00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Today we're looking at Croydon Recycling Centre.
00:07From the early 2000s onward, the London Borough of Croydon, part of the South London Waste Partnership,
00:13has run household reuse and recycling centres, often called TIPS, to help residents responsibly dispose of bulky hazardous products.
00:22Despite these facilities though, fly tipping, the illegal dumping of rubbish, has been a major issue in Croydon and across London in recent years.
00:31Government data showed Croydon had some of the highest fly tipping figures in England, with tens of thousands of incidents recorded in a single year, costing the council over ÂŁ1 million to clear up.
00:43This Croydon Recycling Centre is based near an industrial estate and gives locals the opportunity to remove rubbish without fly tipping.
