go down in the basement
04:14because there's so much work going on down there so it does look a bit strange to have it there in
04:20the kitchen but let's just be honest life is all a bit strange at the moment so an arcade machine in
04:30the kitchen anything goes down in the basement decisions need to be made on where and how to
04:38watch films the basement was sort of formed around our desire to have like a cinema room but rather than
04:47just project onto a sort of blank or white wall there's a bit of a trend for media walls so we thought
04:55we'd have one too it's kind of coming together I mean it is essentially a lot of plasterboard built
05:01into a shape that you want it to be media wall what even is that I don't know what media wall is or what
05:08it means this is John's thing so there's these little alcoves which will have little frames or photos in
05:15or little memorabilia and then there's the kind of the recess in the wall where the tv will go
05:24I have no idea what it means it's just the telly right
05:30time for all the family to step away from the build as there's an invite to a fiesta hosted by their
05:42original builder and still very good friend Carlos
05:45we're at a party at Carlos's house and it was his daughter's first holy communion today so he invited
05:59us over we're having a great time aren't we we went to Carlos's little daughter's first holy communion
06:07I've never been to one before and so we went to the church beforehand and then we went to the party up
06:16at their house afterwards and we had just the best time my mom came with us as well John was dancing
06:25around on his broken leg it really meant a lot to me that they invited us it's the next morning a while
06:40the work continues in the basement to hit their summer deadline Dominic needs to start on the outside too
06:45we're at the point of the build where we have to have things simultaneously happening at the same
06:54time we can't wait for the basement to be finished before we start digging up the garden so we are now
07:00at the point where things have to happen concurrently they are currently digging up the garden and where we're
07:11going to put a patio but we haven't even decided what kind of material we're going to make the
07:17patio out of yet when the digger started going to work it was very satisfying although I hadn't quite
07:25anticipated how much of the garden was going to be destroyed by the digger there seems to be lots of
07:36activity going on today I'm not quite sure what's going on to be honest I feel like the whole thing
07:44has just run away I don't know what's going on I'm overwhelmed if I'm honest even with Jasmine's mum
07:55for Sula on damage control one of the lemon trees gets a knock but with some space now cleared it's time
08:03to make a plan I'm struggling at the minute just visualizing it and feeling like oh the garden all
08:10the garden's gone but then I guess it makes it more usable we've got we have a patio out here get
08:17the whole family out here us yeah you're gonna need an area to sit I wasn't yeah because you've got
08:22quite a narrow bit in the pool yeah this is your area we're gonna dig this down to a certain level
08:28because it's too soft you know whack of this but will they work it down over and let's play then
08:34put some side of good in there to bring it up a little bit and then the rest will be concrete so
08:39much to think about all right we're gonna have a patio here at this end so we can put some lounges
08:48so you know when the kids are playing in the pool we can be down here just enjoying being out in the
08:53garden with a plan for the garden design agreed it's back to work it looks an absolute mess so
09:01I'm feeling a bit like the pool was up and running and now it's not the pumps just there on the side
09:09the pool the garden was fine and now it's just mud I know we have to do this and at the end of it it
09:18will look nice but it just feels like as we're going into the summer the weather's getting nicer
09:28and we've just completely wrecked the garden and the pool just as my brother's about to arrive soon
09:36with my baby niece they're not going to be able to come out in the garden they're not going to be
09:43able to use the pool you know it's just it's hard to trust the process when it just feels so counter
09:51intuitive doing all this I'm really struggling at the moment living amongst everything I feel like
09:59I've got absolutely no headspace where I can just switch off you know it's all-consuming
10:07I haven't even been sleeping very well because I've been worrying about the budget running away
10:15to help manage some of the stress caused by the diggers work Jasmine decides to embrace it
10:35and I thought I might give it a go why not shall we yeah
10:43there you go I've never driven a digger before but how hard can it be I'm quite a good driver but I
10:58don't know how good I'll be on the digger we'll see right now it's it's active I look out everyone
11:08this does slightly terrify me oh yeah okay that's it yeah I got it okay see okay right now push that
11:18one forward push the whole thing forward oh it was a bit like playing a computer game you know
11:28with the little joysticks I've done it I don't know what have I done hang on just try to remember what
11:39I'm doing oh very patient I'll tell you what to do honestly yeah keep the bucket up a bit which is
11:47pull this one yeah so yeah I forgot about going side to side wait curl is that one oh
11:59so much digging all that topsoil Dominic said he's never seen such good topsoil in Spain in all the
12:22years that he's been here so digging that up did make me feel a little bit sick
12:27but it's a means to an end because we want to have patio and we want to have some parking so
12:34we've got to dig up what's there basically I'm a professional now I've got the hang of it I've just
