00:00Here he comes, here he comes, there's the truppets, there's the drums, here he comes,
00:10Humble on Cassidy, here he comes.
00:15The harmless old wooden wagon setting idle in Sandy Morgan's livery stable looked harmless
00:32anyhow, yet no one within 50 miles of Twin Rivers would have anything to do with it.
00:36Sandy couldn't even give it away.
00:39Folks called it the Jinx wagon, and for good reason.
00:42It had brought nothing but trouble and heartaches to anyone who had ever owned, ridden, or come
00:46in contact with it.
00:48The last owner had been killed trying to outrun a pack of renegades.
00:52Right after that, Sandy Morgan took over the wagon, but he knew better than to put it in
00:56operation.
00:57He just let it gather dust, using it more for storage than anything else.
01:03So the Jinx wagon just sat there, out of trouble, until the night not long ago when the Twin
01:09Rivers Bank was robbed.
01:12The bank wasn't far from the livery stable, so it didn't take Sandy any time at all to
01:16realize what was happening.
01:19What he didn't realize was that the excitement in Twin Rivers that night was going to start
01:23a chain of events that would alter quite a few lives, and put the Jinx wagon back in business.
01:31Those saddle boys, mister, shake them loose.
01:33Get them out back and make it fast.
01:34Give them a hand, but keep a gun on them.
01:35How's it look?
01:41They're searching every building for us.
01:43Hurry it up!
01:51Give me that money.
02:05Somehow it just don't seem right, boss.
02:23Quit worrying.
02:24Without this satchel full of bank money, we can just be three cow folks riding out of town.
02:28They'll stop us and search us, but they'll let us go.
02:30Yeah, but with all this money, I still think we should...
02:32You ain't paid the bank.
02:34We'll come back and pick it up when the heat's off, just like we planned.
02:37What if someone comes snooping around or moves the wagon?
02:40The Jinx wagon?
02:41Yeah, nobody will touch it.
02:42This money's safe like in a church.
02:44That's why I planned it this way.
02:47It'll take a hurricane to move this old wreck.
02:50Let's get out of here.
02:50Let's get out of here.
02:50A hurricane, nobody in Twin Rivers knew about it.
03:07But the morning after the robbery, contrary to the masked bandit's reasoning, the Jinx wagon found a new owner.
03:13Dan Clemens, an elderly southerner, was on the last leg of his long journey westward from Georgia.
03:19He'd traveled by stage as far as Twin Rivers, but the last few miles of his trip were off the stage route, so he needed transportation.
03:27Sandy told him the story behind the Jinx wagon, that Dan Clemens would knock one for superstition.
03:32To him, a wagon was a wagon, so he went right ahead and board it.
03:36Sandy dusted a few cobwebs off, outfitted it with harnessing and horses, and the Jinx wagon was ready to roll.
03:52So Dan Clemens, the proud owner of a wobbly old wagon that up to now had spelled nothing but trouble, rode out of town with a big smile on his face.
04:00Me and my saddle pal, Rhett Connors, didn't feel much like smiling, though, when we heard about the robbery and were asked to try and track down the thieves.
04:13We both had a little savings in the bank ourselves.
04:16After we got all the information we'd need from the bank officials, we figured maybe Sandy Morgan could give us some answers.
04:31Sandy went on to tell Red and me all about Dan Clemens and his story about coming out from Georgia.
04:37Sandy said he wouldn't even have mentioned it, but for the big roll of bills the old man was carrying.
04:41There wasn't much to go on, but Red and I figured maybe the wagon was part of the plan, too.
04:50And if it was, the old gent might lead us right to the rest of the gang.
04:55For the next few hours, Red and I put a lot of miles behind us as we tracked the troublesome wagon.
05:07Wobbly wheels made the wagon tracks easy to read.
05:10And following had been no trouble at all.
05:17Yet just a ways up the road, Dan Clemens wasn't finding the going as easy.
05:22The jinx wagon was living up to its name.
05:29He been working for you, you catty whumpus old wheel.
05:33I might have been to the outpost a little while back.
