TURTLE TAKES A CASUAL SWIM WITH PADDLEBOARDER
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A sweet moment was captured when a turtle glided beside a paddleboarder, calmly keeping pace in the clear island water.
The video was filmed on Gili Trawangan in Indonesia by Siân Williams, who is part of the Proyek Penyu turtle conservation team.
Siân has spent more than a decade protecting turtles, and peaceful encounters like this highlight how relaxed marine life can be when left undisturbed.
Her team works year-round to monitor nests, safeguard hatchlings, and raise awareness on an island where heavy tourism can threaten wildlife.
This season brought a welcome rise in nesting activity, giving the rangers renewed optimism.
Siân said: “My heart is bursting with excitement for every landing, hatching or release.
“I’ve seen hundreds of turtles nesting, and it never stops being so special.
“Being an all-female team wasn’t planned, but it’s inspiring to see local women become guardians of their beaches.
“You don’t need to live next to the ocean to help save sea turtles.”