12:41made a big hole but I've got I think I've got the knack of it shall I drive it around the garden do you
12:47think Dominic how do I turn it off this well that was quite fun if I'm ever out of work would you
12:59employ me yeah you're very good it's not easy there's a lot of things going on well I'm gonna
13:04let you get on but that was really cool and you know if you need if you ever need an extra pair of
13:11hands I'm at your service I had fun on the digger I think I was quite good at it but possibly better
13:20left to the professionals I don't think I'll be giving up my day job anytime soon
13:25with mum Vasula's visit on the Costa del Sol coming to an end there's just time to take in the
13:38more artistic side of Estepona all my life my mum has been a very artistic person she loves painting
13:50drawing she teaches pottery and she does mosaic as well and because Estepona has got about I think
14:00it's roughly 70 murals all across the town that would be quite nice for us to come and just have
14:07a wander explore see some of the murals and enjoy Estepona I started art late so I didn't do it before
14:18the age of 60 no I appreciate art much more how difficult it is now that I've been trying to do
14:24it it was Mother's Day Spanish Mother's Day the other day and so great that mum was here for that
14:33and now we get to spend the day together and just enjoy hanging out it's lovely aren't they these murals
14:41yeah very nice love the way they've drawn the tree and the shadow and the shadow so it looks like
14:47trompe l'oeil doesn't it yeah and it looks so beautiful with the jacarandas and all the other
14:53foliage it's like this corner of Estepona is always in blossom lovely and these are nice as well it looks
15:04like those two go together that one is la mirada de un niño so it's the the gaze I think or the look
15:12of a child exploring Estepona is always surprising because you go around the corner and you see
15:20something that's different that you've never seen before how do they paint on such a huge scale so you
15:28can't really see when you're there painting it you can't really see what you're doing can you you have
15:33the grid oh do you a bit at the time oh is that how they do it I wonder if it adds value to the
15:41properties as well having a mural painted on the building well if it was a Banksy they'd nick it
15:47yeah the fact that Jazz's mom was over visiting the kids and the fact that it fell on Spanish Mother's
15:53Day was great and Jazz managed to get some time with her mom and go and Estepona that's an unusual
15:59one isn't it up there ah it's very very clever yeah and to view it from this point for fish though
16:09yeah I like the way they've done it across several buildings even though the the buildings are all on
16:17different heights the sea is level horizon yeah that's very very clever should we go and get a drink yeah
16:27thanks for coming cheers yeah it's been a bit of a been a bit of a stressful time really with
16:43everything happening it's hard to relax isn't it with everything for the broken leg thrombosis heart
16:50attack renovating a house worrying about not being able to work and so many other things but it's
16:57been yeah it's been nice to have you here actually it is quite getting to me to be honest the last few
17:05days I look out at the garden and I'm like oh I've got to say I find it really really hard to see it and
17:13go oh yeah this is a great thing to be happening I feel like right now we're in the difficult bit with
17:19the outside space the horrible dusty dirty muddy unsightly stressful bit I just can't wait for it to
17:29be beautiful and lovely and yeah it's just getting there hopefully you know it's moving a bit more
17:37quickly now so it won't be too long gardens always take longer actually because you can't just paint
17:44over the problem you have to do the work and wait for things to grow hopefully next time you come we'll
17:54be in a bit of a better state and you can help me with the garden yeah there's so much potential it's
18:02great we can even go for a swim next time I come hopefully you won't be stressed hopefully I can
18:11get back before they do the garden if not when I get back I'll do what I can oh it's always nice to
18:19have mum here it was nice to get out today and hopefully the next time she comes will be a bit
18:25further along and it won't all be so up in the air just because the swimming pool is still out of
18:38action doesn't mean Jasmine and Albion can't take an early evening dip living just a few minutes stroll
18:49from the beach is amazing the reason we moved at all from our previous home was to live by the sea
18:55and I think John would have been happy to live by the sea anywhere and I said well if we're gonna
19:01live you know by the sea let's go and live by the Mediterranean Sea it is vitally important to have
19:12moments like that together with the family away from all the chaos of the building and construction
19:19renovation just to really be able to be present and grateful for what we have
19:25back at the house and it's Astro who needs some attention oh good boy poor little tail between the
19:49east he's just rolled with something on the beach possibly a dead fish he smells bad so this is
19:58something a little shower we don't like it Astro he is such a lovely dog a total goofball but we
20:08absolutely love him he's silly he's funny he's adorable and a little bit nuts as well he's basically almost the
20:24perfect dog yeah he's trying to try himself on your shorts Astro might be one of the people in the family
20:33who is loving Spanish life the most after many weeks of being at home John is now medically fit to return
20:46to work I'm all right John has been unable to go back to work for must be four or five months now I mean
21:02what a crazy time everyone I tell that I've had a heart attack they're like that shouldn't happen at