05:37I'm up there, I'm up, I'm up.
05:40I'm up, I'm up.
05:49Dead damn markets.
05:52I'll never see such a new account called the old wagon.
05:59You've been nothing but trouble to me ever since I met you.
06:02Yeah, you'll give us a little break.
06:07That's the fifth time you've done that to me.
06:09I'm gonna thump you a good one.
06:18Dead down it, old wagon.
06:26I'm gonna kick the living deal out of your wagon.
06:29Oh!
06:30Oh!
06:31Oh!
06:32Oh!
06:35Now, you got me in a frenzy, wagon.
06:44I ain't gonna truckle with you no more, wagon.
06:48I should have believed that livery stable fella
06:51when he told me you was nothing but trouble.
06:55Now, just as soon as I get these horses...
06:58Oh!
06:59Hi there.
07:08Howdy, howdy.
07:12You own this wagon?
07:14What, that coggly old piece of trouble?
07:17I just disowned it.
07:19What is all the shooting about?
07:21That wagon and me, we don't see eye to eye.
07:25I'm going one way and it's going to the other.
07:27It's got a hex on it.
07:28You figuring on leaving it right here in the road?
07:31Yeah, I hope to tell you I am.
07:33I'll never want to see the darn thing again.
07:36Say, I paid real good money for that wagon.
07:40Seems to me I can do as I see fit.
07:42I'm a U.S. marshal, old-timer.
07:44My name is Hopalong Cassidy.
07:46This is Red Connors.
07:47Well, please meet up for you.
07:50I'm Dan Clements.
07:52I'm from Georgia, huh?
07:53Why, yeah.
07:55Hey, there's been a bank robbery.
07:57You mind if we ask you a few questions?
07:59Well, pump them at me, son.
08:01I got nothing to hide.
08:02This good money you were talking about, is that in currency?
08:05It sure is.
08:06You mind if I look at the serial numbers?
08:08Oh, not at all, son.
08:10Not at all.
08:11It is.
08:12This is my life savings.
08:14And I work mighty hard for it, too.
08:19That stable man was a line, boss.
08:21That's the wagon well enough.
08:23No mistaking it.
08:24No mistaking Hopalong Cassidy, either.
08:27Well, this is not the stolen money, Red.
08:29And there isn't enough of it.
08:31Well, I talk fair with everybody, Marshal Cassidy.
08:35I ain't one for singing snake songs.
08:37Snake songs?
08:39What kind of talk's that?
08:40Where I come from down in Georgia, we talk plain.
08:44Snake songs are slippery stories.
08:47You know, tall tales, lies.
08:50Sounds reasonable.
08:51Yeah, I guess so, if you're well acquainted with snakes.
08:54Now, if you gents will kind of excuse me, I'll be getting long.
08:58I ain't seen my children for quite a spell.
09:00Gonna visit your family, huh?
09:02Yes, I sure am.
09:03My son and daughter.
09:04They're on a store here near the town up ahead.
09:07Can't be too much further.
09:10Seems to me you're leaving a good piece of equipment here on the road.
09:12Well, son, if you feel that way about it, you're welcome to it.
09:16Say, would you kindly hand me my rifle, Mr. Conant?
09:20I'd better help you there, old time.
09:30It looks like you got a bad foot.
09:31Yeah, I got it.
09:33Trying to kick some sense into that consounded old wagon.
09:36Give me your foot here.
09:40There you go.
09:45Much obliged.
09:46Much obliged, Marshal.
09:48I must be getting old again.
09:50You're doing all right.
09:51Well, so long, gents.
09:53So long.
09:53Come up.
09:54Come up, Dad.
09:55Come up.
09:55Old Dan was such a sorry sight moving down the road that Red and I figured when he cooled
10:02off later on, he might find use for the wagon.
10:08So knowing that the store Dan had mentioned was just a few miles up the road, we patched
10:13up the jinx wagon and started fooling him.
10:18You and your great ideas.
10:20Come on.
10:21Let's take the wagon away from him.
10:22I'm gonna take it away from him.
10:23Hop along, Cassidy.
