00:00Thomas the Tank Engine was ill.

00:03Workmen had tried to make him better, but it was no use.

00:07Edward must take you to the works, said the Fat Controller.

00:14Thomas felt very miserable.

00:19Then the Fat Controller spoke to Duck.

00:22I want you to help Percy and Toby while Thomas is away.

00:26Duck was delighted.

00:30He already knew Percy and soon made friends with Toby and Bertie.

00:36Terence the Tractor gave him a big welcome too.

00:41Take care of Thomas' coaches, he advised.

00:44He's sure to miss them while he's away.

00:48Duck was very gentle with the coaches.

00:53Annie and Clarabel were impressed.

00:56Such nice manners, they told each other.

00:59It really is a pleasure to go out with him.

01:16When Thomas came back, Annie and Clarabel told him how well Duck had managed.

01:20Thomas was so pleased to be home that he soon forgot to be jealous.

01:32The works had left Thomas' handbrake very stiff.

01:35It made his brakes seem as if they were hard on.

01:38When in fact they were not.

01:39As a result, he and his coaches often overran the platform.

01:52Thomas found this most embarrassing.

01:54Thomas was in.

01:55Gradually, his driver and fireman learned to be extra careful.

02:00But one day, Thomas' fireman was ill and a relief man took his place.

02:07The fireman had fastened the coupling and joined the driver and stationmaster on the platform to wait for Henry's passengers.

02:19The fireman had forgotten all about Thomas' handbrake.

02:23Thomas simmered happily.

02:26Not long now, he thought, as he saw Henry slowly approaching.

02:32But Thomas' brakes were not hard on and suddenly he felt his wheels begin to move.

02:39He tried to stop, but he couldn't without his driver and fireman.

02:42He tried to whistle a warning, but he couldn't do that either.

02:47The guard, driver, fireman and passengers were all stranded on the platform.

02:53Stop! Stop!

02:55Shrieked Annie and Clarabel.

02:57But Thomas, with plenty of steam, kept on going.

03:01The alarm went out down the line.

03:03Stop the runaway!

03:05There, ready for action, was Harold the helicopter.

03:08The inspector had made a plan, and together they took off into the sky.

03:29At last, Thomas was tiring.

03:32I need to stop, I need to stop, he panted wearily.

03:36As they neared the next station, Thomas saw Harold land.

03:47They entered the platform slowly enough for the inspector to act.

03:53Judging his moment, the inspector scrambled into the cab and screwed the brake hard on.

03:59At last, Thomas stopped.

04:00Both he and the inspector were very relieved.

04:09Then they thanked Harold.

04:11Think nothing of it.

04:12Well, Harold, glad to be of service any time.

04:16Phew! remarked the inspector.

04:19We must never let this happen again, Thomas.

04:22Wearily, Thomas agreed with him.

04:29Mhm.