21:08the age of 45 but hopefully now with the right medication we're on the right tracks this is the
21:15longest period of our lives that I've ever been at home and not worked even during Kobe I worked so
21:25this is like four months of seeing the kids every day it definitely has now made me think and be a
21:32little bit more concerned about not just my health but how fragile we all eyes as human beings how how
21:39we have to value the moment we have to live for now although I haven't been that used for the
21:45reservoir renovation physically it has been this have been present yes exactly whereas I'm very
21:50conscious that for the next two weeks I won't be very present no I can handle it you can take your
21:56love to handle it not only does he need to go back to work financially he also really needs to go back
22:07to work for his own sort of mental health for his own identity like he's never not worked for this
22:18amount of time well just don't overdo it and also we need the money because we're spending money like
22:24we're going out fashion I think I've realized that as a family I think it's been quite nice and we've
22:31grown as a unit with me being around more than I ever have been before but frustratingly you know
22:39financially I think I have to go back to work and my work involves me being away a lot
22:44all packed up it's off to the airport he's just someone that never stops never stops working
22:54never sits down and so I think it's been tough for him the last few months in many ways it will be the
23:02first time he's taken a flight since he broke his leg it will be his first time going back to work
23:10since he broke his leg and obviously after having a heart attack I'm slightly concerned about him flying
23:22but I think the doctors have said it's fine he's got all the medication that he needs he's got his
23:28stockings so he should be fine as John departs Jasmine's brother Andrew with his fiancee Celine and
23:47their baby daughter Celeste arrived my brother Andrew my baby brother is coming over he's a carpenter and he
23:56is knee-deep in his own renovation project in France which is a much bigger project than we've got here
24:05so it's really nice of him to come and take time out here I'm not sure that my sister-in-law and my baby
24:14niece will have the best holiday because they're coming to another building site
24:18downstairs in the basement the work continues initially our plan was to expand the size of
24:30the window at the back of the basement near where the kitchenette's going to go and we started trying
24:37to take out the wall to increase the size of the opening and we were absolutely getting nowhere with
24:46it the walls are so solid they are made out of extremely thick reinforced concrete I think the
24:57reason being is because we are down in the basement they have been made completely impenetrable
25:04and I decided it wasn't worth it for an extra 10 or 20 centimeters of window we would end up having
25:13a week of noise and dust and just thought it wasn't worth it we're going to stick with the same window
25:20size get a new window and be done with it even though they are keeping the window the same size they
25:28need exact measurements to upgrade the frames so Andrew lends a hand so we need to remember the size of the hole
25:35size of the hole
25:37don't know how many times these windows have been measured and it's still different every time
25:42yeah well these are 110 wide yeah 110 centimeters one one oh oh yeah that's it because it was 30 centimeters we were planning to add but we gave up on that idea because it was still
25:54hard I've just started rechecking the measurements because a few things have changed like the window out there and it's just a can of worms
26:07I mean the height of this window is 99 centimeters I've got one one zero zero for that height one one zero zero yeah it's one oh one oh one zero one zero
26:22it's not one one zero zero no no no that's that's ten centimeters too big none of the measurements seem to be right
26:33I've just got myself in a bit of tears with it I mean it's honestly measured like five times
26:41one oh one oh one oh one zero one zero one zero it's still it's still that is the size of the hole
26:49that's the size of the hole so that needs to include the window frame and see
26:54yeah
26:55with Andrew's work done for the day it's time to escape the renovation
27:00and visit a quirky monument in nearby Benal Madana built to honor legendary explorer Christopher Columbus
27:10I think that my brother Andy will definitely find this interesting he's a craftsman himself so I think
27:18he'll appreciate the level of detail in this place the funny thing is that this whole thing wasn't actually
27:25built by a builder do you want to hear this who was it built it was built by a gynaecologist
27:29what? of course of course of course you know in his spare time he decided to do this
27:39do you want to go and see some more? wow! come on then let's go let's go
27:47built by a Christopher Columbus enthusiast Dr Esteban Martín and with the help of two stone masons the castle took seven years to build and was only completed in 1990
27:57and was only completed in 1997 the three ships that Columbus sailed in on his voyage to discover North America are represented in the castle
28:07well it's quite different to my craftsmanship because I'm a I'm a carpenter by trade and work mostly in raw wood you know
28:15before I went there I thought it was a full-size castle
28:21when I got there it looked like a you know a mini castle
28:25I thought it was a castle that had once been inhabited by actual humans
28:30whereas it was more like a castle that could have been inhabited by small fairies or something
28:37nice to have five minutes after the renovation then
28:41I know it is for both of us
28:43yeah it's non-stop isn't it?