10:24Don't exactly strike me as a bright idea.
10:27Well, what do you suggest?
10:27Just sitting here watching all that cash roll away?
10:29Don't talk stupid.
10:31We'll follow him.
10:32Find out what he does with the wagon.
10:33Can't plan to take it far.
10:35Too bad the old man didn't keep it.
10:38He'd have been a pushover.
10:49Guinea!
10:51Jeff!
10:51You all around?
10:54Pa!
10:55Pa!
10:57Oh, we thought you'd never get here.
10:59Yeah, it seemed like I felt the same way, Jilly darling, but I made it all right.
11:03Is anything wrong?
11:04No, I'm just tuckered, Saul.
11:06It's good to see you, Pa.
11:07Here, let me give you a hand.
11:08Yeah, thank you, boy.
11:09Well, I guess that's about all it is, too, Jilly.
11:16That coggly old wagon just clumped me on the ankle and dripped me into a conniption fit.
11:21So I left it right there in the middle of the road.
11:23Well, I can't say as I blame you, Pa.
11:27I don't know, Jilly.
11:28Well, I can understand how Pa feels about it.
11:31But that wagon would have sure come in handy here at the store.
11:34Yeah, come in handy like a stick of dynamite, maybe.
11:37Why, if I brought that coggly old thing here, the roof would probably fall right in on the store.
11:43Oh, Pa.
11:46Well, now that we're all one big happy family together again, I wanted you to keep this for me.
11:53It ain't much, but I thought it might come in handy.
11:57Most $3,000 in that.
12:00And, Jeff, would you fetch this someplace where it's nice and snug?
12:05I'll put it in the safe, Pa.
12:07Say, it's a lucky thing that Jinx wagon didn't run away with your money, too, eh, Pa?
12:11Yeah.
12:13Say, sounds like you've got yourself a customer.
12:23Oh, it's just a couple of cowboys drawing a wagon.
12:27What kind of wagon?
12:31It's just an old wobbly one.
12:33Well, turn my cats.
12:35That's it.
12:37Them cowboys are bringing that wagon here.
12:41Hey, take it easy, Pa.
12:42Your foot.
12:43Oh, it's my foot.
12:44I'll tell you in by a heap of trouble you keep that thing, yeah?
12:49Oh, Jenny.
12:49Well, you must be the Clemens.
12:56Yes.
12:57I'm Hopalong Cassidy.
12:58This is Fred Connors.
12:59Howdy.
13:00Boss told us all about you fellas.
13:02I told you I didn't want that no-kind wagon marshal.
13:07Well, I thought maybe he'd change his mind.
13:10You know, with a little bit of work, that wagon could be fixed up as good as me.
13:13Oh, he's just upset.
13:14He'll get over it.
13:16Won't you come in?
13:17Well, thank you kindly, ma'am.
13:18Just a minute.
13:20We still have work to do, or have you forgotten?
13:22Oh, a shucks no, Hoppy.
13:24It ain't me that's weary.
13:25I was just thinking of the horses.
13:26Oh, the horses, huh?
13:30All right.
13:31Maybe they should have a little rest.
13:35Well, hi, Dan.
13:36Uh, marshal.
13:37How's the foot?
13:38Uh, fair to middle, eh?
13:40Uh, till you brought that spooky wagon here, now it hurts like blatant.
13:44Ha, ha, you and that wagon.
13:45Yeah.
13:46Hey, that's pretty swollen.
13:47If you do, no, no, it ain't nothing.
13:49It ain't nothing at all, marshal.
13:50Well, that's enough to make a cripple out of you if we don't do something for it.
13:54I better get you to a doctor.
13:55Oh, nonsense, nonsense.
13:56Ah, we'll put you right in the wagon and everything.
13:58Uh, marshal, not in that dun wagon again, please, now.
14:01All right.
14:03Well, then we'll put you on Red's horse.
14:04Oh, that's just as bad.
14:06Come on.
14:07Here we go.
14:10I finally got him on Red's horse, and we were on our way to the doctor.
14:26Put your saddles, boys.