28:44it's always in the back of your mind though isn't it?
28:46you can't get away from it
28:47everything you've got to do
28:48yeah
28:49poor you coming on holiday and then having to do more
28:51oh
28:52be on a building site
28:53anything for my big sis
28:55oh thank you baby bro
28:57at least we're not building anything like this
28:59oh it's great to see Jasmine it's always uh it's always lovely to see her
29:04she's busy her life is uh non-stop with the kids and renovation
29:09but it's really lovely to do something out of the out of the norm for us and be by the sea
29:18John and I had never visited Kolmurras Castle before
29:21and so while I was there I thought oh let me just give him a call so he can see it
29:26and maybe we can come another time and bring the children back
29:29he was back in London he was in the office doing some work
29:34so I thought I'll just catch up with him and make him a bit jealous
29:39as soon as I go back to work
29:41Jas decides that then it's okay to go and visit somewhere that I've kind of wanted to visit for quite a while
29:46how's your leg?
29:48uh yeah it's good
29:49it's uh much more mobile than I thought I would be
29:53it's definitely better to be on my feet
29:55all the time
29:56really
29:57because the minute I sit down it gets a bit stiff but
29:59yeah it's fine
30:00I mean it's weird being back at work and away from the kids
30:03it's weird not having you hovering around the house
30:06weird or good?
30:08no it's not good
30:09alright have a nice afternoon send the kids my love
30:12love you
30:13send your brother my love
30:14everyone
30:15yeah
30:16will do love you
30:17see you later
30:18don't work too hard
30:19I won't
30:20bye
30:21bye
30:22it was really great to see John
30:23I think he's coping really well with everything
30:26I think he's missing the children
30:28maybe he's missing me a little bit too
30:31but it must be nice to have a break from the building work although
30:36knowing John
30:37I think he feels a little bit out of the loop and wants to be involved and do everything
30:44so he's just gonna have to trust me to get on with it now
30:47she's more interested in the little fountain than the castle
30:51I almost can't describe how lovely it is to have my family coming to visit
30:56I just wish that I could offer them you know a bit more of my hospitality in terms of you
31:03know the house being a bit of a wreck at the moment and not being able to use the garden
31:07or the swimming pool
31:09you know that's a bit of a shame but it's so lovely to see them and my little niece
31:15they grow up so quickly so every moment that you can spend with them is a blessing and is so precious
31:25nearing the end of the day Joy and Albion are now home from school so it's dinner time
31:40right
31:42well dinner's nearly ready guys
31:44do you want to put all the condiments on the table and the knives and forks and stuff please
31:49hola Soro your dinner
31:52thank you
31:53ah this looks nice everyone
31:55lovely thanks sis
31:57what do you think of Joy and Albion's rooms?
32:00they're amazing
32:02how do you feel about them?
32:04they're so cool honestly
32:06yeah your room is just so
32:10it's like being in a jungle retreat somewhere
32:13and Albion's room
32:16wow it's like a rainbow vomit
32:19just how you wanted it
32:22so how's it going in Spain here?
32:24you've been having a bit of a rollercoaster
32:27the renovation?
32:28well the renovation and everything
32:30and John
32:32and John bless him
32:33thank god he's alright now
32:35but yeah it has been a bit of a rollercoaster the last few months
32:38not you know not only renovation but everything else with John
32:43you know what it's like renovating somewhere
32:46you expect it all to be smooth sailing then you're in for a big wake up call aren't you?
32:51it's so nice to see you all and spend time with you
32:55thanks for coming to visit us
32:57oh we'd love to see you
32:59oh it was so nice eating all together with the family
33:03just a shame John isn't here at the moment
33:06but just really lovely to spend time with my brother and his family
33:11and for my kids to spend time with their little cousin
33:14my family I mean they're so useful
33:17everyone's got their own skills
33:19and every single person in my family would bend over backwards to help me
33:24and likewise I would do the same for them
33:27although I'm possibly not quite as useful with my skills as they are to me
33:32as they are to me
33:53whilst John is still working in the UK
33:55Jasmine's brother Andrew is staying on for a few more days
33:59I'm here to build a secret door bookcase for Joy
34:04which will be the entrance to her walk-in wardrobe and her bathroom
34:08I really hope Joy likes what I managed to build
34:13which I would and I hope it works everything goes as planned
34:17the girls have gone back to France now
34:22and they've left Andrew here my brother
34:25to do the shelves
34:28so I have to start cracking the whip with him now
34:31haha
34:34Joy's room is finished basically
34:38but the one thing missing was the secret doorway
34:45I think it's a bit of a novelty
34:47but I think it's really fun for a kid's bedroom especially
34:51and I think she'll love showing her friends when they come round
34:55it'll be like a nice surprise
34:57the secret bookcase will consist of two separate shelving units
35:02positioned either side of the doorway
35:04but on wheels
35:06so when they slide together
35:08they meet in the middle and the doorway disappears
35:12the biggest challenge of making a bookcase that moves
35:15is the weight and the running gear for it to move on
35:19I've come up with an idea in my head that I hope is going to work
35:24the bookcase will be on wheels at the bottom
35:27and have some tracks attached to the back of it
35:29that you won't see from the bedroom side
35:32but it's an untested, untried idea at this point
35:36so fingers crossed we're going to nail it first time
35:41how are you getting on?
35:45so the back panel will be that nice
35:48decorative panel that we bought
35:51that will be the last thing to go on
35:54so at the minute the shelves are cut
35:56I've got eight shelves
35:57the reality of a secret door like this
36:01is that it's a bathroom and her wardrobe behind it
36:05and I'm not sure if she'll really move it
36:08every time she goes through it
36:10she'll probably just leave them open all the time
36:12so it needs to look good open is what I'm thinking
36:15and then when she wants to hide it
36:17and it'll be quite fun
36:19novelty
36:20but I think if it doesn't look good open
36:23then it might not be as practical
36:26it is really great to have my brother here
36:30he knows what he's talking about
36:32he does have extremely high standards
36:36and every time I've ever had work done or done anything like that
36:41my brother well and my dad actually
36:44they both have very very high standards
36:47and they're perfectionists
36:48whereas I'm just like let it go
36:51let it let it go
36:54sometimes you have to overlook little things
36:57just to try and stay zen
37:01so these are these are the books
37:04this one this one won't fit
37:06because it won't fit on the shelves
37:08yeah but that's like one of the big
37:10that's a big book
37:11yeah she's got she can put them on the other bookshelf
37:15I think maybe better to have them all more
37:19equal
37:21apart from
37:22one
37:23that one
37:24that one
37:25that's fine
37:26yeah yeah so third one down will be the big one
37:29then slightly larger one at the bottom
37:31slightly larger one at the bottom
37:32and the rest are all equal
37:33and the rest are equal
37:34okay
37:35super
37:36I'll crack on
37:37with the shelving units now assembled
37:43and still 24 hours to go before Andrew goes back to France
37:47all he has to do is attach them to the wall
37:50so the wall is not straight and the floor is not completely level
37:54and when I cut these sides out of bigger planks
37:59the wood twisted as I released the pressure on it
38:04and so I'm fighting with it all the way now
38:07just trying to get it to stay where I want it
38:11the problem with the sliding doors is the fact that the walls themselves do not line up
38:22so in order for the two bookshelves to meet the walls would have to be straight
38:29and they're not
38:31so one is going like this and one is going like this
38:33so for the doors to meet they would end up meeting in a funny angle
38:38it looks good like this
38:40but the problem I'm having is when you slide them
38:44they don't really meet in the middle
38:48because I'm trying to attach them to the wall
38:51and the wall is not straight
38:53the wall has a curve in it by this much
38:56so if I put it flat against this wall
38:58you can see there's a big gap on the right hand side
39:01if we used a double door sliding track
39:07one of the simple sort of metal bar along there
39:11black metal bar and they've got two little hooks that go over it
39:14it's possible that
39:17well at least the top will be guided to meet each other
39:22and the bottom may still be able to work on a guide that I can fit to the back of the shelf
39:30but it's definitely a challenge to get it to get it to meet in the middle
39:37because if it doesn't meet in the middle
39:39doesn't really fulfill the brief
39:41oh no
39:44I didn't even think about the walls might not be straight
39:47yeah
39:48if we get to the final hour and it's not working
39:52then I'll have to screw them to the wall
39:54and she can have a couple of nice bookcases
39:57but that'll be a bit disappointing
39:59it will be a bit disappointing
40:01for her but for everyone really
40:04for everyone yeah
40:05you've come all this way
40:06yeah
40:07but I know we've not got much time
40:09that's the problem isn't it
40:11yeah
40:12sorry sis
40:13no don't apologise
40:14I'm sorry that my walls aren't straight
40:17well
40:18they were here before you
40:21if they can find a store that has a sliding track mechanism in the right size
40:26this could solve the problem
40:28but as Andrew travels back to France tomorrow
40:31time is running out
40:34I'm not sure that it's possible in the time we've got
40:44come on
40:47hola
40:48hi sis
40:49that's for you
40:50ah
40:51thank you
40:52I saw you coming
40:53how's it going
40:54it's going all right
40:55you know
40:56as you've probably worked out
40:57we're not going to be able to
40:59make them slide
41:00this time
41:01we have thought of a couple of other solutions
41:04of how they could work
41:06but
41:07unfortunately we've run out of time
41:10to be able to get the right materials in order to do it differently.