14:36This won't take long.
14:37What's wrong, boss?
14:55It's gone.
14:56The money's gone.
14:58What's going on out here?
15:04That's what we want to know, mister.
15:06We're going to find out starting right now.
15:09Get inside.
15:10All of you.
15:12Come on, Jess.
15:13Late.
15:13Take care of the horses.
15:14Back to the doctors, everything outside the store looked nice and peaceful.
15:19I noticed the horses in front, but just figured the store had some customers.
15:31Yes, some customers.
15:33When Dan and I walked inside, we were really in for a surprise.
15:37Hello, marshal.
15:39Join the party.
15:40I told you the roof would fall in if you brought that contraption here.
15:45It looked like the roof had fallen in all right.
15:47And while one of the gunnies tied me up, Red was talking a mile a minute,
15:51telling me all about the jinx wagon and the money the bank thieves had hidden.
15:55Red said they were furious when the money turned up missing
15:57and thought sure Dan had found it and stashed it somewhere in the store.
16:02When they blew the safe open and found Dan's life savings of $3,000,
16:06they were certain it was part of the bank money.
16:08So they tore up the store looking for the rest.
16:11When they didn't find it, they figured Dan must have the rest of the money on him.
16:15So they just settled down to wait for his return.
16:18You're pretty foxy.
16:19I don't know what you're talking.
16:20Let's see if you've got any of that cash on you.
16:28Listen, old man.
16:29I'm tired of talking.
16:30Now, where's the rest of that money?
16:32Hey, now, I'm tired of staying in it, sonny.
16:34I tell you I don't know nothing about your hard-earned money.
16:37Where is it?
16:42You're a fiersome cuss, ain't you?
16:44Go ahead, chunk me.
16:46I still don't know.
16:48You'd better know or I'm going to kill you.
16:50I knew I'd have to think of something fast or he'd carry out his threat.
16:54I couldn't endanger everyone else by trying to break loose.
16:57But if I could get the thieves out on a wild goose chase.
17:00Then I remembered something.
17:02Something Dan had said out on the road.
17:04Sure, Dan.
17:05You might as well tell him.
17:07Huh?
17:08I guess it.
17:09He's just getting smart, mister.
17:11You better listen to him.
17:13Sure, Dan.
17:15Sing him a snake song.
17:17About where you buried the money out on the trail.
17:21Yeah.
17:21Yeah.
17:22Snake song.
17:23Yeah.
17:23Yeah.
17:24I suppose you might as well.
17:26That's more like it.
17:27Yeah.
17:28Where is it?
17:30Dan came through like a charter member of the Liars Club.
17:33He told a snake song that was a dandy.
17:36He really got himself wrapped up telling how he'd found the money, kept part of it and buried
17:40the rest out on the trail.
17:42Told the outlaws it was all theirs.
17:44He'd tell them right where he hid it.
17:45But the leader said Dan would go along and show them where and threaten to kill him if
17:49any of us trailed them.
17:51Then he sent one of his men out to hitch up the team horses to the wagon so they could
17:55carry Dan.
17:56When Dan heard he was going to ride in the Jinx wagon, I thought for a moment he'd rather
18:00be killed.
18:02Listen, man.
18:02Let's go.
18:06But by the time the team horses were hitched, Dan had resigned himself to the wagon as the
18:10lesser of the two evils.
18:12As soon as we heard them leave, I got to work on my ropes.
18:18Red and I had to get ourselves free, knowing that every second wasted could be the last
18:24in Dan Clemens' life.
18:26I finally got free and released the others.
18:36Then Red and I raced out on the trail of the wagon.
18:38Knowing Dan couldn't stall forever, we raced against the time the bank thieves would realize
18:43Dan didn't have the slightest idea where the money was.
18:46This is what?
19:02Yeah, it was right around here somewhere.
19:05Well, let's see, I seem to disremember exactly where I buried that darn money.
19:15Was it that tree over there or was it that one?
19:22Maybe this will help you remember.
19:24Now quit stalling.
19:25I'm pretty sure.
19:26No, no, no, no.