41:15Everything that's going on in there with the floor
41:17and the walls being all out of kilter is like the perfect storm.
41:21So I'm going to fix them to the wall, make the best of it.
41:25I'll put the little trim all the way, the architrape all the way around,
41:29the three sides that are visible.
41:31It's all cool. I'm just happy to have spent time with you.
41:36Here's to some small problems.
41:38Small problems.
41:40Love small problems.
41:42Probably my brother is the most upset about the shelves
41:46because he's kicking himself that it should be something
41:50that's fairly straightforward for him.
41:53And he had a plan of how it was going to work.
41:55I think Joy is probably the least disappointed out of all of us.
42:00She's fine. She really accepted it.
42:02I think she would still like to have the sliding doors,
42:06but, you know, she's absolutely fine.
42:10We don't need to have sliding bookshelves,
42:15hiding a secret doorway.
42:16It's fun.
42:17It would have been cool and maybe still will be one day.
42:21But for the time being, you know, we're just going to leave it at that.
42:25As Andrew had to go back to France,
42:28he worked late into the night.
42:30John has just returned home and is keen to see the finished result.
42:44Here we go.
42:46Oh, they're good.
42:49Yeah.
42:50Really good.
42:51I mean, very tall and useful.
42:53I know, for all her books.
42:56And also, they just, you know, I like the print on the back of it.
42:59It goes really well, doesn't it?
43:00Yeah, it goes really well.
43:02I was a happy find.
43:04They look beautiful.
43:06And they are custom made to fit that space.
43:10They look fantastic.
43:12The fact that they're not off the shelf
43:14and they've just been made to fit those two positions.
43:18Yeah.
43:19Jazz's brother is arguably a master craftsman.
43:22It could be argued that I'm maybe the complete opposite.
43:26That might be my fault
43:27that we didn't notice the walls don't line up.
43:30No, they're really nice.
43:32And I think, you know,
43:33maybe we have one or two shelves there
43:35with a vase or a plant or something nice on it,
43:38maybe a picture frame.
43:39The fact they don't currently slide together
43:43to conceal her bathroom and wardrobe,
43:45I think is okay for now.
43:47I think Andrew has accepted
43:48that it's slightly back to the drawing board
43:50and he will return and they will one day slide.
43:54For now, they're perfect.
43:55No, it's great.
43:56I was worried that they might not quite fit the room
44:00and they might overcrowd the room a bit.
44:02They don't, they're perfect.
44:02They were meant to be there.
44:04Yeah, made to measure, exactly.
44:07Well done, Andy.
44:07Standing here,
44:22I feel like I'm in a war zone.
44:26Days like this
44:27where you can spend quality time together
44:30are really important.
44:31No tonnes.
44:35That is a lot of cement.
44:38I thought Dominic nearly about to end up in it then.
44:42I cannot wait to see the progress of these stairs.
44:46I mean, when they're in,
44:47I think it will transform the way we use our house.
44:51Who would have thought that was there?
44:54There's currently five people looking at a wall.
44:56We're trying to work out a solution now.
44:59Yeah, I'm trying not to stress with my heart.
45:01It's fine.
45:01We'll see you next time.
45:06We'll see you next time.