19:29No, no, no, it was, uh, it was that tree over there.
19:34You better be sure.
19:36Late, start digging.
19:37We spawned the wagon up ahead.
19:56I motioned Red to follow me and we circled quietly toward a small hill behind the outlaws.
20:01From the looks of the digging going on, we knew Dan was still singing his snake song.
20:19All right, the treasure hunt's over.
20:21Wait a minute, you might get Dan.
20:34Take care of me.
20:34All right, the treasure hunt's over.
21:04You all right?
21:34All right, Dan.
21:35Yeah.
21:36You bet your sweet life.
21:38I'm mighty glad you made it, though, son.
21:41I was pretty near running out of snake songs.
21:44Ah, you did fine.
21:45So did the old jinx wagon.
21:47Yeah, that old brake slip shut just as pretty as you please.
21:52Say, you just trundle that piece no account into the wagon.
21:55I think maybe I can drive it back as far as the store, anyhow.
21:59Good.
22:00We'll go back and pick up the other two and get them on their way to jail.
22:02Yeah.
22:03We got Dan Clements settled with these kids at the store and then headed back to Twin Rivers.
22:13Red was kind of wary.
22:14But the jinx wagon behaved as if it knew that the outlaw's occupants and back had more than enough of its demon influence.
22:21I sent Red to get Sandy Morgan.
22:23I told him to tell the livery stable owner that we needed him to identify the bank robbers.
22:28The sheriff was pleased enough to jail the bandit gang, but more concerned about the whereabouts of the stolen money.
22:37His confusion was understandable, just as it had been to all of us.
22:41Because all the time we'd been on the trail, the money had never left Twin Rivers.
22:46A lot of the things had come clear to me when I was tied up back in the store.
22:49I realized that the bank money had entered the livery stable, but had never come out.
22:55There was only one person who could have taken it.
22:58Sandy Morgan, the wistful little stable owner.
23:02Red had caught him just as he was boarding the stage out of town.
23:06Actually, Sandy had put us on a trail that led only one place right back to him.
23:11Where is the money?
23:14You won't find anything in there, Marshal.
23:17I'm telling you, just my clue is in there, that's all.
23:20That's all.
23:26Well, this is the money, all right, Sheriff.
23:28The serial number's checked.
23:31You want to tell us about it, Sandy?
23:34Well, when they rode off that night, I noticed they didn't have that leather satchel with them they came in with.
23:40When I saw the straws and the codwebs disturbed on the jinx wagon,
23:45well, it didn't take me long to find out the hiding place.
23:50All right, Sheriff, he's all yours.
23:52So Sandy Morgan, who thought he'd outwitted everyone,
23:56also fell victim to the curse of the jinx wagon.
23:59So long, Sheriff.
24:02Don't overfeed them.
24:10Then we'd better get this wagon back to Dan, Hoppy.
24:12We're not taking it back.
24:14What?
24:16Dan said when we got back to Twin Rivers, he wanted me to give the wagon to you.
24:19He said he knowed you'd be mighty proud to own her.
24:23Well, dog my cat, Marshal Cassidy.
24:25If that ain't the daggone-a-snake story I ever heard.
24:28Hi there, little friends.
24:44This is just a thought about guns.
24:46I was doing a scene one time, and one of the pictures,
24:48and the boy that was working with me was twirling his gun on his hand and playing with it.
24:53I said, what are you doing with that gun, Lucky?
24:56He said, I was just playing with it.
24:58I said, those things are not to play with.
25:01They kill people.
25:03So watch your guns, children.
25:04Be careful with them, won't you?
25:08There he goes on his way
25:12Down the movement trail to where cowboys reign
25:16Hop along, Cassidy
25:19Hop along, Cassidy
25:23He'll return soon again
25:27There's no use to say goodbye until then
25:31Hop along, Cassidy
25:34So long, hop along
25:37God and fu on the team
25:41Boom
25:42Be clear his charming
25:42Whoastern
25:44Worrees
25:45Those things are not to play
25:45I said, the man
25:46La la la la la la la la la la la la la
